Kin Shriner and Marcus Coloma Chat On General Hospital Departures, John Stamos, Avery Pohl & New Season of ‘2D’s’

Photo: ABC and IMDb

Two former stars of General Hospital, Kin Shriner (ex-Scott) and Marcus Coloma (ex-Nikolas) opened up about their exits from the ABC daytime drama series, their focus on the second season of their comedy series, the ‘2Ds‘, and more on their recent livestream conversation with Michael Fairman on his You Tube Channel.

The first season of ‘2D’s’ was posted to Coloma’s Instagram account, and it featured many of his former GH co-stars including: Finola Hughes, Jon Lindstrom, Carolyn Hennesy and other former GH cast members, Michelle Stafford, Billy Warlock with his wife, Julie Pinson (ex-Port Charles, ATWT and Days) and more.

During the livestream conversation, Coloma, who has Avery Pohl (Esme, GH) guest-starring in episode one of season two of the comedy series, opened up about his diciest plot point to portray while GH, that of Nikolas hooking up with Esme.

Marcus expressed: “That was a very interesting time, because I love working with Avery. She’s just a great actress and super professional. She’s also just a really fun person to hang out with.  And so, sleeping with Esme was very stressful, because for so long I set up this strong relationship with my son (Spencer), and this popped in (the storyline) that, ‘you were going to sleep with Esme’.  It would really stress me out to be honest with you, because I would try to play as real as I possibly could and I would try to justify it on how I would get to that place. On top of that, in real life, I’m 44 and Avery is 21. I’m like, “God, I am going to make out with this kid.” I was stressed about it. At the same time, I really enjoy working with her.”

The actor, who was finished at GH after his three-year contract as the dark prince of the Cassadine clan, shared his thoughts on his exit after several months away from the soap opera.  Coloma said, “It really turned into that thing where you go on a date and fall in love with a girl . By the end of the three years, you fall in love with your castmates, you fall in love with the character. You fall in love with a lot of things about it, the fans.  And, I was surprising very sad, when I found out that it was going to end.  I wasn’t sad like, ‘I think we should make this thing work’.  I agree, I don’t think this should continue, but I was really sad about it. Now, I’m very happy because in this silly show the  I have found my happy place.”

Kin Shriner, who for six decades had played Scott Baldwin on GH, a few months back shared he was not coming back to the soap anytime soon.  However, as we have seen before, Scott has resurfaced.  Shriner weighed-in: “I don’t know what to tell you about that, and I am going to turn back up like a bad penny, and hopefully it’s going to be fun. My focus went from him over to this guy in the black trench coat and I’m having fun. So, I haven’t really thought about Scotty Baldwin … he’s in the closet right now.”

In the season one finale of the 2D’s comedy series, Shriner’s long-time budding, John Stamos (ex-Blackie, GH) made a cameo capping off the story.  Just how did Kin get John to participate? Kin gave the back-story: “I kind of pitched it to him a couple of different ways and getting John to commit to anything is tough, but I think in the end, he probably looked at a couple of episodes (before agreeing).  Stamos has been so busy with his book that I could only get him on this way (with iPhone video), but I think he is going to be willing to let me come to his house and shoot live. So we are looking forward to that and maybe he will be in the finale of season two!”

John and Kin first met when John started on GH in 1982. Kin recalls, “I took John under my wing when he was merely an 18-year-old kid that showed up eager and I taught him the ropes. He was from Orange County and he was raw, but he was tremendous at comedy. He was funny.  We kind of just had fun, and then we moved to New York and hung out, and then his career took off with Jack Klugman and then Full House. John had innate comedy timing, which Marcus has, and either they have it, or they don’t.”

This weekend starting on August 19th, Marcus and Kin are hosting several fan opportunities in the SoCal area.  Check out ticket info here.

In case you missed it, watch our full chat with Kin and Marcus below.

Now let us know, what did you think about the departures of Scott and Marcus from GH? Are you enjoying the 2D’s comedy series and all of the soap opera guest stars within it? Let us know in the comment section.

Probably not wise to label Kin as “ex-Scott”. We know he’ll be back for Bobbie’s memorial (whenever that is) and when they can work him into story. The romance with his schnitzel seems to have faded despite both being fan favorites.

The vets seem to cycle in and out of major stories. Right now, Ned/Eddie is front and center. Mac has a burgeoning storyline with Cody and Lucy has a strong B level story.

Fans have long clamored for the return on Serena Baldwin. Other than a brief visit for Lee’s memorial, she only gets mentioned for attempting to save the whales. Why can’t we have good things?

It’s ridiculous that Scotty gets a new “long lost kid” at least once a decade (and also that most – if not all – of them end up dead) but we never get to see the one kid he actually planned to have, and raised from birth, Serena.

On the other horn… maybe it’s the fact that all the other kids ended up dead that keeps Serena away from Port Charles. Can’t really blame her, if that’s the case. She probably doesn’t even know she has a “new” half-brother… unless the whales told her.

Another way you can tell there’s no plans for Serena to return permanently is when they give characters similar sounding names. First Sabrina and more recently when they revealed Ms Wu’s name to be Selena. Rule of thumb for soaps – no similar sounding names. Main reason why Kiki was given that nickname instead of going by her birth name of Lauren. You can’t have a Laura and Lauren on simultaneously.

Didn’t care for Marcus as Nikolas. He never fit the role for me. I’m hoping that when the character is brought back, either Tyler Christopher or (in my dreams) Michael Muhney are playing the role, and the writing is better. As for Scott, he should absolutely be brought back for Bobbie’s memorial, when it’s revealed that she died. They have such a rich history together, it would be a crime not to include him.

They need to bring marcus back on gH

Marcus was the perfect Nikolas!!

I know Kin has come and gone from GH many times over the years, so there’s no doubt he’ll be back sooner rather than later. Scott Baldwin is a GH institution, and I honestly don’t understand why they wouldn’t just keep him on the show as one of the regular vets like he has been for a number of years, along with Tristen Rogers, Wally Kurth, John York, Kristina Wagner Lynn Herring, and so forth. Not to mention, Scott and Obrecht had a fun thing going. But Kathleen Gati is another one that has seemingly fallen off the face of the earth, since they used Liesel as a bone marrow donor for Willow.

I think the issue is that the veteran recurring characters are great to have around but it’s just not possible to have them in continual story. Right now Ned & Olivia are in a big story. Molly is as well. It seems Cyrus’ story is getting bigger. It seems Mac’s daddyhood will be revealing itself. Valentin is front and center (though he’s on more than some contract folks). Gladys is probably in her final storyline. Which means others go off canvas for a while. Honestly, it doesn’t matter if the vocal fans want more of these recurring characters. The contract folks are always going to have priority so there’s only so much story for others.

Great observations Jeff. I would point out that unlike previous producers, Frank is okay with recurring performers occasionally driving story. When Ryan first returned, Jon Lindstrom got nominated as lead actor two years in a row. I’d argue for Wally Kurth to submit as lead this year as well.

Unlike the veteran performers, JPS chose to recur to allow flexibility for other projects. Wally probably does rather well bouncing back and forth with DAYS.

Jane Elliott is back on contract and knocking it out of the park. The Tracy/Eddie scenes on Friday should be required teaching in soap acting class.

TVJeff, all valid points by you. I get that GH has a large cast and not everyone can have a story at the same time, and that they’re gonna write for the contract players first and foremost.

I don’t expect to have all of the veterans in continual storylines. I actually think they do a pretty good job keeping the veterans involved in current storylines overall, better than some previous regimes. I’m loving all the air time Wally Kurth has been getting lately with the Ned/Eddie story. But I don’t think it’s too much to ask to have legacy characters like a Scott Baldwin, Robert Scorpio, all the other names we know, on the show at least once a week, or I’d even take once every two weeks. Just to keep everyone represented, even if they don’t happen to be in a major storyline at the moment. Claire Labine used to the master of that, from back when I first started watching the show. I know that was a different time, a different era, however.

I just think they can find room enough for everyone. A GH institution like Kin Shriner that has been part of the show for 46 years should never be an “ex” anything, as long as he is able and as long as he wants to be part of the show. He doesn’t need to be part of storylines all the time. But I don’t think seeing Scotty up to his latest scheme, or with his “Schnitzel” once a week is too much to ask.

they may be under even more budget stress than usual. On Thursday’s episode, Kristina had a whole conversation with Terri about joining the board of her foundation … and it all happened offscreen, presumably so they wouldn’t have to pay the recurring actress who plays Terri (Cassandra James) to come in for a day. I also wonder if that’s why we didn’t see Cameron (William Lipton) at all this summer. And not seeing Liesl (Katheleen Gati) is just bizarre as Willow recovers.

Kin needs to come back for Liesle and Marcus just needs to come back!

I like Marcus as Nicholas, he’s a great actor & kin will be missed as a long time GH actor & great also. GH is loosing great actors & the fans because of it. I do hope the fill in writer’s don’t mess it up. The 2 Dicks is awsome, but they should invite there pal Maurice in on it, Marcus & him have done some funny stuff along with inviting Kin. Like the Star Track thing with all 3.

General Hospital Alum Richard Simmons ‘Not Interested’ In Biopic with Pauly Shore Portraying Him

Former General Hospital guest star and fitness guru, the reclusive Richard Simmons, has come forward and addressed actor and comedian, Pauly Shore’s wish to play the 70’s and 80’s pop culture icon in a biopic about his life.

Shore previously took to social media and on X shared a side-by-side of him and Simmons. Accompanying the post, Pauly expressed: I’ve noticed the reactions to me playing #RichardSimmons in a biopic. I heard he’s living in Big Bear. We’ve been playing phone tag (yes, he has a phone). I’m trying to make it happen, you guys. In the meantime, hit up all the big producers. I’ll see you at @TheAcademy 2025!”

However, TMZ’s sources are reporting on Saturday that Simmons is not in favor of Shore playing him in a film or anyone else, or any biopic on his life.

The outlet shared that Richard’s reaction was that he was aware of the effort behind a biopic, mostly spear-headed by Pauly. but that he just doesn’t want to be involved. Simmons also added that he likes Pauly a lot, but he’s not biting, despite the public’s urging on social media about the idea of a movie on his life.

Born Milton Teagle “Richard” Simmons, he became part of the public conscious back in the 70’s and 80’s with exercise studios and the ability to help his clients lose weight; many of them were celebrities. Simmons himself, admitted to at one time to being overweight, and getting into fitness helped him maintain a healthy living style and he wanted to help others.

Later, he began a four-year recurring run on General Hospital playing himself from 1979-1983.  Simmons returned to the show in 2013 for the Nurses’ Ball to taunt Lucy (Lynn Herring). He also was host of the Emmy-award winning, The Richard Simmons Show, which focused on personal health, fitness, exercise, and healthy cooking.  Over the last several years, Simmons has withdrawn from public life.

What would you think of a Richard Simmons biopic and if it included some moments in front of the camera and behind the scenes of what went down when he appeared on GH? Do you think it will ever happen given Simmons current position on the matter? Let us know in the comment section.

Promising news for General Hospital’s John J. York (Mac Scorpio). The actor who went public with his health battle shared Friday on Good Morning America that a life-saving blood stem cell transplant donor may have been located.

For letting me spend more time with my wife and my daughter and my son-in-law and my grandchildren and seeing this beautiful blue sky.”

John has played Mac Scorpio for 32 years and until recently had kept his battle with these two blood cancers private, but came forward to clarify why he is taking time away from GH, and how he is been trying to find a life-saving donor match.
