‘General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars And Storytelling’ Primetime Special Announced
General Hospital is getting its own primetime special on ABC to celebrate its 60th anniversary milestone. The special entitled General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling is set to air on Thursday night, January 4th at (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on ABC, next day on Hulu. The GH special will follow The Golden Bachelor’s The Golden Wedding airing before it on the same night.
The television event will feature fan-favorite cast members from throughout the years as they pull back the curtain on six decades in Port Charles, including behind-the-scenes moments, bloopers, a special fan tribute and more exciting surprises.
Fan favorite cast members including: Maurice Benard, Jane Elliot, Genie Francis, Finola Hughes, Kelly Monaco, Laura Wright and more will be a part of the celebration.

In addition “Dancing with the Stars” winner and pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy, former GH stars Emma Samms, Rick Springfield and Amber Tamblyn plus ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith who also appears on GH as the recurring character of Brick.
The special is executive produced by Frank Valentini. Directing the primetime special is Ashley Gorman. Michelle Henry and Mary-Kelly Weir serve as co-executive producers. The special is produced by ABC.
General Hospital was created by husband-and-wife soap writers, Frank and Doris Hursley. Frank Valentini is the executive producer and showrunner. Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor are co-head writers.
The soap opera holds the record for the most Outstanding Daytime Drama award wins at the Daytime Emmy at 15. Might they take home their 16th tonight at the 50th annual Daytime Emmy Awards? Stay tuned.

I said months ago ABC should celebrate GH’s 60th Anniversary with a primetime special. I’m glad to see they’re finally doing so. Hopefully more cast members than those listed above will be featured in the special.

Shouldn’t this special have aired April 2023? This year is the 60th and what did gh do for it. Nothing. Even the nurses ball was horrible

SO very glad TPTB saw fit to give some love to GH with this milestone anniversary special. Better late than never. Really looking forward to watching it!
I’m looking forward to this special. I’ve watched GH for 45+ years so a look back is always a treat.
Could be interesting but they should have given it two hours. So many clips, flashback, memories to share. One hour is way too short (not to mention commercials throughout).
Can we be grateful for what we have? One hour is a lot better than none. Few clips exist prior to the switch to hour-length episodes in the late 70s. All actors appearing in flashbacks have to be paid a residual. Kudos to ABC for spending the money on this.
I’m not “grateful” for the show. I simply look forward to watching it and I stand by what I said; there are a lot more clips to show than would fit into an hour. I’m sure the network could have sprung for a two-hour special of a 60-year-old show. As for residuals, I don’t even know if that’s so in a flashback scene of a few minutes, and I’m not sure if it’s from a scene of an actor still currently on the show if they’d be paid. Even so, it would amount to nothing. Residuals that amount to something are for actors whose entire series continue to run not only in the U.S. but in other countries. Entire episodes; seasons. The remaining cast of FRIENDS must be earning millions off of residuals. A short flashback is not going to break the network.

Barbara is likely referring to the wall of honor on the GH lobby set (which is for deceased characters). Once Bobbie passes on the show she’ll definitely be added. Nikolas remains a “living” character.
And there’s also the fact that the “wall” is dedicated to characters associated with the hospital itself, so Bobbie would naturally belong there as a nurse for 40+ years, but Nikolas would not. Unless he somehow got in as a member of the hospital board, which I believe he might have been at some point, because of financial contributions the Cassadines made to the hospital.
This is amazing! I can’t remember there being a primetime special like this since their 35th anniversary special.
ABC & People did a primetime special for the 50th in 2013.

Congratulations to GH. I was a regular viewer from April 1, 1963 to 2005 and have so many fond memories of the founding days and the heydays during the 70s and 80s. I’ll have to tune in for a walk down memory lane. I hope they show clips from the early days.

I was confused as well! One possibility is that he was mentioning people that won tonight (Sonya for acting and N’Neka as a producer for best show). But it would have been really nice to honor JZ there.
After omitting the late Jackie Zeman from recent Emmy acceptance speeches, I am having second thoughts on continuing to even watch GH

GENERAL HOSPITAL Preview: Serena Sets Her Sights on Michael; Jason’s Emotional Exit from the Mob
This week on all-new episodes of General Hospital, new and old motivations come into play with dangerous consequences. According to the just released GH video spoilers video for the week of August 3-7, a bailiff calls out, “All rise!”
Now it’s Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) vs. Curtis (Donnell Turner), as the surgeon is suing the owner of the Savoy for assault that ruined is ability to operate. At the end of the day, which of these men has enough evidence against the other? Portia (Brook Kerr) is by Isaiah’s side, while Jordan (Tanisha Harper) is with Curtis.
Next, Lucy (Lynn Herring) has a plan to get the controlling shares of Deception away from Michael (Rory Gibson). She wants her daughter, Serena (Kelly Kruger) to seduce Michael. She tells her, “Pick out your most seductive suit.” Soon, we see Serena in her bathing suit at the Metro Court face to face with Michael.
Later, there is a small baggie containing three blue pills. Nina (Cynthia Watros) ask Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), “What did you do?” We also see Michael asking the same thing of Jacinda (Paige Herschell). Leading into this week, viewers know that Willow doesn’t want the former escort anywhere near her children, Amelia and Wiley. Is this how she stops her, or is Jacinda up to old tricks and wants to frame Willow? Remember when Jacindsa drugged Drew (Cameron Mathison)? Stay tuned.
Finally, in the pick-up from last Friday’s cliffhanger, an emotional Jason (Steve Burton) continues to tell Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he cannot work for him anymore. Sonny ask, “So that’s it? You’re Out?” We fade to black.

Josslyn is taken aback. Ava courts a new ally. Jordan and Anna catch up. Isaiah vents to Lucas and Elizabeth. Michael questions Jacinda.

Fans near and far attended the weekend held this year at the Burbank Marriott Hotel. Vincent Pastore of ‘Sopranos’ Fame and ‘General Hospital’s’ Maximus Giambetti Dies at 80
Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.
The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.
As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.
PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL
Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)
According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”
Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.
Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.
In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.
Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
