GENERAL HOSPITAL: James Meets Nathan; Sonny Meets Ronnie

On General Hospital, it was finally the moment that James (Gary James Fuller) was going to meet his believed-to-be-dead dad, Nathan (Ryan Paevey); much to the chagrin of Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) and Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) in a key moment on the Friday, October 3 episode.

In addition, in a historic soap on-screen meet-up, Sonny Corinthos played by three-time Daytime Emmy winner, Maurice Benard, shared scenes with six-time Daytime Emmy winner and the iconic star of One Life to Live, Erika Slezak (, currently playing the role of Monica’s sister, Veronica “Ronnie” Bard during her guest arc on GH.

Here’s what went down. First, Britt tries to stop James from seeing her brother, Nathan, as clearly, Britt knows something about this version of Nathan, before us. (PROBABLY, THAT HE’S NOT REALLY NATHAN?!) Liesl (Kathleen Gati), who is already pissed off at her daughter for lying to her for over 2 years and faking her own death, says that James deserves to meet his father. Britt tries to stall asking if Maxie (Kirsten Storms) would be OK with this.

Britt suggests to Liesl, Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) and Felicia (Kristina Wagner) that James sees a therapist before he’s introduce to his father, who everyone thought died 7 years ago. After they all talk, they decide it’s best for James to wait to see his dad, but the kid was already on his way to Nathan’s hospital room.

Next, Nathan sees James at his door and says “Hello.” James shares soda with Nathan. At that moment, Liesl, Felicia and Spinelli come upon the scene as Britt hangs back looking concerned. Speaking in the hospital hallway, Spinelli tells Felicia that James seems thrilled to meet his father, which makes him jealous, but admits, “something feels off” with the entire situation.

Elsewhere, Sonny and Ronnie both end up at the GH memorial wall looking at the newly-placed addition of Monica Quartermaine. Ronnie introduces herself to Sonny. He learns she’s Monica’s sister. When Sonny offers his condolences, Ronnie explains they were not in contact for decades, until very recently. Sonny talks about Michael (Rory Gibson) being Monica’s grandson and the incredible bond they shared.

Soon, Ronnie is going in on Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) and Sonny agrees that Tracy is an entitled ‘snob.” Later, the two sit down at Bobbie’s where we learn it seems that Ronnie has been a waitress in a diner for many years.

Prior to Monica’s death, Ronnie shared that she has been working up the nerve to ask to meet her sister, but she ran out of time Sonny says that according to Michael, Monica went peacefully. Ronnie seemed very appreciative to Sonny for letting her know her sister didn’t suffer at the end.

The scenes were a treat for soap fans, and for Erika, and especially Erika’s husband, Brian Davies, who Slezak admitted in an interview with Access Hollywood, was a huge fan of Sonny’s!

At the end of the episode, Ronnie is in her room at the Metro Court hotel when her phone rings. While we don’t hear who is on the other end, it seems like she’s been invited to the reading of Monica’s will as she ends the episode with, “This should be interesting!”

I thought Sonny and Ronnie interacted felt a bit contrived. It was like Frank Valentini was thinking,” Wouldn’t it be wild if these two soap legends interacted on screen?” There was no good reason for these two to connect other than it being a publicity stunt. Then Sonny starts dominating the conversation by talking about his dad. But I enjoyed Erika Slezak, who is so good, she makes it look easy.

I’m hoping that Sonny realizes that something’s going on here and he has his associate “Brick” do a complete background check on this “Ronnie” person to see if she’s for real or not

My guess is NOT, and that either Martin Gray or Hallmark Drew (or both) is running a scam here.

And since the Q estate matters directly impact Jason, Michael, and Sonny’s grandchildren, then of course he’s going to look into that. Especially if the supposed will goes the way that it is rumored to be going.

Tracy admitted she knew that Monica’s sister existed – an retcon, but not too egregious. Alexis’ office called Ronnie to attend the will. They seem to be connecting the dots to make sure she’s legit.

We don’t need Stephen A Smith working his way into scenes with Erika Slezak. If anyone investigates her, it should be Ned.

Sorry, I do not know how to use the edit feature here. I must start proof-reading my comments before submitting them. I meant to write,” interacting,” not “interacted.” Well, since I came back, I should add that I still enjoyed the Sonny and Ronnie scenes. However, it just felt a little forced and unnecessary. I can only hope they don’t force a Ronnie and Carly scene but you know that is going to happen.

GENERAL HOSPITAL Preview: Serena Sets Her Sights on Michael; Jason’s Emotional Exit from the Mob

This week on all-new episodes of General Hospital, new and old motivations come into play with dangerous consequences. According to the just released GH video spoilers video for the week of August 3-7, a bailiff calls out, “All rise!”

Now it’s Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) vs. Curtis (Donnell Turner), as the surgeon is suing the owner of the Savoy for assault that ruined is ability to operate. At the end of the day, which of these men has enough evidence against the other? Portia (Brook Kerr) is by Isaiah’s side, while Jordan (Tanisha Harper) is with Curtis.

Next, Lucy (Lynn Herring) has a plan to get the controlling shares of Deception away from Michael (Rory Gibson). She wants her daughter, Serena (Kelly Kruger) to seduce Michael. She tells her, “Pick out your most seductive suit.” Soon, we see Serena in her bathing suit at the Metro Court face to face with Michael.

Later, there is a small baggie containing three blue pills. Nina (Cynthia Watros) ask Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), “What did you do?” We also see Michael asking the same thing of Jacinda (Paige Herschell). Leading into this week, viewers know that Willow doesn’t want the former escort anywhere near her children, Amelia and Wiley. Is this how she stops her, or is Jacinda up to old tricks and wants to frame Willow? Remember when Jacindsa drugged Drew (Cameron Mathison)? Stay tuned.

Finally, in the pick-up from last Friday’s cliffhanger, an emotional Jason (Steve Burton) continues to tell Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he cannot work for him anymore. Sonny ask, “So that’s it? You’re Out?” We fade to black.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 7
Josslyn is taken aback. Ava courts a new ally. Jordan and Anna catch up. Isaiah vents to Lucas and Elizabeth. Michael questions Jacinda.

General Hospital Fan Club Weekend brought out many of your favorites to the four day event; with the main cast gathering on Saturday, August 1. Fans near and far attended the weekend held this year at the Burbank Marriott Hotel. Whether it be the main cast event or the smaller more intimate events featuring two or three cast members a great time was had by all.

Vincent Pastore of ‘Sopranos’ Fame and ‘General Hospital’s’ Maximus Giambetti Dies at 80

Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.

The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.

As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.

PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL

Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)

According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”

Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.

Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.

In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.

Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
