GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Brings Out His Inner-Quartermaine and Chooses Monica Instead of Sonny Over the Grandchildren

In a shocker that had many fans on social media applauding; Jason (Steve Burton) finally showed he does believe in his family ties to the Quartermaines, especially when it comes to the mother that raised him, Monica (the late Leslie Charleson). The timing of this moment could not be more profound, in that, the General Hospital family just lost the beloved Charleson this past Sunday at age 79 after a prolonged illness.

On GH, Monica is upstairs and not well at the Quartermaine mansion. So, when Sonny (Maurice Benard) shows up trying to reason with Tracy (Jane Elliot) to give his grandchildren over to Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), so he and Carly (Laura Wright) can see a badly burned Michael (Chad Duell) in the hospital, she refuses. Tracy says this is all Drew’s (Cameron Mathison) fault and since Sonny is a mobster, he should handle Drew accordingly.

Tracy tells Sonny the kids aren’t going anywhere. She reminds Sonny that before he adopted Michael, he was AJ’s son. Then, a riled-up Tracy says, “You know who else wants to see their son, Monica! But, she can’t because you killed him!” Just then, Jason shows up backing up Sonny and telling Tracy she needs to send the children back to Willow to allow Sonny and Carly to be at Michael’s bedside. Tracy stands firm.

Next, Tracy tells Jason that he will have to be the one to tell Monica that the children are being taken from the house; because they are what is keeping her alive at this point. Tracy says Drew just wants to hurt the family and he’s using Amelia and Wiley to do it.

Sonny tells Tracy that now Willow has all the leverage and they don’t. It’s at that point that Tracy looks in Jason’s eyes and begs him not to break his mother’s heart and for once, choose family over Sonny. In that moment, Jason does what many thought was the unimaginable. He tells Sonny he can’t take the children away from Monica as she needs them.

Courtesy/ABC

An upset, Sonny leaves, but outside the Quartermaine front door, he has an attack of chest pains and takes his medication. Back inside, Tracy hugs Jason saying he just made his father, Alan Quartermaine, very proud. Was this the long-awaited Quartermaine breakthrough for Jason? We have always known Monica is his soft spot. Will he continue to fight to keep the kids at the Q’s? Stay tuned.

Elsewhere, Cyrus (Jeff Kober) is brought in for questioning after Josslyn (Eden McCoy) goes to see Anna (Finola Hughes) at the PCPD. Although, she doesn’t have hard evidence or videotape of the incident, from all accounts and her summation after speaking with Felicia (Kristina Wagner), Cyrus is the one who killed Dex. In the interrogation room, Anna lets Cyrus knows she’s on to him. Outside the interrogation room, Josslyn blows up in front of Cyrus, wanting to know why Anna didn’t arrest him. After Cyrus exits, Anna just told Joss she may have blown their chance to trap Cyrus.

Courtesy/ABC

Back at GH, Carly asks Jack Brennan (Charles Mesure) for any help in locating the Russian clinic to send Michael for his burns and reconstructive surgery. Jack tells Carly that the clinic was shut down, but one of the doctors is now working in Germany. Carly begs Jack to look into it to see if there is any way she can help him get Michael admitted there …. is this the way Chad Duell will make his final (for now) exit?

So, what did you think of the stunning moment when Jason chose Monica over Sonny? What is Carly going to do when she finds out Jason did not help her gain access to Michael with his decision? Share your reactions via the comment section below.

I look forward to watching the episode. I love when Tracy gets riled up. lol

Me too! I used to hate Tracy but now I just love her. She is a softer version of her old self but still someone you don’t want to cross!

Exactly, hope she wins this battle with the children. Bring Drew down and Willow. We knew Willow was going to mess up a good thing due to her always flirting with Drew. Better still it is time for her to learn of his sex life with mom. Who better to let the cat out-of-the bag, but Tracy.

If only!!!

I agree, Tracy Quartermaine character have come a long way. Remember she was going to let her father Edward Quartermaine died. I’m now enjoying her and loving the relationship she has with Brooklyn and Cody.

I love Tracy always have but she’s a little softer now! I also love the way she stood up to Sonny and my heart was absolutely breaking when she was pleading to Jason and the look on his face! I know they are actors but that was excellent acting!!!!

As far as I can see, Sonny & Tracy really shouldn’t be fighting each other on this one. They’re both trying to look out for Michael’s children, and keep them out of that three ring dragonshit show with Willow, Pervy Uncle Drew, and Parasite Nina.

And from what I saw today, Alexis is about fed up with Drew as well. So if Tracy needed her own lawyer, maybe she should bring Natasha in on this? Then Diane & Alexis can form a united legal front to protect Michael & the kids from “Team UncleFucka”.

Jason siding with Monica over Sonny? That just pretty much confirms what I thought after Tracy’s scenes yesterday… and that’s the fact that everybody on the GH set probably knew they would be writing Monica’s permanent exit sooner rather than later, and while scenes like this are more “symbolic” than anything, since Monica isn’t actually on screen, you can see some real emotion from Jane & Steve there.

I don’t understand how Tracey can keep the kids. They have no legal rights?? I’m confused

Today’s episode was outstanding. I treasure every moment we get with Jane Elliot, but today was one of her all time greats. And, one of Steve Burton’s best as well.

The writers have taken a lot of (well deserved) flack recently, but they should be saluted for today’s work. So much history was put into Tracy’s conversations with Sonny and Jason. And, we finally saw Jason choose family. Tracy mentioning Alan would be proud resonated with Jason, who still probably resents never reconciling with his father before Alan died.

Elsewhere…Elizabeth and Lucky still have that magic. Dare I say, Gio and Emma might have chemistry. The Felicia and Emma scenes show how you use a veteran to help launch a new character or recast. As for Drew – yeah, I got nothing…

Very well said!!!!

Drew…

Children belong with the mother. A mother brings forth all births; it doesn’t matter what people feel about their character. No male can give birth. Why claim someone’s children when you didn’t birth them? Writers depict reality. Why bad mouth the actors,?

Using your logic, Willow would have no more rights to Wiley than Michael since she didn’t give birth to Wiley. The ability to give birth doesn’t guarantee someone will be a good mother.

Willow didn’t “birth” Wiley. He was her twin sister NELLE’S son with Michael. Willow only “birthed” Amelia. … and it’s bore, not birthed.

This show has changed soo much it’s Not the REAL GH, I started watching over 40 years ago!!! The writers have screwed up every main character and every solid relationship! Sickening and really maddening and Definitely Not worth watching!!

Very well said! Excellent episode and lots of history

Steve, I agree with every point you made. My man quibble with the writing is plot driven history revisionism. Suddenly, Sasha’s parents are Robert and Holly which negates the fact that he was with the current love of his life (Anna) at the time of her conception. And I guess Dante and Brooklyn conceived a child at Camp M’Kay when they were teens. Suddenly, Cody has a crystal clear memory of his 2 friends’ romance despite viewers witnessing him being introduced to Brooklyn as if they were strangers. Moreover, it had been stressed many times that Dante and Brooklyn were always platonic family friends.

VIP Jane Elliot always delivers, she was great today, and can’t; wait for her scenes w/ Carly, Liz and Lucky looked good today, he’s so much better when he’s not throwing himself a pitty party, I’m not liking the new Emma, nothing wrong with the actress, she would of been great playing a new character, just not liking Emma personality change, now if the original actress was playing Emma, then the characters new attitude would be easier to take, obviously there’s something going on for the character change in attitude and tone, and if Brooklyn was playing her knowing she has history with the other actors would of been easier to take, I wanted to laugh when Emma said to Felicia today that she’s 22yo and old enough to be in dive bar, yet the character is now acting more like a 16yo she reminded me of Charlotte who is teenager. Young people usually act out in their teens but what is Emma excuse if she’s 22yo?

Nice to see Jason do the right thing, rather the thing Sonny demanded or Carley wants.

What right thing I’m mad as he’ll at willow she is a good mother. Yes did something we this like but dam that don’t mean u take her kids.

I love the Jason/Sonny dynamic but I also love that his love for his mother took precedence this time.

Loved the scenes between Tracey and Jason. So real, you can feel their sorrow and care for Monica and his love for his mother takes presidence over Sonny and Carly thinking everyone should bow down to their constant needs. Mind you my heart ❤️ goes out to Michael wishing him a full recovery and him stop thinking of Willow and her BS as she FIREbroke this family up. She went out YOU ARE WILLOW. like a alley cat and still sleeping with this bitch. When are and why have they not told her about her bitch mother and Drew slept together. Doesn’t make since to let this cstoryline continue to go on. Not liking what Wilow continue to do, FIRE HER. She can’t even be truthful in her conversation with Wiley about her affair with Drew while his father is fighting for his life. WHAT A BITCH

….and she have the nerve to play the fukkin victim. I’m not liking her right now.

Jason did the right thing. He can help Sonny and Carly find a different way to see Michael. I wish someone would do something about Drew. He is REALLY annoying!

Quite admirable

Loved it… and the timing couldn’t have been better in that Monica….the actress who played her….has since passed. For Jason not to have chosen Monica when he had the opportunity would have been tragic.

Frfr don’t say that she do have a real life family

OMG! I was in tears to see Tracy and Jason connect. I love Jason. To see him lean to the Quartermain side was amazing. Loved the episode!

Loved it

Loved it…Jason loves Monica, she is the only mother he knows. Susan is Jason biological mother. She and Alan Quartermaine had an affair.

I think Jason, Carley and Sonny will “kidnap” Michael and wisk him to new clinic so Willow and Drew can’t find him and then it will be game on!

Liesel should be running the clinic. She will tell Nina but they will keep it from Willow until Michael heals. !!! Liesel will have been healing from tge loss of Britt and they might just find Scotty over there in Germany wooing her back

I loved Scotty and Liesel together. Loved how he called her his Schnitzel. They’ve both lost children and you are right; they could be a source of comfort to each other. I didn’t like the writers breaking them up. It would be nice to learn they’re together somewhere.

When is the last time we saw Liesel ? Is she still on the show?

Omg reality

I’ve been watching GH on and off for over 40 years. The 2 Tracy/Jason scenes yesterday were more profound and emotional than anything I’ve seen on the show in ages. THIS is how a soap is supposed to use its history and legacy vets. Jane and Steve were mesmerizing, they were everything.
Finally, the writers did something so right, these veteran actors were able to knock it out of the park.

Yes, Tracy is one character the writers have written well for.

I agree, a very emotional.

I think it is time for Jason to stay out of Sonny’s business. Years ago it was told that Jason’s head injuries could heal. Why not now? Carla needs to help herself and stop asking help from everybody. I know Jason will help Michael, maybe it is time for Sonny to do his own dirty work and get Drew out of the picture. Just keep Jason clean and out of trouble, his son needs him. Besides he knows that Sasha is carrying Michael’s baby.

I love the relationship between Jason and Monica. I am so sorry about Leslie’s passing. I don’t think you should write her off. Jason needs one person in that family that truly loves him regardless.

I hated it those kids need there mother and Michael needs his parents and Jason. Jason would never let Tracy manipulate him like that she just wants to stick it to Drew Carly and Sonny

As much as I love the Jason/Sonny/Carly trio, I was so happy that Jason sided with Tracy. It’s nice to see Jason balance being a Quartermaine with his loyalty to Sonny and Carly. Sam’s death has changed him. He doesn’t want to take over Sonny’s business, and he’s pushing Sonny’s exit strategy so what happened to Michael won’t happen to Danny. It makes perfect sense for Jason to agree with Tracy. Yes, she used his love for Monica to do it, but I don’t think she expected that to actually do anything.

Jason knew what she was doing by mentioning Monica, and he loves his mother enough for it to work. He looked so touched when Tracy said Alan would be proud of him. Jason knows that Willow’s actions have Drew’s influence written all over them. He didn’t want Danny being raised by Drew when Drew threatened to take Danny from him via Sam’s will after Jason punched Drew. He knows that Michael would not want Wiley and Amelia being raised by Drew, either. It was really nice to see Jason and his aunt Tracy on the same side for once.

I agree with everything that you said.

Jane Elliot is a treasure that we must protect at all costs. I don’t know how long she’s planning on sticking around on this go around, but I hope she’s able to keep going for as long as she wants.

I know she hasn’t submitted her name for the Emmys in a number of years, but I’d love to see Jane put her name in the mix again. What a great story it would be if she were to win, 44 years after her previous Emmy. She did some fantastic work last year, and she’s continuing in 2025. Loved the scenes with her and Maurice with Tracy putting Sonny in his place.

When Steve Burton returned last year, I said that I wanted to see them do something different with Jason, beyond being Sonny’s lackey, and to their credit, they’ve done that. I love the stuff with Jason reconnecting with his Quartermaine side in recent weeks. I think that might be the best storyline they’re writing at the moment.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

By

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
