Evan Hofer OUT at General Hospital as Dex Heller’s Fate is Sealed

In a surprise twist on the Friday, December 13th episode, just as it seems PCPD officer Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) was going to pull through his hospitalization after being stabbed, things took a deadly turn.  The charming Army vet, who at one time worked as the wingman for Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), went into cardiac arrest and could not be revived. Sound familiar? It looks to be the same way that Kelly Monaco’s Sam McCall was also killed off the show.

Evan Hofer joined General Hospital back in May of 2022 in a role that he says was meant to last just a few months. However, almost three years later, Dex’s passing opens up the storyline to now a murder spree in Port Charles as he is the second victim.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly on his exit, Hofer revealed how he was notified that his time on GH had come to an end. Evan shared, “I found out probably a few weeks before we filmed the scene. Honestly, I was just excited to find out what the story was going to be, and wanted to hear how that was going to go. So my last few weeks were really just trying to soak in how much I loved playing Dex, and how much I loved all the people over at GH.”

In soapy fashion, Dex’s girlfriend Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) was there when the character died, making it all the more heartbreaking. “I think his relationship with Josslyn was really what impacted Dex most in trying to get his life together, getting out of the mob, becoming the police officer, and realizing he never thought that he deserved anything good out of his life. He had a death wish for a really long time, and then she gave him a reason to live,” shared Hofer.

What the impact and the aftermath on Josslyn will be after Dex’s shocking remains to be seen. Might she be pregnant with his child? The two hit the sheets shortly before he was stabbed.

If you caught today’s GH, you also know that at the end of it, head nurse Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) looks at a dead Dex and says, “This isn’t right. You’re the second person to die like this. It just doesn’t make any sense. Something very wrong is going on here.”

All roads right now lead to Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) being Dex’s killer, who earlier in the week flashed back to the night he snuck into Sam McCall’s hospital room and injected her IV with Digitalis, and who had a confrontation with Dex.

At that time, Dex told Cyrus he knows he was at GH on Halloween to see Lulu (Alexa Havins) and tells him to stay away from her especially since he has a restraining order against him. Dex signed his death warrant right there, because Cyrus would want to silence him so he could not be placed at the scene of the crime of killing Sam.

So, what do you think of GH letting go of Evan Hofer in what is being said as a “storyline-dictated move?” Will you miss him on-screen? Comment below.

Absolutely hate the anount of violence and death happening in the storylines . . . what’s wrong with TPTB that initiate them?? They must be a miserable bunch and I hope they all get coal in their stockings!! So much for a “Merry” Christmas. . .isn’t the real world sad enough, SO disappointed they made the reel world sad, too!! The faithful viewers needed and deserved happier Holiday storylines.

Agree. So disappointed Dex is gone.

I grew to enjoy Dex very much. So many changes and not sure where GH is heading.

Will GH now notify the PCPD that something is going on ? Patients are dying. Also, I feel like the serial killer storyline has been recycled from another recent storyline. The “hook” murders. Can’t the new writers come up with something better than just re-using the same tired stories?

Can someone at ABC please stop with all the killing @ GH and fire the horrible writers . GH is not fun to watch lately, we watch because there’s characters we love to watch and look forward to everyday, nobody tunes in to watch those characters get killed off by horrible writers on a killing rampage.

Agree 100%

GH is like watching ABC news. From 4 am to 11;30 pm all you hear about is how many people were killed. ABC let the soap.livers he have something to be happy about instead of the doom and gloom
Please bring Dex back

Gh is really disgusting right nowhey are killing off eveyone it seems

I’m curious whose signing off on the shows storyline? Is it Frank Valentini? The show head writers? And what are they smoking this year? I’m just not getting how the show thinks we are enjoying characters leaving, getting killed off or in these icky storylines, kissing cousins and perverted uncle screwing mother and daughter, Sonny outright killed and FBI agent, and the show tone this year is to be shocking and sleazy.

Agree 100%

Don’t forget the uncle has also screwed the mother-in-law.

So I guess we’ll never know who his parents are. Is GH making room for the return of Detective Lucky Spencer? Looks like he’s going to help Elizabeth with the mystery of Sam’s death. I liked Lucky as a cop.

Dex joins the long list of characters that have gotten the ax this year. ABC must really be cracking down on the budget. There are a lot of uneasy questions about the future of GH heading into 2025.

Evan made Dex likeable, and he was certainly easy on the eyes. But after 2 1/2 years, we still knew very little about Dex’s life before he came to Port Charles, his background, his parents, they never explored it much at all. His fate was sealed as an expendable character when he went from working for Sonny to being a cop.

And now Cyrus is a serial killer, which means the clock is ticking on Jeff Kober’s time on the show. There was no storyline reason for him to have killed Sam. It makes absolutely no sense. Nor does it make any sense that the PCPD were not notified about what happened to Sam. They totally dropped the investigation into Jagger’s death. The writing on this show has logic and continuity holes wide enough to drive an 18 wheeler through.

Of course Joss is going to end up pregnant. She’ll join Sasha, Brook Lynn when Chase eventually knocks her up, and probably Willow too after her roll on the floor with Drew. That’ll be four pregnancies at the same time. Since we’re going with so many soap cliches, the question is, which pregnant character will be taking a tumble down the stairs at the Quartermaines?

Long list? It’s not even long enough to be considered “long”.

Sam, Finn, Austin, Dex, Jagger, Heather, Scott, Robert, Valentin, Charlotte, Spencer, Esme, Blaze, Michael, all characters that were either killed off or otherwise written out, or left the show and/or are leaving the show. I’d call that a pretty long list for the year. Apparently we have different definitions of the word “long.” Been watching GH for 31 years, can’t remember a year that had this much cast turnover in a long time, if ever.

Considering only eight of them are regulars, it’s not nearly enough. And [some] of those left on their own accord. The cast list is too large. Many more need to/should be cut.

Oh relax, it’s just a soap opera.

I’m very relaxed, Michael. Very relaxed, but thank you for your concern.

Scott, what WAS that?

Michael. I don’t know whether to call you,” Captain Obvious,” or “ Sir Sanctimonious.”

Before Cyrus departs the shores of Port Charles, can he please kill Natalia?

Harry…I L-O-V-E that idea!!!!! I mean…ANYTHING to kick that god-awful WITCH Natalia off our TV screens. To me, awful characters (such as) Natalia are the reason(s) that TV remote controls were invented. LOL

I would be good with that, Harry. I don’t know whose bright idea it was that we got rid of Blaze, who I actually liked and liked her and Kristina as a couple, and we somehow kept her insufferable mother instead. And I like Eva LaRue too, but this character ain’t it.

While Cyrus is at it before Sonny has him “taken care of”, or whatever his exit is ultimately gonna be, I have a short list of other characters he can slip a little Digitalis to on his way out the door.

Noooooooooooo. Dex was a very good character and he and Josslyn were so sweet together. (Not to mention that Evan Hofer is great eye candy.) They never really explored Dex’s past. What a waste of story line potential for those two. TPTB don’t think ahead. If they want to get rid of someone, get rid of Gio. He’s a very cute kid and an excellent musician; but, his character is out of place and doesn’t seem to be doing anything.

Obviously this was Cyrus’s doing. The cause of death will prove to be Digitalis, just as it was with Sam.

Earlier in the week Dex had asked Cyrus about him being at the hospital on Halloween, with Dex assuming he was there to visit Lulu (still a vegetable at the time) and therefore being in violation of a restraining order. Cyrus denied visiting Lulu that day.

But then why was he at the hospital? And what else happened there on Halloween? That was the day that Sam shuffled off her mortal coil, of course. Now Dex wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer, but it was only a matter of time before he connected the dots there. And as soon as Cyrus realized he implicated himself in Sam’s murder, he tried to take Dex out at the Xmas tree lot. And when he survived the stabbing, had to divert to “Plan B”. Second verse, same as the first. Probably used the same needle.

Nobody else would have a motive to kill Dex. Any hostility Sonny might have had against him was gone the moment he got back on his proper medication. So how long will it take for the PCPD to figure out the obvious and have Cyrus in Hell soon enough to be an Xmas present for my dragons??

Now that he’s a cop killer, you would think they would take it more seriously, right?

Once he realizes what she may know, Cyrus may wind up framing Felicia for Sam and Dex’s deaths. Definitely not random that we saw her with Sam pre surgery and Dex as well.

If I hadn’t read all the stuff he posted about how sad he was to be leaving, I might believe the recent Spoiler, saying he’d gone undercover, no pun intended, faking his own death to catch the killer.

I called this happening and I am not upset by it. Evan Hofer is far too talent to be wasted in the role of Dex Heller, and I am hoping his next venture(s) will be amazing for him!!

You know, there’s always a twist to these kind of storylines, so maybe and hopefully they’ll bring sam and dex back to life and kill off Cyrus.

What are they doing to our GH? Is Frank asleep at the wheel? A once tight ship with mostly great writing is a mess of convoluted stories and questionable character motivation. Are they trying to get canceled? Wake up Frank.

I didn’t think Dex would die … but the show wasted so much time and opportunity on this character. He should have been AJ Quartermaine’s son. Just straight up. The show never made ANY attempt to weave him into the fabric of the show other than having shirtless sex with Josslyn. Waste of an actor and a character.

Makes you think you’d be scared to death to be in a hospital bed, when anyone could come in & murder you! Good grief. Ridiculous killing Dex (and Sam). Cyrus needs to fry. He is beyond redemption.

Love in Afternoon indeed. LOL!!!!

He’s probably so glad to be away from this drowning show. It is unfortunate what’s happened to our show this year.

I AM SO NOT HAPPY about this. First it Was Spencer Cassadine, Then Sam, now Dex.

It amazes me what is happening to GH. There was no build-up to his death. I actually thought it was a re-write of how Sam died, with the doctors trying to save him. It felt anti-climatic with Anna and Joss at the hospital. It seems GH is getting rid of too many actors, while some are staying that are grossly unpopular (Drew, Nina, and Eva LaRue).

If someone isn’t dying, the characters are angry. If not angry, they change occupations the way most people change clothes. Please focus on the main characters and before more new actors are brought in, how about bringing Valentin and Charlotte back? Resolving Jagger’s death? Who killed Austin? Who sent Ava messages earlier this year? Where is Diane during Alexis’s time of grieving? Why must Molly and Kristina have a scream fest once a week? Why are the writers acting like Brook Lynn is old enough to be Gio’s mother? Too many unfinished storylines. The most crazy is Anna acting mad at everyone about finding Valentin and Charlotte when she was the one that is responsible for them leaving PC.

Please save our show from Frank and ABC before it tanks!!!

I wish they would have killed off Cyrus instead.

Is GH purposely trying to get fans to stop watching the show??
They lost a lot of viewers by killing off Sam and now I am absolutely done.
Dex and Joss were one of the biggest reasons I loved GH. Their sweet love story was a breath of fresh air to all the miserable story lines.
The main focus it seems is to break up every reasonably happy couple and even though it’s a soap, the fans have a right to enjoy these couples without having to worry when one of them will be killed off, cheat or find out they are related.
These are
the worst writers in daytime history and Frank Valentini better do something about them or there will be no show to watch!
Wishing you lots of luck in your career, Evan. You deserved better than this.

This is good news for Evan Hofer, who was wasted in the role of Dex Heller. Plus, we really need to begin thinning the cast of General Hospital, in terms of series regulars. Cuts need to be made. Wishing Mr. Hofer the best with his future projects.

This is a little too soon, after the hook.storyline. Why is he worried about what Lulu knows? We saw hin order Julian to plant the bomb.

I HATE that they killed off Dex! Evan will be sorely missed. WTH is going on at GH? There was so much more to know about this character.

It seems none of Carly’s kids can love someone before they’re killed off or die. Josslyn’s two for two and Michael’s had his share or lovers dying on him.

I will miss Evan/ Dex terribly
Best actor on GH not to.mention how great looking he is. Frank you made a huge mistake and the poor ratings will back that up. So much untold story about Dex and Joss and Dex.
