‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

Well, that is nasty;
No—
Starr
Todd
McBain
No kidding. Why didn’t they include ME, KA and RH. I mean come on…they all were on GH were one full year before all the PP/ABC/Disney got all complicated. Can’t believe that they weren’t apart of the 50th anniversary photo shoot even though they were asked to leave back in February. Go figure!!
Probably because Roger Howarth is in Connecticut shooting One Life To Live.
LOL
The 3 are still with GH with contracts..
It was nasty not to include Todd, John and Starr ..
BOOOO BOOOOO/throw tomato !
Because they are not part of GH’s 50th history – they have only been on GH for a short period of time and have no reason to be included. Stop acting like a two year old because you can’t have your own way. How pathetic.
They are a part of OLTL and that is how it will remain – get over it
Can you believe these idiots expecting Todd, Starr and McBain to be in the pivotal cast photo? These 3 actor’s and character’s had nothing to do with the ratings bonanza of General Hospital over the years. I can’t believe the nerve of some people.
Those character’s are the face of OneLife. Pivotal player’s on that show! They DONOT belong in the cast photo of GH.
OMG! Really??? John/Todd/Starr have been on OLTL over 10yrs those are OL characters and NOT Gh characters errrrr they have been on verily a year and not even that if you include all the months john did even appear on GH no they are not part of GH esp the 50th!!!!!!
I agree — kept looking for them! They were definitely pivota in storyline to get them to 50!
I they didn’t include Todd,John,or Starr that is strange to me. They have been on
for a while and should have been in this cast picture.
That’s wonderful. They DONOT belong in the 50th anniversary of GH. They had nothing to do with the ratings bonanza of GH over the 50 years!!!!!
Hurray! I don’t have to see their face in the cast photo.
They probably were not around. Nothing to do with time there – the actor who plays Rafe is in the picture. You people need help – there’s no conspiracy!
Ha! that is the first thing I looked for as well!
well since the stars are still GH actors, they should have been there… doesn’t matter what name they’ll go by when they return, they are still part of GH now!
what is up with that, ABC?
the photo was taken about 2-3 weeks ago-well after the last day of filming for the OLTLer’s for now. Quit looking for things that aren’t there
Forget Todd, Starr, and John. How about Dante, Lulu, Jax, Brenda … all important characters who have been on the show for a long timE!
love it! Is it available for purchase?
Maybe they could make lamented copies of the photo to sell to fans as part of a fundraiser effort for amfar?
By the way Kim M.(ROBIN! ROBIN! ROBIN!) is in the photo!!! Doubt that was taken b4 she left, and i doubt ABC deliberately stuck in a cardboard figure of her. Would she do it if she had any sort of problem with the current regime? And i also doubt shes only back for just a photo shoot. Even if she isnt seen as much i feel she is still very much part of the show, and will return…full time or recuring. This is a soap, and not a show where everything is done in an hour. Soap viewing requires people with patients! Besides i see Sabrina more with someone like Milo or maybe Micheal now that the character of Starr will no longer be shining in PC. Meanwhile, i wonder if Rafe will turn out being related to Sabrina…Sabrinas cousin Juan Santiago did have an affair with Rafes mom Alison years ago, so there is always the possibility Juan could later turn out to be his daddy and not Caleb. Then Sabrina could be Rafes guardian.
Where is Jax, Brenda, Lulu, Dante, and Kevin?
Ys there should be another photo taken
I was looking for little Emma :(.
I agree no Emma be found
I wonder the same thing. This is just sooo wrong. Julie was there almost eight years and is excluded. Not good at all!!!!!!!!!Jax was there for years as well. All of these who are mentioned should have been included.
A lot were excluded from this cast picture!
they left out quite a few faces!
Why are some dressed up and some not? Y&R had a beautiful 40th cast photo.
this is the cast photo? how dissappointing, i thought they would all be dressed up for the photo? this looks like a picture of everyone put together after work. not a photo shoot of the stars together celebrating the 50th anniversary of a show.
agreed, and everyone currently on cast should be in it. Julie Berman is gone so I understand why she’d not in there. I really think they should have one in Nurses Ball garb.
Julie (Lulu) should have returned for the photo, just as Robin did. Jax, Brenda, Lucky, Dante, Keven and Steve burton should be in the cast photo as well.
THIS IS WRONG.
These people should understand that WE are invested in these people and their character’s. If nothing else, we are looking forward to that cast picture wth ALL our favorites. I don’t care if they HAVE TO PHOTO SHOP ALL OF THEM IN.
I agree! I mean no art director! It looks like some were working in the yard and others wear a tuxedo! It’s ridiculous!
Lynn Herring dressed up on the left side actually makes her look OUT of place!
I agree….think it would have been a more glamorous shot befitting the 50th anniversary!! It looks like they took it between taping or before they left for the day…..kind of disappointing!!
you can tell it was taken during taping for the nurse’s ball…..some and gowns and tux’s….some not!! not a very classy pic for the 50th!!:(
I agree. The Y&R 40th cast photo looks like they are going to dinner at the White House with most in suits and gowns. Don’t they have a wardrobe dept. that could have found something more appropriate for the 50th anniversary photo.
Is that Kimberly McCoullough I see standing by IB?
It looks like her, but I find the photo to be poor quality. Don’t know why it’s so hard to see.
Its kim…and she is listed.
Its her, and her name is mentioned!
Great shot glad that Kimberly is included missing is actress who plays kristina n Dominic
No Kelly Thiebaud? What’s up with that?
there’s many people who I feel should be in this but since they are just temporarily back I’ll excuse their absence (Jax, Brenda,Robert, Kevin the OLTL characters) but Where’s Dante, Lulu, Kristina??? They are all regular characters on the show 🙁
“Lulu,” Julie Berman is gone. She quit and will not be back on. But don’t understand about Dante and Kristina. 🙁
I wish they had been dressed up too like the Y&R pic. As for the absences, Julie and the OLTL folks had already taped their last scenes. I saw Dominic at an event the weekend after the photo was taken and he said he forgot about it since he wasn’t taping that day.
I was expecting a Bigger and classier photo that Y and R. I am more disappointed that Rachel was not included, it shows that Luke is still the front and center of the show. Audrey should have been honored, she was there for 45 yrs.
I have a feeling Lindsay Morgan is out…
Yeah major player missing..sad..no lulu or dante..what?? NO..Audrey Hardy..really bad ABC!!
Zowie!!!!! I love this picture right into my yearbook.. Thank u so much.. I’m real life journalis to kept track or keep it updates on GH!!!! this is incredible picture
No DZ or Kelly Monaco. JMB left but so did BB . I think all of them should of been in the picture
BB left but he is in the pic. hmmmm
It’s not fair that Kristen, Roger and Michael got excluded because of the stupid disput between ABC (All aBout Commission) got greedy and cancelled two soaps they KNOW they should NEVER have cancelled and now the common actor paid the price! It’s a small honor but sad at the same time that corporate greed made what is suppose to be a special occassion suck!!
Oh, ABC take a note from the #1 Daytime Soap network CBS when it comes to putting an anniversary together! The week leading up to Y&R 40th was absolutely wonderful. ABC and GH you are hitting it with the stories, but MISSING it with the history and characters!! Take a note from you competitors!!!!!!!! Oh also ABC, you don’t deserve to profit from Prospect Park!!!!!!!!
My god, people will complain about anything. Wonderful photo. They probably took it while as many cast members as possible were on set taping the Nurses Ball. Unfortunately, not everyone is going to be there at the same time. That’s why a few people are missing, and some are dressed up and some aren’t.
I agree Dan…no one seems pleased about anything GH does, and it makes me wonder why so many complainers even watch. Sometimes i think most of them would be happier if the show was cancelled.
My only complaints are usually with the conplainers, and if there is something i dont like i usually make harmless suggestions and dont say hardly anything negative because there is much more positive things happening on GH to keep me happy and satisfied, so on with the show!!!
Thank you!!! Let’s just be thankful that GH IS celebrating its 50th. As for those not in the picture? It is just a picture!!!!! Wouldn’t it be worse if all those mentioned weren’t even being invited back (like Rachel Ames)? The OLTL Three were probably legally enjoined from being so photographed, since at the time of the picture their status had not yet been legally determined. As for Kelly Thibaud? Probably taken while she was out with her broken leg. Everyone seems to be looking for political motivations to various appearances (or not) in the picture. They clearly took the picture with whomever was on the set that day.
Really…sometimes a picture is just a picture, and not a conspiracy.
I also do not get the CONSTANT complaining about GH. It is the best it has been in years, AND, it is still on the air. Can’t we be grateful for that, and for ALL THE LOVE Frank and Ron are putting into the 50th???? The previous regime would have ignored the 50th, and would have kept on pumping out shows about Sonny, Jason, and the Mob, and ONLY Sonny, Jason, and the Mob. We have Frank and Ron to THANK for the returns of Frisco, Laura, Scotty, Lucy, Kevin, Heather, Nicholas, Brenda, Jax, Noah Drake, Bobbi, Audrey, Rick, Alan, A.J., Faison, Robert, Duke, Helena and a few surprises not yet revealed (Robin? Lucky? Blackie? Leslie? Jeff?). We have much to celebrate and we owe Frank and Ron our gratitude for what they ARE giving us. One year ago this was even TOO MUCH to hope for.
As for myself, I CANNOT imagine a more lovely, faithful tribute to GH’s 50th. THANK YOU FRANK AND RON!!!!!!!!!
We are are talking about ABC, soaps… we should be happy that they are celebrating!
totally right dan, jim and tristan, enough with the complaining GH is great, i ‘m loving it everyday, and i’m so grateful its on and Celebrating this milestone. thank the universe for the team of FV and RC if not for them, GH would not be this good.
What about Tristan Rogers aka “Robert Scorpio”? I love what the “new” writing team and EP are doing with the show but why is Robert Scorpio always left out?
JEEZ! Some ppl commenting r just ridiculous..Y’all want some cheese w/ ur whine??? Quit complaining so freaking much and just enjoy.
Great pic (^_^)
I agree that Robert Scorpio was the best character he is so good now he is in a dumb coma, Maybe they will surprise us since Robin is in the photo.
I think this has been semi photo shopped. Front row: Marc Anthony Samuel and Tequan Richmond look like the same person…….
Where’s Rachel Ames?
That is a wonderful picture, where can I get this picture, please let me know
please send me a copy of my favorite show on tv for the last 35 years
i dont know what that means
Great photo!!!
Best Cast!!!
I see Robin, Please make her stay, Love love love Kimberly McCullough please bring back our scrubs.
The photo’s are always taken on a work day and everyone is invited to take part in the photo but if an actor doesn’t want to show up on his/her own time them that’s that. the actors who are dressed in street close are the ones that came on there own time so hats off to them for showing up. as for the OLTL people I’m sure it had to do with the lawsuit pending. It would had been nice if everyone was all dressed up but most likely they didn’t put that in the memo
No OneLifer’s in the photo.
Definately need a redo here. Too many left out! 🙁
*pivotal* sheesh
Where was Rachel Ames? She was brought back for the 50th?
I agree, there is missing characters, however, we have to realize that this is ABC they aren’t serious about Soaps.. I suppose it was asking too much to get Jason, Jacks, & Lucky to travel.
Whats abc got to do with or who isnt there…if they werent serious about GH they wouldnt hired FV or RC to save it after realizing how foolish they were to allow Brian Frons to convince them to cancel the other two. And i doubt we’d be seeing the nurses ball if they werent serious. Lucky is doing Nashville and Jax is in Hawaii with his family…these two might not have the time to fly in on what looks like a photo done in a moments notice. And it might have been too much work, lol, for Jason(steve burton) to do the photo shoot. Now im just pointing out all this in a friendly way as much as possible so i hope you dont take my reply the wrong way like some others might.
Dzz Dee – Steve Burton no longer qorks for GH. In fact, he works for Y&R now. GH isn’t going to promote his new soap. Ingo is doing DWTS and recently said in an interview that he can’t juggle both DWTS & GH the way Kelly did. It is too hard, he said. As for Jonathan, he said he couldn’t fit GH into his Nashville schedule. The actor himself said it. Please stop blaming the show until you have your facts straight. Ron and Frank are trying to give fans a 50th anniversary to remember. Let’s try to enjoybit without being critical of things out of GH’s control.
Exactly, You said , What I meant about those long ago key characters..another life & they moved on. ABC is still lacking in common sense! They could of easily back slide there decision to keep OLTL on ABC. As I am a fan of GH & OLTL.. But……… ABC has one soap.. I don’t think they are that serious!
People, get over it. ive been to parties and reunions where everyone didnt show up! There are dozens of reasons why? One reunion i attended we did a group photo: some dressed like they were from Dynasty and others dressed like they were from The Waltons. It was no big fuss…everyone was just grateful who were able to attend and it didnt stop the party because of some who couldnt commit: other committments, on vaction, illness or just didnt feel like it. Geez, sure a lot of unhappy people when there neednt be.
It’s just a photo, no big deal. Lots of the ‘regulars’ are missing. The fact that GH is still on the air is the important part. I’m just glad none of the oltl crowd is in the photo. My critique is the poor photo backdrop. Sean and Sonya appear to be beheaded bodies.
Thrilled to see Robin in the picture, there is still hope for her yet.
There’s a lot missing from this photograph and that’s the main reason I don’t watch this one-sided show anymore.
Why dont they bring Tristan Rogers back for the 50th and his daughter Robin get him out of the comma they can figue it out. All his fans want him back more then once every 4-5years it is ridiclous. Even if he is on another soap he could do it for the anniversary show.
waiting for my copy of this cast picture
Why wasn’t Tristan Rogers in this photo?. He was and is still an important character at GH.!!. Not the same without him, I can’t believe they put him in a coma and left it like that!!!! , Tristan Rogers made GH and I don’;t know why he isn’t: back on the set celebrating their 50th!!! He alway’s gets shafted, so not right!!! You need to bring him back or you will loose ratings again !!!!!
