GENERAL HOSPITAL: Mac Is Named Police Commissioner In Port Charles; But They Say It’s Temporary

By Michael Fairman

In a cool move, the powers-that-be at ABC’s General Hospital, had Laura (Genie Francis), the now mayor of Port Charles, name none other than former commish, Mac Scorpio (John J, York) as interim police commissioner while Jordan (Brian Nicole Henry) recovers from her kidney transplant and needs some time to recover from her medical ordeal.

Now while the show is making sure in story it is stated that Mac is the temporary person in charge of the PCPD, for many longtime fans of the series, they remember fondly when Mac held down the position for years.

In the current issue of Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now, York said on the surprise story turn: “I was thrilled when Frank Valentini (EP, GH) told me!” He added that he was advised there was great story coming up, and added, “That’s fantastic! I can’t wait to see what is going on.  However long it lasts, I’ll take whatever I can get and I’m really looking forward to being back in there.  There is a whole nee squad. a whole new group of people. I don’t even know who these cops are anymore!”

Shortly after being named commissioner on Monday’s episode of the ABC daytime drama series, Mac is already getting wind of some criminal activities and things that seem way off; from Lulu’s (Emme Rylan) new assignment with The Intruder, to his brother Robert (Tristan Rogers), being pushed out of the WSB and forced to retire, and much more.   Can Mac get the police department to solve some crimes ..> for once?

So, what do you think of John J. York getting to be back in action at the PCPD? Do you hope somehow the story turns and remains in the position even after Jordan is well, or are you hoping Jordan can get back into the swing of things fast and return to her job? As Felicia said a few weeks ago, “the Scorpio Brothers Ride Again!”

Jordan will have some conflict if it comes out in public what Curtis’ role was in the kidney-napping. Perhaps this delays or cancels her return as commissioner.

I like the character of Jordan, and BNH has totally claimed the role. However, something needs to be done to spice up her character a bit.

As for Mac, and JJY, it’s finally his turn to be a vet of focus. Hopefully the writers saw how JL mesmerized in every scene, once he was treated as a lead, and will give that same opportunity to JJY.

Always been a lead!

Love Mac. Love Felicia. Miss Frisco. Of course, Mac & Felicia were on to prop up “The Boyfriend.” We needed to see “Bootleg Juilliard” celebrate his birthday? Who cares? Useless character, horrible actor.

Mac is what they need!

I love Mac (and John J. York) and I love seeing him back in action. What concerns me is pushing Jordan aside if he remains in the position. If Briana is leaving it would make sense to me. But other than being the Commissioner, what other storyline have they given her. Of course, what story have they given to John in recent years? It would be wonderful if they could give them BOTH something to do without pushing one or the other off screen.

GH FINALLY gets it! WE want the veterans on our screens and not the Amys, Valentins, Peters, Jordans, Stellas, DOD crap and the new god awful Valerie!

YES, Timmm. Who is in charge of hiring recasts, and Bootlegs from Juilliard? Valerie is awful. Jordan, as boring as can be, and Peter, unwatchable.

Robert was commish when I was a kid. When his character announced he’d been forced into WSB retirement I thought Hmmmm for a second.

Robert (Tristan Rogers) has NOT lost his mojo; he’s always working it. Come back home, Robert, and work with your “little brother,” with Laura the Mayor (remember when you and she went on a date during “classic GH?), Anna (so good with Finola), all ALL the cast. You’re at home there, and your acting skills are primo, of course! GH needs your moxie, good-natured sarcasm, and your well-honed wit. Always has!

For Mac’s sake, well I hope soooo, cuz he is the best ever

Mac needs to get things right in PC. Jordan can be a “Special Advisor” or something. I took a break from GH when Genie was fired, but when Vinessa was playing Jordan, the incompetence was laughable. It’s fine that Sonny/Jason always win, but it was just played so poorly. Mac needs to bring accountability and competence back. Hopefully Frank/Shelley (for now)/Chris can write it properly.

YEs!

Why temporary? Mac is a natural as the police commissioner. It’s good to see him again–he’s aged beautifully and yet still seems youthful.

I so agree, Harry! And don’t you think Robert should work with Mac, his little brother?

Mac is back!

Happy to see Mac back. Sorry to say, but I wouldn’t miss Jordan and Curtis if they exited Pt. Charles.

Yes, Please let him be the PERMANENT commissioner; Jordan can continue to work also but with a reduced load–since she just had a kidney transplant. And PLEASE let Robert work with him; Tristan needs a CONTRACT; after all, he is free from the WSB since they forced his retirement. Come on home, Tristan and “Robert.” Just seeing his face and hearing that distinctive voice is a joy! Love him–and he makes one sit up and listen–he “commmands” attentions. And did I say he is a great and fun actor and character?!
I’d love to see Laura interact with him (it would seem like “old times”). BTW, Laura and Kevin were great together today as he was getting his job back and they were talking about celebrating at home with champagne and pizza! What a fun team–and they LOVE each other–how refreshing is that? And did I say they are also two great actors who obviously have fun working together? More scenes with them together, PLEASE!

Robert, Anna, Robin and bring back Patrick and sign them all to a contract! Hell, if they wont bring the Q’s back, let the Scorpios shine!

Leave Mac as the commissioner. This way, we might get to see more of the vets like him and Felicia, and Lucy, and Robert. Yes, we do need the new generation to carry stories but I think I speak for many of us older folk that we need our vets too. They were the ones we idolized back in the day and even though they don’t get the juicy stories they did when they were younger, just knowing they’re still around gives us comfort because we still love them no matter what.

Like I said! Robert, Mac, Felicia (doesn’t she look GREAT?), etc!

I’m glad you saw how gorgeous Felicia looks. Talk about someone who doesn’t age. I liken on the menfolk, Wally kurth NED.

GH has become staler and more stupid.

The Oliver stuff is dull boring filler; nothing but empty.
It’s become dumbcrap.

Carly and baby is ho-hum and the once fiery Chorinthois family has been reduced to empty can state.

Lulu and her dingbat stuff make a brain bleed- as does Maxie’s nonsense.
They are true valley girl mall rats, for sure.
I wait for them to giggly yell; AWESOME-SAUCE ! !!

The cult stuff is Lame ..

Scorpio finally got canned and so should Anna..
they are elders, grandparents of a teenager, and to mention-
The FBI-CIA-Military-etc do Not take you if you are over 36yrs of age; that is the line of age 36, unless expertise on desk duty and they are very few.
Military 5 star leaders are grandfathered-in until they leave or die but not field combat active.

thing is– GH needs to clean house and bring in New YOUNG writers.
if not GH will have 3 years left.
There is not one, not one, story of excitement, drama, of intriguing WOW factor.
It’s like watching hair grow on a statue..

(remember the GH of the 80-90(I was told)
Blew the roof off with excitement, it was a bomb!!
Now, it’s a lullaby .

HEy su, bite that (sharp) tongue! 🙂 Robert Scorpio (what a great name, don’t you agree?) has NOT been canned–he was just on. Anna is great with Robert–and will return after summer vacation. And Scorpio does NOT sing lullabies! (But, I’m sure he COULD–and I’d listen. In fact, I’d listen to him read the menu or the rap sheets or the hospital charts. That man can ACT.). And he’s available to work with his “little” brother, Mac! He’s not getting older; he’s getting better! Come on, su! Join us in welcoming Robert back to GH PERMANENTLY! Will you?

Love it! I remember when he lost his job and Anna took over. After 21 years at GH he was taken off contract. It’s nice that he has this opportunity! It’s almost like traveling back in time.

I’m traveling with you; my bags are packed!

Big Mac’ is IN the “house” AND staying power!!!! LOVING IT… w/Felicia by his side MORE

@Frank, Shelly, Chris – this is an – EASY – let for fans of ole’. JUST showcase … feature… SHARE the screen w/your obvious stagnant

he’s sure Rockin’ the salt and pepper.. and damn good about it… add in the “beard” and he’s relevant… his act does all the rest

Bravo, Patrick! Like I said!

Now, on Mac I like the beard!

Sorry to disagree with you, Violet, but I just wrote a post stating that Mac’s facial fuzz doesn’t work for me….even though it is neatly kept, it conceals his ageless face too much for my druthers! Why mess with perfection????

Yea for the return of Mac. And hopefully Robert as his unofficial sidekick. But I do hope they can find something for Jordan. I like her and Curtis on GH. Maybe they can be a investigative team like Sam and Jason?

can I beam… smile broader any MORE ? GIDDY and my first thought is of MORE Felicia

she’s so stunning… case in point… @well this is boring… @floating rib… for ugh Peter b-day. Kristina Wagner’ Hair… she’s almost flawless. I immediately thought.. WOAH – her mane is BETTER THAN CARLY ! ugh – who’s always playing flipping tossing hers.

well they did bring up during… that he was hired as Commish. love how he lit in to Peter that he had second thoughts on his character.. being with Maxie.. because of Momma Smurph Lulu internet dating spy ring. ugh her Barbie sugar ditz had me clawing gouging out my eyes. ???? and she had the gall or whatever telling Sonny how much she missed ??? being with a man? did I hear that? oh god. I wonder if @suOOOO is correct on that guy from OLTL COULD BE the nuDANTE .

Ingo Rademacher’ Jax : he’s this international global corporate mogul. yet he kowtowed to Laura.. so she had to screech about CRIMSON putting Ava on the cover . Jax wanted to give her a heads up? what the hell for ? he doesn’t OWE her one effin’ thing. so what that they share a daughter. then they have him asking Laura.. tell me about this Valentin. watching these two have drinks @METRO. side by side… oh it was tantalize.. YET let me tell you JAX. back up… you’ve got near nada next to Valentin FULL stature.
PLUS PLUS PLUS… I think Cynthia Watros’ is still breaking in her WINGS.. BUT … oh was the fire and intensity their with James Patrick Stuart… oh does Valentin do it.. as they leaned in to kiss. ALL that is taken care of. she and Charlotte do resemble each other some. why not

back to Jax: as he lit in to Ava.. about how he helped Connie start Crimson.. and that Ava murdered his friend !!!! ????

you’ve got Jax stirring up all over the place. let’s see some vulnerability? or as Cynthia Watros see Jax.. as this knight in shining armor… well.. he’s always “lost” to Sonny… ugh still? oye.. that’s a laugh out loud thought. it’s my thought that if Valentin is a game player… he’s always coming from behind… ie: think still fighting to WIN Nina … ALL of Port Charles against him… @GH Writers have never really given him a WIN with any character.. outside of “murdering” Nicholas. so… if this is all one sided for Jax.. besting Valentin.. then this could become stale , even with Jax, quickly. it’s not like Jax is this big mystery… hopefully Curtis does in fact find some dirt… argh doesn’t seem possible. lets not have all the cards stacked against his nemesis from the onset. less is more on Jax placing his chips all over town. but, like I said… as long as he’s not a stoolie to Sonnny AND just a propped character to SUPPORT they dullard clan, and that includes Joss, Carly, Sonny, Michael.

LOL I actually enjoyed Nelle AND Ryan rapport !?!? LOL keep the “EDGE” coming… Jon Lindstrom is fine

oh god… PlEASE make Finn, Franco, Peter GO AWAY

“what do you say, Charlie? want to make a family?” “this is the best thing that’s ever happened to me”

Julian – AND – Kim. I’ve always thought… why risk having just one child.. got to have minimum two. this is high yield… as was previewed… who will Kim say yes to etc… when she’s given a ring by either or ? Julian AND Drew. I sure wish Drew was more animated. when someone has to “talk” with him… he seems to wander off and stares off in to “nowhere”. what is this “acting” requirement

nevertheless.. when Drew and Kim were at Kilimanjaro… I was so taken by her out of body experience … when she was back at the hotel after letting Oscar go. as she thought she was talking to Oscar, yet it was Drew. chilling

AND when Drew was sharing with margo how he didn’t know what to do ?

I just hope we start seeing some transformation… for Billy Miller

because with all this talent on the docket… let’s get it

ie: Laura Wright’ Carly – is any one the least bit interested in Carly plight? of course this was all done to showcase any sensitivity for Carly character.. to give her more realism… HEY

they even have a new kitchen to showcase that more familial vibe… I aint having it

especially after watching Sonny in apron… putting together a healthy meal for Carly… as Kristina looked on… as he nurtured Kristina thru her mind bend from day of dawn

to this day… she still doing it alone… all her appointments… till she finally shared with Sam… that her baby could have ??? abnormality? any way you get it.. she’s an old gal. how could @writers bring any thing new to get any sympathy or care for Carly. she’s loud … SHE”S LOUD… she’s indifferent… who cares any more ? not one character in all of Port Charles… SEEKS the Corinthos’ OUT. what’s the point ???? unless @GH is too cheap to give Carly ANY character … she’s got to be shown with Bobbi… AND THATS THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS FOR Laura Wright. otherwise… they are working way too much in overdrive.. to shove these characters front and center… THEY ARE BORING

don’t even get me started on watching Michael go man to man with Shiloh. telling him he bought day of dawn to become a womans shelter.. how the Q’s could have bought the whole block. Michael lacks so much character with no personality. but he’s the most decent person Carly knows. whoop de do

it just gnaws @: that Drew continues to share… that he wouldn’t change the last 5 years for any thing… hence… he’s got that memory card/chip in his safe. ???? huh

blech ! don’t make me vomit! Sam never really ; loved that much.. even with his child… Scout. END OF STORY !!!

so now….he’s lost his eldest child. there goes that lifeline.

??? what does Drew truly have.. to hang on to?

Did any one else.. see that “nurse” black short hair… seem to be listening in on Drew and Margo about thee memory chip? however, Shiloh factors in… which was interesting when Shiloh first happened. it would have been fun to see Drew actually form and build a friendship… his and Curtis seem so polite.

I might be imagining thee “nurse”

evenso… unless Shiloh is dishing out more… than deceiving followers out of $50,000 dollars in cash; plus

I just don’t see how mixing in Drew and Shiloh past with said memory card will mean much ado about ?

this story didn’t have a chance … and it’s too bad because Shiloh, the actor… has lots of shade … character… and well… come hither… which if we follow the story anyway… the “assault” on Sam blew this all up.

Drew ?!?! where are you ? I am hoping for a huge payoff surprise then… AND that his memory return will be

just to give Billy Miller back to us… with a whole new arsenal

help

Oh Patrick,
As the song goes, where do I begin?
#1 I do like Felicia and Mac
2 Not too crazy about their daughter
3 I like Cynthia Watros, but not seeing any chemistry between she and Valentin. As Celia said, she looks a little old for him, more like a sister.
4 Everything you said about Lulu, but I wish Sonny had told her to get a blow-up doll!
5 I had hoped maybe Drew and Kim might get together, but now it looks like he may be leaving GH.
6 Love Jax and his contempt of Ava. Maybe he can do what the law has yet to do, to pay for her crimes.
7 Agree, the Corinthos are boring, Sonny and Cher, I mean Carly, but I have always liked Michael. He’s had a hard time growing up. Look how many parents have led him to where he is now.He does like to brag of his importance, his money and family.
8 I like the new kitchen though. Maybe they could spread a little straw on the floor, making it easier for Carly to walk on, in her bare feet.
9 I like the idea of Nelle escaping to kidnap Wylie, before the creep Shiloh does.
Keep smiling Patrick, looks good on you.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

on

By

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
