Carlos Rivera took his final breathes on Friday’s General Hospital thus marking the end of the run for his portrayer, Jeffrey Vincent Parise.  The actor first appeared on the soap back in 2013.  This is the second time that Parise has been killed off during May Sweeps.  Last year, Carlos apparently met his maker via bullets from Anna (Finola Hughes), but Carlos survived and lived on!  The criminal has been on the run since causing havoc for many of the citizens of Port Charles.

Over the last few days, fans have taken to social media to show their support and their appreciation for the talents of Parise who made Carlos, a one of a kind bad guy.  On Saturday, now that GH viewers saw Carlos’ final demise, Parise took to Twitter to express publicly: “I’m overwhelmed w gratitude by the outpouring of kind words & condolences. You’ve all moved me deeply #GHbestFans”

In an interview in this week’s Soap Opera Digest, Parise spoke about his exit from the ABC daytime drama series for the second and final time.  Parise spoke of taping his death scenes where William deVry’s Julian Jerome stabs Carlos:  “As it was happening,  I felt the shock of it, as if somebody just turns off your lights or dimmed them almost to be off and you know they were going to get turned off. It was this just horrible feeling of, ‘Too soon, I’m not done yet, I’m not done.’  And then, being on the gurney and having doctors looking over me.  I just went there and it felt like I was dying in some sense.  And a part of me was dying, this part of me, this character, this person, Carlos, that I’ve developed for the past years and lived with and within, was dying.  And so it was a very profoundly emotional scene.”

Parise also went on to share about what went down after his final scenes were taped, when GH surprised him with an on set cake celebration and farewell: “It was funny because Carlos was stabbed with Helena’s dagger and Frank (Valentini) gave me the dagger to cut the cake with.”

The actor then shared Valentini’s speech in front of the on set cast and crew and his reaction to it.  Valentini said of Parise, “You know, you were supposed to come on for a few months, and three years later you’ve done over 150 episodes. You’ve come into our artistic community and touched each and every one of us. We’ve learned from you and I hope you’ve learned from us. We’re in a very busy week and we’ve been having 12-hur days, but I felt like we had to stop production for a few moments to acknowledge you.”   Parise was overcome stating: “I was fighting back tears.”

So, will you miss Jeffrey on GH?  What did you think of his work as Carlos Rivera over the past several years?  Will Carlos go down as one of soaps most memorable and unique bad guys?  Share your thoughts in the comment section below!

Jeffrey you are one of the most talented actors #GH has ever found. Really Carlos wasn’t a nice guy but you managed to make us like & care for him. That’s talent mister. Please keep us up to date on what you’re doing. Love forever!!!

My sentiments exactly. I think GH really missed the boat, as I have said, by not making Parise a permanent fixture on GH. He has it all–talent, PASSION, and great, smoldering good looks–to say nothing of that sexy voice. He is an actor that the “classic” soap would have killed for. (Sigh!)

I totally agree with everything you’ve said, and hope we will be seeing him again soon. Good luck Jeffrey!

I loved Carlos from day one. Jeffrey is a great actor and very good looking but more important, has a ton of charisma. GH did miss the boat in keeping him on the canvas. I am sorry to see him go and hope that he shows up on another show soon.

i never liked the character, i thought he was more weasel then bad ass, however, theres no denying the actor was very good at what he did, and its a testament to him as a person, that the shows ep/rank Valentini would give him a sendoff like that also showed how loved and respected he was by cast a crew.,this was a nice story sendoff to read about.

Okay, so maybe Carlos has one of those twins somewhere. The good twin. Hate to lose such a good actor.

I see him coming now–and he is a priest–lol! To have two priests on GH at the same time–HEAVEN! 🙂

Nah, priests are lame. It’s time we had God-oriented characters who are NOT priests. Don’t you think?

Hey Jeffery V. Praise, I really hate that you are leaving the show, you are an awesome actor. Good Luck in all that is to come to a wonderful actor!

Robin <3

Too much of a talent too lose. Maybe they can create another character for him loke Michael Easton. LISTEN UP POWERS TO BE!

Emmy…Yes!!!

JVP is a fantastic actor, and brought so many layers and depth to the role of Carlos. However, he never should have returned from the dead the first time around. He was shot several times by Anna, and his death at the pier seemed very final. I’m not sure what the purpose to his return was, but if any character should have been brought back from the dead, it’s Duke, not Carlos.

Maybe now Y&R can scoop up JVP as a relative of Luca’s. It would be great to see him on another soap, since he’s such a talented actor, and plays a bad guy superbly.

Mr.Parise, you should return as Fr.Joseph Vincent Rivera….your death scenes were awesome.

He actually made me root for a mobster. Something Sonny, Jason the unholy three have ever done before. I have now just shut the show off, Jeffrey we miss you. carlos was no worse than the midget mobster running around shooting characters in cold blood and putting hits on others.two gun stone cold left me cold. Carlos put a smile on my face quite a few times. Since the show is back to Jason and sonny can do no wrong I am gone.JEFFREY IS A VERY TALENTED ACTOR. Good luck to him,

As soon as this show hires someone who can actually act.they are gone.Billy Warlock comes to mind.

the truth: “…Since the show is back to Jason and sonny can do no wrong”

dim king pin indeed…. Sonny, Jason, and Julian

I was crying last night…. “don’t kill my husband”

it was take my breath away… to see Carlos floundering in the water to stay afloat

I have to rewatch Fridays ep’ – i’m hoping at the very minimum Carlos mentioned Sabrina and his son

alas… another potential actor… has been let go

it was a cold blooded murder… and it was chilling to watch ; both William DeVry and Jeffrey Vincent Parise… act this out

it was high stakes drama…. is Julian back in the mob… or he out right did this to protect his lover of a wife… and Alexis is spared defending Carlos for Julian… and it was all done for LOVE

sigh! I think Julian and Alexis are dull

He is an phenomenol actor, and I loved every moment of his character..We saw the bad guy ,but also the warmer side of Carlos ..I will miss Carlos, and hoped to have saw more of the warmer side of him..he was amazing in scenes with Teresa, although I did not want them together as a couple..I enjoyed them together as friends.I DO WISH HE HAD NOT BEEN KILLED OFF SO THAT HE COULD DO RETURN VISITS…I wish him alll good things in the future.. wanted so much to chat when did the chat BECAUSE i wanted to know more about Jeffrey the artist..but the setup was different than when Michelle Stafford did chat on facebook months ago..I would love to see some of his work..I had saw one painting, and was very nice.. He has many talents ..Good luck Jeffrey

Jeffrey Vincent Parise, my luved Carlos.
His death scenes, from his stabbing to his last breath was captivating, I was awestruck..
All I can say is; BRAVO Jeffrey Vincent Parise !

When any soap gets an actor of the caliber of Jeffery and lets him go, well they braindead Idiots.

Re JVP: su0000, we are simpatico again! 🙂

We will miss u on GH…..u r an awesome actor…and maybe u never know someday Carlos will return!!!!! I SURE HOPE SO!!!

Adios Carlos RIP!!! 😉

I love Jeffrey so much, he gave real humanity to a very complex and destuctive character. I’m so sorry he’s gone, but I live in the hope that his twin brother/lookalike/cousin will appear in Port Charles. Just look at Michael Easton! He’s on #5! Frank, please find a way for Jeffrey to return. He is a truly gifted actor and GH is the better for him. In the meantime, I wish him much success in acting, in art, or whatever he turns his talents towards.

I count Finn, Silas, John and Stephen…who’should the fifth?

Ugh, autocorrect! Who’s the 5th?

I expect the purpose was to redeem Anna from being a stone cold murderer as well as to have Julian face some consequences for settings up the hit on Duke as well as trying to pin the hit on an innocent Jason and set him up to be killed by Sonny in retribution. That was one of Ron Carlivati’s worst traits as a HW. He always seemed to rush for big plot points without really thinking through the aftermath. He mostly just swept the non existent fallout under the rug. I think the new writers are trying to resolve some of these stories and I’m sorry to see the Carlos actor go but short of ratting out Julian I don’t see where else there was to go with the character.

Hmmm…We’ve seen a few doppelgängers in the soaps. Even on the news the other day they were seriously discussing that everybody has a twin somewhere. How about having Jeffrey V come back as a real priest this time. Port Charles could seriously use some type of spiritual help. 🙂

They just had one priestly reveal and GH’s last priestly doppelganger was a flop. How about an artist or lawyer?

Jbj…i don’t remember another priestly doppelgänger. YJeffrey being a priest was meant as a lighthearted suggestion. He’s just too “complicated” tlooking, and it would be a waste? Artist is taken by Franco. No more lawyers or doctors. A little dangerous but not necessarily a criminal. WSB agent?

Off the top of my head, I can’t remember the characters’ or actor’s names, but the last recurring priest on GH was the identical twin of one of Sonny’s hitman enemies. He last appeared during the Metrocourt hostage crisis in 2007. I think the actor was also on Oz. He was popular enough to bring back after the hit man was killed off, but was underutilized as a priest.

My artist suggestion came from what little I know about JVP. They’ve made a point that Franco has lapsed in his artistry, so it might be interesting to have a character who is non-villainous antagonize Franco into making art again.

The villain was Carlos Ruiz!

Robert LaSardo was the actor.

Oops, the characters were named Manny and Mateo Ruiz. And while the actor has been in many, many things, Oz was not one of them.

Sorry to see him go.

Hi Jeffrey, I must say you definitely are one of the best actors that was ever on General Hospital! I loved it every time you were on! I really hate it that they killed you! Hope somehow they can find a way to bring your character back, or just give you a new character to play! Please let us know if you plan to act on any show, movie, or whatever!!!!!! Good luck & many new blessings to you in the future! I, for one, have been truly smitten by you!!!!!!!!!!!

I need to give the ”Director” of Carlos’s death scenes from first stab to last breath a BRAVO!..
The directing was above the norm, by far..
It was the director (not the writing) that gave us the intense life, emotions (and of course Jeffer’s superb acting..
We never give the Directors the huge credit they deserve..
It is the directer that gives the words life, that gives the scene the depth and emotions.

Whomever the Director for Friday’s eppi .. BRAVO!

To add about –Directors —
Steven Spielberg; — Director –
His films include
Close Encounters of the Third Kind,
the Indiana Jones film series,
A.I. Artificial Intelligence.
Schindler’s List ,
Saving Private Ryan .
Jaws
E.T.
Jurassic Park

Spielberg ”wrote” only 5 (and directed)
A.I. Artificial Intelligence
Amblin
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Firelight
Poltergeist

Spellberg was foremost a Director..
So– when there is a great scene in a soap, give a huge applause to the director..
just mentioning, that..

But what’s a director to do, su0000, if he has no words to give life to?? 🙁

hi nancy..
Whomever the director was friday for the whole of Carlos’s death, well that director brought it home!!.. I was jaw dropped .. lol
Even if bad dialogue the director brought amazing life to the scene..
And Jeffrey/Carlos was absolutely riveting !!

Despite the mob orientation, if there was ever the possibility of bringing back the character of Lorenzo Alcazar and Ted King were not available to reprise the role, Mr. Parise would be a fine choice to take over the role. He has the dark, good looks and considerable range to pull off the requisite menace along with the softer aspects of a romantic. While I’m not a fan of TeCa’s Sabrina, he was very convincing in their scenes together as a man sincerely in love with her.

Best wishes to a very talented actor who can play anything.

I’m with everybody else…I want GH to create another character for him or for another soap to pick him up. He really was alot of fun to watch as Carlos. i will miss Carlos though. I will also be looking for whatever Jeffrey lands because whatever it is, it will be good.

I for one can never watch this show again. Carlos was THE most unique and interesting character since Todd Manning . JVP’s performances had me only watching the show thru Carlos’ eyes and only rooting about what would be best for Carlos. Carlos and Sabrina had the most beautiful love story that never really got told. What a shame . Adios GH 🙁

I’m with you, Mark–Sabrina only came alive with Carlos (as all of us would do–lol!

JP always had me fascinated every time he was on. He layered his performances and was always able to pull this through-line into everything he did.

I’ll miss seeing his powerful performances. Any number of actors could learn from him. Hope they did.

Best wishes in his future endeavors!

This means sobbing Sabrina returns and Micheal will be there for her-they will marry too-sigh!!!

More’s the pity!

I hear you, jimh…..that’s certainly the downside to Carlos FINALLY taking his last breath! Personally, I couldn’t stand this mangy miscreant from the first moment I saw him, and giving him more lives than some filthy alley cat only made things worse…..he was like the “Energizer Bunny,” he just kept on going and going….turning up over and over again most as surely as a bad penny! Hence whilst I’m thrilled to be free of this maniacal mook of a deviant, it’s tempered by the knowledge that Sabs shall soon be back to once again unnecessarily impose herself upon the good people of Port Charles. Talk about a missed opportunity to rid GH of one of the most pointless characters of all time!

Excellent actor.

Great stage presence.

I never liked Carlos ,but I will say Jeffrey did a fantastic job portraying him.
I wish him the best of luck what ever comes next.

From what I’ve seen of JVP’s paintings, he is an abstract artist, so I’ll reserve judgment. But as an actor, he reminds me of Miguel Pinero, and that entirely questionable and certainly dangerous male sexuality of the 70s. Carlos was a throwback that simultaneously reminded me of how great contemporary men are and what I am missing.

I’m going to miss him. Great actor and interesting character.

I hope Y&R scoops JVP and signs him to play Luca Santelli’s father. Oh could you imagine JVP and Eric Braeden’s scenes!

That’s a great idea. He just might make Luca interesting.

Thats what they did with Steve Burton, they linked him with main characters and he is LESS Dullan! Jeffrey would be great with Luca and Victor!

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

By

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
