EXCLUSIVE: Jacob Young Speaks On His Status With B&B & Prospect Park Concerning AMC's JR Chandler!

CBS Daytime soap fans keep a keen eye in the coming weeks on Rick Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful! And while things are heating up for him at Forrester Creations, his portrayer Daytime Emmy winner, Jacob Young chatted with On-Air On-Soaps about his current status with B&B, after all the headlines that Prospect Park revitalized their efforts and will soon launch All My Children 2.0!
As soap fans know, while Young has played Lucky Spencer on General Hospital, Rick on B&B, he is most identifiable for his performances as the troubled son of Adam Chandler, JR on All My Children! And, in the final episode of ABC’s version of the iconic soap, JR with gun in hand … shot at someone! It appeared to be Erica Kane (played by Susan Lucci), or did the distraught Chandler possibly turn the gun on himself? Or, did it simply misfire?
When we caught up with Jacob, he filled us in on his future with The Bold and the Beautiful and if there was any way we might see him return as Pine Valley’s bad boy, JR! Here is what he had to say below!
Jacob on his thoughts on AMC finally moving online, how he feels about it, and his status with B&B: “I am happy for them. A lot of the people that I worked with have signed on and they will have a shot at it again and have a job. I hope that it gets on its feet and starts growing. Obviously, I am here on The Bold and the Beautiful which is probably the best job to have, and best place to be at on daytime. It is a fantastic place to work. I could not be more thrilled. As a man, and as a person with integrity and honor, I do in the back of my mind feel the need to express to Brad Bell, and to the producers of AMC, to give them an explanation as to why I can’t do it. Obviously, I am under contract. I cannot lie, Prospect Park did come to me and they said, ‘Jacob, obviously you are under contract, but where would we be if we weren’t asking you to come over?’ I said, ‘I understand. If there was anything I could do, and if it was in my power, I would absolutely, but ultimately I am here at B&B.’ It’s not my way to rock the boat. I am very lucky to be surviving in this industry, and be airing on television.”
Jacob on what he thinks will happen to the character of JR post-ABC cliffhanger, and what he has heard in terms of a recast for the role: “From what I understand, they are going to be moving the show forward a year, so they can get past that point. They told me every time they try to write the story, JR obviously would come into the picture. They also told me whether I could, or could not do AMC; they were going to continue on with the character regardless. I said, ‘I understand.’ But then I had a couple of friends tell me that they are up for the role of JR! They called and said, ‘Hey dude, I am up for your role!’ And I would go, ‘Yeah? Good.’ If it means another one of my fellow actors I know gets the job, than I am very happy for them. It’s a special character and always will be.”

Starting on May 1, All My Children fans in Canada will be able to see classic episodes of the beloved former ABC soap opera when they stream on Pluto TV Canada.
Pluto TV picked-up the All My Children Channel that the Nixon family has created in partnership with BEONDTV +. The show which aired for 41 years on ABC and ended on the network in 2011, had so many memorable storylines and characters; the least of which is the enduring run of Erica Kane played by soap icon, Susan Lucci.
As previously reported, starting with episodes from the year 1995, which was the 25th anniversary of the soap. Pluto TV Canada viewers will be able to catch 8 episodes on repeat per day. With the success of the venture, the Nixons are hopeful that they will bring viewers many more years of the show to come.

Sarah Nixon, producer, shared with Michael Fairman TV exclusively, “We are thrilled that Pluto TV has launched All My Children in Canada! Let’s hope the engagement from our incredibly loyal fans across the border will encourage ABC to bring it to the U.S.! We share what Aggie (Agnes Nixon) always felt, that it is the enthusiasm and love from the fans that has kept this legacy beloved and relevant – to this day!”
In addition, 0ne week ago, during Susan Lucci’s visit to Los Angeles promoting her book La Lucci, she was joined by her former Pine Valley castmates, Rebecca Budig (ex-Greenlee, AMC, now Taylor, B&B) and Eva LaRue (ex-Maria, AMC) and the trio posed for a pic. At that time, LaRue shared via Instagram, “NEW All My Children channel streaming classic episodes 24/7 now on Pluto TV Canada! Fingers crossed to watch soon on Pluto US.”
That was also confirmed this week by TV Watercooler’s Jeevan Brar who took to X and expressed, “The All My Children channel begins streaming this Friday, May 1 on Pluto TV Canada.

Saul Consuelos, the father of All My Children alum and Live with Kelly and Mark co-host, Mark Consuelos (ex0-Mateo, AMC), has died. During an emotional moment on this mornings, April 6 edition of the syndicated talk show, Mark shared, that his dad, “passed away peacefully” back on March 23 following a long illness.
His wife and co-host, Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) paid tribute to her her father-in-law expressing, he was, “the greatest person I’ve ever known. I can honestly say I will miss him every day for the rest of my life, as I know you will, as our children will. He really is so symbolic of everything you are.”
Kelly and Mark’s children, Joaquin, Michael and Lola Consuelos are said to be taking this extremely hard. Ripa added, “This is the first loss they’ve ever experienced in their lives. And I said, ‘By the time I was 8, I had no grandparents. You got to grow up (with grandparents). You got to have deep, meaningful conversations (with them).”

In another moment, Mark reflected on his dad. “It’s funny, I used to make a joke about my dad … if you asked him what time it was, he would tell you how to build a watch. There were a lot of lectures, a lot of lectures and I learned so much. If he was fixing something in the house, he’d make me watch and do it. And I didn’t know at the time why he was doing that. But now at the house, I’m able to do at least half of the stuff that he did. I learned the most by just watching him.”
Mark added that Saul Consuelos came to the U.S. from Mexico in his early teens and served our county for decades, detailing, he “Ended up at Special Operations Command in Tampa. This young kid from Mexico just got his education from the navy. Was always going to school. Was brilliant. Got his Masters while I was a kid. He loved his country so much, If you’re going to put a face to an immigrant, he would be the prime example of what this country promises people.”
In a very heart-tugging moment, Consuelos shared that now its important they be there for his mother, Camilla. “We gotta take care of mom. We’re trying to convince my mom to move to New York. She’s such a character, she’s stubborn. What do you think, a cooking segment here on Fridays with Camilla?”

Sarah Michelle Gellar Visits ‘The View’ Where Hosts Sidestep Controversial ‘Buffy’ Reboot Axing, But Talk ‘All My Children’
On yesterday’s March 17 episode of The View, All My Children alum, Sarah Michelle Gellar (ex-Kendall Hart), was the special guest. Since Monday, Gellar has been the subject of a hot-button issue since about the surprising turn of events that the highly-anticipated Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, in which she stars, and which was directed in the pilot by Oscar-winning director, Chloé Zhao, was no longer moving forward.
Gellar‘s appearance on the ABC morning talk show was devoid of any mention of Hulu cancelling its planned Buffy: New Sunnydale, in which Sarah was set to appear along with Ryan Kiera Armstrong. However, Gellar did discuss her new movie Ready or Not 2: Here I Come from Searchlight Pictures.
It should be noted that both Hulu and Searchlight Pictures are owned by The Walt Disney Company, while The View is produced by ABC News, which is also owned by The Walt Disney Company.

During the awkward interview, when it became clear the ‘Buffy’ reboot topic was off the table, The View co-host Sunny Hostin, talked about the “intense fight scenes” that have become a staple of her TV and film career starting with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Scream 2, and I Know What You Did Last Summer.
The ladies of The View also brought up Sarah’s beginnings on All My Children as Kendall Hart (1993-1995), showing a scene with her and her on-screen mother, the iconic Erica Kane, played by Susan Lucci. The discussion sprung out of another All My Children alum, Michael B. Jordan (ex-Reggie Montgomery) winning the Oscar this past Sunday for Best Actor for his role in Sinners. The View’s Joy Behar was quick to point out with Gellar, the All My Children alums that have gone on to great fame.

Previously on Monday, Gellar opened up to PEOPLE about being blindsided before while at the SXSW Film & TV Festival premiere for Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. “I got the call as we were stepping onto stage for the premiere of their own movie. And it’s also the weekend of Chloé going to the Oscars as a best director nominee for Hamnet. For them to call us on the Friday of what should have been Chloé’s victory lap for an incredible film, and my world premiere of something that I worked very hard for is… that says something.”
She went to say, “We had an executive on our show who was not only not a fan of the original, but was proud to constantly remind us that he had never seen the entirety of the series and how it wasn’t for him.” Deadline reports that “multiple sources” identified the executive as Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich.
“I loved the duality that we had with this new, younger slayer who was where Buffy was when the show started, and then we would pick up with where Buffy was now,” Gellar told People about the setup. However, according also to Deadline “After the pilot was completed and delivered, according to multiple sources, Hulu’s main note was that it played too young, with some indicating that the streamer also felt the show was too “small.”’
In the rewrite, sources also told the outlet that the writers did not take big enough swings, so they set out to do a rewrite it again. The last revision was more adult, featuring a lot more of Gellar’s Buffy, and was described as a more of a streaming show than a network one. When all is said and done there is hope that another Buffy IP will be up and running within the next couple of years.

Very disappointed that Jacob will not join AMC online. Though, there have been others, he is the one I most identify JR with. Happy he’s doing well on B&B but it won’t be the same with a recast.
Interesting question bec JY is the reason I found AMC in the first place! I loved him as Rick Forrester – he was fascinating, gorgeous & very talented in more ways than one – so when I accidentally discovered JY playing JR on AMC one nite on Soapnet while flipping channels, I was thrilled! I ended up giving up B&B bec of finding JY on AMC & watched for the next 7 yrs! Became a huge AMC fan – all bec of him! So I have mixed feelings – I love RF, but I can’t really see anyone else but JY as JR. I guess we’ll see, bec I intend watching PP’s AMC!
I love Jacob Young & the character of JR but it makes sense for him to stay on at B&B, and frankly i’m hoping for a crossover with Y&R since Jabot is moving into the fashion industry, hopefully reuniting JY and Melissa Claire Egan as co-stars again if only for a story arc. As for JR, i think Forbes March could be great in the role, or Jay Kenneth Johnson. I think both those actors have the looks and chops to pull off JR Chandler.
I agree with you Skyla. I wish AMC well but without Adam Chandler, JR and Annie I will just keep my memories. Hey CBS! How about a YR/BB crossover with Chelsea and Rick?
There’s gotta be a reason they are writing Chelsea in the fashion business now right? Rick needs to visit Genoa City or Chelsea needs to go LA.
I be in favor for crossovers- anything to make BB more interesting- if visits from the folks from Genoa city help I say they should go for it- and if JY and MCE have previous chemistry to work off of even better- God knows both characters need something to get them out of Dullsville.

JY has been wasted on BB, and even more so then DM on YR. Rick should be the male lead, instead of Liam, he has earned and has the chops. Also Amber should also be front and center. I would find a story of Rick choosing Amber or Carolyn way more entertaining then Liam/Hope/Steffy. That little story obviously fell flat and was a wasted opportunity, and with Amber’s History with Thomas (She took his virginity) would complete the front burner quadrangle. If not JY needs to head back to AMC or GH. SC needs to head back to GH as Dillon.
I couldn’t agree with you more, MK. B&B revolves around 3 characters, the worst ones at that. His talent is totally wasted. There’s only one person to play JR Chandler, and that’s Jacob Young. Let’s hope that he changes his mind when his contract ends, and goes to AMC reboot.
I couldn’t agree more! I’ve tried watching B&B (post AMC) and just couldn’t do it. I grew up watching AMC, then later GH and eventually OLTL .. Jacob Young has been the best JR, period! I’m hoping that if & when the PP reboot of AMC takes off he’ll feel more confident in jumping onboard. Perhaps whoever they cast as JR could have a shortterm contact (say it ends when Jacob’s does with B&B)… see where the shows stand at that point in time & go from there?
I loved Jacob on AMC but don’t feel the same about his character on B&B. Jacob is an amazing actor but his storyline right now is just not interesting. Rick is one dimensional right now and I agree Jacob’s talent is wasted. The Liam/Steffy/Hope triangle isn’t interesting as two out of the three just seem so selfish. Oddly enough bad girl Steffy is the only one of the three which seems to have her act together. Hope can have Liam. Give Steffy a better storyline!
Actually the story that JY was pursuing Steffy was the only time when he shined and it had loads of potential and it was dropped for no reason.
Funny, because I did not care for JY as Lucky on GH, but absolutely LOVED him as JR on AMC!
I can’t say I blame him. He has a cushy job on a show, and a family to support, why would he risk that? Even if AMC does fantastic in its new format, how could anyone blame him for wanting that stability and certainty (as anyone can have on any given soap) that B&B is offering him? All the best to him in whatever he’s doing.
There have been a few JRs, I’m sure that the next actor will do a great job.
I totally understand Jacob’s position. He made some excellent points. The daytime job market is HORRIBLE. He was right to job onboard @ B&B, but the character of Rick can’t hold a candle compared his alter ego on AMC as JR. Jacob was absolutely BRILLIANT as JR & he will always be missed. I’m still keeping my fingers & toes crossed Jacob will return to the role of JR someday. I mean, if Roger Howarth can return to play his alter ego as Todd then never say never, right? 😉
No, I do not watch Jacob on B&B. I tried to watch it when AMC and OLTL went off the air, but I couldn’t do it. I think B&B is the worst show on TV. It revolves around 3 characters, and when those 3 aren’t on screen, they are being talked about or fought over by the other characters. I find it very hard to believe that a show with such poor story lines remains, when great shows like AMC and OLTL, with such rich history and great writing, were canceled. Personally, I think Jacob should bow out at the end of his next contract, and go play the character that only he can play. Come on, there’s only one JR Chandler….it’s Jacob Young.

It makes sense for him to stay obviously but I personally preferred Kyle Lowder as Rick. I never cared for Jacob in that role…either the first time or this time out. However he does have the part so I wish him the best..and I wonder who will play JR for PP.
It will be sad not having Jacob Young in the role of JR, but it would be foolish for him to give up his role on B&B. Especially, since Jr is more than likely in prison, a mental facility, dead or in a coma depending on how the story is written. As to who should play the role if recast; if Daniel Cosgrove will be returning as Scott Chandler, then I suggest that Adam Mayfield (who has also played Scott) be considered for the role of JR. I always thought the resemblance to Adam and Stuart was there even though Scott is not a Chandler biologically.
Not true… since when have the Chandler’s ever gotten themselves into trouble and not been able to buy their way out of it? Adam will have undoubtedly lawyered him up and paid off the judge by now! lol

He will always be the best JR but do understand when ABC dumped them he had to find another job and CBS seems more secure.AMC is my favorite soap.And relly love to see it come bak the same.But there are alot who have not been ask and I wonder why?I haqve read several would go if ask.Where are you PP.There waiting.

He’s the only JR Chandler for me and that will never change but I undertsand where’s Jacob coming from. He’s got a family to provide for and BB is much more stable. Plus the AMC writers basically screwed him over with their writing of JR at the end.
You didn’t like Jesse McCartney? He was my favorite, but Jacob Young certainly made the role his own.
I want Jacob Young back at AMC but if he wishes to be at B&B thats fine it is his decsion i just hope that when his contract is up he comes back to AMC

While I think that no one could play “JR” like Jacob Young did, I think that a re-cast is in order. When AMC ended it left the viewer dangling with no answer to whom that bullet headed. We want to know. Also “JR” is vital to the storyline to continue the “Chandler” family stories that we all loved. Although the Chandlers were not original to AMC’s founding, they became an integral part of the storyline. If David Canary were to come back to the story it would make AMC the great soap it once was. I am so grateful for your bringing AMC back to us! Good luck to all involved! LONG LIVE AMC!
He was all ready leaving AMC to go to B&B anyway. Hate B&B that soap is a waste of air space!! Every time i watch its the same story and same 3 stars over & over. Has Liam picked one yet I mean that’s gone on for 3 years LOL. CBS is the channel for soaps you want to fall a sleep watching.
JR would be stupid to go to online versus TV sad but true. JR will be missed. He’s the best Chandler. Well and the chandlers aren’t even around anymore so what good is AMC online going to be?? We need Adam JR Liza & Annie !!!

I don’t know why he stays on B&B. He’s hardly had the airtime he did as JR, much less the story material. The Hope/Liam/Steffy show does not deserve to have someone as talented as him. However, if he’s happy there then I’m happy for him.

Though I understand why he wouldn’t want to give that up, his role on that show is crap, but then again the whole show is crap these days. How about Justin Torkildsen or Kyle Lowder as JR, how ironic would that be??!!

I would love to see Jacob come back to AMC. I also love seeing him on B&B. Ok here is how it should go. Replace JR on AMC temporarily until his contract is up with B&B. Or let him do little short scenes on AMC until his contract is up. I like seeing him on both but know he should be on AMC. He does his best work at JR.
I have followed Jacob Young as he traveled to B&B and because of this I have learned to love that show. I am sad about the JR character as I have followed AMC for 36 years. I watched JR come into the story as a kid who was later recasted with Jacob. As long as the new character “looks” like Jacob I believe we will adjust (it just takes time) When they had a oriental woman turning into a white woman aka Blair. That was simply dumb. I love the flame Jacob brings to JR but he has brought that same flame to B&B. Either way I see him brightening up the screen. Good Luck Jacob in all that you do.

I loved Jesse McCartney in the role, loved Jacob in this role, look forward to the same with the next actor.

I think they should cast Justin Hartley as the new JR. I have missed him ever since ‘Passions’ was cancelled, and I think he would do the role of JR justice (not to mention he’s very easy on the eyes!). I would LOVE to see him play opposite Lindsay Hartley (his real life wife) and pursue her character Cara romantically – those two have excellent chemistry on-screen!
Of course I will miss Jacob terribly, as he was the entire reason I started watching AMC in the first place! His man-beauty caused me to freeze in mid-channel-flip one day, and after that I was hooked!
Last I heard, Lindsay had filed for divorce so I don’t think she’d be too thrilled to have Justin on her show.
He’s got a job. And it’s probably a bit more secure than PP so I totally don’t blame him for staying put. If he were unemployed, it might be a diff story.

Love JR on the B&B I started watching the show when I heard that he was going to B&B I will miss him on AMC I watch the show when it was in black and white was so sorry when it was cancel now it is coming back to the internet I hope it will be the same as before and as good hoping to see all the cast or at least most of them as for who you should cast as JR Trey Mitchell from GH he gone from Gh think he be a great one for the roll or maybe Luke Perry or Johathan Lavery fr. The Y&R he would be a great J R Good luck to the show I will be watching hope you let us know who you pick for the new JR
I adore him as J.R. but he can’t simply break his contract… but damn whoever gets J.R. is going to have a hell of time filling his shoes.
I will miss Jacob as JR but I will get use to someone else. I tried watching B&B because Jacob was in it but his character doesn’t have the depth that JR had. Hope he is happy at B&B but he will always be JR to me.
JACOB YOUNG made JR Chandler on ALL MY CHILDREN an interesting character. Have to totally give him credit for that without a doubt. It would be great if he could reprise the character for the on-line presentation, but, if they have to recast the role, so be it. My primary concern is that there may be so many re-casts all at once, fans may wonder what show are we watching here anyway ~ so, I am sure that they will gently insert new characters here and there while transitioning over – there will be some new faces in Pine Valley for sure.
I really hope that they find someone wonderful to fill Jacob’s shoes as JR. He was not the original JR to me, Jesse McCartney was. Jacob was a hard sell to fill Jesse’s shoes. So these will not be easy shoes to fill, however I keep an open mind and heart understanding that soap stars do move on and we have to try and accept new. Just like when Sarah Michelle Geller left the role of Kendall and Alicia Minshew took over, it was hard to adjust but Alicia made the role her own.
Am I sad that he’s not returning to AMC as JR Chandler?! No. I feel like he’s fitting in better as Rick Forrester on B&B, and has a stronger story and more stability on CBS. I say recast it, and cannot wait to see who does get the role of JR Chandler.

Jacob is and will always be JR Chandler to me. I am a diehard DIE TO THE HARD JR and Annie fan. It saddens me how AMC they literally threw them away, b/c there was a time where you could have kept the integrity of the couple but they crapped on it. I would advise CBS crossover Melissa Claire Egan and Jacob Young to the same show, those two are electric and would bring real love and sexyness to the afternoon soaps line. I’m pulling for Chelsea and Rick to find their way to each other, I need this.
It is on my wish list to. I can’t believe CBS hasn’t done this already. The paing of Rick and Caroline is a epic fail. I believe they already know this and are again chem-testing him with someone else. They have a for sure thing right in front of them. MCE and JY can both act and have explosive chemistry that happens rarely. After all the time that has passed the Jannie fan base is still huge. Teri, I also hated how they crapped on this couple. The soap world owes the fans their pairing.
If CBS does that, I would totally watch whatever show that pairs them!

ok, im confused , jacob young said he can’t join the reboot of AMC ‘because he’s under contract with B &B, well ,isn’t john ,starr and todd under contract also with GH, if prospect park owns john.starr and todd ,even thou their under contract with GH ,doesn;t prospect park own jacob young too ??? just wondering ,
Barbara it is just the characters they can not force the actors to take these rolls that is how I understand it though their is some confusion with ME because he signed to do PP before they bellyed up but a good lawyer can blow that out of the water.

Why don’t they just hire Kyle Lowder to play JR on AMC??
I think he’d be smart staying with B&B….its established, its on tv & no one knows how AMC will fare on the web.This is such a bad time for actors.I wish AMC & OLTL the very best, but they are not a sure thing yet.
