Need to Know

  • General Hospital’s Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) chats with Michael Fairman live on Thursday, February 26 at 7pm ET/4pm PT.
  • Benard is serving up a special episode on Sunday, March 1 of his mental health series State of Mind where for his 63rd birthday, his on-screen son Dominic Zamprogna (Dante, GH) interviews him!
  • The three-time Daytime Emmy winner has a new GH love interest in ADA Turner played by Nazneen Contractor, Maurice discusses his new leading lady, GH co-stars and the success of State of Mind during his visit on the Michael Fairman Channel. Fans can ask questions in the live chat.

Three-time Daytime Emmy winning star, Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos, General Hospital) on-screen is embarking on a new romance with ADA Justin Turner played by Nazneen Contractor. But the question is, are her feelings genuine for the mobster given her standing as a prosecuting attorney of the law, or are his? If so, how can they move forward with any type of relationship given their professional histories?

Meanwhile, off-screen this weekend, Maurice is celebrating his birthday on Sunday with a very special edition of his You Tube mental health series State of Mind, and is serving up a special episode where his co-star and TV son, Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri, GH) turns the tables and puts Maurice in the guest hot seat of his own show for an enlightening and emotional episode.

Ahead of the big weekend premiere, Maurice is the special guest when he visits the Michael Fairman Channel for a livestream chat on Thursday, February 26 beginning at 7 pm ET/4pm PT, where we will not only discuss the life of Sonny Corinthos, his GH co-stars, and his new love interest, but how Maurice’s personal struggles with bipolar disorder, the changing mental health landscape, his advocacy work and more, led him to continue his series which has featured the top talent in daytime drama opening up to him in the most unexpected ways.

Recently, Benard shared with Soap Opera Digest his thoughts on working with Nazneen Contractor, when he said, “I’m into ADA Turner. It’s been really cool. She’s a really good actress, and it works on every level for me.” He added, “When I’m in a scene with her, I’m not questioning (her abilities], plus she’s the perfect height. Not that that matters all that much, but she is!” All in all, “It just feels right.”

Throughout the years, Maurice has been paired with several memorable leading ladies from Sarah Brown (ex-Carly) to Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda) to Laura Wright (the current Carly) to Cynthia Watros (Nina) and more. But, his leading lady at home is his wife Paula Benard with whom he has been married to for over 35 years.

Below in an exclusive clip for Sunday’s special State of Mind, Maurice reflects on the spiritual questions that have followed him through every hardship expressing, “Every time that I’ve gone through something, I always ask God, why? Why Again? I’ve told you this. I mean, how many more times do I have to go through things? But I believe that he wanted me to suffer, and he wants me to suffer, to prevent other people from suffering.” Maurice suggests that the pain he’s endured ultimately serves a greater purpose, helping others feel less alone in their own battles,”

Make sure to join us in the live chat with your questions and comments. If you cannot be with us live, but have a question for Maurice you would like posed to him during the livestream, drop it in the comment section below and we just might ask during the broadcast.

Now let us know, are you down with a Sonny and Justine romance? Who has been your favorite all-time pairing with Sonny? Of all of Maurice’s episodes of “State of Mind,” which impacted you the most? Share your thoughts on that in the comment section as well

This week on all-new episodes of General Hospital, new and old motivations come into play with dangerous consequences. According to the just released GH video spoilers video for the week of August 3-7, a bailiff calls out, “All rise!”

Now it’s Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) vs. Curtis (Donnell Turner), as the surgeon is suing the owner of the Savoy for assault that ruined is ability to operate. At the end of the day, which of these men has enough evidence against the other? Portia (Brook Kerr) is by Isaiah’s side, while Jordan (Tanisha Harper) is with Curtis.

Next, Lucy (Lynn Herring) has a plan to get the controlling shares of Deception away from Michael (Rory Gibson). She wants her daughter, Serena (Kelly Kruger) to seduce Michael. She tells her, “Pick out your most seductive suit.” Soon, we see Serena in her bathing suit at the Metro Court face to face with Michael.

Later, there is a small baggie containing three blue pills. Nina (Cynthia Watros) ask Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), “What did you do?” We also see Michael asking the same thing of Jacinda (Paige Herschell). Leading into this week, viewers know that Willow doesn’t want the former escort anywhere near her children, Amelia and Wiley. Is this how she stops her, or is Jacinda up to old tricks and wants to frame Willow? Remember when Jacindsa drugged Drew (Cameron Mathison)? Stay tuned.

Finally, in the pick-up from last Friday’s cliffhanger, an emotional Jason (Steve Burton) continues to tell Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he cannot work for him anymore. Sonny ask, “So that’s it? You’re Out?” We fade to black.

Take a look at the official GH spoilers for the week below.

MONDAY, AUGUST 3

TUESDAY, AUGUST 4
Brook Lynn and Chase celebrate a milestone. Trina gets an earful. Carly’s plan backfires. Curtis is skeptical. Michael is anxious about his family’s’ future.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 5

THURSDAY, AUGUST 6
Sonny makes a stunning announcement. Serena makes her move. Willow faces a new threat. Isaiah takes the stand. Lucy questions Laura.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 7
Josslyn is taken aback. Ava courts a new ally. Jordan and Anna catch up. Isaiah vents to Lucas and Elizabeth. Michael questions Jacinda.

Check out the latest ABC promo for General Hospital entitled, “What Did You Do?” below.

Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.

The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.

As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.

PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL

Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)

According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”

Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.

Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.

In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.

Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
