GENERAL HOSPITAL: On The Bridge, Robin Explains To Jason Their Past!

Courtesy/ABC

Courtesy/ABC

On Tuesday’s episode of General Hospital it was Kimberly McCullough (Robin) front and center stage alongside Billy Miller as Jason, as Robin finally meets up with her friend, and on the same bridge no less, which has been such a vital and key part to both their pasts and ultimately their futures.

In an extremely touching performance by McCullough, Robin explains to Jason, who can’t recall any part of their past, how they fell in love, how they broke-up, and how without Jason she would not have become a doctor, had a family, and became the woman she is today.   Robin even recounted her love story with Stone, and that she contracted HIV, and did not know whether she wanted a life on the then cocktail protocol.

She goes to say that Jason was the boy with no past when she met him.  Robin knew him originally as Jason Quartermaine, and not Jason Morgan.  But after his original accident, and he became Jason M, the two connected.   Ultimately, his choosing to continue to work for Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Robin not wanting to be a part of that world, ended their romantic time together.

As Robin explains theit past, Jason seems to begin to muster up some deep emotion for her and feels comfortable the way she seems to be willing to accept him as he is, which is something he did for her many years ago.   As the conversation ends,  Robin says she still has faith in Jason and kisses him on the cheek and leaves.  Later, Jason  has a sudden fragment of a memory of a young Robin (complete with old GH clip) talking to him on the bridge.

What did you think of the scenes on the bridge between Jason and Robin?  The performance of Kimberly McCullough? Will Robin’s chat get through to the memories of Jason? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!

It felt genuine and natural….not contrived, Robin simply stating facts.
Had she come across Steve Burton/Jason on that bridge…it would
have been perfection.

Hi, Fanny.
Hope you had a great Christmas with your loved ones.
I said something to that effect, also. Robin and this Jason were so at ease with each other, it was impressive considering they never worked together before. I loved it! Later, my lady.

It wasn’t good it wasn’t bad..

For me their backstory was like reading the same book for the 3rd time to kill time .. lol

Most the scenes were a talking repeat of what we had already known or seen/ a rerun thing..

Hi, su, That is true to a certain extend, su….only because it is a soap and we expect movement. Yes, I understand. But, we can also equate this to real life. It is a very natural and normal happening that when friends and family get together, we tend to repeat the same stories, no matter how many times we have heard or said them before. With my family it’s usually poking fun of everyone for having done something stupid or having made a faux pas, in the past. I especially enjoyed Robin and Jason as they sort of ‘reminisced’. Hey CeeCee, I am really glad you got a “taste” of the Scorpios. They are wonderful and my favorite GH family. And Robin and Jason…aaah. Someday when you have time you should go to “that site” and access the first scenes where Robin is introduced. Kim was only seven. She is special to a lot of us because we got to see her grow up on screen, absolutely a unique occurrence in daytime. She made her debut 30 years ago, dropped off at Robert’s doorstep. She did not know he was her dad, and she called him “Robbie.” It was… Read more »

@Tristan. Hi, Tristan. I can certainly identify. I started watching OLTL when I was only ten years old. I loved the show because Kristen Alderson was a kid herself….only six….and, grew up on set just like Kimberly. It was heartbreaking for me when the show was cancelled. No, I wasn’t disappointed. I was truly moved, Tristan. Thank you for caring. I actually did catch a couple of early episodes with Robin as a child. Her nanny, Filomena, I think, reminded me of my own nanny. I was familiar with Finola since she also appeared on AMC, in which my Gran… Read more »

CeeCee, I know exactly what you mean about OLTL being cancelled. I watched As the World Turns from when I was six years old until it was cancelled and I bawled my eyes out. My mom and I used to be able to turn it on in the radio in our car and we’d listen and guess what was happening when suspenseful music was playing with no dialog. Now my mom and ATWT are both gone, but I’ll treasure those memories forever. Also, I hope your family is kind when they poke fun about past mistakes. My husband’s fam has… Read more »

@Ashleigh. Happy New Year, Ashleigh. Did you have your baby? If so, I hope mommy and baby are doing well. Lol, my friend. The teasing among we siblings is all in good fun, usually directed to my 20-year old brother who would pull so many stunts as a teen…… Such as climbing out of his bedroom window at night, and get caught each and every time. Stuff like that……Or my eldest sister and her best friend would write ‘excuse’ notes for each other to get out of class. They would get in trouble, of course. Lol. Then, we tease my… Read more »

The scenes on the bridge were beautifully well written and acted. Kimberly was really present and committed in these scenes and Billy Miller showed what he is capable of. The one thing that distracted me is that after a year of absolutely nobody recognizing Jake as Jason, Robin immediately knew who he was when he said hello. This was the first time she had seen him with his new face! It gave me a chuckle…thankfully the ensuing scenes drew me in 100%. Long live GH! P.S. – I also found it funny that Paul Hornsby texted the evil Raj, whose… Read more »

I, too, made the assumption that Jason had ample opportunity to see Robin’s picture in town to recognize him. Her recognition of him, I think, just naturally flowed from being called by name by the man on the bridge she had been talking about with Elizabeth, as well as the significance of the location to both of them through the years. I liked the scene & rehash of history, finding it appropriate for this new Jason without a memory of his past – yet.

I can’t like this enough.

Speaking of Snarly Carly and Groundhogs Day with Sonny, where did her erstwhile brother Lucas go?! We get 3,000 scenes with Sonny and Carly until I want to stab my tv. But Lucas doesn’t get so much as a under five once a month. Sheesh.

The Jason stuff took waaaay too long to reveal. Can we pick up the pace already.

Teenage Kimberly did not age into a credible adult actor. Her decision to take up directing is wise and I wish her every great success.

Dylan, i i’m not picking on you since your not the only person who always brings up wanting jason to be or want to be a doctor again but tell me, is he suppose to become one within a few months? i just think at this point in the characters history, that dream is long gone.

If the guy can get shot, be brought back to life, have his face totally reconstructed, lose his entire memory, end up just happening to fall in love with his past love, be subjected to mind control, etc….I think they could possibly find a way to turn him into a doctor. I mean….they’ve explained Robin repeatedly leaving her beloved daughter and we bought it. Just saying, soap fans are pretty forgiving. That being said, I wouldn’t want him working on me.

Robin came as close to anyone intimating as such, Dylan. I think that is as close as we are going to get.
But here is what I am wondering–is there going to be a scene in which Jason, who now seems to abhor violence while fearing his own proclivity for violence, finds out that his BFF Sonny murdered his brother in cold blood and got away with it?

Tristan

Dylan, I hate to say it but you called Jason what he is, “a brain damaged murderer.” He would never get into med school, let alone have the smarts to become a dr., because of all that brain damage. He needs to find something legal and moral that doesn’t tax too much of what IS left of his brain.

KM did a great job, but the scenes were a let down for me. I wish someone would just say to Jason it is ok to be who you are now. A third incarnation. Monica, Robin and Liz accept him as is. Sam has accepted him as her friend. Jason should realize he belongs with Liz or no one for awhile.

Harry

I love Lizzy and so it pains me to say this, but she accepts Jason for who he is because the Jason who embraces Sonny’s world cannot embrace her simultaneously.
Her reasons are selfish and I think she even admits it.

“Ultimately, his choosing to work for Sonny and Robin not wanting to be a part of that world, ended their romantic time together.”

I think GH might want to check their history because while Jason and Robin did initially break up because his involvement with the mob they ended up reconciling and their “romantic time” REALLY ended because Robin told AJ that Jason was a lying liar for claiming to be Michael’s father and Jason got all mad for being called out.

Oh wait — we can’t let something like facts paint St. Jason in an unfavorable light…

Fanny

Fanny

Alan, your right…FACT CHECK!!!

KP

KP

Wrong. They had broken up a day or two before she told AJ. Robin and Jason were NOT together when she went to Carly’s house to tell Jason that she told AJ about Michael to protect Michael and Jason from Carly. You can see the video on Youtube of when she tells AJ. AJ says ” I heard you and Jason broke up”, Robin says “Jason told you?” and AJ says “no, Carly”.. Robin then tells AJ about Michael.. perhaps in some small way as a payback to Carly.. but moreso to get Jason back from Carly. It backfired.

clh

Exactly! But it wasn’t her place to tell either. She did it for selfish reasons, of not wanting Jason to be the father.

Harry

Robin was not being selfish and Jason, Sonny and Carly were horrid to her after she did the right thing by both Michael and AJ. Not allowing AJ to be a father to his own child was a heinous thing to do. Robin always knew that Carly was and is a destructive, possessive and controlling force. This was the first time I hated that unholy trinity that is Sonny, Carly and Jason. Sonny was especially disappointing because he loved Robin like a daughter after Stone died. Both Sonny and Jason owed Robin better. She did the right thing and it… Read more »

I am at a serious loss here. Really??? Any of you are attempting to show how bad AJ was, as compared to Sonny?? Rack up a list of how many characters who have been shot, maimed, injured, and murdered directly because of Sonny. All AJ ever did was try to be a better person and a better father, and continually had to use underhanded means to do that. I liked the bridge story with Robin and Jason. Thought Kim and Billy really pulled it off, especially since I don’t think they’ve ever done scenes with each other before. Yeah, I think the writers won’t ever let on what it is he really does. They want to keep Sonny (and Jason) as bad asses but they still want them to be “good guys”. Even when we disagree, this GH group here on Michael’s site is THE best around: intelligent, passionate, quirky, controversial. Most “rare,” to be sure, Tristan! (Well put!) Cailtin Reilly to Appear in General Hospital Tribute Episode to Her Father John Reilly

Tik Tok star, Cailtin Reilly, who is the daughter of the late soap veteran, John Reilly, will play a key role in the General Hospital tribute episode in her dad’s honor.

According to Variety who broke the casting news, Caitlin will portray Annie, formerly known as Anna, the daughter of her father’s character Sean Donely and Tiffany Hill (Sharon Wyatt).

In a statement on her casting,  Caitlyn expressed: “Words can’t describe how honored I am to be playing my dad’s daughter on the show. I grew up on the set of ‘General Hospital,’ watching him work for years, so it’s exciting to dive into a new character in honor of him. He’ll absolutely be by my side in spirit on set rooting me on. It fills my heart with gratitude to be a part of this tribute to him, and to feel so close to him working on a show he loved so much doing.”

The character of Anna was last seen on-air back in August of 2013, when she was portrayed by Courtney Halverson. In story at that time, Sean was poisoned by polonium and he teamed up with Luke (Anthony Geary) to track down the man who extorted millions for the cure, while Anna repeatedly got in contact with that man to get the medicine her father so desperately needed.

John Reilly passed away back in January 2021.  The talented actor first appeared on GH back in 1984 and last appeared on the daytime drama series back in 2013.

So, looking forward to seeing Caitlyn playing Sean and Tiffany’s daughter? Comment below.

Lynn Herring Celebrates 35th Anniversary of Her General Hospital Debut; and ‘We Love Lucy’

Today, April 11th marks the 35th anniversary of the debut of Lynn Herring on General Hospital as Lucy Coe.  And wow, when you look at the road this character has gone on played to the hilt by Herring, it has been one entertaining ride for GH fans along the way.

Lucy started out as a mousy librarian, if you can believe that! And of course, she eventually showed all that she was a bombshell.  She then became quite the schemer and seductress.

Along the way, Lucy was married to Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon), was involved with Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner), Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) and other men in Port Charles.

At one point, Herring took the character of Lucy to the now defunct Port Charles where she stayed from 1997-2003,

But this one time gold-digger eventually became the champion of the GH Nurses’ Ball and helped raise awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS research. Now, year after year, the one thing you can always look forward to is Herring’s hilarious antics and sincerity in her star turn as the emcee of the annual fundraising event.

On Sunday, the GH tweeted posted: “Lucy Coe knows everything about everyone in Port Charles and we would be lost without her. Please help us congratulate TheLynnHerring on the 35th Anniversary of her #GH debut”.

Lynn responded sharing: “Thank you! Have loved every @GeneralHospital  moment!”

Share your congratulations to Lynn via the comment section below, and let us know your favorite Lucy moment too!

GENERAL HOSPITAL: “I’m Alexis Davis, and I’m a Fighter, and an Idealist, and an Advocate”; Nancy Lee Grahn Gives Masterful Performance In Special Episode

When you combine superb direction, writing, production, and acting in a special episode of a daytime drama, viewers can see and understand the thought and care that went into it.

This was more than on display during Thursday’s highly-anticipated ‘Alexis-Centric’ episode honoring the 25th anniversary of Alexis’ portrayer, two-time Daytime Emmy winner, Nancy Lee Grahn, on General Hospital.

Courtesy/ABC

In the story, symbolism was apparent and used for dramatic impact and it worked beautifully throughout, and best of all, Nancy received a script worthy of her immeasurable talents, and showed us once again why she remains one of the gold standards of our genre.  If you have not seen the episode DO NOT read any further as it contains spoilers.

It begins with an emotional Alexis looking at her mother’s watch which was still frozen from the time of her death.  While playing one of her mother’s records very loudly, she recalls Mikkos Cassadine kissing and dancing with her mom as a young Alexis (Natasha) looked on from the staircase.  When Sam asks her about it, Alexis shares that she sees the watch as sort of a representation for her own life being frozen over the last three years; which has included Alexis’ battle with booze taking over her life and her being disbarred, when being a lawyer was the way she identified herself and what gave her purpose.

Overwhelmed and anxiety-ridden, Alexis hightails it to Kevin’s office for a therapy session knowing she is going to Pentonville in the morning to serve her sentence.  She says she does not know who she is anymore.  Then, Kevin asks her how she spent her day thus far.  She flashes back to lunch with the good men in her life, Finn, Valentin, Jax and Ned.  Valentin tells Alexis she is proud of her for honing up to her mistakes.

Back at the therapy session, Alexis she was an attorney who stood for something and her life has derailed, and that she was a fighter, an idealist, and an advocate.  She knows she has to find a purpose in prison to make it through the three-year term and asks Kevin to help her find one.

Kevin wants to go back to when she was a little girl and her memories that are flooding back to her of Mikkos and her mother.  Just then, the younger version of Alexis is huddled in the corner of Kevin’s office, an image of her from the past.  Alexis tries to come to terms with her father and the choice of dangerous men and relationships that have marred her own happiness  … recalling Julian holding a knife to her throat like Mikkos did to her mother. She says he was one of the toxic men in her life, but Kevin reminds her all of the men in her life were not toxic.

Alexis starts with Ned as one who was good for her saying he was always stable, but she ruined that by recently sleeping with him and putting a wedge in his marriage to her long-time friend, Olivia.

We then flashback to earlier in the day, where Alexis ends up in an almost confrontation with Olivia.  However, Olivia tells her she misses the Alexis Davis she used to be and to get her back.

Now back with Kevin, a guilt-ridden Alexis relays she feels responsible for Neil’s death.  Kevin interjects she is not, nor what happened with Julian.  When Kevin attempts to bring up Mikkos again, Alexis rejects it and is angry that he is making her problem about daddy issues; like so many other women.  She vehemently shouts that the men in her life do not define who she is.

Then, Alexis flashes back to hurtful memories she has buried of a young Natasha witnessing Mikkos calling her mother a “greedy little bitch”.  She recalls it was on Christmas Eve and that Mikkos stopped by to give them gifts. That is when he presented her mother with the watch.  However, things took an ugly turn when he tried to leave, and she threatened to tell Helena all about her and Natasha. Next, Mikkos slapped her and that is when the watch shattered. As all this was going down, a young Natasha watched from the stairs and was horrified that she couldn’t stop her father from beating her mother and remembers how helpless she felt.

However, Alexis reveals to Kevin she thought this would be the last of Mikkos coming by, but he returned on New Year’s Eve and her mother took him back into their lives.  Alexis is beside herself that she could not protect her mother, but Kevin reassures her to remember she was just a child.

Courtesy/ABC

It is then we come to the crux of the story.  Alexis looks over in the corner and sees her younger self crying. She goes to her younger self and tells her nothing that happened was her fault, and that their father was damaged and cruel. She tells the young Natasha this shouldn’t have been her burden to carry alone, and that she deserves to be happy. Then in the moment of strength and coming full circle, Alexis introduces herself to the young Natasha, “I’m Alexis Davis, a fighter, an advocate, and an idealist … and I will take care of everything from her on out.”  In that moment, Alexis embraced herself, and forgave herself, so she could move on with her life.

Alexis then flashes back to earlier that night, as the Davis girls gather for a faux graduation ceremony so Alexis could see Molly in her cap and gown and they hug. Back in her session, Kevin remarks that Alexis has repeatedly defined herself as a fighter, an idealist, and an advocate, and reminds her she has three daughters who have those qualities, and that all she needs to be is Alexis Davis.

Then, we get a heart-warming montage of Alexis though the years in honor of Nancy’s 25th anniversary with GH.

As the episode concludes, it is the next morning, and Alexis enters Pentonville and enters her jail cell. There she meets her fellow inmate, who is studying law books to prep for her upcoming parole hearing. Alexis introduces herself as “Alexis Davis” and as someone who can help her.  We then go back to her mother’s watch which now begins ticking at Alexis’ home.  The show fades to black.

Kudos to Daytime Emmy winner, Phideaux Xavier for his outstanding direction, head writers: Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor and script writer, Scott Sickles for the thoughtful episode, EP Frank Valentini and his production crew for putting it all together, and the one and only Nancy Lee Grahn for a performance that will be remembered as a classic.
