Days Of Our Lives
Ex-DAYS Gloria Loring On Miley Cyrus VMA Performance with Robin Thicke: "I was not expecting her to be putting her butt that close to my son!"

Courtesy/OMGInsider
Miley Cyrus certainly stunned all of us with that tongue-waging and overtly-sexual (and that it putting it mildly) performance with over-sized Disney-esque characters on Sunday at the MTV Music Awards. Miley was joined by singer Robin Thicke on stage for the performances of his hit song, “Blurred Lines”. While Miley is all that anyone is talking about in the news or at any office watercooler, it would seem that Miley got all the attention she wanted in an attempt to transition her image permanently!
Meanwhile, Robin Thicke’s mother, former Days of our Lives star, Gloria Loring (Ex-Liz Chandler), watched with OMG Insider the performance of Miley and her son, and the show caught it on tape.
Loring blurts out, “I was not expecting her (Miley) to be putting her butt that close to my son!” Loring also added later, “I don’t understand what Miley Cyrus is trying to do. I think she’s misbegotten in this attempt of hers. And I think it was not beneficial.” But Gloria also echoed what all of us are seeing burned in our brains two days later when she uttered, “I can never unsee it!”
Watch Gloria’s reaction to Robin and Miley below, and then let us know what you thought of Miley Cyrus performance at the VMA’s? Were you shocked? Were you appalled? Or, do you think this was a smart and calculated PR move that in the end will pay off royally for Cyrus? And, what did you think of Robin Thicke’s performance in all this? Do you even remember it? Comment away!
Yawn. She tries WAY too hard. Sorry but it’s been done before and with way more class by others. She’s becoming a cartoon of herself.
From what I’ve read on this whole thing, most of the comments were negative for both Miley and Robin. I realize Miley is trying to get away from Hannah Montana, but this show was too far over the top. Someone, somewhere during rehearsals or whatever should have had the sense to say this is not good….
Of course Conni baby boy Robin knew what was going down. My next question is what is next sex on stage with animals. So this is what our men in the military are fighting for so we can show everyone what a classless nation we are.
Miley is an immature moran starving for attention and overly desperate to shed her goodygoody Disney image…what works for Lady Gaga(but shes becoming predictable and boring but what a great singing voice) doesnt work for Miley…id say she needs a good old fashioned butt paddling but she’d probably use it in her tiredly insipid act.
Personally, I would have liked to see Robin Thicke simply stop singing and walk off he stage for the disgusting behaviour of someone who I believe has now ruined her career or any hope for respect from peers and fans.
Last evening I spoke to four teens who knew of the VMA’s, one had viewed the show. They were unanimous in their reactions to the ‘performance’ by Miley. One young girl said it’s difficult enough to relate to boys as young women with standards of behaviour. Sad they felt that young boys, young men see a new public display of a lack of self respect for one’s own image.
They also agreed that the behaviour has now made them all decide to never support this performer again in any way.
Guess Miley will eventually feel the backlash of the VMA’s and her very, very bad choice to ‘act’ so very poorly in front of viewers and peers.
I do think she’s lost a lot of support and I don’t see how her family can be anything but disappointed in her lack of judgement.
Personally, I find it just so sad in the entertainment world, mostly it’s young women who are pressured to promote a sleazy side to who they are both on screen and in magazines.
Why would Robin Thicke walk off? This was *rehearsed* choreography that both of them had practiced together at least once, and most likely twice. It was basically a recreation of the uncensored version of his “Blurred Lines” video, with elements (the way she used the foam fingers and his referree outfit) from his new, deeply offensive (to some), “Give it 2 U” video. She did exactly what she was asked to do–she should have said, no, let’s not kid ourselves and it degraded her–but Robin Thicke was not disrespected in any way. He was a full particpant–it was *his* video she was acting out, not her idea to do this.
I think Miley is a sad little girl trying to be a grownup, and this was not the way for Miley to proclaim her adulthood! It was very distasteful and this could have been done in way that would have been sensuous but not disgusting! Being sexy does not mean being slutty! Miley could have been very sexy with this song, but instead came out looking like a little girl that is a low class wannabe adult!
I think Miley has been watching too much trashy reality shows if she thinks what she was doing was sexy. There is sexy and then there is vulgar and Miley sadly, like a lot talented young ladies out there today, doesn’t seem to know the difference. If her goal was to get attention– she got it– not sure in the long term it will help her. Unfortunately this clip will forever be a part of her video package, and even on her death, it will be shown– she will forever be the girl who did a dirty dance. As for Gloria has she listened to the lyrics of her baby boy’s song? He wasn’t a saint in all this– and his video of the song isn’t exactly classy either.
Thank you for covering Gloria’s reaction, i appreciated it! I do think that Robin came out looking basically better in all that, but still, there had to be a dress rehearsal, he must have known this was going to happen. Unless Miley performed at a 6 and then turned it up to an 11 when the cameras finally rolled, that could have happened. Either way, Robin is not likely to be a bystander in all this, but he clearly did not encourage her in the performance as she threw herself at him, so that’s good for him in the long run. Miley … please find yourself some self-worth. Madonna did this better, Britney did it better with her, and Gaga is the master. You just looked desperate.
You are absolutely right about there having been a dress rehearsal, and a choreography one before that. And it’s not just that Robin would have known from the rehearsal what “she had planned” — he knew because it was his idea. The whole thing was mashing up his two videos, the uncensored version of “Blurred Lines” and the sports and gyrating women themed “Give it 2 U”. She was literally acting out HIS video on the stage and frankly, since she had a bikini on, it was LESS explicit than the uncensored “BL” video. I am not quite sure how everyone is seeing it as she went out of control and somehow ruined his performance. If you watch his videos (especially the uncensored version of “BL” and the new one) you’ll see that this IS his performance and Miley was just another girl in a long line of women he has doing this (and worse) around him.
You are 100% completely right. I had no idea. I just watched the uncensored one. WOW. Thank you!
We were watching Breaking Bad like everybody else! Very few people would know about this if they were not still talking about it. Her father might try getting her some professional help but I understand he is a loser also.
Miley and Gaga can only get attention by being the trashiest. Notice none of the guys doing this? lol. Sad that they have to be almost naked and trashy to get attention. Their music is so bad that they have to have a reason to get people to buy their music. So sad that it’s not about the music anymore. Adele, where are you????
IT MAKES ME LAUGH THAT THIS FOOLISH GIRL WAS GIVING JUSTIN BEBIEBER ADVICE A FEW WEEKS AGO ,LIKE SHE HAD TOGETHER,
It looked like she is a little girl trying to act grown-up. FAIL.
Miley was trashy and is messed up. But to say – oh no, what’s she doing to Robin? Has she seen the music video for Blurred Lines? Has she listened to the music? I’m all about crazy-shaming, but Thicke and his ilk are part of the problem.
Here’s what I think: it’s sweet that his mother feels this way, but she clearly has not watched his videos, especially the uncensored version of the “Blurred Lines” video (with all the *actually* nude women dancing and crawling, especially the one who crawls topless in front of a sign that explicitly spells out ROBIN THICKE HAS A BIG D—-, and is only mildy changed in the censored version) and his new one for “Give it 2 U,” where he, among other things, has a woman dressed in cotton candy bend over in front of him as he pulls pieces off of her rear and eats them. I have another friend who says the way Miley got up on Thicke and bent over in front of him was pretty much like “assault” on Robin. Uhm, this is the choreography he approves and condones–and that was the performance they rehearsed. And while I understand his fans (my friend) and his mother’s disapproval, it seems to trend toward the insinuation that she was acting out of bounds, while he was a passive “victim” or onlooker. Nope, Robin Thicke is the ringleader and Miley doesn’t respect herself enough to say, “no, I’m not doing that.” She sadly thinks it’s cool.
It’s a shame that Robin was involved with this. Yes, he should have walked off or pushed her off him, or backed away. It doesn’t make either of them look good, but especially not her. Whatever respect I may have had for her has gone. It’s a shame she went there.
While I agree that it was a completely inappropriate display, I, too wonder why all these people are defending him or thinking she somehow did something that was unplanned/unexpected–so much that he would/should have walked off or pushed her off. This was a total “live version” of his video where he has topless women doing the exact same thing to him (and worse), and the foam #1 finger and the lewd gestures are from his other video. This is totally Robin’s “thing” — him singing while women do dirty things all around him. Miley was wrong to sign up for it, but this wasn’t her idea–it’s his idea. She was doing exactly what the girls in his scandalous video do to him (it was referencing that video)…and not the “censored” version of the video, the uncensored one you can Google anywhere where the women are dancing around him completely without a stitch and there are lewd phrases written up on the walls while he sings. I expect more of Miley than to agree to do that mess, but someone needs, with all due respect to that boy’s mother, to hold Robin Thicke accountable for the things he asks women to do when performing with him. If Gloria Loring is surprised that kind of thing was going on, she hasn’t been listening to the dirty lyrics her son sings in his new song (Give it 2 U) or watching the “uncensored” videos he thinks its cool to release for kids to watch. Why is Miley deserving of no respect after this and Robin Thicke a poor victim?
I stll miss Gloria Loring as Liz Chandler Curtis.
Does anyone think she could play the mother of GH’s “Ava Jerome????” We still don’t know the backstory, as far as her parentage goes….seems like a huge question mark on how she fits into the Jerome family tree, since she was not featured the first time the crime clan was portayed. Just not buying that she and Julian are full brother and sister…they don’t seem to be very cohesive, like loving siblings, more like business partners….simply a thought!
I’ll bet she would never give back all the millions she made as Hannah Montana or the fame that came with playing that character which she now despises, apparently. Miley can be as nasty and trashy as she wants but most people will still remember her as that Disney character. This new image and her desperate antics are not working to get people to see her as a sexy adult. Instead she looks like a little girl trying way too hard to show everyone that she’s not a Disney princess anymore. I wish she had more self-respect for herself.
Calculated, absolutely. BUT, not smart. Yes, people are talking about her, but not in a positive way. I felt so embarrassed for her. She’s young and clueless. If a girl wants to shed the girl image, then she needs to ACT and BEHAVE like a woman, like a lady with class.
I saw that act as Miley being a party drunk wannabe stripper / fail .
lol
There was a news item today from producers at MTV that stated while this was rehearsed, Miley took it further. On the ‘carpet’ she said she planned on making this award show memorable and so she did. Sad thing is the public reacted and 2 of her songs hit #1 and #2 that night. Currently she is #3 and 6 on Billboard charts. So the public has some responsibility. Clearly the more risqué the more the public responds. We see it all the time, including our soaps. We demand certain behavior in order to be entertained.
As for Miley, it was too much, too soon. The public now have certain expectations – what will she do in her next performance? And shes only 20!! A lot more years to try and come up with the ‘buzz’ to keep herself relevant.
Love Gloria Loring! Love her! As for that blurred lines song, I guess I just don’t get it. It’s raunchy already, and the video is crude, so this VMA stuff is more of the same. I’m 42, and maybe that’s old for some people, but I wouldn’t want my daughter up there disrespecting herself, and I wouldn’t want my talented son wasting his gift on such non-sensical trashy songs. On the other side of the coin, that sh*t is what’s selling in 2013 America.
Miley is in my opinion not a very good singer and had to draw attention to herself somehow. I would be ashamed of myself if I acted like her but I am not desperate and I know I can’t sing; so no pressure. As for Robin, I feel this was not a good act for him to partake in. His “Blurred Lines” song did not need promoting of this sexual nature. People won’t forget either of them for this performance. The damage has been done.
Miley who?
Seriously, she appeared to be a trashy, classless slut. Not a great way to jump start one’s career. Leave the damned glove for Michael Jackson (for some reason I didn’t mind it AS MUCH with him, although I didn’t like it much either)
I don’t want to set a double standard, but these moves from Miley were just appalling. She is not a pretty girl, and the weird hairdo and the glove simply exacerbated her unattractiveness. Of course, I don’t know her personally and perhaps she is a lovely young woman. But probably not, or she would not have performed in that style.
I amend my previous comment. Robin is completely culpable, and Gloria, where were was your moral indignation when your son was making his uncensored version of his BL video? I won’t link it here, but it’s right there on youtube, not hard to find, folks. Your son was equally responsible for that display as Miley was. Watch the video (as if you haven’t yet), and you will see that Miley was, indeed, as another poster above noted, simply acting out what the naked women in that video were doing. The tongue waggling, the flesh bikini (which was twice as much clothing as the video models had on), the foam finger, and the moves were all straight out of the video that Robin created, not her. Miley has her own issues, certainly. But “I didn’t know she would be putting her butt so close to my son?” Please. Did you know the models’ boobs would be all up in his personal space? And those were naked, as opposed to her butt! HYPOCRITICAL MUCH? M’kay.
