General Hospital
GENERAL HOSPITAL: Nicholas Alexander Chavez Delivers Emotional Turn as Spencer’s Party Goes South
On Wednesday’s episode of General Hospital, the story at Wyndemere continued. After Nikolas (Marcus Coloma) was revealed to be the masked “assailant” with a fake knife “stabbing” his son, Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez), confrontations arose.
At the epicenter was newcomer, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who has stepped into the role of the entitled and troubled teen-aged Cassadine. In the story, his father, Nikolas, wanted to make his son “pay” for scaring Ava (Maura West) and stalking her. However, now that someone set fire to Ava’s car everyone believes the stalker could not have been Spencer.

Courtesy/ABC
Laura (Genie Francis) and Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) are also Wyndemere … and Laura is very upset at the way her son is dishing it out to her grandson.
When Nikolas explains the reasons for actions to Spencer, an emotional Spencer says, “You decided to evoke my mother (in reference to the late Courtney Matthews), to manipulate me, to tell me to be the man that she would want me to be. Just because you decided that I’m guilty.”
Next, Nikolas apologizes to his son for pushing him emotionally hard, and that prompts Spencer to tell his father to not call him his son, shouting “Do not call me that! And don’t claim to love me.” At that point, Spencer exits with Trina (Sydney Mikayla) behind him, and Laura ready to tell Nikolas the error of his ways on how he is handling the trouble with his son.
It’s always nice to see when a young actor on daytime gets handed on the ball and delivers, and in the case of Chavez he did just that bringing up Spencer’s inner turmoil and pain. Let’s remember he lost his mother, and his father pretended to be dead for three years in which he grieved. Yes, Spencer is spoiled, but it will be intriguing to see just how the GH writers decide to mine the character moving forward with Chavez.
The scenes in the episode with Chavez along with Marcus Coloma, and Genie Francis reminded us all that Cassadine family drama can always tug at the heart.
So, what did you think of Nicholas’ performance? What did you think of what Nikolas Cassadine perpetrated on his son, Spencer? Share your thoughts and theories in the comment section below.
Dear God! How will Nicolas get out of this one? Oh, yeah, when they discover that that brunette nurse at GH that kept spying on Ava is in cahoots with Spencer. Could they be more obvious? And then what will that mean for Spencer when he is finally found out? Tons of therapy or permanently damaged?
I agree, though, that NAC gave a stunning performance as a betrayed Spencer!
He played his part well. But please bring Ava and Nicholas back together. They need some happiness in there lives.
Well the obvious question now is who torched Ava’s car. The new psycho nurse walking around the hospital is the obvious suspect, but who does she work for?
Did Spencer hire her, knowing he would have the party as an alibi? Or is there actually somebody stalking Ava, other than Spencer. And in typical GH fashion, would this person have any connection to whomever killed Hayden’s mama, or whomever is holding NuDrew prisoner?
And where do they find these psycho nurses so easily?? Do they all work for the same “Psycho Nurses R Us” employment agency?
Oh boy, Satan, now we have Esme, Spencer’s “girlfriend”, another repulsive schemer. Poor Trina, left in a painful and embarrassing moment again. She needs to cut Spencer loose NOW. The nuDrew story doesn’t interest me, except for that handsome jailer. And how do these “Psycho Nurses R Us” (well said!) perform these dastardly deeds? Can one gather the materials, go to the parking garage (probably ACRES wide), find Ava’s car, torch it, clean up, AND get coffee on a 15 minute break?
I don’t think Spencer had anything to with Ava’s car been set on fire because i don’t think he would intentionally endanger someone’s life because someone could have gotten hurt by Ava’s car been put on fire.Plus i don’ think Spencer has any reason now to continue stalking Ava because Ava is no longer with Nikolas. However i do think new psycho nurse is responsible for Ava’s car been put on fire but i’m betting she’s working with someone. For example she’s working with Ryan and i wonder if Spencer’s redemption shown the line will be that he saves Ava from Ryan.
WOW!! That’s a very shrewd assumption. It would also be so ironic—-the baddie becomes the savior. I would make the writers look like literary geniuses.
I also like your idea that Esme may be working with Ryan—-kudos!!
What if Esme was Ryan’s daughter? Wouldn’t be able to guess who her mother would be, but if she was with Ryan, she would probably be dead now.
She didn’t seem to have any reaction to meeting Kevin, nor did he seem to recognize her, and presumably he kept track of Ryan during all those years when everybody else in Port Charles assumed his crazy brother was dead, so he should know if Ryan fathered any children during that time.
Certainly would explain her obvious psycho tendencies though.
Makes sense—if Esme were Ryan’s daughter, every sinister act toward Ava would fall into place.
I wonder why this mentally distirted malady escaped Kevin?
Now, you got my mind working overtime—-What if Kevin is really Ryan with a hand implant. Where’d did he get the hand, you ask? Chopped it off Kevin. Ryan has a few minions in “storage”.
Ok, ok—I can hear you laughing at me …with scorn, I may add. LOL.
And, yes!! If Ryan were to have fathered Esme, the mother would have died by Ryan’s hand–HaHa–pardon the pun.
He was brilliant! What a fantastic recast as NUSpencer.
Nicholas Chavez is a great young talent.
Fab job to casting by Mark Teschner and team.
Spencer’s deeply wounded side came so out so organically by Nicholas Chavez and it proves that he is handling the role of Spencer with such ease. He’s a gem. He’s got this and it has been a joy to watch him from the start.
I totally agree with what you said. His got the looks too.
I agree that his performance here was very good. But I never had any objections to his talent. He just seems too old for the group he’s supposed to be peers with. Yes he can act, he’s cute, has great hair… but I don’t see any chemistry with wonderful Trina either. She deserves more. Spencer would be great pals with Nelle. Of course, they’d have to rewrite the book of unholy alliances.
Soaphound,
You said it best, and sure he’s a good actor but with most of us as with nuDrew, it’s not the same. Gosh, if I was married to the same man for twenty years or so, I sure am not going to want someone else turning up in my bed or where ever telling me he’s going to be my husband now in every way but looks (through, you never know, I might like the new one better, right ha.) I don’t know why some people can’t understand this.
Back to Spencer, his girlfriend’s a piece of work, but where did Kiki’s nametag come from?
I swear, Violet, if this Esme turns out to be a secret twin of Kiki, I’m gonna implode!
LOL—more like a twin of Nelle. I wish Kiki could be resurrected.
I don’t like Spencer—not yet, anyway. I agree; he looks much older than the rest of his supposed contemporaries—and, he needs to work that chest, shoulders and arms—so puny. He is cute and he can definitely act—-needs to grow on me.
Speaking of puny—what’s going on with gorgeous Michael Knight? He looks emaciated—-and, he was limping.
As far as Drew? —I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to stomach Mathison in the role. Never liked him—-ever–since AMC.
He and Sam ( they will obviously reunite) can bore the heck out of each other and us.
Oh, no, Soaphound! Nelle is is the epitome of psycho! She’s an evil, deranged, unredeemable character who let her first fiance drown, left Michael trapped in a burning car, and, slit Brook Lynne’s throat! Spencer is troubled; he’s not evil and he’s not a murderer.
Spencer, even as a kid, was lost and vulnerable. Always in emotional pain and searching for the mother figure he never had; always overprotective of his father and always lashed out to get attention. He’s taken it to a new level as a young adult, but I seriously hope they don’t evolve him into a Helena or Stavros psycho Cassadine.
So, for now, as a troubled person I’m loving him with Trina. She’s such a great character and can get through to him, perhaps like no one else has been able to. Spencer does have a heart yearning for love…and they do have things in common. I’d like to see the writers explore them together which will probably happen after Esme predictably stalks Trina…
Pity party for Spencer—WOW!! The demon has a “demonette” accomplice. What the hey are these writers thinking? Utter chaos!! A father who stabs his kid with a fake knife, doing all sorts of stupid ghoulish Halloween, childish pranks—-consequently, scaring the heebie jeebies out of him? “C’mon, man!!” Bedlam all around……
Im with you Celia. That knife was WAAAAYY over the top. Talk about trauma. And this Esme, well, let’s reserve a space for her at Shadybrook NOW and save time later.
Hi Celia 🙂
Under U.S. federal law, someone commits the Felony of stalking if that person: places another person in reasonable fear of death or serious bodily injury.
and-
breaking and entry and other crimes.
Spenser terrorized Ava to give her child to another.
Spenser should be jailed, tried, imprisoned.
Absolutely—-my parents are both attorneys (criminal). My mother gets a good laugh when she happens to “catch” an episode or two—it’s a soap, SusieQ, yet an example shoud be set, even in soaps.
Esme will probably get away with arson.
I wasn’t sure about nuSpencer when he first came on the scene, but he’s definitely grown on me. I think
as the actor has become more comfortable, his acting has gotten better and better. Fantastic scenes between him and Nikolas at his party. Thrilled to see Cameron Matthison joining GH. Quite the coup! He’s an excellent actor and will bring a lot to the show, for sure.
Spencer deserved what Nicholas did to him. He is a spoiled brat and should be taught responsibility.
Agreed. But, I think Spenser should accept responsibility rather than being taught it to him, Linda. He’s too old —-even spoiled brats don’t cross so many lines. He belongs in jail.—-
—As does his she-devil girlfriend. She should know not to play with fire. Again, pardon the play-on-words.
I am enjoying him at first i thought wrong choice but hes very good on point with his emotions
I think the story line between father and son was carried too far. Getting along with his father will help Spencer calm down and not be so mischievous. He also lies and holds back truths so why alienate his father.
Spencer should have enough empathy; compassion..to know not to scare Ava regarding the safety of her child. It would be cruel and irresponsible enough if she hadn’t already lost one daughter, but knowing that and making her fear for Avery’s life?
Spencer only learns by experience; not by fireside chats. Nicolas knows how to deal with his son; Laura and Kevin should have butt out. The only problem I had with Nicolas was him scaring Spencer in front of others; scaring Trina. That was irresponsible and made him look bad. Should have scared the lil punk when he was alone. LOL; and I DO love Spencer. But he needs to feel the fear he’s imposing to understand. Unfortunately Esme the cray cray showed up and cut those feelings short.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI
FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
