General Hospital
GENERAL HOSPITAL: Nikolas Reveals Himself With Ava In Tow At Valentin and Nina’s Nuptials!
It was a great way to kick-off 2020 for General Hospital, with one of the most exciting cliffhangers we have seen in awhile, which when it picks-up next week will have major ramifications and emotional moments for so many at the wedding of Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) and Nina (Cynthia Watros).
The set-up to the soapy cliffhanger had Valentin, who just threw Ava (Maura West) off the balcony and overboard into the waters below, preparing for what he hopes is the happiest day of his life, especially now that Ava is “dead”. He mutters that he believes with her recent fragile mental state and her excessive drinking it will look like she attempted to kill herself, or just fell.
Meanwhile, Jax (Ingo Rademacher) is trying to talk some sense into Nina, in that she’s playing a dangerous game and Charlotte (Scarlett Fernandez) will end up paying the cost. He tells her to cut her losses before the ceremony and not to walk down that aisle However, Nina does walk down the aisle.
Martin (Michael E. Knight) is officiating, and Valentin has some words of undying love for his bride, which he speaks. Then, Nina says how happy he has made her and that to promise her that there will be no more secrets between them. Remember, she is armed with the fact that Valentin was behind the scheme that Sasha (Sofia Matteson) was her bio-daughter.
After Valentin says “I do”, Martin asks Nina, and she pauses. We don’t know what her answer was going to be as just then busting through the doors is none other than a soaked Nikolas (Marcus Coloma) with a passed out and drenched, Ava in his arms. Much to the shock of Valentin and Nikolas’ mother Laura (Genie Francis)! And we fade to black!
Do you think Nina was going to say “Yes” and get hitched to Valentin? Do you think this whole set-up was Ava and Nina’s plan? And, do you think with this save by Nikolas, means the start of the love story for Ava and Nik? What do you hope happens next? And, get ready for the big scenes when Laura comes face-to-face and sees her son alive! Monday can’t come soon enough! Comment below.
It was a proper ending to that show. Valentine angst needs to get pumped up for this story to continue to pop. V needs to do more dastardly things yo become the villain he was made out to be in the beginning. It would be great for Ava to become the wife of the prince and gain back her power. On a different note, Sonny and Carly are so tired as a plot.
I totally agree with everything you wrote.
And speaking of tired, Sam and Jason moaning about their troubles is beyond tired. Could they just go away please.
I totally bathed luxuriously in the delicious ending to Friday’s ep—-Royally!!
When Nikolas, in tatters, walks in like a chevalier holding a spent, seemingly moribund Ava in his arms as a trophy and with fiery vengeance in his eyes, completely melted me. What an opening to an end ( of Valentin)!!
Celia, what do you think of nuNicolas? He sure is cute.
Needs to work on giving more depth to the character–and they should be MORE scenes with his mother Laura (Genie Francis) after all this time of being “DEAD.” Come on, writers, plumb that story line for all it’s worth.
Loved it. I was soo happy to see this.
Celia,
So glad to see your posts again, I’ve missed your commentaries, though I don’t always agree, but we can’t agree with everyone all the time, right?
I sure have to be careful of what I say or Michael will let me know as he did with Shay and I after we got into too many off-topics. Hope you are well and everything is right in your world and I want to wish you a very Happy New Year. Looks like things will be looking up in PC. I am getting interested in Mike’s cousin and wonder what she’s really about. You know, I think they could do much more with Sonny, sans Carly. There may be hope there yet, and I do like Jax with Nina.
Jax was once a great character. He needs a deeper storyline. So great on screen.
I knew that the character of Nicholas and Valentin were going to be treated differently. Look at what’s occurring , now!
YES! Monotone Sam is BORING. All she does is cry & whine.
DMRR,
We would probably cry and whine too, BUT, Sam gets herself into all this self-destructiveness as she runs around in her constant bad-ass mode, thinking she can take everyone down, but only to cause more trouble. This new turn of events, life without Jason should make her character more interesting–I hope!
I agree.
Talk about tired plots? How about Ava always managing to escape her eternal destiny with a shovel and a trip to the dragon stables??
She’s been shot, burned, thrown off a bridge, thrown off a balcony, had supposedly incurable cancer, and yet she’s not in Hell yet.
Nobody’s that lucky.
True, but we love Ava 🙂
Not I. Neither the character nor the actor’s portrayal.
I love Ava ,too!
Finally, someone who agrees with me. “Not in Hell yet.”
At least you have one because I certainly don’t!
I found Sonny and Carly to be a tired plot over 15 years ago
I love Valentin ; so , I agree. However , I want the writers to be as lenient with his character as they are with Sonny , Carly, Jason, and Sam ; those characters have too much pull with the police department.
Michael what an amazing cliffhanger. I will say since Dan O Connor was promoted as Chris Van Ettens co head writer the show is a thrill ride. What a fantastic friday cliffhanger that left me wanting more. Cynthia Watros btw is coming into her own as Nina. Shes no longer trying to mimick Michelle but make the character her own. Dan is so fresh for the show. He starred in daytime as Ron’s assistant and is only 33 years old. One of the youngest head writers ever.
Agree with everything you said. Am eager to see the show every day now. Don’t even think of Michelle as Nina anymore. Cynthia Watros is Nina! Didn’t know Dan was Ron’s assistant.
I agree re Cynthia Waltros. As a more subtle actress, she is able to humanize and to give more depth to the character of Nina. More shades of gray in her acting.
The only thing i disliked was when Charlotte told Nina no one is prettier than her..ya Charlotte is a child and Nina is in a wedding dress but still i find that an insult to her mom Lulu..sometimes you must Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte!!!
Ha!! There’s the Jimmy I know!! Your humor still gets me, my friend!!
Great line, Jimh!
As far as I’m concerned, that’s Charlotte’s truth. Lulu seldom if ever thinks about what’s best for Charlotte.
There’s a lot of drama to be milked from the return of Nikolas. My only hope is that Carly/Sonny/JaSam have zero involvement in ANY of it. How naive am I? Laura’s expression on Friday was perfect, and that’s the aspect I’m most looking forward to. Genie will hit this storyline out of the park! I despise Valentin, so I’m rooting for Nina to dump his butt, though I know many like him. To each their own. As far as a Nikolas and Ava romance…hasn’t she had enough younger men? It doesn’t work for her, though I certainly envy her conquests. Now Ava and Jax would be fun, if only to watch Carly squirm. Did I just wish for more Carly? Oops.
Soaphound,
Agree, and I just knew that slap was coming when Laura looked at her son after his dialogue and the excuses he made for not returning sooner. Sorry, but I am not crazy about the new Nicholas, and certainly not as another boy-toy for Ava. To me it just makes the woman look older, desperate and shopworn.
Violet, MORE on target comments re AVA and Nik.
Your opinion ; it’s great that we have a right to opinions. It’s time for women to date and marry younger men since older men have been marrying younger women since the Old and New Testament (Bible) . I didn’t read where complaining took place in those days.
Your comments so on target! “Genie will hit this storyline out of the park” and “hasn’t she [Ava] had enough younger men?” She’s a man eater (and a scene chewer).
I don’t think of Nikolas as a younger man to Ava. The actors are both in their forties; she’s six years older. If Tyler Christopher were still in the role, they’d be exactly the same age. When the temp recast who finished out Nikolas’s story was with Ava, HE was the older one. In short, the characters are in the same ballpark.
I struggled with that too, Asp Burger. But it isn’t the real ages, it’s how they look on screen. And, frankly, the way Nikolas looks and is being written, Ava could serve him for lunch. But, stranger things have happened and I’m still enjoying the story. And I certainly like looking at Nikolas.
It’s time for the truth to be told. I read about their ages ,somewhere.
I agree with you about Sonny and his clan ; however, I’m a Valentin and Ava rooter.
That was a great Friday cliffhanger — even after all the preemptions.
Misc. points:
*Although Martin is not needed on the canvas, the spark between him and Liesl could make for a fun pairing. At least one of them has a believable accent. Her quip to Ava on Thursday was quite amusing.
*No one thought Ava perished after Valentin pushed her off the parapet. Viewers know it takes 2 falls off there to die (i.e. Katherine Bell survived her first as did Brad).
*Wyndemere is the next set that can use some sprucing up. Years ago, the house had a ballroom with a few different levels. The only grand thing on the current living room set is the fireplace.
*Speaking of sets, overall kudos on the updated Q foyer and living room. While the door in the rear made it more of a grander entry, moving it for economic reasons is okay. Hopefully they’ll use this set more now than the Q den set.
*Marcus Coloma (Nikolas) started on the show on Halloween, but has never been listed in the closing Friday credits with the rest of the cast. Amanda Setton (Brook Lynn) has been there included since her first week. Also, Finola was pushed down to the end of the contract player list. Perhaps her longer than usual summer break was due to some extended negotiations.
I love having Michael E. Knight back on my screen but hate the way he talks.
I agree with both of your statements! Why oh why can’t he just stop that ridiculous accent. Please!! Otherwise, it is great seeing Michael again.
Tersa, I love him, but not this character. I think there is more to him than meets the eye.
And why don’t they tell us, the viewers?
I find his performance (and character) disappointing and just plain DULL. What is the reason for his accent? I’m a southerner myself and love the southern accent–but why does he have one? Any explanation. And I hate the way he walks–all slow and meandering. WHY? Is he supposed to walk and talk slowly?
I’m with you, Nancy. I liked him much more on Y&R as Ashley’s temporary love interest. Here, he’s just another stereotypical creepy lawyer.
Yep!
sigh, sucker
“…Finola was pushed down to the end of the contract player list. Perhaps her longer than usual summer break was due to some extended negotiations ”
what? a woman with power? ie: think Genie Francis. Susan Lucci , power played her persona REALly well off screen.. hence her reign
ONE can only hope.. that her contract negotiation if any… yeah she pulls the show in, for ALL the viewers… hopefully, included – NO GO – on Michael Easton’ Finn.
can you imagine… Michael Easton… w/ Roger Howarth… still have “any” command
WOW just dumbfounded
yeah, i’ll take it
GO ! Ms. Finola
THE GREATEST AND MOST DRAMATICALLY UNFORGETTABLE MOMENT SINCE JASON CRASHED THE DOOR WITH SAM!!!!
”finally” !!!
Valentin is acting like a blood Cassidine and not a wimpy creampuff.
Afterall – Valentine is the Cassidine that Helena feared,,
If, a big IF, the Nikolas and Valentin are written as true Cassidines,
we’re in from some great Cassidine action.
But then again- with these writers, they most likely will be written as teddy bears, sigh.
And– Laura and Lulu, both need to bow to Valentin.
they threw hate at him and berated him, a constant spew on him
they were two battleaxes out for Valentin’s blood..
they need to humbly kiss Valentin azz and ask for forgiveness.
It is Nicolas, he, made them grieve and suffer they lived in pain,
and that is on Nikolas, he betrayed them.
Poor Spenser lived the loss/death of his father.
Nikolas was horribly deplorable not Valentin.
but–
the two shrews will baby Nikolas
even tho he made their lives a grieving hell.
SuOOO
I agree with you that Nikolas has been acting like a horse’s ass, but that doesn’t make Valentin’s actions any less despicable and disgusting, and the worst part is his excuse is he did it all for love.
heey Violet, long time–
Both, are despicable-
but Valentin is my man 😉
It will be good, to once again, have Cassidines actually
acting as true blood Cassidines.
((well, that is if the writers can pull it off))
if so–
Nikolas is in no way capable of overpowering Valentin.
Helena feared him above all..
and that ^^ speaks volumes.
its in the hands of the writers,,
You got that right, Su! Always in the hands of the writers! Sigh!
They’re not handling both as if they’re despicable .Who was arrested? It’s very unfair writing on General Hospital.
Yeah!
“WELL” here we go again… the uber mega talent James Patrick Stuart PULL.
may as well pee on him. LORD where does my libido have to go to net Nina
the propping on this show is laugh out loud!!!!! think Rebecca Herbst to Franco
they are so boring… his facial tick fast acts , lording over every “thing”
JPS : Valentin will take the fall for the writers/producers yen to prop this stale version of Tyler. WOW … when Tyler and Maura first screened on that airline “FLIGHT” to London… that was libido
alas, we have this younger upstart… with power play WILL in hand for spencer… oh god decreeing what ever !!!!
you know.. it just reeks.. how Billy MIller was power played… he’s long gone and MISSED !!!! this show has gone to hell and a hand basket… just clinging to death.. every since Steve Burton resurge of none whatsoever… if you know what I mean. I mean seriously.. sex with Sam ?!?!
I MISS James Patrick Stuart… DREAM
ps: nuNina Cynthia Watros’ OWNS her REEL
James Patrick Stuart is sex
Yes!!
Cynthia Watros’ is a great Nina..
Michelle belongs as Phillis, She is Phillis; not a Nina.
aaahhh the Hot one James Patrick Stuart
I hope he kicks Nikolas azz!
He/Valentin is a power Cassidine and I hope the writers do
Valentin justice and bring to screen his dark powers!!
Nikolas is a babe in woods in comparison to Valentin.
Being- Helena ‘feard’ Valentin hopefully, the writers will remember that fact.
— let it roll !!!
Su, now you must be kidding me! Valentin is a wuss–not a “power Cassidine.”
Apparently he’s not a Cassadine at all. More than likely a “Faison”. If that proves to be the case, maybe he will be a better Faison than Whiny Heiny. Though admittedly that is a very low hurdle.
Yes!
I agree about Valentin.
Yes, Franco and Liz–so BORING and so UNBELIEVABLE! And, yes, Cynthia Waltros “owns her REEL.”
These writers need to remember that they need to make all of the fans happy, sometimes. I’m trying hard to watch all of the Soaps; however, I will cease watching General Hospital as I did years ago.
WHAAAT? SuOOO, WHY do Laura and Lulu “both need to bow to Valentin”? There DOES need to be MORE SCENES between Laura (and Lulu) and Nikolas. Plumb the depths of this plot line. Happy New Year, Su!
Do I agree with you? Yes; I told my friends months ago that the writers were going to crucify Valentin , but were going to handle Nicholas with kid gloves or powder puffs.
I hope Valentin go down for pushing Ava in the water. And I hope Nina let him have it, and not marry him.He lied to her when she asked him if there were any more secrets. He said no. A lie. I just feel if he loved Nina as much as he say he do, he wouldn’t lie to her so much.
If you believe what you’re writing , none of the people on these shows would date or marry ; nor would they talk to each other.
I can’t wait to see the next episode!
Wow. A lot of Ava haters out there. She is around because of the amazing talent Maura West gives to her work. Maura is incomparable. This show needs less storylines centered around Sonny and Carly, but I’m excited for Sonny to find out Carly is lying about Jax. There are so many gifted actors on this show and we don’t see enough of their characters anymore. Julian, Alexis, Ned, Olivia, Lucas, Liesl, Monica, Nelle, Finn, Michael, Valentin, Elizabeth, Franco, Curtis, Willow, Chase. These characters are portrayed by the strongest performers on the show.
The show has become the Jason/Sam/Sonny/Carly hour and it’s becoming a snoozefest. The only one out of that bunch with any talent IMHO is Maurice. Steve is way too robotic and was the same on Y & R as Dylan. This show also has some people who should politely be told that acting isn’t their forte – Brad, Martin, BrookLynn,Jax, Jason, and the current Jordan.
There are some actors who have such superb talent, but the current writers don’t do their talents justice. The writers have written some of the characters into corners or made them unwatchable. All Lulu does is whine anymore about Charlotte. My gut still says she isn’t Charlotte’s mom. I think Claudette is.
The writers have killed off some of the best characters the show has ever had. Drew for one. Honestly, one of the reasons that stsrted me watching General Hospital again was Billy Miller because I loved him on Y & R. He is extremely talented, and he had incredible chemistry with Kelly. You can’t replace that. Another irreplaceable character is Hayden. She and Finn have so much more on-screen chemistry than Finn and Anna ever will.
I realize some choose to leave for other projects, but do you have to use the same overdone storylines to get rid of their characters? Killing off Kiki Jerome was a huge mistake. Maura and Hayley had one of the best on-screen relationships on the show. Add Matt Cohen to the mix, and it was magical.
Yes, actors choose to leave for other roles and those often don’t work out. The writers have killed off a beloved character, and of course, they can’t return. How many times do we see characters return from the dead on soaps? Way too many. I think most of us know GH is a above that.
The Kevin/Ryan story has got to end. Jon is terrific, but let sleeping dogs lie.
And please end the story with Mike at Turning Woods. It’s touching, but it’s time.
There is so much talent on this show. Utilize it!
The show has hit the ball out of the park with the vast majority of it’s young talent especially little Violet.
Most days, I watch minimal scenes. I’m very thankful for my DVR.
But, I keep watching and hoping the writers will get the message.
Susie, I couldn’t have said it better or agree more. When Billy Miller checked out, so did I. I rarely watch whole scenes anymore, I just get the gist. Too much Peter, JaSam, Sonny and Carly bulldozing their way into EVERY story, and the sidelining of others more worthy. How terrific an actress has Katelyn/Willow become? She should have more to do, as well as many others. The teenage love quadrangle is overplayed. Yeah, Dev has great hair, but Cameron has more substance. Elizabeth and Franco are trapped in wedded bliss and the Wiley thing has played itself out. I want Billy/Drew back, Hayden too. The Nikolas return is all that’s holding me lately.
“…I realize some choose to leave for other projects, but do you have to use the same overdone storylines to get rid of their characters? Killing off Kiki Jerome was a huge mistake. Maura and Hayley had one of the best on-screen relationships on the show. Add Matt Cohen to the mix, and it was magical. ”

I agree with you re the story with Mike–and the Kevin/Ryan story–“let sleeping dogs lie.” GH NEVER lets sleeping dogs lie. They just don’t know when to “quit” a story line. They just have one anti-climax after another until the story “withers” away–and, most damning, loses all of its original power.
I, do, however, vehemently DISAGREE with you re Ava and Maura West. Ava’s story should have ended when she committed murder, but, no. She had to also plot to kill her brother, have sex with (and a child) with Sonny after killing Connie the woman he loved, etc., etc. She is a caricature and a ludicrous character. Begone, Ava. And, to add insult to injury, the actress is forever chewing the scenery, licking her lips, cooing obnoxiously, giving side-eye–you name it! Give me a touch of subtlety, somewhere, somehow—PLEEESE.
Nicolas wife ava cassdine yup I’m in
This new Nick looks 12 years old next to Ava! No thank you!
So agree! Why can’t TPTB see the obvious????
Get over it, Timmm!
Count me OUT!
I say yes, too!
I heard, through the grapevine and/or scuttlebutt, that Maura is leaving GH? Please say it ain’t so!!
Celia, is that you? It’s been ages! I’ve basically been FF-ING much of GH since Billy Miller left and I went into a major funk. If Maura leaves, count me out for good. How have you been? Due to a “cookies” issue, I’ve only now regained access to the site!
Hello, Soaphound—-yes, it has been a while. I started teaching full-time, so I haven’t been participating as much . Thank you for asking—-hope you have been well.
Nonetheless, I do catch up with the soaps, regardless of the fact that the timbre, on these sites, has changed.
There are so many long-time fellow posters who are MIA–
So glad to “see” you here.
As far as nuNikolas? I love him!! I know that Christopher is the preferred actor in the role, but I was never taken with him—-I don’t like him–and that’s the truth. LOL.
I look forward to an alliance between Nikolas and Ava, both romantically and as “co-conspirators” against Valentin, who has lost his va-va-voom–sort of demorilizing , since I did like both the actor and the character, as diabolical as he is. He is sort of boring now.
As far as Maura, she is the best there is. Never a dull moment. She simply has IT–no matter the storyline, Maura masters the role. She’s untouchable. So, it would be a truly profound loss if she left.
The next fiend to be caught in his own web is, hopefully, Peter. He gives me indigestion…..such a bland, oatmealy-kind-of-guy, who unfortunately, has stripped Maxie’s luster from her.
Again, my friend, hope to communicate more in the future—-Happy New Year.
Maura leaving would be a huge loss!
Oh, wow! Say it IS so! I’ll have to see it to believe it.
I am just loving the show right now. Friday’s cliffhanger was wonderful and the preview that I saw online has me very excited for tomorrow. Honestly, just watching Genie Francis and her reaction to Nikolas immediately put a lump in my throat. She is the center of this show!
They finally found a place for Laura to fit in after all theses years. I enjoy her now.
I have always loved Genie. A great, compassionate actor–and fantastic ad-libber. And just let her raise that one eyebrow–and you know mischief and fun and humor are on the way! Go, Genie!
A man after my own heart, you are, Bostonnc! “Genie IS (always has been and still SHOULD be) the center of the show! Why can’t TPTB see the obvious?
I dont get all the love for Ava and the hate for Carly?
New Nick isnt a bad actor but is too young and stupid. The other Nicks were darker and more competent!
I love having Ingo back but I hate that he was mixed up in the Nicholas crap. Jax should have leveled that punk! Plus, I would have loved Jax and Hayden as a couple.
Great ending Friday with Nicky boy carrying Ava through the door. THATS the way cliffhangers used to be on GH!
I’ve been reserving my judgment on “NuNik” until we got to see him in context, i.e. interacting with his family & friends. Now that he’s “revealed” himself to Port Charles, that can be looked at.
He’s already a better recast than that last temp hire was though. Even if he looks like a near clone of Nick 2.0 from back in 2001 or so, and by that comparison, doesn’t look like he’s aged in almost 20 years.
I don’t get the love for Ava either. She should have been in Hell a long time ago… but we really don’t want her either!
Perhaps because Carly is so self-righteous. She’s married to a mob boss for Pete’s sake. Sonny has kids everywhere, and Carly feels the need to judge Ava for anything? Of course, Ava is the reason Carly’s precious Morgan is dead. Let’s forget the fact that Morgan suffered from mental illness. Carly also shouldn’t also be raising Avery. She is not her mother. Yes, Sonny is her father. But treating Ava as if she is unfit is ridiculous. The character of Carly is nothing but a high and mighty b*tch. She has forgotten where she came from. Carly is also lying to Sonny about Jax (another useless character). This isn’t going to go over well. I can only hope Carly loses Sonny. It’s so deserved. She can be with Jason. Sam doesn’t belong with him. That story is done and over. Carly thinks Jason is so fantastic? She can have him. This show is going downhill fast! If it proves true that Maura is leaving, I will be too. What kept me watching is gone… #Julexis, #Fayden.
A lot of Sonny, Carly, Sam and Jason haters but I’ve never heard anyone bitch about Jax? He is better than any of the others listed and he should have slapped that FAKE Nick upside his head!
Say it, again, Susie!!!! I do love Laura Wright, but Carly has suddenly become holier-than-thou…… above all others. Pretentious.
I love Genie, as well, yet no one can match the undeniable aura and in-your-face-talent as Maura West. Somehow, all of Ava’s shortcomins (and then some) fade into oblivion compared to her superior acting skills. Ava has never pretended to be anything/anyone other than what she is!! “Gotta” love her and hate her simultaneously.
You know, Celia, I never realized how many Ava haters there are. I try and remember that (a) it’s only fiction and (b) you can still like someone while hating what they do. Granted, Ava’s sins are major even by soap standards. But Sonny and Jason aren’t angels, either. Besides, Maura is just so much FUN to watch. Reminds me of when Sally Field did BROTHERS AND SISTERS…We saw aspects of her talent we’d ever seen before and it was thrilling.
Susie, I definitely agree with you about how they’re writing Avery’s rearing ; the writers are taking liberties with this child’s life. That’s another reason that I’m unhappy about G.H. The writers act as if Ava doesn’t have any parental rights; plus, as if Ava doesn’t have the right to contest the custody. I, also, hope that Maura isn’t leaving the show .
Yes, “the other Nicks were darker and more competent.” This one needs to get some depth into the character–and have more heart-rending scenes with his mother Laura (Genie Francis). Let a pro do her thing!
What you can’t get is called , opinions! We all have them!
True. So why are you telling me to “Get over it”?
I thought these scenes were electrifying. This reveal was something that they’ve been building to for so long, and a lot of times in soaps the pay off ends up not being worth the wait. In this case, it was well worth the wait.
GH has such a deep, talented cast of acting talent from top to bottom. An embarrassment of riches one might say, that is second to none in the industry today, in my view. It’s on full display with an umbrella story like this, where so many get a chance to shine.
It was wonderful to see Genie Francis be given some emotional material to sink her teeth into. They don’t give her the opportunity often, but every once in a while she gets to remind everyone why she’s the iconic legend that she is. James Patrick Stuart was excellent, Maura West brings it as always, Cynthia Watros has really made Nina her own and is doing a great job, even Marcus Coloma is starting to win me over. I still miss Tyler Christopher very much, but circumstances are what they are, really hope he gets the help he so desperately needs in his personal life. That aside, Coloma is starting to grow into the role.
GH has been on fire since Dan O’Connor was promoted to co-head writer. Stories are moving along at a quicker pace and it seems like they’re going out of their way to have some sort of cliffhanger or reveal at the end of every episode, to give you a reason to tune in the next day. That’s the way it should be done. It’s a sense of urgency in the storytelling that GH had been lacking for quite some time.
Hey Michael, how about an interview with GH’s new head writing duo? Would love to hear from them, if that’s something that you can make happen.
Would absolutely love that
Yes, truly was wonderful to see Genie Francis be give some emotional material to sink her teeth into. She can really “take a bite,” given half the chance! 🙂
And, speaking of Ava (Maura West): yes, she brings it–just TOO MUCH of it. Tone it down, girlfriend!
I agree with you about the writing ; there’s a tie (for me ) between Days of Our Lives and General Hospital.
Plueeeze! NO love story for Ava and Nik!
Hi Nancy, there was an old song titled, Say It Isn’t So, but in this case I fear it will be. Every thing I read points to these two, falling in love, hooking up, etc.Oh well, watcha gonna do?
Yeah,’fraid you’re right. GH never misses the chance to go for the sensational, the ridiculous, the absurd, etc., etc., does it?

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
