Finola Hughes Has Extended Her Time Away From General Hospital!

Anna Devane will be off the Port Charles canvas for a bit longer than expected!  New today out of ABC Soaps In Depth has that Finola Hughes is taking some additional time off from her enduring role on General Hospital.

Finola last aired at the beginning of July and took a summer vacation from the soap. But word is from GH that Hughes has extended her time away, and actually will not return till later this fall.

In story, Anna was finally able to get some sort of closure after trying to get Julian (William deVry) to confess for his crimes.  Julian had murdered Carlos Rivera (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) and was responsible for the death of the love of Anna’s life, Duke Lavery (Ian Buchanan).   What will happen when Anna sees Carlos’ twin, Joe?

When Anna returns to Port Charles it will be intriguing to see just what crimes, suspects, and evil-doers are inhabiting the town, so we can get Anna on the case once again.

What do you think about Finola’s extended leave from GH? Comment below!

0ooh geez. hope she’s not messing with a facelift.. lol
I really have not noticed that she has left.
Anyways- it will be good to see her again when she gets back.

I know right. Some celebrities don’t know when to stop and they wind up looking like a mannequin.

I hadn’t even noticed, either. Too bad Sonny doesn’t take an extended leave (like ten years or so).

And take Carly with him!

Don’t tell me there is yet ANOTHER contract dispute! GIVE HER THE MONEY–LOL!

She is already signed long term.

Timmm, wish “signed long term” really meant something. You and I know that any actor can be let go by the suits–even with a longterm contract, so called.

I really haven’t watched, but would totally notice her not being on the show! She is my favorite.

It seems people just want to be away from GH. At least this way they can’t make Anna do things OOC

Too long to have a great actress off the canvas…hope she has a better storyline when she returns…maybe Carlos lookalike Joe will be attracted to Anna-that would be something!!!

and what if they did do the twin switch and he really is Carlos and only Anna suspects this?…will that psychiatrist guy-Andre?-think Anna is off her rocker-lol

Oh—PU-L-L-EEEZ! Let Carlos go–they took him too far. Let the new character remain “new.”

Good point, Jimh. That’s something TPTB would pull.

Jimh, from your words to the writer’s keyboards. Anna deserves so much better than what she’s been getting. A pairing of Finola and Jeffrey VP would be TOO great for words. But I’m gonna hope anyway.

Hi Nancy..
It’s not about Carlos or now Dr. Joe..
It is about the great extraordinary acting abilities of Jeffrey Vincent Parise that bring any character he plays to vivid life ..
I am looking forward to JVP’s Dr. Joe because Jeffrey will give it his best!
And— he doesn’t need a woman to hold him down!

((he is very good!)

It would be great if Anna is off finding out that Duke had actually staged his death (again) to save her. I love Anna and Duke. I won’t watch unless they bring Duke back. Such chemistry!!!!

As long as she IS coming back, then good for her.
I always wonder, though, why an actor takes an “extended time away.” Hope it’s not like Tyler’s time away.

Yeah, like I said earlier! Seems suspicious, indeed!

Please bring her back via a classic wsb tale. Why waste her rich double agent history by having her work as some thinly drawn special investigator.

All the more reason to get Robert Scorpio back to GH.

So far she’s no disappointing GH fans, and giving us her A game.

She had a lot of air time in the last few months. Perhaps she just wants a vacation, or perhaps she’s directing in or working/acting on another project. Off to England to see family? Whatever the reason…good for her! Looking forward to her return whenever that may be.

I bet Tristan wraps up that god awful character over at Y&R soon and Anna brings Robert back with her in the Fall.

Love to see him back at GH, and especially with Anna.

Omar

She is one of the few actors that always brings her A game even with poor writing, love her!!

GH is getting better lately but still kind of predictable..I am seeing Elizabeth and Hayden becoming sisters..Seems Jeff Webber had fling with Hayden’s mom and Hayden was their baby and Heather has been blackmailing her for years or there was a baby switch and Liz is actually not a Webber..Hayden is!! Predictable and not original..I hope I am wrong and that the writers surprise the heck out of me!!

Hopefully when Finola comes back, she will get a great storyline..No more tears, just a more kick butt and take no prisoner Anna with some new romance..Enough of the Duke funeral!!

nancy dillingham

Always “brings her game,” yes, even with meager material.

Anna needed the time off tbh. She was beginning to kiss Sonny’s behind.

When she comes back I hope she builds a friendship with Laura. It’s stupid that they aren’t friends!!!

Love Finola and looking forward to her return in due time.

Wouldn’t she and Genie be a power team?

I wonder if these times away from the show that many of the actors have been reported as having this year are due to financial more than personal concerns? FH is a huge asset to GH, a wonderful actress! She brings class and dignity to everything she does, so, of course, I’m anxious to see her back in PC.

nancy dillingham
nancy dillingham

Bring her back–like yesterday–:)

I’m hoping her leave has been extended so that she will finally be on Dancing with the Stars! She is an accomplished dancer and the timeline for her return seems to fit.

Shay
Shay

@Betty….Whilst I agree Finola would be an absolutely phenomenal addition to DWTS, it would seem that she would possess a beyond unfair competitive advantage over the other contestants. Not only does she have extensive dance experience, but she was a professional on both stage and screen for years, as her appearance in “Staying Alive” attests! I recently re-viewed that film and was amazed by Finola’s acting and dance performances (circa 1985) all over again!!! Let’s just say that unlike her many contemporaries on GH, the soap didn’t make her because she already was totally impressive in her own right, but her Anna Devane definitely made the soap….and still does!!!

JMER
JMER

I look forward to seeing her in the Fall. If I have my way, with good writing and a Duke return just around the corner. I doubt I’ll be watching much of GH while she’s gone but I do like some of the things the new writers are doing this year with the focus on the hospital and on vets like Anna, Laura and Tracy.

Hollywood Studios, Producers & Guilds Send Plan To Gov. Newsom and Gov. Cuomo For COVID-19 Production Restart Guidelines

On Monday, the two states with the most television and film production in the United States (California and New York) received a plan from many Hollywood studios, producers and the entertainment and production guilds of a plan and outline to be able to rejigger and restart production of your favorite shows and films.  This includes the soaps: General Hospital, The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful and Days of our Lives.

Via Deadline: In an effort to get the industry moving-forward again where jobs were lost or put on hold, and production were completely stalled out-of-the-blue, the guidelines submitted by “The Industry-Wide Labor-Management Safety Committee Task Force (the “Task Force”) is asking for consideration and adoption for the resumption of motion picture, television, and streaming productions in an environment that minimizes the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19,” says a report for Governors Gavin Newsom of California and Andrew Cuomo of New York.

You can read the details of the report here.  While there has been no word from the Governors and their offices if they have seen the report, bets are that several more steps will be needed before anyone would head and report back to a set yet.

GH’s Steve Burton and Maurice Benard Deliver “The Power Performance of the Week”

Last week, as General Hospital aired the final episodes they had in the can, prior to the coronavirus TV production shutdown, viewers of the series were left with a one-two punch of gut-wrenching performances from Daytime Emmy winners, Steve Burton (Jason) and Maurice Benard (Sonny)

Burton, also received great news last week, when he found out he was again Emmy-nominated in the Lead Actor in a Drama Series category, while Benard, told fans he did not submit himself in the competition this year, when they were wondering where his name was in the list of the finalists in the category.  However, Maurice won last year for the second time in his career, for Outstanding Lead Actor.

Now on last Tuesday and Wednesday’s episode of the ABC daytime drama series, Jason was trying his best to break it to Sonny that Sonny’s dad, Mike (Max Gail) is not going to get any better as he continues to decline from Alzheimer’s disease, and that Mike is waiting for Sonny to let him go.  Sonny is devastated sitting with Mike watching him being completely unresponsive.  He tell Mike he will be back to see him tomorrow, as he leaves Mike reaches out his hand slowly.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: GH Rebroadcasts 'Sonny with 3 Carlys' 51st Anniversary Episode

Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) has just told Jason that she believes the signs are all there that Mike is on his final decline and battle with Alzheimers. Mike is unresponsive, not eating. and slipping away quickly. She believes he wants to let go, but is holding on for Sonny’s sake, something that tears through Jason.  Knowing Jason was told something by Elizabeth, Sonny asks what it is.  That is when Jason tells Sonny he thinks Mike is waiting for Sonny to let him go.

An overcome Sonny tells Jason that he worries that Mike might still want to fight, but for what? He is a shell of himself and has no memories.  It is then that Burton as Jason, in a touching performance, tells Sonny what he’d want if he were in Mike’s place. Jason reflect that he wouldn’t want machines keeping him alive or his kids having to go through what Sonny is having to deal with right now   Jason goes on to say that even when Sonny put walls up between himself and Mike through the years, that Mike never stopped trying to break them down.

Once Jason leaves, with tears running down his cheeks, Sonny sits with Mike trying to come to terms with what he must do now.  Will Sonny let Mike die and spare his father any further misery … or will he try to prolong whatever time Mike has left?
