GENERAL HOSPITAL: Chase Learns He Can’t Father a Child

By Michael Fairman

The results are in, and according to Willow’s (Katelyn MacMullen) interpretation of Chase’s (Josh Swickard) lab results, he is unable to father a child, thus closing the loop on why he and his wife, Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) have been struggling to conceive a baby that they want so badly.

If the results hold true (although we know lots of faulty test results permeate the hospital walls), the next leg of the story of just what Chase and Brook Lynn’s marriage looks like, how this plays into the true parentage of Gio Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza), if the couple would adopt, or allow all this drama to implode their relationship remains to be seen.

As has been speculated, many fans believe that Brook Lynn’s child with Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), years ago is actually Gio, although so far, the show has kept his parentage under wraps.  However in a recent interview with TooFab, Giovanni Mazza teased, “I think a lot of fans have been anticipating something coming up.” Mazza added, “We’re really going to explore just who, my character, Gio is.”

In addition, if Lulu (Alexa Havins) reveals this week that she wants Dante back, but then was to learn that Brook Lynn and Dante had a child and its Gio, could you see her moving past that when she and BLQ are mortal enemies? However, the ladies seems to be “OK for now” with Lulu being Brook Lynn’s assistant at Deception?

So, what do you think should happen next? Will Chase tell Brook Lynn the truth that he cannot father a child? Will they adopt? Will their relationship blow up? Will Brook Lynn now want to locate the one child she apparently knows she has? Share your theories via the comment section below.

Knowing these writers… Gio and Emma will start a romance only to find out they too are brother and sister.

Well, that’s not possible because if you might recall, it was a very big deal at the time when Robin was pregnant with Emma, because of the serious concerns of having a child as an HIV-positive mother.

And any other potential baby mamas that Patrick Drake would have had a child with… all three of them happen to be down here in Hell now, and only Psycho Lisa Niles would fit the potential time table. She assures me that she never had a baby.

So whomever the fiddling poolboy’s parents turn out to be, he’s not Emma’s brother. Though he could be her cousin, if he’s Cody’s kid.

I always enjoy reading your comments and thoughts Satan, you do make this site very interesting. My comment wasn’t based in the reality you have explained… more so just at the disregard for GH’s past we, the viewers have recently seen. Much respect to your accuracy, it is always appreciated.

Well said, GH fan.

Keep forgetting to say Satan, I loved you in 1974’s Phantom of the Paradise! Your best movie ever.

Hmmm. Strange plot point to have Chase’s ex-wife be the one to tell the police officer he’s firing blanks.

BLQ would not be supportive of Willow as Brook Lynn was always close with Michael. She lost her ability to sing protecting him from Willow’s nutty twin.

I’d forgotten that Nelle had slashed her throat. Can’t believe they haven’t gotten her back somehow, even though supposedly dead. There’s never been a worse trouble maker, and with Nina trying to mother her, it would be really something. Thankfully, Michael isn’t there for her to chase after, but all the other men, including Cam and trying to take her son away from Willow, oh boy, the possibilities are endless!

She would probably make Nina choose between them!

GH needs to get new writer’s with new and fresh ideas! This senerio with Chase has been revisited several times, remember Molly and TJ! I can’t believe they came back with a similar storyline! Boring!!!

Not only that.. the extremely weak writing that a mouse ran up to the top shelf of the bookcase? And Tracy’s screaming rant was so out of character even for Tracy. Did the writers ever watch the show back in the 70’s, 80’s or 90’s. I wonder what Jane was thinking as she delivered this lines. Jane is a true talent for sticking around.

Tuesday’s scenes seemed inline with traditional Quartermaine interaction. Had to chuckle when Ned told Tracy “Mother, I thought you liked children, you just kidnapped two”.

Since they didn’t actually show the mouse, it crossed my mind that there was no such critter at all, and Tracy manufactured that little scene to get exactly the reaction from Sasha that she got.

I’m not sure exactly WHY Tracy would have suspected Sasha was pregnant, but it’s not like she’s done the best job of hiding the pregnancy, with books on pregnancy and motherhood and laptops open to relevant websites on full display for anybody who happened to walk into the Quartermaine kitchen. And that would certainly include Tracy.

Tracy’s really going to freak out when she finds out Sasha’s kid is a Q.

I am excited that the show is potentially going forward with a plot line in male infertility . In real life , it can happen Hope they will move forward with this plot – especially with Chase being an alpha male

I think Cody is Gio’s father. That would make it interesting. Having Dante the father is predictable. I see Willow and Chase to go closer and maybe be a triangle with Drew

There you go! I said the same thing about Cody and Brook Lyn and yes, it seems like they are going round 2 with Chase & Willow.

Making Cody Gio’s dad would make a Gio-Emma pairing impossible as they would be related. Would the writers be so blind to create 3 insta-Scorpios in one year?

Dante’s the father; no doubt.

No more baby hungry stories!

what the hell is wrong with the writers first they destroyed molly and tj story now there going after chase and brooklyn it make me sick they need new writer because the one that they have suck.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Jonathan Jackson Shares Emotional Tribute to His ‘Nashville’ Leading Lady Hayden Panettiere

The entertainment world has been mourning the loss of Hayden Panettiere, who died on Sunday at the age of 36. Panettiere, who was so familiar to daytime drama fans in the roles of a very young Sarah Roberts on One Life to Live and Lizzie Spaulding on Guiding Light, also starred as an adult in the primetime music city soap opera, Nashville as country and western singer, Juliette Barnes.

Panettiere’s leading man in the series, was none other than six-time Daytime Emmy-winner, Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky Spencer, General Hospital) who played musician Avery Barkley.

The actress’ death is still under investigation in Greenville, South Carolina, now calling in the DEA  after the Greenville County Coroner’s Office said there was “no signs of trauma that were discovered that would have contributed to the death.” Hayden’s body was released to her family on Tuesday, August. 18. It is believed Panettiere died of an “overdose.”

WE GREW UP IN THE INDUSTRY

Jonathan Jackson took to his Instagram on Wednesday night, August 19 to share poignant words in remembrance of his Nashville co-star. “I have no words to express the loss of our beloved Hayden,” began Jackson. “She had such a bright light within her. She was a sensitive soul. Incredibly funny and witty. Amazingly gifted, with a great sense of empathy and compassion. We both grew up in the industry, although she started even younger than me, but we shared that. A silent knowing of how intense the struggles can be.”

Panetierre started in show business in 1990 at only 11-months-old, while Jackson was cast on General Hospital in 1993 as Luke (Anthony Geary) and Lauras’s (Genie Francis) son, Lucky when he was 11-years-old. Jonathan drew on the parallels in their lives for his remembrance to his late former co-star.

“She was an absolute joy to work with. Focused, spontaneous and brilliant,” continued Jackson. “The most important thing between friends and coworkers is trust, and we had this. Elisa (formerly, Lisa Vultaggio) and I both love and cherish her deeply, like our own sister. She holds that place in our hearts. My prayer for her every day we worked together was that she would know how loved she is, and that she would find the peace that she was looking for.”

WE LOVE YOU, HAYDEN

Sadly, Jonathan concluded with, “It’s not possible to express the shock and grief that so many of us feel right now. Our humble prayers are with her family. May God’s angels carry you to your place of rest and true peace. We love you Hayden. You will always be in our hearts. Always.”

Nashville ran for four seasons from 2012-2016 on ABC, and then moved to CMT for its final two seasons from 2016-2018. The actors on the show could also sing and like Jackson, Hayden had a powerful singing voice that was showcased in the series as well as her undeniable acting chops.

Michael Fairman TV previously shared more of Panettiere’s Guiding Light and Nashville co-star tributes here.

So, what did you think of Jonathan Jackson’s very touching tribute to Hayden Panettiere? Did you love them as Juliette and Avery on Nashville? What have you thought about the ongoing investigation into Hayden’s death? Share your thoughts via the comment section.

BRYAN CRAIG’S MEMORABLE RUN AS MORGAN CORINTHOS

Since leaving General Hospital, Craig’s other roles have included: ABC’s Grand Hotel and Freeform’s Good Trouble, along with appearances in Valor, Walker and American Fighter to name but a few.

Bryan appeared on General Hospital for his initial run as Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly’s (Laura Wright) son from 2013-2016. His journey ended when Morgan was presumed dead after a car bomb killed him that was meant for Sonny. Craig later returned for appearances as Morgan in different iterations in 2018 and 2024. Craig won back-to-back Daytime Emmy Awards in the former Outstanding Younger Actor category in 2016 and 2017.

It was back in 2016, that Craig told Soap Opera Digest on his decision to exit General Hospital: “It’s been an amazing journey, but I feel like the time is right for me to say goodbye to General Hospital and Morgan Corinthos. This was not an easy decision and I am extremely grateful to ABC, Frank Valentini, and the entire GH cast and crew for the opportunity and their unyielding support. To the wonderful fans who have embraced and loved Morgan as one of their own, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

So, glad to hear of Bryan’s casting in The Weapon? Are you still holding onto hope that GH will bring back a very much alive Morgan Corinthos that could shake-up the canvas? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

John Oliver Recaps His ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘General Hospital’ Soap Opera Experience on ‘Last Week Tonight’

Published

on

By

John Oliver

Last Week Tonight host, John Oliver had his soap dreams come true on not one, but two long-running daytime dramas, heralding it his “hot soap summer” on the Sunday night, August 16 edition of his HBO series.

As viewers recall, Oliver’s tour of soap duty began back in March when he made a request and an offer to appear in any daytime drama that would have him with certain conditions, which included: having a ridiculous and over the top character name, a juicy storyline, and a slap.

Both Days of Our Lives and General Hospital came a-calling for Oliver, taking him up on his offer and in short order. Oliver appeared on GH in the role of the head of the WSB named  Z on episodes airing July 2-6, and then on DAYS in the role of Salem’s chief water inspector, Devlin St. John, in episodes that streamed the week of August 11.

FIRST STOP, PORT CHARLES

On Last Week Tonight, Oliver shared that both soaps delivered, and then launched into a comedic send-up complete with clips from some of his scenes. Starting with General Hospital.

Oliver said, “To General Hospital’s credit, they met all my requirements and more. First, my character got to arrive by a helicopter flanked by a pair of armed goons. And I got to do a dramatic walk during which I bravely shot in the general direction of a guy who was already on the ground. It’s called being an action star, by the way, unless you’re me or Vin Diesel, you really wouldn’t understand. And then in my next scene, I revealed my true identity. (Oliver played the scene where Josslyn wakes up in a hospital bed with Z standing at the side of her bed introducing himself).

He continued, “As for getting slapped, well, they knocked that and me out of the park too, because it turns out that agent’s mother was not happy with me,” explained Oliver, as they cut to the slap of Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) in the WSB Port Charles bureau office on Z. Oliver screamed, “YES! It has everything! A slap, a dramatic closeup, and me doing a voice so wrong, it is genuinely embarrassing. That was my honest attempt at an American accent. I can’t tell you why it’s southern. I can only tell you I was trying my hardest.”

SECOND STOP, SALEM

Then, came John’s wrap-up of his role of Devlin St. John on Days of Our Lives, the town’s chief city water inspector. “It is on Days of Our Lives I appeared in scenes alongside soap legends like Jackée Harry (Paulina) and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie). And the Days of Our Lives team met my demands in a whole different way because instead of being an international spy boss, they wrote me a character a little more my speed.”

Cut to a clip of Oliver introducing himself as Devlin St. John to Rita. He explains, “I’m the only thing standing between this town and a catastrophic plumbing failure. A literal sewage apocalypse. They made me Salem’s Chief City Water Inspector, which let’s be honest, is perfect casting. If you’re going to bottle my essence and sell it as cologne, it would be called ‘Chief City Water Inspector.'”

DEVLIN’S WIG

The late night host also clarified all the reports, that the wig he wore for his DAYS character he actually brought from home. “Now, as for the hair, I agree, it’s absolutely incredible. It’s been reported this past week that it is a wig I brought to set from home. And while it wasn’t technically from home, we did actually provide that wig, and for good reason,” joked Oliver. “I’ve seen myself act. I knew the hair was going have to do 90% of the work. I’ll be honest, I was going for a healthy John Stamos (ex-Blackie, GH) look, but instead, it appears I ended up looking more like Tina from Bob’s Burgers.”

Photo: Corday Productions

“And if you’re wondering whether I got slapped on Days of Our Lives, not only was I slapped by a man wearing elegant silk pajamas (EJ), I also got to slap him, which felt utterly incredible. But wait, I was also stabbed with a syringe and not once, not even twice, but three different times. And if that wasn’t enough, this happened too.” At that point, Oliver played the clip of Rita using the taser on Devlin.

JOHN OLIVER LEAVES DOOR OPEN FOR A SOAP RETURN

The now late night star-turned-soap actor concluded his segment with, “Are you not entertained? Watching that makes me feel the way I assume Matt Damon felt after seeing the first cut of the Odyssey, both proud and impressed that my body could even do that. Which again, you wouldn’t understand. You’re not an action star like I am now. ”

As he ended his recap, Oliver thanked both soaps for playing along, and noting that neither DAYS or GH actually killed him off! Could a John Oliver return happen down the line? Stay tuned.

Watch John detail his soap dreams come to life on General Hospital and then Days of our Lives below.

Now let us know, what did you think of the performances of John Oliver on General Hospital and Days of our Lives? Did you prefer one over the other or enjoy both of his guest arc visits? Could you see Oliver nominated in the Guest Performer category at next year’s Daytime Emmys, even for a 3-episode run on one of the soaps? Let us know in the comment section.
