GENERAL HOSPITAL: Dante and Charlotte Visit Comatose Lulu: Isn’t it Time to Wake Her Up Already?

By Michael Fairman

The Friday July 28th episode and recap of General Hospital featured Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Lulu’s daughter, Charlotte (Scarlett Fernandez), visiting her mom while she still remains in a coma.  However. Lulu has been moved back from a long term care facility to Port Charles.

In story, Dante takes Charlotte to visit Lulu at General Hospital.  An emotional Dante and Lulu sit with Lulu and fill her in on the latest happenings, but, of course, Lulu is unresponsive and hooked up to machines to breath for her.

Later, Dante gives Charlotte a minute alone with her mom, and that’s when Charlotte breaks down in tears telling Lulu how much she really misses her and needs her.  She goes on to say that both Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Laura (Genie Francis) take her out to do things, but it’s just not the same and that Lulu needs to wake up (YES! She does!).

Charlotte tells Dante in the hallway that she wants her mom to come home … to their old home. She says she looked into the house the other day and everything was covered in sheets. In her mind, she believes Lulu would want someone living there.

It would seem to be a good sign that Lulu was part of the story on the episode, and that she is now in care at GH.  The question becomes, is the ABC daytime drama series, ready to wake the character up, so it would cause conflict for Sam and Dante’s romance?

If Lulu comes out of her coma, who do you hope plays the part? Emme Rylan, Julie Berman or a new actress? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

First of all, it’s great to see the real Charlotte back. The recast was absolutely horrible, and I hate to say that about child actors, but there’s a reason she pretty much vanished after two or three episodes.

This is the first time we even were allowed to see the place where comatose Lulu is currently residing, so that to me is a sign that yes, she is about to wake up. Now having said that, I can’t imagine she will actually open her eyes until her mother Laura is back from “summer vacation”.

Seeing a return of the original Lulu, Julie Berman would be a Devil’s preference. If it’s Emme Rylan I’m OK with it. After the most recent run of recasts at GH, I’d really hope there’s not a Lulu 3.0

In either case, should there ever be a wedding for Sam & Dante, it’s going to be “crashed” by either Lulu or Jason. Or maybe both. You can bet your soul on that!

Please not Jason! Not a fan of that character at all! I liked Billy Miller in the role but not Steve Burton. I actually don’t mind him as Harris on Days but still seems a bit one note to me.

Steve Burton is the only “real” Jason!

You are entitled to your opinion. However, I do not like Steve Burton as Jason and never have.

Yes. Bring back Steve Burton as Jason. I have always wanted a guy friend like Jason. Much love.

Please.
Brains Jason back to general hospitals.
And Lulu 2.
A Nathan.
Nathan and maxi back together.

I need Jason back and no one can play lulu but lulu

I’m not a Lulu fan, maybe someone new would picque my interest. I’m not a fan of Sam and Dante either so I’m ready for a new scenario. You know Charlotte will pull her mom and Dante together. Wonder why Nina has ” dumped” Charlotte. She was her biggest champion when Nina was with “Papa”.
.

Just please get rid of Nina. Nina cannot act, she is unattractive, she is nosey, will not take responsibility of her wrongs, which are many, she feels she should get what she wants, and she is a big time LIER. She does not deserve to have a relationship with Willow or her grandchildren. Nina deserves to be driven out of Port Charles forever. Off of the show of General Hospital.

Emme or a new actress for me. I like Julie Berman but not as Lulu. Her friendship with Maxie didn’t feel as authentic and I could not have bought her Lulu as a mother.

Agree 100%

Let it be the original so that Emme Rylan can come back to the y n r where she can take over as Abby!!;
Current Abby just needs to go. Period. Nice girl but was never Abby. A Abbott or Newman cousin maybe but not Victor and Ashley s daughter.

Julie Berman

Dante and Lulu belong together and those skids need their Mom

Julie played a badass Lulu, which I really liked. I didn’t like the reinterpretation of Lulu when Emme played her.

Emme Rylan

I agree!

Julie Berman would be ideal or Emme Rylan. At least it wouldn’t be yet another new recast as there are several most recently. Otherwise keep the character in a coma.

So great to see the original Charlotte.
Let’s keep it this way, GH!

What do we think of charlotte and Jake? What a surprise. I got scared when Jake stayed back, after everyone left for the game. With Esme there, I was afraid he had eyes for her.

Honestly, I am just happy that Scarlett Fernandez has returned. I hope Charlotte is featured more.

She has always brought good fun in her scenes and will always be the best Charlotte. A Bree Williamson return would be great too but recall her character was killed off camera (?)

Emme needs 2 play her there’s been way 2 many recasts already, let’s bring back a familiar face. Sam & Dante DNT seem good 2gether anyways & technically Dante is still married 2 lulu sooooooo, come on writers let’s do this, have lulu come back have Gladys & Nina in prison &. Sonny & Carly back 2gether, keep drew way away.

Hallelujah to ALL of this!!!

I think that Lulu& Dante got a divorce.

I agree to all this.

Would love to see Julie Berman back!

I want Emme back, I loved her.

Welcome back OG Charlotte!

The scene was a setup for Maxie to move into Lulu’s house. That way, they get to reuse the set. Speaking of reused sets, the Chechnya House was Carly’s old home with recognizable center stairs.

As for Lulu returning, there has to be a long term story arc as the character wasn’t really driving story the last few years she was on.

Julie Berman would be outstanding or someone new. As nice as Emme is, her portrayal of Lulu wasn’t very dynamic.

I’m so happy to see Scarlett Fernandez back as Charlotte. I would love to see Lulu back. Julie Berman would be ideal, but I highly doubt she would return because I think she’s moved on, so then Emme Rylan should come back. I agree with the other posts. We’ve already seen recasts of Molly and Kristina, so we don’t need a third Lulu. Emme Rylan was fired and upset about it, so it’s very possible that she would be willing to come back.

Emme Rylan

Would love to see her wake up and Emme Rylan playing the part of Lulu.

I want Julie Berman, the original Lulu to come back, she is the best. Not crazy about Emme Ryan playing the part, never have been.

New actress, loved the first one but not the second. They mention one from all my children would be perfect. New blood

Who’s the one from All My Children?

Emme Rylan, please!

I would LOVE to see Emme back as Lulu! No offense to Julie, but I wasn’t watching when she was on, so Emme IS Lulu to me. And I miss her.

If Julie Berman can’t come back, I would love to see Stephanie Gatschet return to daytime and take over as Lulu. I never liked Emme Rylan in the role, she was much better as Abby on Y&R.

Either one, but please not another new one.

Bring back Julie Berman, both her and Dominik Zamprogna had such chemistry together. Julie played Lulu Spencer so well. She was bad ass, like a true Spencer would be.

I can hear Charlotte with all her arguments to Dante etc, why they need to reopen the house so it will be ready for LuLu when she wakes up, knowing her family is there waiting for her, etc, etc.Dante and LuLu were divorced and she had just accepted that school teacher’s ring when he got blown up. This is really going to mess with Dante and Sam’s relationship.

Is Charlotte here to stay? What is the mystery surrounding Martin and Valentin? Good or bad? Is Valentin responsible for burning Anna’s house? Why?
Aside—Ned said, “Gumpa”—Writers: there is no such word in the Italian vocabulary. This is an Americanized dialect word which is very offensive. Cut it out!! The correct word is, “compare” or “padrino “ which both mean, “Godfather”…

I want lulu to wake up. I want Sam far away from Dante. Hopefully when lulu wakes up he will realize like lulu did that he is still in love with lulu. Of course he will fight it but in the end I hope lante get back together. Also I would really love with everything going on with Valentin that something reveals that Dante is Charlotte biological dad with Lulu. It wouldn’t change Valentin/Charlotte love for each other but would give Lante 2 biological children together. Plus give the Valentin actor a great storyline

How nice for Maxi and her two kids to live in Lulu’s house. What did they do with baby, give her away?

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
