One of our favorite contributors to Entertainment Weekly, Abby West was seen on yesterday’s episode of One Life to Live! Remember the scene where Bo gets on a plane to find David, and Rex is racing after him to get on board and the airline attendant says she cant do anything to help him?  That was EW.com’s Abby West in her acting debut during her fun visit to the folks in Llanview.

In her new piece , West documents her experience, especially getting to work John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex) and Robert S. Woods (Bo).  Here’s a bit of her journal for the day;  “By the time I showed up on the show’s Manhattan set at 8 a.m. in late January to film my little scene as a slightly sassy airline employee, the other actors and crew were in full swing. J.P. (yeah, we’re close like that now) was already in his dressing room, grabbing a bite, and watching a movie on his iPod as he waited to do his blocking. As a movie junkie, he was only too happy to talk pop culture and movie trivia as we hung out.

Next it was on to the hair and makeup room, where I got done-up alongside the fabulous Hillary B. Smith as she ran lines with her on-screen son Eddie Alderson. So I got to listen as Nora tried to convince Matthew of his uncle Clint’s many treacherous acts. Then Smith, Woods, J.P., and I went into a non-descript room to rehearse our scene with director Jill Mitwell. Yes, managing to remember my five very brief lines was very important to me, so I was glad for the chance to practice.”

Ryan Phillippe Opens Up About How Parents Shunned Him For Taking On Gay Role On One Life to Live & Part In ‘Cruel Intentions’

Ryan Phillippe has been in the entertainment news cycle this week. First, for the shocking premiere episode of Big Sky in which he is/was headlining (read more about that here) and also about his very candid remarks on the KFC Podcast.

During his interview (which you can watch the remarks below), Ryan shared that because of his religious upbringing his parents shunned him, most especially after his role in the comedy Cruel Intentions.

However, it all started when Phillippe first landed on our TV screens as the young Billy Douglas on One Life to Live – Billy was the first gay teenager ever portrayed on a daytime soap opera, and to this day this storyline remains one of the most groundbreaking for the genre.

In the conversation with the KFC Podcast, Ryan expressed:  “I’d grown up going to Baptist school, Christian school, and stuff. My first role ever, though, coming out of the Christian school when I was a senior in high school, I played the first gay character on a soap opera … the first gay teenager, ever. So I was shunned at that point, so they were already out of the picture.”

Then at 23, Ryan’s big follow-up role also sat badly with his religions parents when he landed in the 1999 film, Cruel Intentions in the role of Sebastian Valmont,  The film also starred former All My Children star, Sarah Michelle Gellar (Ex-Kendall) as well.  The cult movie featured a kiss between Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair; while Joshua Jackson played a gay role.  Phillippe was remembered for a nude scene and his character kissing his stepsister in the film.

Phillippe shared he would love to return to a role in the vein of Sebastian. “I’ve still never played a character like that since.  I’m dabbling in comedies here and there, I’m doing a lot of comedy stuff.  But I want to get back to playing a character like Sebastian in Cruel Intentions. It was just so fun to be so flippant and theatrical.”

Check out the podcast conversation below, followed by the key scenes where Billy tells his parents he is gay from One Life to Live.

Then in the comment section, share your thoughts on Ryan’s comments and if you loved him as Billy on One Life.
