General Hospital
General Hospital Pays Homage to LOVING While Giving Us A Twist As To Robin's Wherabouts!

Courtesy/ABC
On Thursday’s episode of General Hospital, the very clever team of executive producer Frank Valentini, and head writer Ron Carlivati, came up with a unique twist that brought several stories together, and also paid an homage to the ABC Daytime soaps of the past!
While Holly (Emma Samms) and Luke (Anthony Geary) were hot on the trail of Jerry Jacks, they landed in the Pennsylvania in the town of Corinth, and the house they came upon for their search, Luke recalled was the same place where the notorious “Loving Murders” took place years ago, to which Holly held up a picture of the murderess Gwyneth Alden (Christine L. Tudor) who was the Corinth Serial Killer. Holly related the story of why Gwyneth went on a killing spree, “She wiped out pretty much all of her friends and family in some twisted attempt to wipe away their pain.” Luke then said how the survivors moved to The City (which was Loving’s spin-off when ABC tried to salvage the show).
But this all dovetailed into the major story of the MIA and believed dead Robin Scorpio Drake (Kimberly McCullough), when Dr. Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) recalled to her daughter, Britt something she had done. Next, we see a flashback of Robin in a wheelchair with her wrists tied to it, being wheeled into the same abandoned mansion that Holly and Luke are at now by Dr. O. Then, Dr. O asked someone , “What should they do with Robin now?”
Luke and Holly also found a locked closet door behind a bookcase that Luke was determined to open! The duo also found pictures of Cabot Alden (Wesley Addy) and Tricia Alden (Noelle Beck) ! So now the question is who, or what, is on the other side of the secret door? As ABC Daytime fans recall, Faison (Anders Hove) made an appearance and crossed over to Loving in 1993. Has GH come up with a shocker to propel the story of Jerry/Faison/Dr Olbrecht/Luke/Holly/ and Robin?
What did you think of the nod to Loving today? And where things will lead now that we know Robin was in Corinth? Comment below!
I wonder if this means something else like they will include old characters from Loving and tie it together into this storyline
I would love to see Noelle Beck show up as Trisha. Tracy was on Loving at one time too.
Oh sorry it was called “The City” when Tracy was on it.
I would love to see Christine L. Tudor return as Gwyneth Alden!!!! She was awesome!!!
I agree Christine Tudor is a great actress as Gwyneth Alden.
I agree that Christine L. Tudor should come back as Gwybeth Alden
@MichaelFairman: General Hospital Pays Homage to LOVING While Giving Us A Twist As To Robin’s Wherabouts!: I agree with Caroln lease bring back Christine Tudor as Gwyneth Alden
I think Gwyneth Alden should make a come back. Christine did such a great job with the that character
Couldnt agree more! I want to see Christine L Tudors come back to ABC!
Gwyneth would not be the same without Christine Tudor playing the part!, she was the main reason I watched Loving. Would love to see her again. Bring back Christine,,,
Love it !!
In all this, where is Laura?
Well, Laura is back in France for a “check up”.
Please… Ron Carlivati and Frank Valentni
Bring her back!!! We love Laura forever!!
Also, now that they can’t use AMC and OLTL characters, they delve in Loving’s? Not enough characters in GH’s history?
Damn, why be so bitter. It was a scene starring vets, dealing with a plot with other vets, paying homage to another old soap that was in all rights, connected to GH. It’s like nothing is ever good enough for some. Just HAVE to find SOMETHING to complain about. Damn. lol.
Had to reply here…hope your right about Laura…she’ll show up at the right time…also agree with your above comments…lol
Disagree curacaoman comments! I agree with TheHugoBoss comments!
“What did you think of the nod to Loving today?” I loved it.
I watched Loving and The City, and I remember that when Tracy was on The City that was when she was married to a mobster and used the mob money in ELQ which has been mentioned a lot in her battle for control over ELQ
I never watched Loving/The City but i think it was clever how RC using it in GHs storyline…love the mystery, and suspense, and how its tied in to Robin!!! This has become cant missed tv!!!
And where is Laura?
I can’t help but hope that by not showing Laura, theyre involving her into the story undercover. Holly and Luke are going to be trapped or in a life or death situation, a situatuon, and Laura’s gonna turn out to be the one who saves them. OR even better, Luke gets so sick and Laura shows up just in time and she and Holly are forced to work together to save Sean and Luke.
Am glad Laura and Genie are back, JFP and Guza gave her the shaft for sure, but honestly never missed her during this week’s episodes.
Didn’t Laura go to find Luke? Laura told this to Scotty when she found out that Luke was dying, right!
i loved it, since oltl and amc can no longer be mentioned then why not show a litllte love to soaps of abc past and tie them to GH. i think its clever.
I was a bit confused but now that you’ve explained it better, I love it. (pun intended) Lots of twists and turns, keeps us on our toes. I started watching GH in the 80’s so I am thrilled with all my faves coming back. Especially Lucy! GH needs her.
I like the show a lot yesterday! I can’t wait to see how this is all linked together and how long it will take to start peeling some layers…
I really hope we don’t see any more new characters on the show. There are way too many people now. Thank you for the run through on the story because none of it meant anything to me. It now makes a little more sense now.
Agree 100%.
Leave it to Frank and Ron to come up with something unexpected and unique. I love that they use the past history on GH , now using the history of Loving is a great bonus to longtime fans.
Yes I agree
SO AWESOME! A real treat for ABC daytime fans and a reminded that character crossovers between ABC shows is not new!
i loved it .. this was unexpected .. i love hoe the producers and writers give a heads up to soap history while moving forward .. i cant wait for today and most next weeks shows
I never watched “Loving” or “The City”, but found this to still be very cool, and surprising. GH really needs more surprises – the plots now are very predictable and the twists seem to be telegraphed many days in advance.
ABC only has one remaining soap, but the network still retains ownership rights to many of their cancelled shows. I think it is a very cool idea if the show could incorporate characters and storylines from long defunct shows. However, GH is a show with such awesome veterans that viewers are wanting to see, and many newbies have already taken over and dominated much of the action recently. I have always crossovers as it is neat to see familiar characters in different circumstances. I would love to see characters from Ryan‘s Hope, or Loving, or Edge of Night.
Edge of night is owned by Proctor and Gamble so they cannot be used. It makes sense Luke and Holly had to go to an abandoned house somewhere looking for Jerry, at least it is a house that has some history to some.
Tooooo baaaaad….I REALLY loved “Preacher” from EON!!!!! Followed his career to other soaps, then primetime. I believe he has since left the acting business…..
Just want the mystery person to be someone other than Jerry. We already know he is involved so it would be a letdown. All n all, this storyline has gelled very quickly and is so much fun.
brilliant… so many alumni that are familar faces to GH, AMC. Would love to see ABC forfeit one of their talk shows and initiate a re-boot of the Agnes Nixon-Douglas Marland soap. We can dream.
It would be a positve to have a show with characters still wholely owned by ABC. To be able to leverage the lessons learned from the PP licensing fiasco that has left this fan exhausted and ready for Monday, Aug 19 and then to move onward- would be a blessing to cast, crew and fans, imo.
A quasi- pilot could be culled from GH. THink of the potential of the twin brothers, the eccentric matriach….and think of the alumni…(did I already mention that..well it is worth saying again.)
Noelle Beck, Debbi Morgan, Darnell Willians, Rena Sofer, Catherine Hickland, Sebastion Roche, Ted King, Laura Wright, Lisa LoCicero, Jessica Collins, Amelia Heinle, jane Eliott ( Who also served as a producer.)
I could see Frank Valentini as Co- EP with Jane Ellott on this.. GH cast is heavy now… could give a better chance for more work in NYC for a soap. One that production could be well managed. Oh, the opportunity..the hope..
Honestly, some actors really personify their characters, and Robin is one of them. Jason is another. But, their legacies have lasted in almost every major storyline without being seen in forever. I am not opposed to a Robin or Jason recast, at this point, so long as the actors chosen do the character justice. I never thought I would warm up to another Carly after Sarah Brown left, but I thought Tamara Braun did an outstanding job. I was not a fan of the third Carly, Jennifer Bransford, but I love Laura Wright. If Carly can have four faces, Robin and Jason can have two. Not to mention Lucky, bring back one of the three Luckys, lol. I’m going to stop talking now. But, yes, I hope this storyline FINALLY leads to paydirt and brings Robin back to Port Charles. BTW, I’m assuming the intruder in Mac and Felicia’s wedding is friggin’ Richard Simmons, by Lucy’s reaction.
I bet this will be another bait and switch….they’re making the audience believe they’re closer to finding Robin, only for this to lead to nowhere. Then whenever they do really and truly get a commitment from KMc and Robin returns for more than a pop in, they’ll reveal how and why all this is so important to the “mystery” of Robin being held captive. I won’t be fooled into thinking any of this means anything today, when really it’ll be put on the backburner and kept there until G-d knows when while fans speculate and beg them to give more info. When they have something to share, they’ll share it, and not a moment sooner. And as far as I’m concerned, they won’t get me back as a viewer until then.
I’m okay with the nod to Loving but I sure hope I don’t see any of their characters on my screen before I see my Robert Scorpio alive and saving Robin with Anna & Sean!
You said it. Robert cannot get home fast enough for me! I LOVE him, have since his very first episode of GH. He will save the day!
Brilliant!
I loved LOVING. Admittedly though, I loved it a lot more at the start when Patricia Kalember, Susan Walters, and friggin’ awesome Bryan Cranston (BREAKING BAD) were on and the Vochek family was very much on the front burner as were the Aldens. I am afraid the series did lose steam and interwest for me, but I never wandered too far away. I thought the way the series was allowed to end with the serial killer storyline was a smart one. I even moved along with the survivors to THE CITY, vut that never really gelled. To have this surprise shout out to the past is wonderful. I wish the webs could develop new serials. It was always a treat to hear of something new in development.
Gh has won me back. I stopped watching during the franco episodes.I watched loving and the city so i was on cloud nine.
I am with you on the Franco episodes, particularly the James Franco era. I think Roger Howarth will redeem the character and we will forget the craziness Franco wrought. When LOVING began in 1983, I was so intoit and loved the class struggles between the Aldens and Vocheks. I sense alot of that was Douglas Marland’s work and he left the show and with him, apparently that foundation. Still, Agnes Nixon did give us a serial with class and smarts. I miss it and RYAN’S HOPE. they seemed — for the most part — based more in real life and every day living.
I’m convinced that when is all said and done, Robin will not be the ONLY P.C. resident held hostage by Jerry Jacks and Co. Get ready for the return of Alan Quartermaine! Nice “Loving” tribute, though.
I agree. Dr O has more than just Robin in Corinth. Can’t wait to see who. I hope Heather Webber somehow plays into it.
I LOVED IT!!! I have always thought that there should be more references to other soap-towns to create a synergy amongst the network soaps. Now that GH is the only one on ABS, doing so doesn’t create that synergy, but it does give that warm shout-out to fans of the old shows.
I think it’s really wise to use history, even if it isn’t from the same show. Most soap fans have watched more than one show over their lifetime; most of those soaps are gone. When someone on a current show mentions Bay City, Springfield, or Oakdale, it brings back a warm feeling and makes me feel as thought the writers/producers care about all soap fans. It is an easy value-added writing tie-in that reaches out to the fans. In our imaginations, our shows continue long after they’re off the air. When mentioned on a current show, it only winks at us and let’s us know someone else agrees.
I loved the twist by having Loving’s major storyline mention as well as the town because I was a fan of the show and sad when it was canceled. Frank and Ron are doing a great job and I love that they have respect for Daytime dramas that once aired on ABC. I would love it if they can work in somekind of easter eggs about other shows, like Edge of Night.
I agree, it would be nice to see a reference to Ryan’s Hope and Edge of Night.
Now it would be really interesting if Alex Masters should turn up.
The character appeared on Loving, The City and a cross-over storyline with OLTL
Some of it is good, but too much junk is being put in. I’m still waiting for the supposed great year, right now it’s just flat.
Amen to that Trudy.
Simply clever! Love the twists and how excited to see what is on the other side of the door. Keep showing all our fav vets mixed in with the newer characters – keep a bit of the old and the new! Loved that Sonny was no where to be seen 🙂
Agreed! Anytime we are spared “The Three Faces of Sonny C Saga” it is a great day. Ever notice, there is but a trio of emotions MB possesses? There’s “Sunny Sonny,” where he’s all smiles and dimples, “Sulky Sonny,” where he’s got the stony, silent glowering thing going (default setting) and then (watch out!) there’s the “Simmering Over Sonny,” when he explodes in this “off-his-meds” madness!!!! Just way tooooo predictable after these oh so many years…..
LOVE your characterization of the few faces of Sonny! But lets we forget there is also the – Supreme Sonny! You remember him, the one where he can do no wrong but everyone in town can do no right? Talk about no moral compass or compassion or really anything beyond I am right and if you do not agree, well, here is my gun, let’s see what happens.
“Well, here is my gun, let’s see what happens…” Priceless, and oh so true!!!! You nailed it….have a feeling that one is going to be the prevailing “Face of Sonny” very soon….
I believe there were at least three instances of it last week alone……I feel this should be a trend soon, how may times per week sonny “threatens” with his gun – because we all know, that is the only power he truly has, he knows how to use a gun!
I will defer to you on that matter, Samantha….quite frankly, I pretty much zone out whenever Sonny is on these days, my eyes glaze over and I temporarily depart from my usual rapt attention…due to MB’s boring and predictable portrayal.
I never watched those other two shows, so I didn’t get any reference, but I’m sure that those who did watch them got a kick out of the references.
but I’m enjoying GH! I was watching it yesterday wishing it would go on for hours! 🙂
I agree!!! I wish it were at least 2 hrs!
Seeing pics of Gwyneth, Cabot and Trisha was priceless! Christine Tudor was dynamite.
Right on, Joel!!!
I agree please bring back Gwyneth Alden AKA Christine Tudor she is great!!!
Fantastic twist. Since they can’t use Llanview or Pine Valley; glad to see Corinth.
Glad but surprised as Loving was also an Agnes Nixon creation.
Perhaps a very thinly-veiled swipe at “Prospect Park??????”
Another great episode!!! I didn’t watch Loving or the City but knew a little about them. I think it’s great that they are using crossover type references. Could this mystery person just be so evil that they had to borrow from another show? Could the connection that ties all of our known villians just be that this is someone that all of the villians go to get their poisons from? Is this person someone who creates and tests poisons and genetic mishaps on villians and their nemesis’s? I thought it had to be a Cassadine or a Jerome… but now I am stumped and intriqued! GH is must see!!!
Can someone sorry I do not get it what is the point of Emma Sams/Holly. TG needs to retire the man is 66 and he is way long in the tooth for these silly escapades. I saw 10 minutes of the show today and turned it off I was embarrassed from Richard Simmons and Lucy Coe’s stupid overacting.
Here, here on your comment regarding the walking embarrassment called “Richard Simmons.” That tragic ensemble he sported made my eyes hurt, but not as much as my ears did from his shrieking diatribe….now that all has been forgiven, may we please dispense with any further return appearances from that deluded nutcase? His ill-timed antics completely put a damper on the occasion, as did Lucy’s usual attention-grabbing behavior…..their little brouhaha made such a mockery of the event, which was already pathetic enough, given it was a bargain basement bar wedding. That being said, the flowers were gorgeous, as was Maxie’s dress and choker…(not so much the hair though…) Hey, did anyone else notice that when she was seated during RS’s temper tantrum that her necklace was missing??? Did I miss her removing it, or was this just a continuity flub? It magically reappeared in time for the nups and her labor to commence….just asking. Lastly, while we are talking frocks, does anyone better demonstrate just how bitchen and becoming basic black can be as our beloved “Dr. O?” The “Duchess of Darkness” always seems to get it oh so perfect, right down to her jaunty chapeaus, stunning scarves and rocking-croc tote (Large enough to conceal a change of identity and a bottle of”MJ Juice,” but not so immense as to be obtrusive.) Somehow, this “Valkyrie”-loving vamp finds time to put her best fashion foot forward no matter what pressing evil-doing is on her agenda. Gotta love the woman!!!!! P.S. The “Divine Devane” also made quite the style statement the other day with those kick-ass stiletto boots…wonder if she and KM shoe shop at the same place????
I cannot for the life of me, figure out why Richard Simmons should EVER be back on this show. I mean, someone explain it to me! Lucy gets on the very last nerve I have (although her haircut looks great) Maxie’s hair was hideous at the wedding-otherwise (without Richard) the wedding was fine. Dr. O is crazily awesome & Anna, well, what can I say? She is just IT. Love her. As for Tony Geary being too old, NO. He is NOT. He still has it in spades. Will love him forever & Holly is totally a part of things because of her long history with Robert, Sean, Tiffany, etc.
@Gloria….It was one thing to have RS on as a part of the 50th Anniversary….he is a memorable legacy character, so I was not opposed to his appearance, per se. However, anyone who recalls him from GH back in the day would describe him as sweet, caring, a tad eccentric, but basically a very nice person. Problem is the demented, campy loon that he returned as this year bears no resemblance to his role of yesteryear. It’s more like the real life RS who has repeatedly shown up on the David Letterman Show displaying increasingly bizarre antics, not to mention playfully begging the host to take him fishing(?)….just really off-the-wall stuff. It’s quite painful to watch and really not even funny because you truly doubt the sanity of the man….I haven’t watched The Late Show in eons, but I definitely saw my fill of that shtick. To feature Richard in this state on GH once was more than enough… twice was simply unforgiveable!!!!! As for Luke, he is GH…and as resident super anti-hero, he will never retire, just eventually fade away on his own terms. Although, I must admit that worn out junta look he was rocking on Friday’s episode was not his best…and oh, what was up with Holly’s eyebrows? I mean, what was UP with them, as they never moved down???? She seemed constantly surprised…other than that, glad to see her back, too. Most of the vintage cast members have been really great this year…still need more Frisco, Robert and Noah, and please, a lot less Lucy. I know I catch much flack for my critiques of her, but at least you (and k/kay!) back me up on this. Thanks, ladies!!!
That’s a shame that you turned off the show, k/kay, because Richard Simmons was a very minor background player to what was an otherwise tremendous Friday cliff hanger episode. Personally, I don’t care for Richard on the show either, but I understand what they were trying to do. A little light-hearted comedy to balance out all of the drama.
As for Tony Geary, sure he’s getting older, but aren’t we all? He’s still awesome in my book, and I love seeing him do the adventure/mystery type of storylines. He’s a GH institution and I hope he’s around as long as he wants to be.
It was all lost on me. Didn’t watch Loving or The City. So all of this is new to me. Could be interesting to see where the storyline would/could go.
Love It, I Loved Loving!
I keep thinking is it possible somehow britt is Anna’s daughter
I think it was clever! I liked the nod at Living/The City… I think they ought to bring in some of those characters if only for an arc! Perhaps this could lead to a rebirth of Loving online????
That’s really cool that they did that for Loving/The City!
I got into the show when that story was happening and when they changed to The City, I thought that was bold and really cool.
Lucy’s hair is shorter! I liked her hair longer..That’s my opinion.. She has gorgeous hair! Thick!
GH is SMOKIN HOT!!!!!! Who is locked in that room when Luke opened the door? Could it be Robin or someone else??? We will all have to tune in on Mon. to find out! So suspenseful!!!!!!!!
I really got excited when holly mentioned being in some small town in Pennsylvania. I knew exactly what was coming next. The set doesn’t compare to the original Alden living room. That was perhaps one of the most beautiful best constructed sets ever made for a daytime drama. I think the scene designer won many Emmys for his work. I could see how GH was trying to imitate it, and I understand that budget is always an issue these days, but I was distracted during these scenes because this faux Alden living room sucked compared to the one from Loving. Also, wasn’t Deborah Brewster the last inhabitant of the Alden mansion when the show went off the air? Why would she have photos of gwyneth (?!), Cabot , and Trisha lying around? And the photos weren’t distressed enough if they had been in some abandoned room for 18 yrs.
WELL I think its is faision, or it might be ROBIN, OR JERRY JACKS. BE hind that door.OR THIS MIGHT JUST BE AWAY THAT , THE WRITER ARE TRYING TO BRING JASON BACK IN THE PICTURE. FASION might have pull him out of the water thats why they have notfound his body.
It was a fun week on GH. Frank & Ron obviously respect and love the soaps and enjoy throwing in some nods to daytime’s history. There’s also enough comedy to counterbalance the drama. They take the show seriously but at the same time aren’t afraid to make fun of themselves. It’s all about the entertainment, folks. Y&R show runners could use some advice from these two men.
Some random thoughts about GH:
1) I’m sad that Connie’s going, and I’m sad that Sonny is still on the show. No offense to Mr. Benard, but that character has been played out. Unless he’s going to finally grow up, I have no use for this character. Maybe an interesting twist would be for it to be revealed that he was in law enforcement the whole time, like CIA or something like that. Anyway, I’m glad that Frank and Ron have the wisdom to not overplay this character, so I guess I can deal.
2) Where’s Laura? She lights up the screen, and this new stronger incarnation is a delight. I think the people want to see Laura. She’s adored, and she brings more fans to the show.
3) Still not digging Franco/Silas/Kiki, and I wish the two shows could have reached an agreement. It would have been best for the fans and the actors, who are the ones who suffered, not the idiot executives who run these networks and studios.
4) I’m LOVING (pun or no pun intended lol) the Britch, Dr. O, Felix, Anna, Duke, Luke, Holly, Mac, Felicia, Maxie, Sabrina, Patrick, Little Emma, Tracey, AJ, etc. I also love how the vintage characters come and go as needed. It’s a lot of fun, and always something to look forward to. Who’ll pop up next? hehe
I hope it is Christine Tudor as Gwenyth Alden!
Me too! She is the best actress to ever be on day time TV and her fans want her back! Make it happen GH
I agree – So over the Sonny issues and glad Frank and Ron realize that the show other people on it, some terrifically amazing actors and deep wonderful characters that need to be explored further, that need to be embraced fully and shown much more often!
I am curious of about Sam and Silas, I like the changes in him so far, mostly due to him and Rafe. Kiki I feel they are trying to force a Michael/Kiki pairing and as much as the chemistry is there, the S/L is lame so far. Franco – I like how Carly can see something better in him, especially given how horrible she was (you know stealing her mother’s husband but now they have a great relationship)
I LOVE Felix. Sabrina is running thin on me, but I absolutely love how they have redeemed Brit! Best move ever having Dr. O as her mother!!!!!! More Emma please 🙂 Hating Tracy just baiting AJ, come on – own up to the family member in trouble and don’t goad him to fall off the wagon when he has worked so freaking hard. He paid for his sins and feels deep remorse for his actions – move on Tracy, find another enemy (how about another corporate to take down……maybe run by someone’s long lost child – I feel Mac needs one of those)
I didn’t watch Loving/The City when they were on but have watched clips and episodes on youtube. I can’t wait for Monday or whenever we get to see what’s behind the door Luke opened.
I hope it is Christine Newman as Gwenyth Alden
The thing that would tie this all into a nice and tidy package is to have Alex Masters (Randolph Mantooth) turn up. He was aware of Tracey Quartermaine’s activities on the City.
Sheer brilliance….
Or Jonathan Matalaine, aka “The Devil!” Remember that storyline with John O’Hurley???? Would explain a lot with all these nefarious members of this mysterious league of evil…Maybe even Roger Howarth as yet another character…he played “Kent Masters” on the show. Does anyone remember him?????
I am not watching GH any more, but I watched Loving/The City and it’s very cute that they did this. I think it could be very exciting to tie in Loving somehow. I’d definitely tune back in. I tried to give GH a shot but after the Nurse’s Ball I lost interest. If they use the vets more, I’d reconsider.
LOL. I didn’t watch Loving or The City so I had NO idea what they were talking about until someone on another board explained it to me.
I don’t know if these nods to never especially popular and eventually cancelled soaps is such a great idea. From other responses here it was obviously appreciated by some who watched but for others like me who didn’t can be a little off putting. Instead of actually telling me a coherent story I feel like I must have missed an episode…or a hew hundred.
So who (or what) is in the basement? Caleb Morley? Barnabas Collins’s cane? Delia Ryan? I mean, really…is this stuff actually leading somewhere storywise or is it just stuck in the past?
And speaking of stuck in the past, I’d actually have laughed if it were Richard Simmons tied up in the basement 🙂 Stupid but at least a joke accessible to everyone.
It would be wonderful to see more of Loving in any fashion. It was such an underrated show . God knows I need a reason to into this show has it is
I loved it! I thought the entire week of GH was fantastic. When Luke opened the door and went into the secret passage way, and the show ended without us finding out what was in there, I was disappointed. But in a good way, lol. As in I can’t wait to watch on Monday and find out what happens next. What a great cliff hanger!
From the return of Sean Donely after all these years, to the hilarious Tuesday episode with the karaoke, complete with Dr. Obrecht singing, and Mac and Kevin bringing back Norma and Eve, to all the twists and turns with Luke and Holly, Duke getting drugged, Britt getting arrested, and everything else, GH is on fire again!
Sensational!!!!! This could be a huge story line that could tell the tale of all tales. If they are smart, they could use Corinth as the town Obrecht and Faison used to experiment and test their dangerous plan. They can use the Alden’s as a family who had ties to Faison. I would love to see any alive characters pop up. Is Gwyneth still alive? She would make an awesome addition to GH if her family ties are traced to PC. Remember, she married into the Alden’s.
I agree with you, totally Darnell. I think Gwyneth is alive. We never saw a dead body. It would be the best if Christine L. Tudor came back and reprised the role of Gwyneth Alden!!
Fanstic idea!!!!!
General Hospital
GH and OLTL Alum Patrick J. Gibbons Reveals the Story Behind Writing Trina’s Song on ‘General Hospital’ (Exclusive)

At the conclusion of today’s August 21 episode of General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) sings a lullaby to baby Dez, that went into a montage to close out the episode as her father Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) reports to Pentonville and winds up in his jail cell.
However, in a fun fact, the song entitled, “A Lonely Heart To Give” was actually written by none other than former One Life to Live and General Hospital actor, Patrick J. Gibbons.
Daytime fans first met Gibbons as Sam Manning on One Life to Live. At the time, when he started on the soap, he was just 5-years-old. Gibbons played the part from 2010-2013 on ABC and Prospect Park’s editions of the show. Fast-forward to 2018, Gibbons shows up on General Hospital as Wyatt Hoover, the scout who seemed always be injured, but in the thick of the drama. Patrick had appeared on GH multiple times as Wyatt including: 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER’S DEATH CAME THE INSPIRATION FOR HIS SONG
Now in 2026, General Hospital fans are getting to learn about another side of Gibbons’ talent as a songwriter and guitar player after “A Lonely Heart to Give” debuted today! Michael Fairman TV caught up with Patrick, who is now a senior at Penn State entering his final year as a finance major, to get the back-story of how his song wound up on GH!
Gibbons explained he wrote the song in honor of his grandmother who passed away a few years ago with whom he was, very, very close with. “Randomly, my grandmother had a downfall and passed away during the second semester of my sophomore year. I was in my dorm a lot and I was just playing with my guitar. And at the time, I was really into finger-style playing. I wrote the lyric and music to it (with a little help from my guitar teacher Lou), and my mom showed the rough demo to Frank Valentini (EP, General Hospital). He’s like an uncle to me. Frank loved it so much he said, “Finish that up. I want to hear the whole thing, and I want it on the show.”
MAKING MUSIC FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL
Gibbons and his parents took the next steps! “So now, all we needed was a female voice, because I thought that would fit the song well,” Patrick shared. “At the golf club we go to my parents were at a dinner. They liked the singer that was performing and spoke to her about the song, and she says she would like to bring it to her ‘boss’ who ended up being Eric Bazilian of the Hooters fame!” (Bazilian also wrote the smash hit song “One of Us” for Joan Osborne).
Next, “We went in the studio and recorded it and the song came together and it was beautiful. We loved it. They loved it at General Hospital and now they’re putting it the show and they are coming in with a piano, instead of a guitar. Paul Glass, the GH musical director, has been keeping us updated over the last six months of how it was coming along, and when it would air, and how GH put their own arrangement to it. I can’t wait to see and hear what they did with it.”

PATRICK’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE FAMILY
Everyone knows that the One Life to Live extended family share a very tight bond, and Patrick said he does stay in touch with a few of his former One Life to Live co-stars, especially those from the Manning family! “I stayed in touch with Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair) and sent her little videos here and there. She was like my second mom for five years. We keep in contact with Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr) over X the most, and she can’t believe how big I’ve gotten. Like, none of them can! (laughs). I also loved working with Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) and Trevor St. John (ex-Todd and Victor Jr.), and to me since I was so young, they were just my friends, ‘Roger and Trevor,’ not Todd Manning or Victor Jr.”
It was a trip to California and a visit to Port Charles that ultimately led to Gibbons second soap role of Wyatt Hoover. Patrick explains, “In 2016, Frank Valentini invited us out to Los Angeles to visit the set of General Hospital. I think he heard me say, ‘This is so much fun. I miss being on the set.’ He goes, ‘You should come out. I’ll bring you on the show. We can make you a character.'”
A few years later, Patrick’s dream became a reality! “Then, by the summer of 2018, I was playing Wyatt, the scout, and shared scenes with Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and the best was when I shared a scene with Roger Howarth and Michael Easton (ex-John, OLTL and ex-Silas, Finn et al, GH), it was like chemistry from the old days.”

IT’S ALL IN THE NUMBERS
As to his future aspirations, it’s a career in the finance game that has piqued Gibbons’ real-life interest. But never say never to a return to acting. Patrick explained, “I’ve always enjoyed numbers. And on top of that, one of the biggest parts of finance is being personable and outgoing.”
He continued, “That’s one of the greatest skills I developed growing up. I really love the markets. I’m super interested. I’m never going to close the door to acting. I’m always open to that because I just love it so much. It’s such a great art.”
Take note! If there are any investment bankers or private equity folks among the GH faithful looking for a young analyst next year, Patrick’s DMs are open. You can find him on X at @PatrickJGibbons.”
So, what did you think of the song sung by Trina on today’s GH that was written by Patrick J. Gibbons? Did you enjoy Patrick’s performances as One Life’s Sam and GH’s Wyatt? Would you like to see him back on GH at some point? Let us know via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Admits That He Didn’t Expect the Role of Michael Corinthos to be Recast, and Would Consider Working on Another Soap (Exclusive)

Chad Duell, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor, who stepped away from the pivotal role of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, opened up about: his previous decision to leave the series after nearly 15 years, where’s he’s at now after time away from the demands of a daytime soap opera, and took a stroll down memory lane with some of Michael’s most-acclaimed storyline during his run, during a livestream chat on August 19 on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.
Viewers last saw Duell on-screen as Michael in January of 2025, and with his successor in the role, Rory Gibson making his debut at the GH Nurses’ Ball in episodes that aired later in May. It was clear that during the conversation, Chad was a bit surprised that the GH brass decided to recast him when he thought he was just taking some much needed time off.
Burn-out of the daily grind of being on a soap was definitely a part of Chad’s decision to take a break. Duell explained “People know when you’re doing something for so long or your character is kind of in the same place for so long or doing the same stuff over and over again, you do get a a little burnt out, you get a little stiff, stale, a little stiff at times. I didn’t want that to be any sort of lasting impression. I have 15 years of a body of work of I’ve done on that show, which is fantastic.”

WHILE CHAD WAS AWAY GH RECAST MICHAEL CORINTHOS WITH RORY GIBSON
Chad shared, his mindset when leaving GH was, “I’m taking some time away, we’ll see what happens.” Then he added, “Obviously, they decided to go in a different direction with Michael when I was gone. I didn’t think they were going to bring somebody back in my place. But you know, it’s the business. You never know what can happen.”
Duell also shared he has not watched a single episode of General Hospital since he left the series, but now feels he reenergized following the loss of his father and stepping away from the GH, “I’m in a place now mentally, where I’m ready to sink my teeth into it again.”

Even though he is no longer Michael on GH, Chad was very happy with his final storyline where Michael was set on fire when a bomb exploded at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse. “It was fun to put him in a dangerous situation, because I was wanting Michael to be in something scary instead of trying to be a hero character or just things happening around him, but to be the center point of tragedy happening to him. (I always saw) Michael as the heart of the (Corinthos) family.”
When Michael was badly burned the show chose not burn his face, which normally a soap does when they are recasting role and switching actors. Chad weighed-in, “They didn’t burn my face because I told Frank Valentini (EP, GH) I’m willing to come back. It was just a little bit of a break. So, I assumed that if they would have burned my face, they could have brought somebody back looking different than me… if that’s what their plan was.”

MEMORABLE MICHAEL STORYLINES
One of Chad’s most memorable performances was the in the storyline of Michael’s rape while he was sentenced to prison in 2010 and the confession of it in 2011. “It was so well-written and I was very nervous,” recalled Chad. “When I get really nervous about something, it ends up being really good when I do it, because it just means I care a lot about it”
“I have to put a lot of effort and work into it, and I really want it to be good. I was working with Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) and Steve Burton (Jason) a lot during those scenes, and Laura Wright (Carly). It was great working with Steve and Dominic, especially, during that storyline.
A NEW SOAP ROLE FOR CHAD?
As to a future soap opera role, Chad is open to the idea and would love to jump back in to a juicy role, “I know people over at The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. They know that if they’re interested, I would love to come in for a screen test or something, and they can see what I’m doing.”
Meanwhile, Chad has been busy putting out new music under the moniker Duelly and during the interview he explains how he creates his EDM tracks and much more. You can stream his latest single, Static in the Quiet Room on Spotify, Apple Music and You Tube Music.
You can check out the full conversation with Chad Duell below.
Now let us know: what show would you like to see Chad cast on down the line? BTG, DAYS, B&B, Y&R, or a new role on GH? What did you think of his thoughts on the casting switch while he was away in the role of Michael? What was your favorite Michael storyline during Chad’s 15-year run on the ABC soap opera? GENERAL HOSPITAL: Ric’s History of Jealousy Where Elizabeth is Concerned Has Come Back Around

On General Hospital, Ric Lansing (Rick Heart) is about to fall back into dangerous old patterns by the foreshadowing during the Wednesday, August 19 episode. After first coming to see his brother, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and telling him of his plan to propose to Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) his longtime love tonight, Sonny has concerned.
Next, Sonny reminds his brother of what has happened in the past, when things have gone south with Elizabeth and wonders if it’s too soon for him to propose to her. What Ric did not tell Sonny is that he has seen the developing closeness between Sonny’s son, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Elizabeth, which is propelling his urgent need to propose.
Meanwhile, Dante ran into Elizabeth at the park during a break from their mutual team softball games. She needs help with a bookcase after the game at her house. Dante wants to put it together for her. Later, Dante arrived at Elizabeth’s house, limping after injuring his knee during the game. Head nurse Liz wanted to check out the injury as much as Dante protested, which required him to take off his pants.

RIC BEGINS TO UNRAVEL
Outside Elizabeth’s widow, Ric arrives with a bouquet of roses and the engagement ring. When he leers through the widow he is shocked to see Elizabeth rubbing Dante’s leg while Dante is in his boxer/shorts. He storm troops into the house, demanding to know what is going on here? Both Elizabeth and Dante look surprised by his reaction. In the pick-up of today’s Thursday, August 20 episode (see GH video teaser below), viewers will learn the upshot for all three characters.
A VENGEFUL PAST
As longtime GH fans know, Ric has done some horrible, vengeful things in regards to Elizabeth starting back in 2003 after she lost her baby after Ric’s ex, Faith Rosco pushed her down a flight of stairs. Ric accused Sonny for the accident and to get revenge, Ric kidnapped Carly (who was married to Sonny at the time), and stashed her in a panic room below the house where he was living with Liz.
On top of that, Ric fed his wife Elizabeth birth control pills to keep her from getting pregnant so that they could raise Carly’s baby together after it was born. Eventually, Elizabeth found Carly in the panic room but ended up having a pulmonary embolism. When she woke up in the hospital, Elizabeth was all confused by what happened, and Ric convinced her that her vision of Carly was just a bad dream. Eventually, Elizabeth learned the horrifying truth and divorced Ric.
Years later, Ric noticed the connection between Elizabeth and “Jake Doe” who eventually turned out to be Drew (Billy Miller) A jealous Ric hired Hayden Barnes to show up and claim to be “Jake’s” wife. Elizabeth stepped aside, and when Ric planned to propose to Elizabeth at the 2015 Nurses Ball, Carly exposed his manipulations, and Elizabeth dumped him yet again. And those are just two examples of the lengths Ric will go to for Elizabeth!
So, we ask you, given the history of Elizabeth and Ric, how do you see this playing out with Dante in the picture? How will Ric derail their growing bond? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
