Heartbreaking news to report this Labor Day weekend.  Former star of The Young and the Restless, Victoria Mallory (Ex-Leslie Brooks) died yesterday at the age of 64 from pancreatic cancer.

Mallory, who appeared on The Young and the Restless from 1977 till1982, and returned for a visit in 1984, was the second actress to play the central role in the early days of the CBS soap opera replacing Janice Lynde.

Throughout her run, Victoria also an accomplished Broadway singer and performer,  often sang on Y&R along with the likes of John McCook (formerly Lance Prentiss of Y&R, now Eric Forrester on B&B).  And the character of Leslie Brooks was also romantically entangled with Brad Elliot played by Tom Hallick. Victoria later played the role of Dr.  Denise Foxworthy on Santa Barbara.

On The Great White Way, Mallory made her Broadway debut when Richard Rodgers chose her to star as Maria in the first revival of  West Side Story at Lincoln Center.  She also appeared i n Carnival, and originated the role of Young Heidi in the Harold Prince/Stephen Sondheim production of  Follies, as well as the starring in A Little Night Music.

In more recent years, Victoria Mallory continued to perform and teach professionals, adults and youngsters at The Voice Studio in New York City.  She leaves behind her husband Mark Lambert, and daughter Ramona Mallory Lambert, also an actress.

Watch the opening credits of The Young and the Restless circa 1977 with Victoria with top billing as the credits begin, and take a stroll down memory lane in her honor.  On-Air On-Soaps sends our condolences to Victoria’s family and friends.  Share your thoughts on the passing of Victoria Mallory below!

My goodness; such a beautiful woman and a fine, fine actress. I remember her on Y&R like it was yesterday. It’s hard to believe it’s been more than 30 years.

Pancreatic cancer is just awful; I’ve lost several friends and acquaintances to it. Usually it’s way too far along before you even know you have it.

Sad, sad news indeed.

I am heart broken over this news. I adored her as Leslie! Watching her with Jonas at The Allegro where he dyed her hair blonde and called her Priscilla, after she was hit with amnesia and began singing at the restaurant is a scene that has stayed with me for all these years. My sympathies to the family. RIP Victoria. So young. So beautiful. So talented…X

I am still so saddened by this news. She was such a talented and charming performer. I was in high school when I saw her on Broadway in “A Little Night Music” as the young wife Anne. In fact the musical also starred Pat Elliott, Renee Buchanan from OLTL. They had a duet on the song “Every Day A Little Death” I have listened to their recording countless times. Ms Mallory met her husband working on that musical and their daughter played the same role in the most recent Broadway revival. She had been touring the country a few years… Read more »

RIP. So sorry to hear this. I met her in the ’70’s. She,born Victoria Morales, and I discussed the value of un-Hispanising our names. She was proud of her Hispanic roots, but she realised that some casting people had limited vision. A lovely, kind, thoughtful, and talented woman.

I am very sorry . She was my absolutely favorite actress on YR back in those days. I will never forget the scene when she first met Brad. she was eating burger and fries and Brad suggested she leave off the fries. Maybe that could have been the first of a long line of real life issues YR was famous for back then.
Now, we have to listen and watch just about everything with no respect to what these things do to people in real life.
God Bless her family.

At first, it was difficult to imagine anyone else portraying Leslie Brooks, but Victoria stepped in and made everything right. She was beautiful, sweet, and above all talented. She made the role her own, and the fans loved her. This is so sad. She will always be remembered and loved by her fans.

Vicky and I were in several HS classes together, most memorably to me, Algebra and Col. Mitchell. He was exceptionally tough on her, and I believe now, it was because he knew she would have to be tough to continue in her chosen career path. She was a sweet and tender-hearted, very talented young lady. I moved away after our Junior year and the next time I saw her was on Y&R as Leslie Brooks. I was stunned and very proud of her! My heart goes out to her family! Gone WAY too soon!!

I too attended Baker High School although a couple of years behind Vicki. My first experience of seeing her perform was in the local theater production of The Sound of Music as Maria. She was beautiful, talented, and her passing saddens me a lot. A LOT

TONIGHT: 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards on CBS

Who will take home the gold at Sunday night’s 73rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards?  Well, from the looks of it .two heavy favorites going into it are Ted Lasso in the comedy categories, and The Crown in the dramatic categories, but as we have seen on previous Emmys there may be upsets afoot.

Other leading contenders through the night will include the series: The Mandalorian, WandaVision, The Handmaid’s Tale, Saturday Night Live, Lovecraft CountryThe Queen’s Gambit and Mare of Easttown.

Cedric the Entertainer will host the three-hour special on CBS beginning at 8 pm EST emanating from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.  Pandemic and all there will be a return to an opening number.

The broadcast’s executive producer, Ian Stewart, confirmed an opening number, when he previously told Deadline, the number “is going to be a lot of people participating, singing, rapping.  It’s hopefully going to be a very impactful start, a ton of fun.”

The Primetime Emmys will have nominees in attendance, with a more limited amount virtually, and those who have tickets can stay in the venue through the whole show, unlike the Grammys or Oscars were those nominated were ushered in and out.  Look for the Emmys to take place outside the theatre under a tent.

One Life to Live alum Renée  Elise Goldsberry (Ex-Evangeline) will be competing in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her role in Hamilton.  Another OLTL alum, Jonathan Groff (Ex-Henry), is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role in Hamilton, as well.

In the Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, Sterling K. Brown tries to win another Emmy for his role as Randall Pearson on This Is Us.   To view all the nominees, head on over to the TV Academy’s website.

This past June, CBS also aired the 48th annual Daytime Emmy Awards in a pre-packaged show for broadcast due to Covid-19 restrictions.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Sonny Remembers Carly Just as She Is Marrying Jason

After nine months of being “Mike”, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) had a major breakthrough as his memory is all coming back to him now (as the Celine Dion song says), and in the process the Tan-O has burned to the ground, signaling the the probable end to the Nixon Falls arc of the story.

As the story picked-up on Thursday, Nina’s (Cynthia Watros) plot to keep Sonny for herself and away from Carly majorly backfired on her.  Not only does Phyllis (Joyce Guy) now know that Nina lied about “Mike’s” identify the entire time, but Peter August (Wes Ramsey) is running wild and free heading back to Port Charles to claim his baby and Maxie (Kirsten Storms), after setting fire to the building.

Courtesy/ABC

Since “Mike” ran in to save Nina and got hit by a beam in the process, he is alone in the burning Tan-O enveloped by flames, but that triggers the beginning of his memory coming back.

Meanwhile, back in Port Charles, Jason (Steve Burton) and Carly (Laura Wright) are at their wedding, with the five family mob bosses present with a plot of their own and everyone wondering if Jarly will say “I do'”.    The two light a candle together for those loved ones no longer with them … ah, Sonny!

Back the burning Tan-O, Sonny is visited by the vision of the real Mike (Max Gail) who tells him it’s time for him to go home now.  A conflicted Sonny tells Mike he is very happy in Nixon Falls with Nina, but Mike tells him he needs to know his past in order to move forward.  When Sonny has flashes of his violent past it frightens him, and he says whatever family he has is better off without him in their lives.

Jax (Ingo Rademacher) tries to text Maxie while still in Nixon Falls with Nina to watch out for Peter, but she is attending and managing Carly and Sonny’s wedding, so she doesn’t pick up the phone!

Inside the Tan-O, Sonny sees a vision of woman, who when she turns and faces him is Carly. While Sonny is lying on the floor and is engulfed in flames and trapped, Mike tells Sonny he can die as “Mike” or live on as the man he truly is, Sonny.  It is then Sonny calls out “Carly!”

So, what did you think of the episode? Do you think Carly and Jason will get married? Will Sonny tells Nina he remembers? What will Nina’s next move be? Are you glad Sonny seems to have his memory back? The episode featured another strong performance by Maurice Benard.  Share your thoughts below.
