General Hospital
GENERAL HOSPITAL: "I'm Your Bastard Uncle, Valentin Cassadine!"

Courtesy/ABC
Monday’s episode of General Hospital revealed to those held hostage on Cassadine Island that “Theo” is actually the devious Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart).
As Nikolas (Nick Stabile), Ava (Maura West), Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), Lulu (Emme Rylan), Laura (Genie Francis), and Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) are all together in the main room, Jason (Billy Miller) and Sam (Kelly Monaco) are forced into another room with Jason handcuffed to a chair. Everyone now is aware that they are in imminent danger and with someone who is a major threat. After “Theo” utters some words in Greek, Nikolas translates and informs the others that “Theo’s” henchmen have orders to shoot anyone that moves except for him!
Jason tells Sam that he remembers being on Cassadine Island before, and there must be a reason that he singled out Jason to handcuff other than “Theo’s” explanation of wrong place at the wrong time. Did “Theo” know Jason from when he was on the island with Helena?
Later in front of those in the main room, “Theo” rolls up his sleeve, and he shows the tattoo on his arm of the Cassadine Crest. Nikolas is beginning to figure out just who the guy is, but not before “Theo” tries to get everyone to believe that he is in cahoots with Nikolas. Laura thinks the guy was the person behind sending her a photo of the Ice Princess. After Lulu says, “Who is he?” Nikolas answers: “He’s my grandfather’s bastard son. Mikkos dishoned him years ago and no one ever knew what became of him.” A gloating “Theo” confirms what Nikolas said with: “That’s right. I’m your bastard Uncle, Valentin Cassadine!” The hostages are stunned.
Watch the final moments from Monday’s GH after the jump. Then let us know, what are your initial impressions of James Patrick Stuart as Valentin? What do you think will be Valentin’s plan for Nikolas, Laura, Jason, and the others? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
finally… a real BAD guy… “i’ll get you my pretty!”… lol… ~
Well, if he is going for the 70’s greasy porn star look, he certainly achieved it. I don’t get it.
And can you BELIEVE it? What we’ve been asking for? Today–Wed–Carlos’ brother (or twin–or whomever) comes to the door of the Quartermaines’ home and is greeted by who else–Sabrina? I almost fell down–so they are “saving” Parisi after all–bringing a really good actor back as another character. I, along with others, posted our desire to have the great actor back–and TPTB “heard” us? Wow! I’m speechless. They’ve done it before, but I didn’t think they’d listen to the “lowly” fans’ wishes–LOL!
Too bad they didn’t cast Parisi as Valentin Cassadine–he would have been GREAT–he can act, has passion, has stage presence–and, most importantly, the viewers can relate (and even empathize?????) with him. Well butter my biscuits, I’m still laughing–and a bit incredulous. Too good to be true, isn’t it??
So, will our GH Gangsta Super Hero Sonny come to their rescue!!!-lol
of course Sonny will come to the rescue. It wouldn’t be GH if he didn’t, unfortunately.
Sad but So-nny True!
No big surprise. As soon as James was introduced as Theo, a new cast member, I posted saying he was Valentin.
I, also, posted he was probably Nathan’s father. But, only because he is the worst of the worst Cassadines.
Liesl’s words are still ringing in my head. LOL.
This entire scenario is soooo reminiscent of a botched High School play. Really? I know, it’s soapy. Exactly what it is supposed to be and do. What nonsense is going down on that devil’s island? Jason will save everyone….or Sonny. LOL.
And, Jimmy? Sonny will be the everlasting hero from now on. He is on the road to salvation, don’t you know????
We need to dispel the bad boy image from our heads. The PTB are fast at work doing just that.
The reason for Olivia’s tirade against Julian was also used to make Sonny look the hero; the perfect family man and friend. Gag!!
Still a chance he is Nate’s poppa, and if he stays he probably has other blocks of wood(like Nate) somewhere-lol
Cee, I would think that Theo would be too young to play James’s father? As for Sonny, imagine if you lived in Port Charles, you would either loath him and his kids or kiss his ring. There is no middle ground. Middle ground people tend to be dismissed at times as being boring but a Middle ground personality tends to give you a chance. If I lived in PC I would go to the “Perks” coffee house, beat up Aaron, he is future trouble, whisk Kristina off to one of Sonny’s private islands, make love to her and she would forget she ever met Parker! Whoa! Sonny would find out and kill me and blame it on A.J.!
In addition to my above quote, I must say that it was actually Shay who first suggested Valentin was the worst Cassadine to whom Liesl was referring. Ergo, Nathan’s sire.
I remember Shay saying that other than Mikko ( who is dead) , it must be Valentin.
Nonetheless, I was sure that the mysterious ‘Theo’ could not be anyone else other than Valentin. Too many coincidences……The Greek island, Nik and Maura ending up there; The Magnificent Duo ( tracking/sniffing hounds extraordinaire) , Jason and Sam followed by half of PC etc.
I know, simple deduction. LOL.
@Timmm.
Hey, Timmmy.
Well, I think that if Julian can be Sam’s father; if Phyllis (Y&R) can be Daniel’s mother; if Hope can be Claire’s grandmother (DOOL), Valentin can be Nathan’s father….more years separating them than the people I mentioned. Yes?
As far as Aaron? Well, I was so excited, Timmm, when I heard he was joining the cast….I always root for any Italian, LOL.
But, boy, was I disillusioned!!!! I said this to you before. There’s something icky about him….scuzzy, oily personality ( I do not mean his person). He is just too sweet; too nice.
So, I agree. He is trouble.
Jim, did you see that fight between Sonny and Julian? Sonny is a wimp! Spencer could take him!
So could Roxy The Lizard-lol
Did you know, my Timmmy, that ‘Sonny’ was Al Capone’s moniker? I do not see the link. HaHa!!
The typical representation seen in Sonny is a mafioso. However, one needs to be authentically siciliano or calabrese. Poor Sonny looks so misplaced.
Also, Sonny was sporting the typical ‘cosa nostra’ pinky ring. Is this something new? I don’t think I have ever noticed it before. Did he always wear it?
All he needs is a cigar and a skinny mustache that curls at the ends ( I think: French style?).
They are both wimps. Remember Julian overpowered Alexis….as he knew he would.
Stupid men, both of them. Muscle does not a man make. Using force only proves their cowardice.
I know I bore many of you with my quotes….but, here’s another….can’t resist. I think I have known Shakespeare in another life. I am madly ‘in love’ with him….
“Cowards die many times before their deaths;
The Valiant never taste death but once”. JULIUS CAESAR.
A little anticlimactic since the rumor that he is Valentin has been around for weeks.
I can only hope that J&S will hang up their bloomers and do right by the devil incarnate, Valentin…….
J&S always fall short on delivering suspenseful drama– but good at creating a mess .
Anyway, I like the 10 minutes that have seen of Valentin, so– so far so good .
((and PLEASE let him kill Sam))
I have to take credit, I think I was the only one who predicted all these people would end up in the island (maybe not but I didn’t read any other post with that thought). So, yay me! Ahem. Haven’t seen today’s episode yet.
Yes, you did. And, I posed it, as soon as Laura and company decided to cross the Atlantic. I just couldn’t remember who said it, at the time.
Thanks…I actually think the island could use a few more hostages (not sure if you were a viewer when Jerry Jax was introduced years ago) but I guess budget cuts slice everything. I’m still trying to remember Laura’s five hundred instructional guide
Ahhhhh!!!! Instructional word guide on how to make the grand escape! Ayiyi…
The title of the article…BEYOND HILARIOUS…LOL!!!!!
Enjoying the twists & turns of Miklos bastard. There are more nuts in this family.. In my heart hopefully Luke will rescue them! Hopefully my Sam & Jas5 will be safe. Does he know she’s Natashia daughter? I thought Alexis went thru Menopause few yrs back. Great job Lucas & Olivia ‘dead to me’ perfectly said.
ah! Just finished watching today’s show. Never saw Janes Patrick Stewart before and I’m very impressed! He has a really natural delivery…he’s terrific! I still think nu Nic is adorable, charming and verrrry likeable, but I think his acting is hit or miss. I feel like I’m watching a nervous stage performance. But I like him and enjoy his rapport with Maura. There’s something about him that’s endearing (in the midst of his good looks).
Great actor! Now let’s hope GH doesn’t blow what could be a great story!
Off topic but why is Julian demonized by all and yet Sony does the same things and everyone makes him out to be the Mob boss with the heart of gold? This is just one of the reasons why GH storylines make no sense. You have one mob boss talking about another as if he’s better with his harem of women and children to boot! Smh
* Sonny
I agree for the most part. It’s maddening. On the other hand while Sonny threatened Carly’s life…Julian seemed just cornered enough to actually try to kill Alexis. Ridiculous to turn him like that since he truly did and probably still does love her.
Applause, applause, Magneto. Sticks in the craw, right? Thing is there’s no halo over Julian’s head. Sonny’s shines so bright; it’s blinding!!
This is a classic case of what’s good for the goose; is NOT GOOD for the gander.
Uh-oh—we gotta bring Luke back so he can help Laura do battle with this newest spawn of the Cassadine clan.
Sorry, thats Sonny job now-lol
Hey, Jimmy.
How much do you want to bet that Sonny will also save Finn’s life?
Why else would TPTB share a scene with us where Finn confides in Sonny? Hmmmmm. Another heroic success in the works….. wonders never cease. And, Sonny is a big, small wonder. Pardon the oxymoron.
Please, no.
Would have been much more exciting if ABC hadn’t leaked it to the press weeks ago.
He is the best actor for this role, I am so happy he is back on a soap. Finally a new refresh villain. Thanks GH! Live the new nick too! But do miss the old one let them be twins!!
Feels like the Metro Court hostage story rebooted
Hmm…who was his momma ?
Is a full sib to Alexis ?
He’s relate to Sam too.
Interesting, Lisa. I have only watched GH for two years or so. I can’t really speculate due to lack of back-stories.
Is Valentin Alexis’s full brother? If so, would he kill his own niece? Of course he would!
I like your idea, Lisa. I wish ‘they’ would go there.
Sigh. More sci-fi and crazy. :- (
Ready to move on.
Not imposing enough-nor old enough–to be a “super evil” Cassadine as touted.
Went over like a wet balloon, as far as I am concerned.
Finally, we got our Valentin! Wish it were Michael Muhney BUT this guy can act! [Needs to shave, though] I hope he is evil BUT isnt murdering people and getting away with it like Sonny boy! Although, it would have been cool if he would have put a bullet in Clulu’s head when she asked “Who is this guy?”
Oh, my Timmmy. I think Muhney would have been too young to play Valentin, albeit he’d make the perfect villain.
Both great actors. But, James is HOT !!
Although very cartoonish, I am enjoying “DEVIL’S” island; Valentin and his minions; and, all the PC marionettes.
He really doesnt put the fear in me but I guess your right, you sweeties ALWAYS fall for the bad guys!
@Timmm.
HaHa, Timmmy boy; it all depends on the baddie…..certainly not Sonny.
Timmm, thanks for reminding us of the great Michael Muhney. Wow, I would learn how to do a cartwheel if he were playing this role!
You and me both Soaphound!
“Did “Theo” know Jason from when he was on the island with Helena?”
Which, that’s a complete and total retcon. Jason was at Crichton-Clark and escaped with Robin shortly after he and Helena were defrosted. They went back to Port Charles, he got hit by Ava’s car, he was in the hospital, and then living at Liz’s house. There was no period of time when he was under Helena’s control where he could have jetted off to Cassadine Island for a few days.
He looks too young to be the grandfather’s off shoot. He looks closer to nick’s age. Gh screw up as usual.
Yeah, rcraig, maybe. But, Mikko must have impregnated Valentin’s mother later in life. There are members in my family who are older than their aunts snd uncles.
It does happen….as men are ‘viable’ at any age . Look at Mick Jagger.
I want the character of Valentin to be a combination of Stefano Dimera, Victor Newman, and Adam Chandler.
You forgot Victor Kiriakis, Deimos, Andre…
Just joshin’ with you, Lou.
I do think that all these guys are tame little lambs compared to Valentin. Think Liesl.
I expect to see Valentin’s forked tongue, spewing fire. He must have flown through the castle’s tower….a scene straight from HARRY POTTER.
Could be he wants Roxie. Ha!!
My bad !!!! I didn’t want to appear greedy.
@Lou.
Love your repartees, Lou. You never miss a beat.
But, yeah. I am ready for a ‘classic’ villain. If not Helena, then Valentin will do….Sick of the run-of-the-mill, pedestrian baddies that are Julian and Sonny…
I just hope this will not be a repetition of a repetition of a repetition.
We shall see. But, other than welcoming and seeing James on stage, I was not impressed with the ‘acrobatics’.
Sorry, but if this was supposed to be an exciting reveal, it fell REALLY flat for me. I think I had the same face as Laura, a mixture of “what the hell ” and “come again? ” I’m still trying to figure out who the heck this guy is. Then my mind started to wander upstairs and what I might do if I could get Billy Miller in cuffs and…suffice to say the entire episode is a big blur for me now.
Welcome to the show! I’m pumped for this storyline. Flush all airtime for Darby, Valerie, Curtis, Dylan, and especially Kiki and give it to this fine actor and hugely promising storyline instead.
Awwwww!! I like Curtis, Dillon and Kiki, Jason…
We have not seen the end of Dillon and Kiki. I am waiting for that to happen expectantly.
Plus, I would say ten Hail Marys if Curtis would dump Valerie for Nina…..hot, hot, hot.
I am sure James P Stuart ( he must be of Scottish heritage….my Granda’s surname, as well) will get his due time; with or without the above characters.
Love James P.
Nina and Curtis? Yeah, I could go for that! Michelle Stafford is simply amazing. Give her a stronger storyline! Mr. Valentini, are you listening??
P.S. Watching Double Jeopardy at the moment. Ms. Stafford looks borderline scuzzy in this movie. Age has only made this woman look more and more beautiful.
@jason.
I agree, Jason. I said the same thing days ago. Michelle gets more beautiful with time. Sadly, there are many who abhor this gorgeous butterfly….they actually ridicule her.
When she puts her sexy on….well, she’s incomparable.
Sex scenes mostly bore me to death. But, all I can say is when Michelle’s Phyllis ( Y&R ) danced her dance with ‘Ronan’, my eyes could not look away.
Guilty as charged….and proudly so…..CeeCeeGirl!!!! We’ll never see eye-to-eye on your MS superfandom/admiration(expialidocious…) but hey, I think we can survive our difference of opinion! As for Valentin’s not-so-surprise appearance? Seems like it took forever to finally reach fruition, but now his unveiling is fast-tracked in record time? A bit of a build-up to this rapscallion’s revelations wouldn’t have gone amiss….I was hoping the storied miscreant of all miscreants would have languished in plain sight under a false identity for at least a substantial while in order to exact his evil revengenda…..until Liesl blew the whistle on him!!!! This way was just sooooo….anti-climactic!
@Shay.
You bet, Shaybelle. We do disagree as to Michelle’s talent and simpatia; well, in your case, lackthereof. DOUBLE LOL. That’s why we get along so well. We accept and respect each other’s opinion/ reaction to characters/ storylines etc. It’s what makes the world go ’round.
I do agree with your entire premise where Valentin is concerned. The thrill was spent as soon as the mask came off.
We are of a mind, Shay……it would have behooved the writers to have created suspense. Sloooowly leading to ‘the discovery’ of the man behind ‘Theo’.
You are too kind calling Valentin a rapscallion/miscreant……excecrable, fits him to the letter. ….he is Helena reincarnate. Are we sure he is not her son? LOL. Was Mikko as bad as his wife?
I expected Valentin to take Sam to the railroad tracks, bonds in hand; waiting for THE train to Hades.
Yes, the evil revengenda ( how witty and hilarious are you? Only you can spin a word so meaningfully…just love it) We missed the chance to have been grabbed by the throat and having gone through ‘hoops and loops’; tongue in cheek suspense. The prelude did not herald a “took my breath away” plot. The outcome killed the overture.
As you say, no build up….killed the mystery too soon. We do not get to see the shock on Liesl face? Willl that still happen…..only if we assume Valentine is, indeed, Nathan’s genitor.
Nonetheless, I’ll wait and see how this will all unfold. I do not want to see Jadon’s heroics…I am soooo done with that….and Sam sighing in that husky unintelligible whisper, ” Jason, he’s taking me to the railroad tracks; eek; he’s gonna tie me up; and, I’ll hear the train’s whistle blooow”.
I am hoping that the writers have a good reason and an ace up their sleeve for hurrying this along. Even so, I do believe my expectations were too great ( sorry, Dickie).
Indeed, CeeCee,…INDEED! So, you ask me if Mikkos rated as evil as Helena? That would be rather like comparing apples and oranges because they are so vastly different in the manner they’ve been presented…LOL. Check out the one and only man to inhabit that role, the late character actor, John Colicos. As you will see, he was no chick magnet on the outside…really almost comical in his appearance and megalomaniacal approach as the Cassadine patriarch….more of a cartoonesque Onassis/Soros-like figure than a Greek God, that’s for sure! Hence it was quite obvious his power and wealth served as the aphrodisiac to attract so many of those apparent lovers, including, his legend of a wife! Yet, I still find it hard to reconcile today’s version of said dragon lady with being his still-devoted spouse. You must remember, our initial view of Helena came after the death of Mikkos as an equally, over-the-top vengeful loony—then played by the somewhat faded and matronly drama queen, Elizabeth Taylor—when she crashed Luke and Laura’s wedding, so they seemed like a perfectly well-matched couple in a number of ways, not the very least of which was a darkly insane temperament. Not so much with the cool, classy and refined Constance Tower’s version of this fabled villainess….I can only envision her waxing so romantically over a tall, dark and handsome gentleman like her own real-life spouse, John Gavin. To think such a beautiful, sophisticated and intelligent woman would be pining for the toad-like Mikkos over thirty years following his demise is truly stretching it! But the talented Miss Towers has pulled off that amazing feat….however, I would say that her Helena has a much more organized and business-like approach to her lunacy….a method to her madness, so to speak! (And I’m still anxiously awaiting her great return….I refuse to believe this larger-than-life virago has been permanently vanquished from this earth!) Furthermore, do I believe there is any possibility that Valentin sprang from her womb? Anything can happen on Cassadine Island, but I rather hope not, or Helena shall not only be Mommy Dearest, but “Grandmommy Dearest” to Nathan! And it does sound very much like Valentin has suffered his fate as an outcast Cassadine due to his lowly, illegitimate birth….a typically historical royal situation and prime fuel for his grand resentment of his father and his family. I suspect his mother’s identity will be somewhat less illustrious….perhaps a servant girl or even a prostitute??? LOL. Oh, speaking of his “revengenda” plans? You are so right, CeeCeeGirl, that is a fabulous term, but alas, I cannot take credit for it….it was first uttered by Gabriel Mann’s adorable Nolan Ross on “Revenge.” Definitely made so much an impression on me that it stuck in my mind….yet, I can only wish I’d thought of it! But thank you for the compliment, just the same….I do so love a clever turn of phrase or cheeky play on words!…Having said that, there are my Helena thoughts in a nutshell…..now I best be going….I have a number of posts yet to go because the end of the GOP convention left me exhausted yet exhilarated and I used the weekend to catch up on my rest and recharge my batteries instead of visiting these threads. I hope to meet up later!
It’s nice to see a real true villain emerge and all the better he’s a cassadine. I’ve said it before and I’ll day it again very character doesn’t have to be ambiguous. Some guys have all the luck pain and evil inside. It’s ok.
Enough of the crazy Cassidines !!!! That’s not what we want !! Loving Franco and Elizabeth. I never thought that they would click, but I am happy to say that they do ! Looking forward to Elizabeth and Hayden’s story and Kristina and Parker’s love story !!!!!! Loved Kristina and Sonny’s heart to heart. Finally , love is back on the canvas. Would love to see Nina and Carly’s friendship grow. Maybe a surrogacy down the line to make Nina a mom !!! Claudette is a bore. Thought that she was French, where is the accent ???? The last thing that GH needs is more new characters !!!!!!!!

GH and OLTL Alum Patrick J. Gibbons Reveals the Story Behind Writing Trina’s Song on ‘General Hospital’ (Exclusive)

At the conclusion of today’s August 21 episode of General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) sings a lullaby to baby Dez, that went into a montage to close out the episode as her father Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) reports to Pentonville and winds up in his jail cell.
However, in a fun fact, the song entitled, “A Lonely Heart To Give” was actually written by none other than former One Life to Live and General Hospital actor, Patrick J. Gibbons.
Daytime fans first met Gibbons as Sam Manning on One Life to Live. At the time, when he started on the soap, he was just 5-years-old. Gibbons played the part from 2010-2013 on ABC and Prospect Park’s editions of the show. Fast-forward to 2018, Gibbons shows up on General Hospital as Wyatt Hoover, the scout who seemed always be injured, but in the thick of the drama. Patrick had appeared on GH multiple times as Wyatt including: 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER’S DEATH CAME THE INSPIRATION FOR HIS SONG
Now in 2026, General Hospital fans are getting to learn about another side of Gibbons’ talent as a songwriter and guitar player after “A Lonely Heart to Give” debuted today! Michael Fairman TV caught up with Patrick, who is now a senior at Penn State entering his final year as a finance major, to get the back-story of how his song wound up on GH!
Gibbons explained he wrote the song in honor of his grandmother who passed away a few years ago with whom he was, very, very close with. “Randomly, my grandmother had a downfall and passed away during the second semester of my sophomore year. I was in my dorm a lot and I was just playing with my guitar. And at the time, I was really into finger-style playing. I wrote the lyric and music to it (with a little help from my guitar teacher Lou), and my mom showed the rough demo to Frank Valentini (EP, General Hospital). He’s like an uncle to me. Frank loved it so much he said, “Finish that up. I want to hear the whole thing, and I want it on the show.”
MAKING MUSIC FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL
Gibbons and his parents took the next steps! “So now, all we needed was a female voice, because I thought that would fit the song well,” Patrick shared. “At the golf club we go to my parents were at a dinner. They liked the singer that was performing and spoke to her about the song, and she says she would like to bring it to her ‘boss’ who ended up being Eric Bazilian of the Hooters fame!” (Bazilian also wrote the smash hit song “One of Us” for Joan Osborne).
Next, “We went in the studio and recorded it and the song came together and it was beautiful. We loved it. They loved it at General Hospital and now they’re putting it the show and they are coming in with a piano, instead of a guitar. Paul Glass, the GH musical director, has been keeping us updated over the last six months of how it was coming along, and when it would air, and how GH put their own arrangement to it. I can’t wait to see and hear what they did with it.”

PATRICK’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE FAMILY
Everyone knows that the One Life to Live extended family share a very tight bond, and Patrick said he does stay in touch with a few of his former One Life to Live co-stars, especially those from the Manning family! “I stayed in touch with Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair) and sent her little videos here and there. She was like my second mom for five years. We keep in contact with Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr) over X the most, and she can’t believe how big I’ve gotten. Like, none of them can! (laughs). I also loved working with Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) and Trevor St. John (ex-Todd and Victor Jr.), and to me since I was so young, they were just my friends, ‘Roger and Trevor,’ not Todd Manning or Victor Jr.”
It was a trip to California and a visit to Port Charles that ultimately led to Gibbons second soap role of Wyatt Hoover. Patrick explains, “In 2016, Frank Valentini invited us out to Los Angeles to visit the set of General Hospital. I think he heard me say, ‘This is so much fun. I miss being on the set.’ He goes, ‘You should come out. I’ll bring you on the show. We can make you a character.'”
A few years later, Patrick’s dream became a reality! “Then, by the summer of 2018, I was playing Wyatt, the scout, and shared scenes with Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and the best was when I shared a scene with Roger Howarth and Michael Easton (ex-John, OLTL and ex-Silas, Finn et al, GH), it was like chemistry from the old days.”

IT’S ALL IN THE NUMBERS
As to his future aspirations, it’s a career in the finance game that has piqued Gibbons’ real-life interest. But never say never to a return to acting. Patrick explained, “I’ve always enjoyed numbers. And on top of that, one of the biggest parts of finance is being personable and outgoing.”
He continued, “That’s one of the greatest skills I developed growing up. I really love the markets. I’m super interested. I’m never going to close the door to acting. I’m always open to that because I just love it so much. It’s such a great art.”
Take note! If there are any investment bankers or private equity folks among the GH faithful looking for a young analyst next year, Patrick’s DMs are open. You can find him on X at @PatrickJGibbons.”
So, what did you think of the song sung by Trina on today’s GH that was written by Patrick J. Gibbons? Did you enjoy Patrick’s performances as One Life’s Sam and GH’s Wyatt? Would you like to see him back on GH at some point? Let us know via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Admits That He Didn’t Expect the Role of Michael Corinthos to be Recast, and Would Consider Working on Another Soap (Exclusive)

Chad Duell, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor, who stepped away from the pivotal role of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, opened up about: his previous decision to leave the series after nearly 15 years, where’s he’s at now after time away from the demands of a daytime soap opera, and took a stroll down memory lane with some of Michael’s most-acclaimed storyline during his run, during a livestream chat on August 19 on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.
Viewers last saw Duell on-screen as Michael in January of 2025, and with his successor in the role, Rory Gibson making his debut at the GH Nurses’ Ball in episodes that aired later in May. It was clear that during the conversation, Chad was a bit surprised that the GH brass decided to recast him when he thought he was just taking some much needed time off.
Burn-out of the daily grind of being on a soap was definitely a part of Chad’s decision to take a break. Duell explained “People know when you’re doing something for so long or your character is kind of in the same place for so long or doing the same stuff over and over again, you do get a a little burnt out, you get a little stiff, stale, a little stiff at times. I didn’t want that to be any sort of lasting impression. I have 15 years of a body of work of I’ve done on that show, which is fantastic.”

WHILE CHAD WAS AWAY GH RECAST MICHAEL CORINTHOS WITH RORY GIBSON
Chad shared, his mindset when leaving GH was, “I’m taking some time away, we’ll see what happens.” Then he added, “Obviously, they decided to go in a different direction with Michael when I was gone. I didn’t think they were going to bring somebody back in my place. But you know, it’s the business. You never know what can happen.”
Duell also shared he has not watched a single episode of General Hospital since he left the series, but now feels he reenergized following the loss of his father and stepping away from the GH, “I’m in a place now mentally, where I’m ready to sink my teeth into it again.”

Even though he is no longer Michael on GH, Chad was very happy with his final storyline where Michael was set on fire when a bomb exploded at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse. “It was fun to put him in a dangerous situation, because I was wanting Michael to be in something scary instead of trying to be a hero character or just things happening around him, but to be the center point of tragedy happening to him. (I always saw) Michael as the heart of the (Corinthos) family.”
When Michael was badly burned the show chose not burn his face, which normally a soap does when they are recasting role and switching actors. Chad weighed-in, “They didn’t burn my face because I told Frank Valentini (EP, GH) I’m willing to come back. It was just a little bit of a break. So, I assumed that if they would have burned my face, they could have brought somebody back looking different than me… if that’s what their plan was.”

MEMORABLE MICHAEL STORYLINES
One of Chad’s most memorable performances was the in the storyline of Michael’s rape while he was sentenced to prison in 2010 and the confession of it in 2011. “It was so well-written and I was very nervous,” recalled Chad. “When I get really nervous about something, it ends up being really good when I do it, because it just means I care a lot about it”
“I have to put a lot of effort and work into it, and I really want it to be good. I was working with Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) and Steve Burton (Jason) a lot during those scenes, and Laura Wright (Carly). It was great working with Steve and Dominic, especially, during that storyline.
A NEW SOAP ROLE FOR CHAD?
As to a future soap opera role, Chad is open to the idea and would love to jump back in to a juicy role, “I know people over at The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. They know that if they’re interested, I would love to come in for a screen test or something, and they can see what I’m doing.”

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Ric’s History of Jealousy Where Elizabeth is Concerned Has Come Back Around

On General Hospital, Ric Lansing (Rick Heart) is about to fall back into dangerous old patterns by the foreshadowing during the Wednesday, August 19 episode. After first coming to see his brother, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and telling him of his plan to propose to Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) his longtime love tonight, Sonny has concerned.
Next, Sonny reminds his brother of what has happened in the past, when things have gone south with Elizabeth and wonders if it’s too soon for him to propose to her. What Ric did not tell Sonny is that he has seen the developing closeness between Sonny’s son, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Elizabeth, which is propelling his urgent need to propose.
Meanwhile, Dante ran into Elizabeth at the park during a break from their mutual team softball games. She needs help with a bookcase after the game at her house. Dante wants to put it together for her. Later, Dante arrived at Elizabeth’s house, limping after injuring his knee during the game. Head nurse Liz wanted to check out the injury as much as Dante protested, which required him to take off his pants.

RIC BEGINS TO UNRAVEL
Outside Elizabeth’s widow, Ric arrives with a bouquet of roses and the engagement ring. When he leers through the widow he is shocked to see Elizabeth rubbing Dante’s leg while Dante is in his boxer/shorts. He storm troops into the house, demanding to know what is going on here? Both Elizabeth and Dante look surprised by his reaction. In the pick-up of today’s Thursday, August 20 episode (see GH video teaser below), viewers will learn the upshot for all three characters.
A VENGEFUL PAST
As longtime GH fans know, Ric has done some horrible, vengeful things in regards to Elizabeth starting back in 2003 after she lost her baby after Ric’s ex, Faith Rosco pushed her down a flight of stairs. Ric accused Sonny for the accident and to get revenge, Ric kidnapped Carly (who was married to Sonny at the time), and stashed her in a panic room below the house where he was living with Liz.
On top of that, Ric fed his wife Elizabeth birth control pills to keep her from getting pregnant so that they could raise Carly’s baby together after it was born. Eventually, Elizabeth found Carly in the panic room but ended up having a pulmonary embolism. When she woke up in the hospital, Elizabeth was all confused by what happened, and Ric convinced her that her vision of Carly was just a bad dream. Eventually, Elizabeth learned the horrifying truth and divorced Ric.
Years later, Ric noticed the connection between Elizabeth and “Jake Doe” who eventually turned out to be Drew (Billy Miller) A jealous Ric hired Hayden Barnes to show up and claim to be “Jake’s” wife. Elizabeth stepped aside, and when Ric planned to propose to Elizabeth at the 2015 Nurses Ball, Carly exposed his manipulations, and Elizabeth dumped him yet again. And those are just two examples of the lengths Ric will go to for Elizabeth!
So, we ask you, given the history of Elizabeth and Ric, how do you see this playing out with Dante in the picture? How will Ric derail their growing bond? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
