GENERAL HOSPITAL: Mac and Cody Hug it Out

By Michael Fairman

In a very touching moment on the Friday, August 16th episode of General Hospital, Mac (John J. York) finally buried the hatchet with Cody (Josh Kelly) and accepted and acknowledged him as his son.

The moment is played out after Cody rescues James (Gary James Fuller) from drowning. After he saves the little boy, Mac, Felicia (Kristina Wagner), Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) and Maxie (Kirsten Storms) are all present. James explains he ran away because he doesn’t understand why he has to stay away from Cody. Maxie explains he doesn’t have to anymore and then Mac pipes up that it was his fault that that he couldn’t take riding lessons with Cody.

Mac tells James that his feelings were hurt and he was angry, so he took it out on Cody. Next, James asks his grandfather, why he is upset with Cody. Eventually, Mac tells James that Cody is his son. James asks, “Does that make Cody my uncle?” Cody confirms its true.

Next, Mac explains that he recently found out that Cody is his son, but everything that just happened with James, reminded him that family always forgives and loves one another, even in the face of making each other angry at times.  After Maxie exits with James, the moment many viewers have waited for goes down.

An emotional Cody and an emotional Mac, look at each other, when Mac says his gratitude toward Cody knows no bounds for saving James’ life. Cody jokes he sounds like Spinelli, the son he never had. However, Mac says, “But … I do have a son and l’m looking right at him,” to which Cody responds, “And I have a dad.” The two men share a warm embrace as Felicia and Sasha look on.

That very small moment between father and son was a very big moment in the story. It was played to perfection by John J. York and Josh Kelly. Most of that performance as all in their eyes, making it all the most heart-tugging for viewers of the show.

This moment in the storyline was a long time coming, since the story was put on hold while John J. York was recovering from treatment for his battle with two blood cancers: myelodysplastic syndromes, or MDS, and multiple smoldering myeloma. York returned to GH on-screen back in June of this year.

What did you think of the moment when Cody and Mac truly became father and son to each other? Did it live up to your expectations? Comment below.

The scenes were well played out. The lead-up, with Felicia recapping Mac’s arrival into Port Charles, was well written. Now, where do we go from here? Felicia needs a storyline. Maxie needs a love interest. And, Natalia just needs to go.

I agree with all your character points, although Natalia unfortunately is not going anywhere anytime soon.
GH’s writing team seems to be solidifying core families and bringing them back together. The Scorpio/Jones clan has been fragmented in the past with Anna rarely joining the fun. Now with the addition of Cody (and Sasha eventually), Felicia and Mac hopefully won’t be left to sideline Maxie’s action.
Since James seems to be headed for front burner status with his “Kiss” secret – I am looking forward to GH writers having fun with that one.

Best hug-out ever ! Hope Josh Kelly’s role grows. He was great as Cutter on OLTL and now even better as Cody on GH.

I agree he’s great and he’s a very good looking guy ❤️

Couldn’t care LESS.

We all knew these scenes between Mac and Cody would be terrific – which is why one of the longest waits for DNA was so hard, Kristina Wagner’s rant pulling up Mac’s history when he first came literally out of the water onto the Port Charles docks was superb. Something she rarely gets credit for. An interesting fact: both father and son arrived in PC out of the water – taking another body of water to bring them back together. The ending came as a period on the old GH writing team’s tenure. New episodes after the break supposedly start on the 19th (Monday).

I sincerely hope this story with Cody and Mac doesn’t get dropped like a “Blaze” of a hot potato. There is so much history and questions to uncover with Cody’s birth. GH writers can certainly send Cody and Mac on a mystery hunt to find what happened all those years ago. Did Taub steal him away as a baby and tell Dominique her baby died? Because it does not seem like Cody’s parents were the nurturing types.

The writers have been missing a ton of connections along the way with Dominique’s history. In the short time, the character was on screen – she made an impact and touched many families. That includes the Quartermaines. From what I remember she was Lila’s Goddaughter and they were close. Yet her name hasn’t been brought up in probably a year.

Mac can be kept quite busy introducing Cody to the other half of Port Charles characters he hasn’t met yet. And Robert will not be happy to find out Cody is his nephew. We can all easily see Brother Robert trying to trip Cody up and push a wedge between Mac and his son.

FYI – This is the “new” writers work. They’ve been credited since the August 7 episode. Was nice to see Wagner have a great monologue.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Cullum Kidnaps Obrecht as Britt’s Replacement to Finish Faison’s Final Project

Published

WSB director Ross Cullum is truly as despicable villain as they come, and played with steely intensity by Andrew Hawkes. For the double agents latest crime, you need to look no further than the Friday, June 5 cliffhanger of General Hospital, where in the episode’s final moments he sneaks up on an unassuming Dr. Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) after hiding in the back seat of her car.

Next, he chloroforms her with his intent clear. He plans on forcing her to finish the last leg of Faison’s final project at Wyndemere, since her daughter Dr. Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) left town with Rocco Falconeri (Finn Carr) in tow to get away from Cullum!

In what led to the kidnapping, Cullum had a terse conversation with his business associate and co-conspirator on the project, Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota). It is Sidwell who is preoccupied with wanting to bring Marco’s killer to justice (not knowing it’s the man right in front of him!). Sidwell told Cullum if bringing Marco’s killer to justice wasn’t a priority for the WSB director, then why should protecting Cullum be a priority for him?

SIDWELL VS. CULLUM

The two finally put aside their differences as they have to complete Faison’s final project for it will be highly lucrative for them, useful for their mutual gains, and groundbreaking. In order to do that they need a great mind with a scientific background to finish it up and get them to the finish line since Britt as disappeared.

Later, outside of “General Hospital,” Obrecht is headed back to her car after searching Britt’s office for any clues as to the whereabouts of her daughter. But when she got in the car to drive away, that’s when the aforementioned Cullum strikes!

BROOK LYNN GETS ADVICE FROM A FORMER ADULTERESS

In other key developments, after Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) keeps inserting herself into Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) life, all with the seeming pretense to pay back Chase for helping her clear her name at the trial, and standing by her, she brings good news in person about baby Phoebe’s adoption to Alexis’ (Nancy Lee Grahn) law office to Chase. Once Brook Lynn heard Chase was on her away over with paperwork, she decided to hightail it out of there for an “emergency” appointment for Deception.

As we come to find out, Brook Lynn meets up with Lucy (Lynn Herring) at the Metro Court pool, She then proceeds to inform Lucy about Willow sniffing around he husband. Lucy says she knows a thing or two about being an adulteress. Brook Lynn wants Lucy to help her send a clear message to Willow to stay away from her husband, or else!

Now below, check out the scenes before Obrecht was kidnapped where she visited Willow, Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) and suspects Willow is up to no good.

Then let us know, with Lucy taking Brook Lynn under her wing, what plot do you think the two will come up with against Willow? What do you think will happen to Obrecht? With Lucas also at Wyndemere trying to bait Sidwell into an attempted murder charge, will he winds up thrown in the secret room with Josslyn?
