What Is The New Year's Eve Wedding Shocker On The Young and the Restless?

Courtesy/CBS
A New Year’s Eve in Genoa City is never just walk in the park! In fact, plenty goes down, and as the ball drops and we ring in 2016, looks like 2015 will go out like a lion!
In the latest promo for this week’s Y&R, the guests are assembled for Stitch (Sean Carrigan) and Abby’s (Melissa Ordway) New Year’s Eve wedding! Victor (Eric Braeden) is seen walking his daughter down the aisle, but something goes amiss. When does it happen? Before the wedding, or after? While there will be some interesting midnight kisses, and some resolutions, especially one coming from Billy Abbott (Burgess Jenkins), “This will be my last best bet ever,” he exclaims, the citizens of this town have their share of drama set to unfold at the stroke of midnight.
Meanwhile, all signs point to something being amiss with Ashley (Eileen Davidson)! What does she have to say to Dr. Neville (Michael E. Knight) that may be a game-changer?
Watch the latest CBS Daytime promo after the jump, and then weigh-in! What will be Ashley’s confession? Why are Lauren (Tracey E. Bregman) and Chelsea’s (Melissa Claire Egan) faces looking so stunned (pictured above)? Is the wedding shocker about Ashley, or something or someone else? Share your theories in the comment section below!
I think it has something to do with Ashley and the headaches she’s been getting lately
Ben’s ex shows up but she’s really a HE?
Looks like Jim H took over your computer!
Hi, my guy!!!
Too funny, Timmm. I wish that were true. I’d love to write something with Jim. C’mon , Jimmy, what say you?
ill take that as a compliment…lol
Looks like Im a bad influence on you…lol…i like your idea better than mine…i was going to say Ashley’s headaches were cause by a fall out a window and they learn she is has been living a double life…she is a wanted criminal Kristen Dimera!…havent been watching much of these shows lately…only glimpses…had two family emergencies over Christmas and one family member is still in the hospital…ive been ill with the flu and have spent much time in bed but i have some brief good moments to take advantage of to post…later friend!!!
Awwww. So sorry, Jimmy. I’m glad you’re on the mend, though.
I love the Ashley/Kristen connection. That would be the killer of all killers. Imagine that.
Listen up, please get better soon. We need your audacious and so entertaining comments. Please try to have a great and healthy New Year, my friend. Much love.
Thanks…best wishes and Happy New Year to you and your family!!!
Ashley tells all shes dying.
AGREE…SHE IS DYING BUT NOW DR.NEVELL WILL SAVE HER AND BECOME GENOA CITYS NEW HERO!
Going to run with Judy–Neville saves Ashely but is still regarded as the town pariah while Neil is given full credit for saving her life, and is hereby declared Saint Neil.
Best answer, Judy K. I agree.
What did Melissa Claire Egan do to her hair? And why? That better be a wig.
It looks hideous!
She put her hair up and it makes it look like she cut it. At first, I thought she had cut it, too!
I think Ashley will declare her love for Stitch
That’s a good one, Casey. Maybe her tumor is making her act brazen and she spits it all out!
Correction….brazenly, not brazen.
@Elite.
Oh, my gosh. Really? I feel so guilty and so sorry for Burgess now. I guess he really needs the money. But, at least he’s shopping around for a job ….’cause he ain’t cutting it as an actor. I wish him well.
Ashley collapses, gasp! Gasp! ! $×€£* Dr. Neville can you save her or not? 1)She will come to enough g to insist that the wedding continue because…she’s doing and wants to see her baby happy and begs Ben to make that happen despite their undying love for each other. 2) the wedding is “postponed” until it’s clear Ashley is going to survive. 3) Billy shows up drunk and crashes the scene, literally.
Sorry. Early. Needed my glasses on. Lol
Ashley has a fainting spell, comes to and insists she’s “fine”
ashley tells dr neville that she is dying and that is why she is helping him with his experimental project – she is hoping he can cure her
I can’t wait for Burgess to leave. Anyone know his last airdate?
I think Jason Thompson starts on January 14th. I’m glad for the recast but I actually thought Burgess has been doing a better job since he announced his departure?
Funny you say that… this is no joke…. I live in Chicago and Burgess was on a commercial the other day for a low end Furniture Store called “The DUMP”… I was literally shocked…. and it was most certainly Burgess….
Saw the Dump commercial too (I also live in Chicago suburbs) and it was Burgess. He was very different from the Billy role. I was glad he found other work.
I agree Timmm – Happy New Year!
I do not, but I do understand what you mean. Burgess has done a good job but every time I see him all I can think is,”You’re still here?”
I have given up on Young and restless and Bold and beautiful and now only watch Days of our lives . It is a million times better ! Patch and Kayla are back on and A Martinez who played Cruz on Santa Barbara now plays eduardo !
I too watch Days, along with B&B and Y&R.
A needs to shave though!
The minister is Ian.
Ooooo, I like that too, Mo!
Seriously speaking? What can be so shocking that we haven’t already suspected? There will be, as usual, a catastrophe with one or all the aforementioned characters, with Dr. Neville smack in the middle of it.
I admire the ‘gods’ for trying to create suspense, but my interest is not whet. Is Ashley dying? Is there a video of Ben snd Ashley in the shower? Is Dr. Neville someone’s list father? Whatever it is, won’t be such a shocker. I hope I am wrong. This show’s tree really needs to be shaken…..I hope my favorite show will not disappoint me.
Video in the shower footage would be more likely to happen on GH. Your right CeeCee, its probably a weak teaser to bait us into 2016!
Great mind, Timmm; great minds…..
What was all the intrigue with Lauren having to bolt so suddenly? Why even be there?
New writers????
Watch Days of our lives on NBC . It is 10 times better !
“I can’t believe it’s finally here. My wedding day.”
Please Abby. You have been engaged for a nanosecond. Let’s talk about how it is “finally here” when you have been with a guy for at least a year.
Lol. Too funny, Chrystie. Perhaps she means A wedding day is finally here……doesn’t matter with whom? Too bad she’s stuck with cantaloupe-head. Or, maybe NOT….. something momentous is about to happen. Oh, joy!!
I’m glad there is an interruption because I for one do not want to see this marriage. Abby does not belong with this “doctor.” Good grief, I can’t stand this character, and the actor can’t keep his head straight for a minute– every single line is delivered with a swaying head. Bugs the crap out of me.
@Ron.
Again…too funny, Ron. Did you notice Ben didn’t even bother shaving on his wedding day? He always looks do scruffy.
He can’t keep his head straight long enough to shave without needing medical assistance!
Like Mo said, Ian as the preacher and I’m hoping Pattycakes as the organist, Ghost John as the bartender, Marco shows up to cut off Jack’s ear, Murphy shows up and kicks Devon’s azz, Avery Bailey Clark delivers a freshly baked wedding cake, Michael Muhney shows up as a caterer and hits Summer over the head with a chafing dish and luckily Summer already has a sour look on her face to match the pain of the stainless steel dish as it rings off her noggin, Harding’s twin shows up to arrest the real Adam and Victor shaves his mustache. looks in the mirror and sees for the first time what a bully really looks like. DAMN IT!
HaHa. I love it, Timmm. But, you forgot Carmine popping out of the cake, buck naked. Oh, yeah!!
What a body! I forgot ALL about him! Maybe he needs to roll back into town and shake things up! Maybe we will get to see Michael and Lauren then! And Fen, he was on “Under the Dome” this past summer and he was great! Why not bring him back and dump Summer, Stitch, Devon, Marissa and Luca!
Yeah, Fen turned into a real looker.
Yuck, Luca. He doesn’t even look like a Luca. That name is as Spanish as Smith. And Marissa? Yes, she is gorgeous but what’s up with her? I suppose being close to her husband gives her the chance to one day get her daughter back. I cannot wait until peanut-head, Luca leaves. Of all the tycoons in the US to choose, they chose a Spaniard who looks nothing like a Spaniard with an Italian name? Spain is not exactly up there with lucrative businessmen roaming about, these days.
You had mentioned on a different thread, Timmm, that Noah looks too young to be involved in such underhanded schemes as in; corporate business and machinations. I definitely agree, albeit he is older than ‘Marissa’. He just does not have that despicable aura about him. He looks like a babe in the woods, such a baby-face.regardless of the fact that TPTB are doing their best propping snd prepping him for the challenge.
I agree, all the people you mention d ‘gotta’ go. Useless space. Later.
Whatever it is, Charles Pratt came up with it, so it won’t be good. Sorry, but Dr. Neville is a stupid character. I’m sure Ashley has health insurance, why would you put your life in the hands of a quack rather than professionals. It doesn’t make sense. Michael E. Knight must be hard up to take on this dreadful role.
Lol, Joe. Haven’t you heard? Dr. Neville has been working on this miracle drug for eons. Hilary was his Guinea pig. That is the purpose for this character. Lol.
Of course, I agree with you, Joe. So sad to see these iconic actors/actresses being used as a means to an end, almost in a caricaturist manner.
I love it all so far and everyone looks so pretty but I was disappointed that Bummer and Bile are back over Christmas. Why can’t they send those two back to college for a few years. They are nothing but downers.
@Nikki.
I just love it!!! Bummer and Bile????? That’s rich. Oh, my gosh….still laughing. You really crack me up, Nikki. Happy New Year.
And once Kevin cracks internet security, will that be the end of our online conversations?
@Ron.
Oh, my gosh, Ron….that’s hilarious!!!!
When will Lauren and Michael remarry?
I did not realize they were divorced. When did that happen? Where have I been? I seriously did not know, Mo.
They divorced a while ago when Michael was going through his cancer (which apparently has been cured offscreen) and he was afraid he couldn’t be a ‘real’ husband to Lauren so he let her go. He was trying to get Lauren and Cane together and that’s what pushed Lily into Joe’s bed (she thought Cane cheated on her). They have since gotten back together and I believe they live together, but are still unmarried–unless that too happened offscreen. Maybe Y&R thought we all forgot these two are divorced.
Mo, I thought the final drafts of the divorce papers were never signed.
Okay am I the only soap fan out there who is sick of the word “shocker”? In most cases the shocker isn’t really shocking, but just PR spin trying to create buzz for stories that are simply not well written.
It seems nowadays no one wants to watch anything unless there is something that can trend on social media the next day, so everything has to be hyped up to sound far more exciting than it is just to get a once of attention.
There was a time people would just tune in because they liked the show, not because they were lured there with the promise of some big event that either doesn’t live up to the hype or is so short lived that all those who came to see are gone the next day-
It is rather sad when soap writing becomes a series of shockers with some loosely strung plots to hold them together. So the reference might be a bit late, but I say bah humbug to shockers.
2015 Soap Story of the Year: Producers forcing soap writers to ask the WGA for waivers. The contract requires writers to be given one assignment a week. With a waiver, a writer is forced to give up a script or two a month for 52 weeks. This results in less work and a smaller paycheck. Complaints have been lodged but there is not much the WGA can do. List of Soap Writers: head writer, associate writers, breakdown writers, scriptwriters, and a script editor. Learned that each associate writer is required to write for one day in each week. Scriptwriters write the dialogue for all characters who land on their day.
Thanks for the info– this might explain why soaps right now seem to be written all over the map with no real flow between scripts– it is good to know even the writers aren’t thrill with this set up. Sometimes as viewers we like to blame the writers for all the ills of the genre, but as you pointed out here, they have there own struggles with management. I suppose the days when soaps were written and produced by the same person who created the show are long gone and so are stories that were creatively and intelligently woven together with a single vision in mind.
Each network has or had a training program for writers interested in writing for the soaps. CBS (Daytime Writers Initiative Program), ABC (Daytime Writers Development Program) and NBC (NBC-TV Daytime Writers Development Program). There is no guarantee of a job after the program has been completed. Comment Reference: Web article by Julie Poll “My Life Writing for the Soaps” NYCityWoman.com
I called it. Ashley fainted.
The picture of Lauren and Chelsea can’t be from the episodes because Lauren left the wedding (Why? I know, for Fenmores, but why did the writers do this?) and Chelsea’s hair is tucked up to a bob for the wedding.
I watched the recorded show from yesterday, and had a hard time understanding how anyone at CBS would let that enormous amount of talent be wasted at the hands of Chuck Pratt. When I saw the wedding scene and saw all the actors relegated to crap, I realized that Y&R has become just like every other soap (minus B&B) with the new merry-go-round of hack writers and producers. When I saw Lucky Gold’s name in the credits, I knew the ship had sprung a leak. Y&R maintained itself based on writers who knew (or created) these characters, now it’s just a bunch of stuff that sounds like a 4th grader wrote it. I was happy to Michael Conforti contributing, but then they couldn’t even spell his name write in the opening credits (Michel.) Really????
OMG, Y&R has rubbed off on me…I meant right, not write!
Somewhere in all these fun comments someone mentioned that Billy’s acting had picked up subsequent to the announcement that he was leaving the program. I agree. Common sense says my next comment is in the minority, however, Billy was growing on me. He was probably an unfortunate choice after Billy Miller. It was difficult to slip into that role when the first appearance of new Billy was so startlingly different. Anyway, I wish him the best. He deserves better than selling furniture.
Lillian’s comments are quite telling. Quality has little to do with the given incentives; just numbers. Of course my watching feeds the numbers which infer quality.
Much ado about nothing! Do we not recall the anticlimactic Feb., Nov. sweep fiascos?
Soaps have become sad ‘rinse/repeat’ TV. None are imaginative enough to evolve; try something new – like emotionally intelligent adults.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
