50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards: General Hospital Wins Drama Series, B&B’s Thorsten Kaye and Jacqueline MacInnes Wood Take Top Acting Honors
On Friday night at the 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on CBS and streaming on Paramount+, General Hospital took home the top prize as Outstanding Daytime Drama Series. Executive Producer, Frank Valentini accepted on behalf of the show. This win marked the 16th victory in this category for the ABC daytime drama series. GH already held the record for most Drama Series victories going into the night and now continued to add another trophy to its collection.
It was also a big night for the The Bold and the Beautiful in the acting categories, when both Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy) took home the gold for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Steffy Forrester, while her on-screen father, Thorsten Kaye (Ridge) won for the Outstanding Lead Actor.
The win for Wood marked her 3rd Lead Actress victory in her daytime career, for soap veteran Thorsten Kaye, this win was his first. Kaye was not in attendance at the ceremony, so B&B’s EP and head writer, Brad Bell accepted on his behalf.

All in all, GH took home the most Emmys for the night with 6.

What did you think of the winners of the 50th annual Daytime Emmy Awards? Let us know via the comment section below.
Jason Thompson and Melissa Claire Eagan were by far the ones who should have won best actor and actress this year. How in the world did they have the age range for the younger actor as Eden McCoy was years older than the other two she was running against.
Because, during the time of the submission date range, she fit into the credentials, so she belonged in that category. What irked me more was only three submissions. They should have just axed the category.
Actually, there were four submissions here with Victoria Grace (Wendy Shin), however Victoria withdrew her nomination from the Daytime Emmys. She received a nomation in the Outstanding Younger Performer in a Daytime Drama Series category but was mistakenly submitted in the category.
With that said, I don’t know the younger actor fromB&B as I don’t watch that show, but as cute and talented as Cary Christopher (Thomas DiMera) from Days of Our Lives is… he’s not on that much to warrant it.
Yet, if the Daytime Emmy’s are going to have a younger actor category (up to 18y/s), if the child actors who can only film so many hours a day/week well then, there’s a lot of younger actors at on GH (and other soaps).
On GH, I can think of a few of the Corinthos kids: Avery, Donna, and others… and then, there’s Elizabeth’s kids: Cameron, (Aiden who is barely on) and Jake. Why no love for the actor playing Jake? Then there is Finn’s daughter, Violet, Lulu & Valentine’s daughter, Charlotte (granted the role was recasted and then the OG returned). Also, you’ve got younger actors in Danny, Scout, so many more (and on the other soaps, too).
Victoria Grace (Wendy) wrote on Instagram several months ago: “I was honored to be nominated for a Daytime Emmy and to be recognized by the Academy. Unfortunately, there was a huge misunderstanding across the board regarding the rules for this year’s category. This is obviously a surprise and I am heartbroken, but in fairness to all, I‘ll be rescinding my nomination. I wish the best of luck to all the nominees. I will continue to work hard to earn another Daytime Emmy nomination next year!”
Basically, there was a mess in this category – so, a handful younger actors got screwed. With that said, I love that Eden McCoy (Jos) won.
The televised presentation last night with only 3 younger actors … looked like there was a problem there. It seemed unfortunate that it was a missed opportunity for some of the real young actors) on GH and other soaps to have been submitted.
Next year, I am hoping to see this category sorted out.
Where was Henry Samiri, Douglas, B&B. He’s amazing
That’s the category she fit into.. the age limit is 18 and younger. She was 18 at the timeof filming the scenes she used for her reels.
100% agree with you. I watch both Y&R and B&B and Jason and Melissa deserved to win. Thornston and Jacqueline are nowhere near as good as they are. I will never understand why Jacqueline has won 3 times. Her acting is average at best.
While I do not watch Bold and Beautiful often, I have watched this week with the Eric Forrester storyline. I can see Thorsten Kaye winning . He is a great actor. Regarding Frank Valentini, I think looked very tired and out of it. (He didn’t look drunk to me).. I was surprised that he only spotlighted Sonya and N’neka. Even though this was honoring achievement for 2022, I would have thought we would have acknowledged Jackie Zeman, Tyler Christopher and Billy Miller since they were a part of his cast and had passed this year. JMO,
He definitely did look tired; I’m pretty sure they were at the studio early to work and then prep for the Emmys, so it must have been a long week for them. As for who he did or didn’t mention, what he should have done was just say it was dedicated to those they’ve lost, because any omission would be called out. Although, both Billy Miller & Tyler Christopher were not active cast members, so that may explain their exclusion.
Yes he did look tired and I noticed that as well. Maybe he was under the weather and wasn’t really feeling well. Also when you get up in front of a bunch of people I know I forget some things I want to say he probably just forgot about Jackie
As always, Susan Lucci gave a wonderful and memorable speech.
As a Y&R fan I was very disappointed that the lead acting categories didn’t have a win.
Me too. They both gave awesome performances.
