GENERAL HOSPITAL: Laura and Holly Have a Heart-to-Heart Chat!

On Tuesday’s General Hospital, Laura Spencer (Genie Francis) and Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) finally had a moment where the two women who gave birth to Luke’s children, hashed out what happened in the past, when Holly had sex with Luke and became pregnant with Ethan (Nathan Parsons), while Luke was married to Laura as related on yesterday’s episode.

Later, the kidnapper reveals he has a photo of a duct taped and held hostage Ethan and Lucky (Jonathan Jackson), which the women see first and then share with Luke. (Anthony Geary)

Genie Francis and Emma Samms throughout their entire General Hospital history never had a moment where the two discussed Holly becoming pregnant with Luke’s child.  And the two actresses were happy to have this scene together.

There was also a line in the script about Holly’s relationship to Luke’s cousin Bill Eckert, and a small Twitter controversy erupted because of it.  Then, head writer Ron Carlivati made clear to fans that in the script it had been written that Holly did know Bill Eckert, but when the episode aired, the line in the script had been changed, and he did not why.

Later, in an effort to clear the air Emma Samms tweeted that it had nothing to do with the head writer and his team re-writing history, but that she and Tony Geary changed the line.  Samms tweeted: “Big confession re GH. Tony & I couldn’t remember the Bill/Holly thing so changed line. NOT fault of @carlivatiron or @valentinifrank

All in all it was great to see Genie Francis and Emma Samms share a heart-to-heart moment about loving Luke Spencer and the pain, yet love, they have experienced from their relationships with this complicated man.

What did you think of the scenes between Laura and Holly? Comment below!

Huh!? I guess actors get busy over the years and forget what characters they plays long ago did, maybe, but I remember the Billy and Holly taking up a lot of the summer of 1991. I guess they also forgot that Holly was present when Luke and Laura announced they were expecting Lucky.

HUH? Is right, Justin.
Moreover, why the heck didn’t they re shoot the scene? It wasn’t live television. The whole thing is a head scratcher.

It’s possible that Tony Geary refused to re shoot the scene.

I think working with Tony Geary again, years later when he returned, would be something an actor would remember.

You would think by now TPTB at GH would have discovered General Hospital Wiki and Youtube. I guess when Emma decided to go off script, they had no way to verify who was right, her or RC. Maybe they tried to call him and he was at the movies and had his cell off. That must be it.

I’m waiting for Genie’s tweet that she changed the script to Holly not knowing Luke had a son and was married. RC must have been at the dentist when they tried to call him on that one.

Shame on everybody involved, including Emma Samms. It was 1992, not 1892.

I distinctly remember a scene where they both agreed to have HIV tests before consenting to sex with one another.

Loved Laura and Holly having the heart-to-heart. Genie and Emma really made it that much better. And on the other network, also thought how Maya and and Caroline mended fences was very well done.

I know everyone has their opinion and need to vent, but it get’s really boring to hear all of the naysaying and bickering repeated again and again. I’m a longtime viewer of GH, but somehow I’ve forgotten, or missed some of the details.

I’m just happy that for the most part I am enjoying this finale…so far. And as a suggestion to some others, get over it and smell what rose time that we have with Luke, Laura and Holly together.

P.S. Agree with JimL about Franco’s scenes with Dr. O. They have fun chemistry with each other.

Holly was in Texas with Luke, Laura, Sean, Frisco, Felicia and Robert in late 1984 when Luke announced that Laura was having a baby so to see her saying that she didn’t know Luke and Laura were married or that they had Lucky was ludicrous, and frankly, insulting to longtime fans of the show.

Also, Holly wasn’t quite presumed dead yet, depending on what time of the year it was in 1986 when she conceived Ethan, so either she was actually still married to Robert or had gotten into the car accident and was already in a coma so Guza’s original retcon was silly to begin with (especially since he was working on the show when Robert and Holly were a couple), and yet, somehow the current writing staff made that retcon even more ridiculous.

People behind the scenes need to go to YouTube and watch old clips of the show so they get their timelines straight.

Thing is..
The actors are not involved as the fans are..
They act their scenes go home and have a beer or ice cream and forget about it..
Fans hold onto near every moment the Actors do not..

A scene where someone dies of whatever..
It affects the fans to cry and all sorts of emotions, the actors job is done they go home and it’s over..

I can see how after decades and thousands of scripts they would forget..
They are actors not same as the fans.. they don’t carry the emotions with them for decades over a story or scene..
It a good day when an actor can remember last months script lol ..

Good Lord, Suoo–honestly? We are not just talking about the fans’ knowledge of history, we are talking about the script writers, the directors, the producers.
Holly had an on going affair with Bill Eckert–she choose him over Mac Scorpio and they lived together in Bill’s lighthouse. Bill and Holy were a front burner storyline which lasted many months.
Finally, Emma Samms is being very gracious and sacrificial in blaming herself for this horrible and glaring mistake.
Just once can you EVER call TPTB on their mistakes? If Emma Samms honestly did rewrite the lines (which is completely implausible) then why did not anyone demand a retake? You don’t know what you’re talking about….again.

Harry, RC tweeted a pic of the actual script from the show with the dialogue the way it was originally written, and unless you believe it’s a fake, then Emma definitely changed the dialogue as she said.

You can see it for yourself here:
comment image

Personally, the whole Holly/Bill thing was before my time of watching GH, so it doesn’t mean anything to me. To me, it’s one line of dialogue in a 36 minute show that I didn’t notice.

But I can understand the long time viewers picking up on it. And it was a bad mistake to let slip through the cracks. They have directors, producers, production assistants and so forth that have been with the show for many years, well before FV and RC took over, and you would think one of them, someone, would have caught the mistake before it aired.

Well said Harry. Another thought i have is that if Tony and Emma decided to re-write the line (or re-write history), A – how do actors get that much power, and B – thanks for slapping your long-time viewers in the face. I’m sadly realizing i invested way too many years into this show.

But Dan, it doesn’t work that way. Emma would not have changed the dialogue due to her memory lapse. She would have just trusted the head writer.
Her explanation is an attempt at damage control and this attempt only made things worse. I love Emma Samms–she is a real sweetheart who threw herself under the bus for the sake of Ron and maybe Frank. I am not blaming Ron either but the whole thing just reeks.
Moreover, Emma would never have changed the dialogue on her own. Tony Geary might have been capable of such, but since this exchange transpired between Laura and Holly, not Holly and Luke, Emma’s explanation is even more suspect.

su0000…sorry, but what you wrote shows a total lack of understanding and the importance of continuity, whether it be in a film and its sequel, a spinoff of a TV show, a series of a particular novel…or a soap opera. If the actor is truly invested in his character, he or she will care. So will the writers.

If continuity didn’t matter, Superman, whose weakness is kryptonite would never have heard of it or harmed by it. Clark Kent, Lois and Jimmy who all work together at the newspaper…would act like they never knew each other if they ever met in another place. Perhaps in a new film Sherlock Holmes will tell a new friend that he never knew a Watson. Jon Snow in Game of Thrones wouldn’t have met Ygritte…his first love. Do you get my point? In continuing stories, regardless of the medium…continuity is important. If it’s a graphic novel and the story picks up where it left off…the characters should be in the same clothes when last we saw them. And in the words of Yul Brynner in The King and I…et cetera , et cetera….

If you immerse yourself in fiction, you immerse yourself in the world…the time, place, people. It all matters.

Ana, you are correct: “insulting to longtime fans of the show.”

And this is supposed to be the “sendoff of all sendoffs” for TG? Not so much.
And this is supposed to be the “welcome back” for Genie Francis? Not at all!

Yes, that’s the very least they could day. But there is a massive evidence piling up that TPTB simply do not care–not for the longtime fans, certainly, nor for the actors.

It threw the whole scene off! Stop changing the lines thanks

Agreed, otherwise, it would have been quite moving.

One line about Holly and Bill…no big deal to me if they change history or not…show is a bit of a mess anyway but yesterdays and todays eps. have been ok…a little better than expected…not a Franco fan but he works best when in scenes with Dr.O…jmo!!!

Roger has definitely been better of late. He’s displayed more charm in his last few scenes, with Dr. O in a comical sense and with Kiki in a more human/softer side. I wish they’d develop his character, though I’m not sure where they can take him. They have to either completely distance him from the lunatic he once was when he was the James Franco character, or bring him back there. Right now, he isn’t formed. He has no ties. I actually think he and Dr. O would be a good couple…she’s only about ten years older than him…and while I don’t necessarily see them matched physically…they’re great together. And, she’s actually quite attractive…cold work.

I liked Holly better than Laura..
Holly seemed better suited with Luke..
The story is picking up, that is good.. I want Luke to go to out in a big bang..
To die the way he lived that would be befitting and righteous ..

In the promo I paused the man that Holly was shooting/going to shoot/whatever and I did not recognize him..
There are 26 days left to the final scene, much yet to come..
Looking forward to Tony’s exist story but yet I’m not looking forward to it..

I and my friends had a hard laugh while reading a soap board that houses the soap kookoo’s.
They went totally cray cray!!! like rabid dogs over a juicy bone over the ”mistake” blaming RC for it with an abundance hate for the poor guy. It/they were outrageous and frightening LOL lol ..
IF, just one had read the tweets, RC tweeted the mistake as did others and Emma and even Luke on Emma’s twitter dropped a comment about the booboo near right away ..
(( gotta love this stuff ! 🙂 🙂

wow Su0000 you liked holly better than laura. I’m so shocked! Why do you hate Genie Francis?

I do not hate anyone…
where do people come up with hate for a character that is not a real person..
I have no feelings towards Genie.. I do not personally know her,I feel nothing towards Genie..
It’s the Laura character she irritates me..
I like Holly better with Luke..

Nobody likes every character and some people dislike more than a few characters, they have hate lists ahha! ..
I have only 3 irritants out of 2 soaps.. may be 4 soon lol ..

Those scenes were all kinds of messed up yesterday. I’m blown away that no one in editing could have picked up the fact that Holly mentioned she didn’t know Bill. They had a freaking relationship!! Furthermore, I’m surprised that Laura would even have to ask that question. Holly had previously left town before Bill was shot dead – which was when L&L returned. One would think that maybe someone like Aunt Ruby would tell the two of them, “Hey, your look-a-like cousin Bill actually had a relationship with your ex-Holly”, especially considering that Ruby was around during that time frame with Holly and Bill.

Then there was the idea that Holly had no clue that L&L were married and had a son regardless of us watching the Aztec Storyline when Holly certainly knew.

I was simply hoping that poor Holly was tied up somewhere and her look-a-like half-sister Paloma was pretending to be her. That scenario could possibly repair all of the damage that Holly’s character has endured ever since the previous regime destroyed her.

Furthermore, I’m speculative about the whole Emma and Tony forgetting what happened. They were both screen partners during the Bill and Holly storyline, so how could both of them forget that? Sounds fishy to me.

Liam,
you do realize decades have past and thousands and thousands of scripts have been remembered for the day and forgotten..
The fans may recall but the actors are doing a job, acting..
What a fan could recall and what actors 30 years/whatever time later would recall are totally two different worlds lol ..
They are actors portraying characters they are not the characters to recall anything would be amazing LOL ..

You bet!

I dont like messing with history because it makes us feel like we wasted our time investing into that particular era but having said that, its a soap and they always have and always will ask us to expand our memories and not obsess over detail so yeah, I loved Laura and Holly acting together. It was cool and there will be more to come. Maybe Holly can come back to PC and share a house, oh I’m sorry, residents only live in hotel rooms, share a hotel suite with Laura? They should open a diner and call it Lolly’s!

LOL Timmm!!! Lolly’s, I love it!

LOL…what Dan said!

Luke and Laura was a love story a great soap thing..
Tony and Genie are not actually Luke and Laura they portray the characters, they are actors getting paid to act the scenes..
The fans hold onto some scenes like it’s gold, the actors do not.
Actors at the end of the go home leave the day behind them..
The fans talk about it, feel it for days after (some hold onto it for 30 years lol actors don’t remember those scripts, scenes, they move on to the next script..
A mistake was made, they, not RC, moved on ..

The budget is so very low that many of the staff has been let go.. it’s down to near barebones staff to handle booboo’s to do retakes and other things that should be done that no longer is.., those days are gone..
GH is running on a shoestring, as is said..

Maybe they did not want to remember since the whole Bill Eckert storyline was a bust and Tony was begging Genie to come back to the show and we have that on interviews on You Tube if you doubt me.

Holly didn’t say that she didn’t know Luke and Laura WERE married, she said she didn’t know whether he was currently married when they met up in Hong Kong years later. Perhaps he was in Fluke mode and gave her the impression that he was a free man. I’m thinking that there’s something to Holly’s subterfuge here. Maybe she’s being made to go along with the kidnapper’s plans? Maybe she’s in on it? It would be very unlike Carlivati to radically change history like that.

Mfarris, like SUoo, you are woefully unaware of GH’s history. In fact, Holly said she did not know that Luke and Laura had a child together.
Luke and Laura announced their pregnancy to Robert and Holly way back in 84.
And boy are you wrong when you say it would be unlike Carlivati to change GH history. Oh my God, are you wrong.

Not unlike them at all: just view the 52nd anniversary show where they completely violated the character of Luke Spencer.

It was a mistake Emma made..
It has nothing to with history being wrongly written.
It was forgotten and spoken incorrectly.
It was quickly explained on RC, Emma, and others twitters..
The twitters told how it happened and why it happened and that it was a mistake Emma made..

This is on Emma not RC, she forgot what happened back then and the script.
Tony commented on Emma’s twitter about it looks they both forgot those days 30 years past LOL ..
She punted her lines.. It was a mistake, everything is moving forward and I’m excited for the next day ..
I can’t wait for the Luke and Tracy last scene 🙁

Mainly fiction, from Holly’s side. She told a different story from Luke. She said they “spend a weekend together,” with no mention of impending danger or doom. Luke said they had a moment when they thought they might die and it happened.

Also, Holly said she “didn’t know Luke was married.”(!). That she “didn’t ask” and he “didn’t say.” How crazy is that! Holly was in Port Charles when Laura “came back from the dead.” She and Laura talked and they became friends. And she certainly know that Luke had a son. She would have had to be deaf and blind not to know!
So silly and totally without any emotional impact.

And poor Genie Francis–standing there listening to Holly destroy Laura’s past in one second. Genie eyes were glistening with tears. And Tony Geary, in his scenes, hardly glanced at Genie and showed no emotion whatsoever. Happened the same way today (Wed.). Tony Geary gave Genie, maybe a cursory glance or so. And Genie is acting her heart out, trying so very hard. SAD.

Perhaps the reason Tony Geary, in his scenes, hardly glanced at Genie and showed no emotion is because as far as he is concerned Luke and Laura’s relationship is a thing of the past. It is over! Luke made it very clear in his conversation with Dillon.

Dillon: What about my mother? She’s gonna need more than an explanation and an apology. She’s gonna want to know why she wasn’t brought in on this from the start. And when you answer, it’s probably not gonna be good enough.

Luke: Truer words, Spielberg. Look, I love your mother. I hate that I had to hurt her. I don’t know if she’ll accept it… but if she will, I’m gonna spend the rest of my life making it up to her.

I saw the scene. That’s why I made my comment. You are just making my point.
Poor Genie. I say it again. Poor Genie. RC said: “We are telling the love story of Luke and Tracy.” Again, I say, HUH?

I thought “we” were also bringing about a legacy character. Again, I say: Poor Genie.” So Fluke “loves” Tracy. I get it. But surely, after all the years of acting with Genie, he could afford her some respect. He could ,at the very least, afford her the courtesy of at least looking at her when he says a line to her.

/

Geary cracked that he won’t miss watching video of Luke’s wedding to Laura in 1981.
(At an astonishing 30 million, the nuptials remain the most-watched episode in daytime history.)
“It was 33 years ago, people,” Geary quipped… “For Christ’s sake, let it go.”

I agree with Tony-
“For Christ’s sake, let it go.”

LOL 🙂

Yes, Nancy, I feel the same way. I did enjoy the Laura and Holly scenes but really do not appreciate the rewrites these characters have gone through over the years. As for Luke…he really has treated the “loves of his life” pretty shabbily so if I were Tracy I would shut him down cold. These ladies deserve better – especially Laura/Genie. Luke and Laura should have been the end game – end of story.

Yes, I agree with you, Les.

Nancy, I doubt Genie’s eyes were ” glistening” with tears because of what Emma said…I think Laura’s eyes were glistening because of what Holly said. Right or wrong she played Laura…her eyes were always the window to her soul…and I saw in that moment resignation, forgiveness and perhaps relief that she had moved on from the hurt as the two women acknowledged their one-time love for Luke Spencer.

All nit-picking aside… I much preferred watching these two gracious,
lovely ladies having a reasonable tête-à-tête. As opposed to witnessing
Denise’s endless screeching…BRING BACK AVA‼️‼️ Lulu’s non-stop
waffling should I, shouldn’t I tell Dante what’s really going on…YES U
SHOULD BEFORE ITS TOO LATE‼️ Valerie playing the innocent
ingenue…As if❗️Nina needs to wake up and smell the SUBTERFUGE‼️
And where oh where has the real Tracy gone? Where’s the FIGHT, the
kick A– attitude & determination she’s known for…

True Harry…they could ease up a bit on Holly’s MAX FACTOR…
Emma is so beautiful she doesn’t need much, less is more.
Genie has brought it home in the last few scenes, just like I
knew she could given the chance. Genie looks FANTASTIC❗️
So glad she’s home.

Agree, especially about the makeup.

Amen Fanny! I cannot stand DAnise! What a waste with Maura. Sonny is a foot away from her and doesnt know its Ava? BS! Why doesnt he just pull off that god awful wig and be done with it!

@Timmm..For a split second there I thought Sonny might actually
pull and tug at it… I’m pretty surprised no one else has questioned
the hair. Maybe their saving it for Franco or Morgan to discover…

I loved the scenes with Laura and Holly. They could be bitter enemies over Luke, but they are dealing with the situation in a mature way. I am sadly dealing with these last few weeks of Tony Geary, and I enjoy Genie Francis and Emma Samms, so I could care less about blips in the backstory. Who cares if Holly knew Bill? It is a tv show. I’m just enjoying the moments of entertainment.

I guess (for me, at least) it’s because Holly more than “knew” Bill, as in “knew him in passing” or something like that. They had a substantial romantic relationship; I don’t remember why it went sour exactly, but Holly’s last scene (for that round; of course she’s been back to GH several times since that departure) was her on a ship relishing the fact that she’d pulled off some scam (I have the vague sense that it had to do with art) that was going to hurt Bill, as he’d hurt her. So for her to say she didn’t know him was pretty jarring.

I agree that otherwise, it was a marvelous set of scenes between two actresses I absolutely adore, and I’m really glad that the writers went the “mature” route rather than the catfight route.

As to whether Emma Samms really changed the dialogue, who knows? I don’t find it as hard to believe as some do. I can easily believe actors forget storylines from long ago; what’s a little harder to believe is that both ES and TG forgot an entire relationship. I am especially surprised that TG would forget it, since as I recall, he liked Bill Eckert and preferred playing him to playing Luke (or at least: he was glad, at the time, to have a different character to play than Luke, and he fought ABC’s decision to kill off Bill and have him play Luke again; whether he’s changed his mind about that over time, I don’t recall seeing him address in any of his interviews). One would think he’d remember Bill’s storylines a little more clearly, but OK, maybe not.

I can see Emma questioning the line, asking TG about it, TG saying basically “I don’t remember that either”–and the line getting changed on TG’s say-so.

Regrettable, however it happened. I can see a valid basis for questioning the way RC handles various characters (i.e., I think it’s valid to debate/question whether he writes various legacy characters in a way that’s true to who we’ve known them to be, through the years), but I’m not remembering instances when he’s gotten the details like this one wrong. I don’t have a problem with ES’s explanation.

I truly believe everything about the Holly Luke Laura debacle is crazy. That includes (sorry), a portion of this article that insinuates, that after decades, it is time for Laura and Holly to clear the air. Duh…after decades? Hell, the audience, just like Laura, only found out about Ethan in 2009. Has everyone forgotten this huge aspect of this story? If so, I guess TPTB have accomplished their goal.

She knew Luke and laura had Lucky and were pregnant with Lucky!! What is the time line of Holly getting pregnant with ethan? She was presumed Dead and came back in 1991. Did Luke know she was still alive? Rewriting important history is rude and distracting.

History was not rewritten..
It was forgotten by Emma, she also forgot the script/lines and she punted her lines, and that is what changed the history.. 🙂
That has been publicly explained to the fans, many times.

It’s Tony’s exit.. just enjoy it it will be good..
I can’t wait to see who will be shot and live or die..
I hope Tony dies by the way he lived !! gangsta style!
and Tony and Tracy’s last moments!
It will be sad 🙁

Su00, stop with the spin job.
This was NOT Emma’s mistake–she was making a cameo appearance and she would never had presumed to rewrite the lines.

She might not have, Harry, but if she consulted TG, as she said, and he said to the director (or whoever) “rewrite the line, it didn’t happen,” well . . . I’m amazed that the two of them couldn’t remember an entire relationship that took up substantial screen time in the early 90s, but I don’t think it’s impossible.

su0000, things get “explained to the fans, many times”—and turn out later to be total lies. The skepticism of Harry and others is certainly justified (though in this case, I’m not having so much trouble believing ES’s explanation).

I do not believe for one moment that Emma forgot the script/lines–or that she “punted her lines.” I give her credit for being the consummate professional.

The “mistake” rests solely on the shoulders of TPTB.

Aren’t you a fan?

Is this really the end of Luke and Laura?

Genie Francis, aka Laura, was among several current and former General Hospital stars who attended Anthony Geary’s last day on the sudser’s set. EW was there and obtained this exclusive photo of the moment Francis said goodbye to Geary, aka the infamous Luke Spencer.

Interestingly, Geary has mixed feelings about playing one-half of the couple that made him and Francis household names.

“It was once very difficult for me realize that more than likely my obituary in the paper will read, ‘Luke of Luke and Laura fame died today.’ It was very upsetting when I came to that realization,” Geary, 68, recalls. “It’s not my favorite time of my life and I don’t think it represents me as a person or an actor. It’s kind of like whenever you are introduced they haul out a high school graduation picture. It can be irritating.”

Yet Geary is mindful of what 37 years on the ABC soap has done for his life. “You balance that with what it has given me … the the opportunity to live on two continents,” says Geary, who plans to move to his second home in Holland where he’s not recognized and the Dutch don’t “care about celebrity.”

“It’s been a really exciting ride,” Geary continued. “In the end it’s been well worth it.”

Geary’s last episode of GH will air July 27.

It means way more to the fans than with the actors..
It is a job with the actors, the love story is with the fans..

Luke and Genie were not a couple they don’t have to love each other.. lol
but- I do believe they are friends..

Luke/Tony and Jane/Tracy are real life very close friends..

Su0000: Are you saying that because it means something more to the fans, but not so much to the actors, that it’s somehow less valid?

Luke and Laura were never my big faves, but my goodness, they were a huge part of this show’s history, and a huge part of the reason why it still has enough of a ratings base to stay on the air (when many other soaps that were airing at the time have bitten the dust). Given that TG is leaving, I don’t think it’s such an unreasonable thing for the long-time fans to expect Laura would play some kind of role in the exit and that the relationship would be recognized.

As for who’s friends with whom, I guess it matters to me only if the reason TG and GF aren’t friends anymore has to do with (as has been rumored) his direct interference with ABC being the reason she hasn’t been on the show regularly for a number of years; if that rumor were to turn out to be true, then yes, I’d care about it, because it would be appalling to me.

Um…SU00, you have been watching GH for about two minutes now. We have all read this interview time and time again and it’s pointless to keep dwelling on it. You act as if someone is arguing with you–you remind me of one of those bag ladies I see on the street having a fight with themselves.
I do not understand why you feel compelled to come in here again and again just to tell veteran viewers that Luke and Laura are obsolete. It’s an odd vendetta you harbor–it’s like being mad at the wind for being windy.
We all love Jane Elliot, we all know she and Tony are dear friends–this is a good thing and no one is arguing with you.
Genie and Tony are not dear friends, but they triggered an intangible, albeit powerful on screen chemistry. Who can explain it? And because it’s unexplainable I will not try to explain it to you. But it was something.
I just wish you would stop fighting with yourself. As I recall, you were in here scorning and mocking the fans who had the unmitigated gall to be incredibly sad when AMC and OLTL were canceled.
Luke and Laura are performing their swan song–they’re paying fidelity to what was and what could have been.
It’s almost over–why can’t you just let it be?

Harry, per usual, you stated it beautifully–and I, of course, agree with you.

Harry…as one MF friend to another…just relax about Su. Everything in me tells me she loves getting people like you into a snit. We all know she’s a cheerleader for anything GH as she sees it. If GH was a baseball team I’m sure they would give her free admission. And if you walked into my bookstore I’d sell you and adult coloring book to help with the Su stress, and as a by-product, to just enjoy yourself. Don’t laugh, they are the hottest fun thing in the market right now. Imagine this…allowing adults to color again.

I’ve read many of the comments posted regarding this scene and it’s more than a little bit disheartening to see so much negativity and vitriol written about a show (by its so-called fans) that I’ve loved dearly for so many years.

To all of the naysayers I say turn off the TV or choose to do what I do: look at the glass as being half full. I, too, have issues with the overall quality of the writing on this program but the gift that was given to us in this scene … Genie Francis & Emma Samms delivering exquisite performances of very well-written dialogue … should be celebrated and not demeaned. I watched these scenes over and over. I felt total elation seeing these fine actresses with such long histories on this show share such wonderful scenes.

Frankly, I could not care less about the line pertaining to Bill Eckert. That character is surely the biggest mistake that Gloria Monty ever made. Why on earth is the focus on him and not these two spectacularly talented women? Watching them together was a pure joy.

I’d also like to also take this opportunity to give high praise to the writing and acting from the scene between Nikolas and Spencer at ELQ. This scene was exceptionally well-written. The chemistry and comfortability present between Tyler Christopher and Nicolas Bechtel as father and son is second to none (though Sonny’s relationships with his sons and the powerful scenes produced by those three fine actors are every bit as good). This was very good stuff. Bravo!

Finally, to all of the individuals that ranted and raved endlessly about the lines spoken by the character Jennifer Smith during her scenes with Luke & Laura, I say you all missed the point. The lines were spot-on. This character is a total skank. The things she said, particularly about the infamous disco rape, were exactly the things that I believe she would have said considering just how sleazy she is. That so many found her and her words repulsive and offensive should suggest mission accomplished, and not that Mr. Carlivati and his writing team screwed up again.

I’m looking forward to seeing all of the treats in store for us as Anthony Geary wraps his run on GH. Keep up the good work, Mr. Valentini and Company!

If the time TG and GF were together is Luke and Laura was not a favorite time in TG’s life and he doesn’t feel it represents him as an actor then he is either falling back on his ability as a pathological liar or he is bitter. Something is wrong with this “picture”. Pun intended.

Wait a minute! Holly was married to Robert too. Where was Robert and how did she become 9 months pregnant and give up the baby without him knowing? Plus, why did Robert think she died in a plane crash and then she wasn’t dead? Explain that! Why would Luke cheat on Laura and she not know about it? He got all bent out of shape about Stefan and her having a child without him. Really the writes messed all this up. You know they added Laura having a child later and the same thing with Holly to create more drama.

General Hospital’s Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri) opened up about the burgeoning love triangle forming between his Port Charles alter-go, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) after recently aired scenes, plus his hopes for the future of a Dante and Liz pairing, during his appearance on the Sunday, April 23 edition of the That’s Awesome podcast with Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli).

On last week’s episodes of GH, Ric has made the decision that he wanted to propose to his ex-wife, only when he showed up at Elizabeth’s front door, he misread the scenario he walked in with Liz tending to Dante’s injured leg from the softball game. From there, the legal eagle’s jealous streak is reemerging which may cause him to act out and do something unforgivable, or will he take the high road? Stay tuned.

Speaking with Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson about where Elizabeth stands in the annals of the long-running soap, Zamprogna said, “She’s up there with Steve and Maurice (Maurice Benard) as one of the most legacy-filled people on the show.”

HOW DANTE AND ELIZABETH CAME ABOUT

Dominic jokes it’s a far cry for where Dante and Elizabeth previously, recalling, “We had some scenes together years ago and we were both laughing. Becky’s like, ‘Well, I guess we’re not going be paired up anytime soon.’ I remember we laughed immediately after they yelled ‘cut,”‘and said to each other, ‘Well, so much for that!'”

Fast-forward to early 2025 and as Zamprogna remembered it, “Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) came up to me at the General Hospital Christmas party, and I think it was a year and a half ago and she said, ‘We’re going to have you in scenes with Elizabeth,’ My internal monologue is going, ‘I’m not with Lulu (Alexa Havins) anymore and Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) gone, so maybe they want to see if this works.’ I didn’t want to get scenes with Becky and try to find the chemistry. I just wanted to play whatever honestly was written and came across for both of us and hope it was what people liked, and I don’t know if it is … or not.”

Knowing how beloved Elizabeth is to the GH faithfuls, Zamprogna added, “She got a big fan base with Ric … and a big fan base with with Jason … and you know, you’re going to piss somebody off. But, didn’t Ric drug Elizabeth and put Carly in a panic room?”

DANTE AND ELIZABETH PAIRING COULD STIR UP STORY FOR OTHERS IN PORT CHARLES

In closing, Dominic felt that the wide-reaching tentacles of a Dante and Elizabeth relationship is something he is 100% down for. “The triangle thing; I was happy to hear it was with Ric and her, because I felt it’s important to have her the top of it as opposed to Dante, Lulu and Elizabeth.”

Zamprogna added, “When you get into relationships on a soap, things seem to fizzle out a little bit, The buildup is what’s the fun part, and the getting to know each other, and the people who are affected by this coming together. When with this case it’s going to affect: Ric, Sonny, Lulu. There’s so much more story here. To me, it’s going to be a fun story to play.”

GH and OLTL Alum Patrick J. Gibbons Reveals the Story Behind Writing Trina’s Song on ‘General Hospital’ (Exclusive)

Patrick J. Gibbons

At the conclusion of today’s August 21 episode of General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) sings a lullaby to baby Dez, that went into a montage to close out the episode as her father Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) reports to Pentonville and winds up in his jail cell.

However, in a fun fact, the song entitled, “A Lonely Heart To Give” was actually written by none other than former One Life to Live and General Hospital actor, Patrick J. Gibbons.

Daytime fans first met Gibbons as Sam Manning on One Life to Live. At the time, when he started on the soap, he was just 5-years-old. Gibbons played the part from 2010-2013 on ABC and Prospect Park’s editions of the show. Fast-forward to 2018, Gibbons shows up on General Hospital as Wyatt Hoover, the scout who seemed always be injured, but in the thick of the drama. Patrick had appeared on GH multiple times as Wyatt including: 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER’S DEATH CAME THE INSPIRATION FOR HIS SONG

Now in 2026, General Hospital fans are getting to learn about another side of Gibbons’ talent as a songwriter and guitar player after “A Lonely Heart to Give” debuted today! Michael Fairman TV caught up with Patrick, who is now a senior at Penn State entering his final year as a finance major, to get the back-story of how his song wound up on GH!

Gibbons explained he wrote the song in honor of his grandmother who passed away a few years ago with whom he was, very, very close with. “Randomly, my grandmother had a downfall and passed away during the second semester of my sophomore year. I was in my dorm a lot and I was just playing with my guitar. And at the time, I was really into finger-style playing. I wrote the lyric and music to it (with a little help from my guitar teacher Lou), and my mom showed the rough demo to Frank Valentini (EP, General Hospital). He’s like an uncle to me. Frank loved it so much he said, “Finish that up. I want to hear the whole thing, and I want it on the show.”

MAKING MUSIC FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL

Gibbons and his parents took the next steps! “So now, all we needed was a female voice, because I thought that would fit the song well,” Patrick shared. “At the golf club we go to my parents were at a dinner. They liked the singer that was performing and spoke to her about the song, and she says she would like to bring it to her ‘boss’ who ended up being Eric Bazilian of the Hooters fame!” (Bazilian also wrote the smash hit song “One of Us” for Joan Osborne).

Next, “We went in the studio and recorded it and the song came together and it was beautiful. We loved it. They loved it at General Hospital and now they’re putting it the show and they are coming in with a piano, instead of a guitar. Paul Glass, the GH musical director, has been keeping us updated over the last six months of how it was coming along, and when it would air, and how GH put their own arrangement to it. I can’t wait to see and hear what they did with it.”

PATRICK’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE FAMILY

Everyone knows that the One Life to Live extended family share a very tight bond, and Patrick said he does stay in touch with a few of his former One Life to Live co-stars, especially those from the Manning family! “I stayed in touch with Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair) and sent her little videos here and there. She was like my second mom for five years. We keep in contact with Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr) over X the most, and she can’t believe how big I’ve gotten. Like, none of them can! (laughs). I also loved working with Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) and Trevor St. John (ex-Todd and Victor Jr.), and to me since I was so young, they were just my friends, ‘Roger and Trevor,’ not Todd Manning or Victor Jr.”

It was a trip to California and a visit to Port Charles that ultimately led to Gibbons second soap role of Wyatt Hoover. Patrick explains, “In 2016, Frank Valentini invited us out to Los Angeles to visit the set of General Hospital. I think he heard me say, ‘This is so much fun. I miss being on the set.’ He goes, ‘You should come out. I’ll bring you on the show. We can make you a character.'”

A few years later, Patrick’s dream became a reality! “Then, by the summer of 2018, I was playing Wyatt, the scout, and shared scenes with Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and the best was when I shared a scene with Roger Howarth and Michael Easton (ex-John, OLTL and ex-Silas, Finn et al, GH), it was like chemistry from the old days.”

IT’S ALL IN THE NUMBERS

As to his future aspirations, it’s a career in the finance game that has piqued Gibbons’ real-life interest. But never say never to a return to acting. Patrick explained, “I’ve always enjoyed numbers. And on top of that, one of the biggest parts of finance is being personable and outgoing.”

He continued, “That’s one of the greatest skills I developed growing up. I really love the markets. I’m super interested. I’m never going to close the door to acting. I’m always open to that because I just love it so much. It’s such a great art.”

Take note! If there are any investment bankers or private equity folks among the GH faithful looking for a young analyst next year, Patrick’s DMs are open. You can find him on X at @PatrickJGibbons.

So, what did you think of the song sung by Trina on today’s GH that was written by Patrick J. Gibbons? Did you enjoy Patrick’s performances as One Life’s Sam and GH’s Wyatt? Would you like to see him back on GH at some point? Let us know via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Admits That He Didn’t Expect the Role of Michael Corinthos to be Recast, and Would Consider Working on Another Soap (Exclusive)

Published

Chad Duell, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor, who stepped away from the pivotal role of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, opened up about: his previous decision to leave the series after nearly 15 years, where’s he’s at now after time away from the demands of a daytime soap opera, and took a stroll down memory lane with some of Michael’s most-acclaimed storyline during his run, during a livestream chat on August 19 on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.

Viewers last saw Duell on-screen as Michael in January of 2025, and with his successor in the role, Rory Gibson making his debut at the GH Nurses’ Ball in episodes that aired later in May. It was clear that during the conversation, Chad was a bit surprised that the GH brass decided to recast him when he thought he was just taking some much needed time off.

Burn-out of the daily grind of being on a soap was definitely a part of Chad’s decision to take a break. Duell explained “People know when you’re doing something for so long or your character is kind of in the same place for so long or doing the same stuff over and over again, you do get a a little burnt out, you get a little stiff, stale, a little stiff at times. I didn’t want that to be any sort of lasting impression. I have 15 years of a body of work of I’ve done on that show, which is fantastic.”

WHILE CHAD WAS AWAY GH RECAST MICHAEL CORINTHOS WITH RORY GIBSON

Chad shared, his mindset when leaving GH was, “I’m taking some time away, we’ll see what happens.” Then he added, “Obviously, they decided to go in a different direction with Michael when I was gone. I didn’t think they were going to bring somebody back in my place. But you know, it’s the business. You never know what can happen.”

Duell also shared he has not watched a single episode of General Hospital since he left the series, but now feels he reenergized following the loss of his father and stepping away from the GH, “I’m in a place now mentally, where I’m ready to sink my teeth into it again.”

Even though he is no longer Michael on GH, Chad was very happy with his final storyline where Michael was set on fire when a bomb exploded at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse. “It was fun to put him in a dangerous situation, because I was wanting Michael to be in something scary instead of trying to be a hero character or just things happening around him, but to be the center point of tragedy happening to him. (I always saw) Michael as the heart of the (Corinthos) family.”

When Michael was badly burned the show chose not burn his face, which normally a soap does when they are recasting role and switching actors. Chad weighed-in, “They didn’t burn my face because I told Frank Valentini (EP, GH) I’m willing to come back. It was just a little bit of a break. So, I assumed that if they would have burned my face, they could have brought somebody back looking different than me… if that’s what their plan was.”

MEMORABLE MICHAEL STORYLINES

One of Chad’s most memorable performances was the in the storyline of Michael’s rape while he was sentenced to prison in 2010 and the confession of it in 2011. “It was so well-written and I was very nervous,” recalled Chad. “When I get really nervous about something, it ends up being really good when I do it, because it just means I care a lot about it”

“I have to put a lot of effort and work into it, and I really want it to be good.  I was working with Dominic  Zamprogna (Dante) and Steve Burton (Jason) a lot during those scenes, and Laura Wright (Carly). It was great working with Steve and Dominic, especially, during that storyline.

A NEW SOAP ROLE FOR CHAD?

As to a future soap opera role, Chad is open to the idea and would love to jump back in to a juicy role, “I know people over at The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. They know that if they’re interested, I would love to come in for a screen test or something, and they can see what I’m doing.”

Meanwhile, Chad has been busy putting out new music under the moniker Duelly and during the interview he explains how he creates his EDM tracks and much more. You can stream his latest single, Static in the Quiet Room on Spotify, Apple Music and You Tube Music.

You can check out the full conversation with Chad Duell below.
