Fox Announces Primetime Soap ‘Monarch’ On Fall Schedule

Photo: Fox

You remember the tawk of the multi-generational musical drama about America’s first family of country music that was supposed to air in January?  Well, eventually due to Covid-19, the plans for its debut got scrapped from a two-night premiere set for Sunday, January 30 as a midseason replacement and kicked back to the fall.

Now, Fox has confirmed that Monarch is indeed on their fall schedule during its annual Upfront presentation on Monday.

The soapy series stars Oscar winner, Susan Sarandon as the Queen of Country Music Dottie Cantrall Roman, and her husband Albie Roman played by country singer, Trace Adkins.

In story, Dottie and Albie have created a country music dynasty. But even though the Roman name is synonymous with authenticity, the very foundation of their success is a lie. And when their reign as country royalty is put in jeopardy, heir to the crown Nicky Roman played by Anna Friel, will stop at nothing to protect her family’s legacy, while ensuring her own quest for stardom.

No word yet from Fox on what night of the week Monarch will land on the full fall schedule.  Stay tuned.

So, glad that Monarch will finally makes it debut? Does it interest you … or sound like another Nashville mixed with Dallas retread? Comment below.

This’ll last for as long as however many episodes they’ve produced.

Here’s a show you want to get excited about but the cancellation of over 2 dozen shows in the past week makes it difficult to get invested. Hope it does well I’m sure I’ll check it out and I hope Fox renews flagship 911 I know it’s all about dollars but if 911 isn’t renewed it doesn’t bode well for monarch

Just read that 911 is good for next season. Also the “Lone Star” spinoff.

At least Fox wasn’t as brutal as CW or CBS this time around. ABC, on the other horn, didn’t cancel hardly anything. Which unfortunately includes the “reality” crap they SHOULD cancel.

No. The CW rebooting Dark Shadows ok but another Nashville is out for me.

There is no such thing as a primetime soap–
They are simply continued series and have
no resemblance to an actual soap.
And- Susan Sarandon is hard to tolerate.
Anyways- I give the series 2 years 🙂

Looks good.

Well, it has three things going for it:

1. Susan Sarandon (5 Oscar nominations, 1 win)
2. Anna Friel (so great in NETFLIX series MARCELLA)
3. It’s not a reality show!

Yeah, it looks like a Nashville clone, but it’s got Susan Sarandon in it, so a Devil will have to give it a shot.

Sounds like a country music version of EMPIRE. BTW I loved NASHVILLE.. if the writing is as good, then it could be a hit.

I also liked Nashville. So many talented actors and singers. I remember Hayden Panetere from GL as a child and Jonathan Jackson from GL, Connie Britton, Charles Easton and more. One of my favorites, Chris Carmack is great on Greys Anatomy, but I miss hearing him sing and play guitar.

Hi Violet–I hope you are doing well 🙂
The thing is—- one needed to be a country music lover or tolerant to country music to tune into Nashville.
I am not a fan of country music iisshh as millions of others..
I hope you enjoy it/Monarch once it airs…
I’m out- no interest..
And–it ain’t no soap, nope- just an ongoing series as some other tv shows.. LOL
Take care be healthy and happy 🙂

Oh Violet, we’re in sync again. Chris Carmack was the best singer and performer on NASHVILLE. He was the most convincing to me and I felt so bad for Will and his bad luck in love. I always secretly hoped he and pal Gunnar would get together (it happens) but it wasn’t to be. I also liked Sam Palladio (Gunnar); saw him last year on the short-lived series REBEL. Wow, is he gorgeous, even more so with his British accent.

Sounds like Dallas meets Nashville. Even with a great cast, the writing will have to equal the acting and go beyond. Verdict is out but worth a good FOX try.
