If you’re still reeling from yesterday’s General Hospital, just wait until today’s Friday, July 3 episode and the second of a three-part appearance by Last Week Tonight host, John Oliver in his role as the head of the WSB named “Z.”

Oliver made a grand and delicious soapy entrance when after massive gunfire broke out between the WSB, Cullum (Andrew Hawkes), Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and Cassius (Ryan Paevey), he lands in a helicopter no less with two armed guards and surveys the situation, killing one man, walking over a dead Cullum ,and seemingly going to assist a wounded Josslyn, but is he?

The casting of Oliver as the much-talked about character of “Z” was all about perfect timing, once General Hospital’s Emmy Award-winning executive producer, Frank Valentini, heard of Oliver’s desire to appear on a soap after catching ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith in his recurring role as Brick.

Z HAS LANDED

It was back on the March 8 episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver that the comic and host did a hilarious send-up of letting the soap world know he would be up for an appearance with a few demands, some of which included familiar soap tropes.

Valentini spoke with TV Insider on how this all came together once he heard about Oliver’s desire to be on a soap. “My reaction was, ‘Let’s go for it,’The funny thing is, I always watch his show but I was a little behind, so I didn’t see that episode (in March) and a lot of people from my staff sent me the link,” explained Frank. “When I watched it, I said, ‘Oh, we gotta go for this,’ and everybody was very excited. The timing worked out perfectly because we needed somebody to be Z, the head of the WSB.”

In fact, once they determined Oliver would play Z, he wanted a major introduction for the character. “Well, when the writers wrote Z’s entrance, they wrote it that he came in a big black town car. And I said, ‘No, no, no,’ and they said, ‘Why? What’s wrong with that?’ And I said, ‘There’s nothing wrong with that, but we’re going to take it up a notch because it’s John Oliver. We’re going to have Z enter in a helicopter.’ So, he made his entrance in a helicopter.”

According to Valentini, Oliver was all-in during his time on GH,  “He was very curious about who was who and who did what. On day one, he only had one line. The next day, he had 20 pages, and he was amazing. He remembered every line, did a great job, and it was a lot of fun to have him on the set.”

JOSSLYN’S INTERACTION WITH Z

In a preview of what’s to come now that Z has touched down on Spoon Island, Valentini teased, “He tries to get information out of Josslyn, and we see how committed and tough she is and what a good WSB agent she is. She makes a deal with him to give him what he wants, and she gets something she wants, which is very personal.”

Then, Valentini revealed, “Z is keeping a huge secret that affects a lot of people in the town. And then he interacts with another character, who’s already in a couple, and openly flirts with her.” In addition, look for Z to get slapped, as the EP explained that was one of John’s short list of demands was to get a patented soap slap!

MORE GUEST STARS TO COME

In even more juicy news, Frank shared that there is yet another special guest star coming to GH, “We’re having another special guest who’s a big fan of the show at the end of the year.” Who could it be? Stay tuned.

Watch John Oliver’s General Hospital teaser video below, where he tells a tale of wanting to have soap twin and more.

John Oliver’s had three wishes. To be given a goofy name, to shoot somebody and to be given the classic soap opera slap. He’s already been granted the first 2 wishes. I’m afraid the slap is going to come from Carly and most likely she will be the woman with whom he flirts because, well, Carly. She is the Song of the Sirens all rolled up into one obnoxious package. No mortal man can resist her- not even the formidable Z.

Knowing how Carly reacts to things, she’s probably going to slap him when she finds out that Joss got shot. Not that it was his fault, of course,. But an angry mom has gotta blame somebody, and Cullum is no longer available. (For which my dragons are very happy, of course)

Or there’s also the possible that Z tells Carly that Val is going to the Indonesian black site, where he can be Jason’s cellmater and she will never see either one of them again, which would definitely be worthy of a slap.

We know, of course that Jason is coming home in another week or so, but Z might not yet be aware of the facts regarding the incident on the docks when he talks to Carly, so he might still assume Jason is guilty, regardless of the fact that Cullum was a piece of dragonshit (now literally so)

Previews feature Carly asking Z in her usual angry voice,” Are you trying to hit on me?” So I ask Frank, “Are you trying to torture me?”

Frank does incredible things with a low budget, he has to be the best EP of all time.

I am in awe of what they pull off on General Hospital!!! Head and shoulders above every other daytime soap, and quite frankly, not sure why ABC can’t pop in an evening episode every once in a while. I know the show does great on Hulu. Frank Valentini truly impresses me, as do the people who work for him…the writers, directors, actors, etc. The show rarely disappoints. And the introduction of John Oliver onto the show….brilliant. Hopefully once this arc concludes, they can encourage Z to return from time to time. I really love GH.

I loved yesterday so much

Thank you for sending him off to never never land. I know it’s just a show but I cheered when the s.o.b.got shot.

‘General Hospital’s’ Exiting Andrew Hawkes Shares ‘Thank You From the Bottom of My Heart’ to Fans After Cullum’s Death

Andrew Hawkes went out with a bang, literally, when on the Thursday, July 2 episode of General Hospital, his character of WSB Director Ross Cullum’s reign of terror finally came to an end.

What was supposed to be only a short term role, turned out to be a six-month run for Hawkes, who became extremely popular with the fans of the ABC daytime drama series, even though on-screen Cullum perpetrated some of the most nefarious crimes and activities ever seen on the soaps.

Chief among those crimes were: stabbing Marco Rios (Adrian Anchondo) to death multiple times over, attempting to kill Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) on the pier with a mysterious baton he pulled out of his pocket, lying to Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) for years and tainting her medication with poison, where we come to find out she doesn’t even really have Huntington’s disease, shooing Cassius Faison (Ryan Paevey) and so much more.

ANDREW HAWKES PERSONAL MESSAGE

In the end, Agent Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) shot Cullum to his death during an epic shootout, marking the end of the line for Hawkes’ memorable turn on GH. As we head into the 4th of July weekend, Andrew took a moment to address all the fans for their comments and support and how much it it has meant to him with a video he posted on his Instagram.

Hawkes began, “I’ve received so many beautiful, incredible messages of support. I am so incredibly moved that you would take time out of your day to just say, ‘Hey, good job,’ or put a fire emoji (in the comment thread), or just even take a look at something I may have posted. I like to be reminded of the fact that I think that kindness is a superpower and it’s a superpower that we all have access to.”

“You guys have just treated me with so much kindness and I appreciate it so much and I promise you, I will never take it for granted,” a very touched Hawkes explained. “I read all of your messages. I can’t respond to all of them because I have two kids and a wife and my wife would divorce me. probably. So, I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. You’ve really picked me up and dusted me off and I appreciate it so much.”

REFLECTIONS OF TIME ON GH

Previously, Andrew told Soap Opera Digest how he felt once he wrapped, “It took me a few days to kind of recover and get perspective on what this whole experience meant to me. It’s been one of the greatest experiences of my career. It’s one of the things I’m most proud of and have had the most joy in doing.”

What did you think of Andrew’s heartfelt message of thanking all of you for your support through his run. Will you miss Ross Cullum? Hope GH might cast him in another role down the line? Let us know via the comment section.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Z Reveals Cassius is Dead, Josslyn Strikes a Deal for the Release of Jason and Valentin

Even John Oliver (Z) is impressed with WSB Agent Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy)! In the pick-up of the epic shootout aftermath, the Friday, July 3 episode of General Hospital, opened with Josslyn in her hospital room recovering from surgery from her gun shot wounds with WSB head, Z, by her bedside.

Proving she is a force to be reckoned with, Z wanted the full rundown of what transpired on the docks and proceeding it. Josslyn was able to give a full debriefing on the horrendous crimes perpetrated by Cullum, Sidwell, and Cassius. However, she also explains how Cassius saved her life. Z explained to Josslyn that: Cassius is dead (is he really though?), Sidwell was arrested, and as she knows since she shot the guy, Cullum is no longer on this earth.

Josslyn knew if the public learned that Cullum was a double agent and had deceived the agency, that it would be a very bad look for the WSB. Z wants her to keep her mouth shut, so she comes up with a plan. She will pin the blame on Cassius and claim Cullum died a hero. In return, Josslyn tells Z, “I want a full release and all charges dropped for Valentin Cassadine and Jason Morgan.” The two shook on the deal.

Later, Z is at WSB Port Charles headquarters going through Brennan’s desk and looking for files when Carly (Laura Wright) walks in to confront him. She wants her daughter out of the WSB.

LULU LEARNS THE TRUTH ABOUT “NATHAN”

Dante (Alexa Havins), Lulu (Alexa Havins) and Rocco (Finn Carr) are now back in Port Charles after learning Cullum was shot and killed. Rocco learns Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) was arrested and is in the PCPD jail, thank to his dad. Dante explains he did it to keep Britt safe. Rocco is furious with his parents.

Lulu gets an earful when she learns from Dante that “Nathan” was actually an imposter. He was Nathan’s twin brother, Cassius. Lulu is shook to her core, that she was once in a relationship and had developed feelings for her best friend’s husband come back from the dead, only he wasn’t. She realizes Nathan would have never hurt Maxie for her.

Rocco tells Lulu who is acting off, about his plans to visit Britt while she is being held at the PCPD. In the meantime, Britt is having it out with mutter at her jail cell over her choices and decisions that kept Liesl (Kathleen Gati) in the dark and so many others.

ROCCO VS. DANNY

After being interrogated at the PCPD by a returning Agent Vaughn (Bryce Durfee), Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) goes home to ask Lulu for help with Valentin, while Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) sees Rocco sneaking out of the house. Rocco explains to Danny he has to go see Britt, and how he can’t abandon her.

Danny snipes back, “Of course not. Not after everything she’s done for you. Including lying about my dad shooting Cullum when you’re the one who pulled the trigger.” Rocco is stopped dead in his tracks. How will he respond?

So, do you think Cassius Faison is truly dead? Is this the end of the road for Ryan Paevey’s latest return to the soap? What did you think of John Oliver as Z and the deal Josslyn struck to free Jason and Valentin? Weigh-in via the comment section. But first check out the key scenes between John Oliver and Eden McCoy.

Bryce Durfee Makes a Return to ‘General Hospital’

General Hospital pulled off yet another surprise in this drama and action-filled week of episodes when on Friday, July 3, none other than WSB Agent Vaughn returned in the form of Bryce Durfee!

The last time viewers saw Vaughn was back in November of 2025 when he was dragged away at the orders from WSB Port Charles Bureau Chief, Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna).

Previously, Bryce first showed up on the ABC daytime drama series as Agent Vaughan back on March 7, 2025. In the story, Vaughn was brought in by Brennan as Josslyn’s (Eden McCoy) WSB handler. However, one thing led to another, and Vaughn and Josslyn ended up in a steamy affair which is against the rules to be in any form of a relationship with another agent.

Try as they might to keep their hands off each other, and to stay away from each other, they would find covert ways to spend some “sexy time” together, until Brennan found out and that’s how agent Vaughn was literally dragged off the canvas!

WHO DID VAUGHN COME TO SEE?

It’s been eight months since we last saw Agent Vaughn who shows up out of nowhere at the PCPD to see Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) who is behind bars. He wants Britt to cooperate with the WSB because they know how much of a hand she had in the cold fusion prototype and the final project of her father, Cesar Faison.

Additionally, Vaughn met up with Molly (Kristen Vaganos), Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) and Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) to discuss the fate and whereabouts of Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart).

Now the big question looms, will Vaughn cross paths with and go see Josslyn who is recovering in the hospital from gun shot wounds, or just slink out of town? According to GH, as told to Soap Opera Digest, Bryce Durfee is back just for two episodes.

So were you glad to see Agent Vaughn back on the canvas? Do you hope Vaughn and Josslyn will reconnect even for a conversation? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
