GENERAL HOSPITAL: Valentin Gets Help From Anna and Flees Port Charles with Charlotte; Is James Patrick Stuart Exiting?
Wednesday’s July 19th episode of General Hospital featured Finola Hughes at her best, as Anna comes to warn Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) that she turne evidence that he is running Pikeman, and that soon Agent Cates (Adam J. Harrington) will be coming for him. She alerts him that she wants him to flee Port Charles with Charlotte (Scarlett Hernandez) right away.
While Valentin admits to his crimes and his involvement with Pikeman, he asks Anna to go on the run with him. She can’t risk it, but he thinks she already put her life on the line to help him. She claims she did this for Charlotte, and if not for her, she’d let Cates have at him.
Anna refuses to go on the run with him and live a life like that. She regrets leaving her daughter, Robin alone once, and won’t sacrifice her time with her grandchildren, Noah and Emma, for any reason. Valentin tells her when the FBI arrives, he’ll be gone, and they will figure out her involvement.

“Don’t throw your life away, come with me,” Valentin pleads.” Anna stands firm and says, “I’m sorry. I love you, but I can’t go with you.” Anna can’t understand why he risked his life for Pikeman. Valentin says it was about Anna. He begins to unravel how he got involved with Pikeman. Valentin admits he almost told her before he was planning to take over but didn’t want to put her in a position where she’d have to arrest him. A tearful Anna says, “And here we are again.” Valentin says that anything good in him is because of her. She says that’s not true, and that he has a good heart. Valentin knows she can’t go with him, but at least she wants Anna to tell him she wants to, even if it’s not true. Anna shares that if she could go with him, she’d do it in a heartbeat. Valentin asks, if it’s true? Anna says, “You’ll never know.” Charlotte arrives looking very concerned.

Meanwhile, Cates comes to see Jason (Steve Burton) demanding information about Sonny (Maurice Benard) and for Jason to admit that Sonny almost killed him a month ago. Cates says the mobster destroyed his life. Jason shouts, “Sonny didn’t destroy my life, you did!” Cates talks about Ava (Maura West) and helping her keep Sonny away from Avery. Looking at the clock, Jason gives up Valentin’s phone, which proves Valentin is running Pikeman. Cates calls for back-up to head to Valentin’s.

Jason comes to the Metro Court pool to tell Carly (Laura Wright) that they will both be free, as he gave the evidence to Cates on who is running Pikeman. And the end of the episode, Cates and the FBI break in to Valentin’s and he is long gone. The final moments show Anna outside in her car. She drives away looking like she knows she put one over on Cates.

Now the question on every GH’s fans mind is, does this mean that James Patrick Stuart is exiting GH as Valentin? Will he just get away and not pay for his crimes? What about his involvement in attempting to send Sonny over the edge, by knowingly paying off the pharmacist to tamper with the dosage in his bipolar meds?
Let us know your thoughts in the comment section, and about the the performance of Finola Hughes, but first check out some of the tense and emotional ‘Vanna’ moments below.
GH is firing or not renewing contracts for all my favorite actors first Howarth then Easton and now JPS. I’m just not happy
It’s beginning to look like Maura West wil be joining that group of ‘A’ listers leaving the show. Very sad.
was this it? its so anticlimactic, feel like there’s still so much missing, and if this what it then I’m thinking the writers decided to just abort the storyline, its off somehow, the explanation for his involvement with Pikeman just doesn’t make sense.
There is no better actor on television than Finola f’ing Hughes. She elevates every scene & takes yer adoring audience on an epic emotional journey with her nuanced performances. She deserves every award. I like the term Mighty Hughes bc she’s just that…a gorgeous, brilliantly talented powerhouse of a performer! We are so lucky.
GIVE FINOLA THAT EMMY! NOW!
I hope this isn’t a final exit for James Patrick Stuart. If it is, I hope we find out if it was his decision or the show’s. If it’s the powers-that-be, I’d be angry and disgusted. The string of characters let go is wrong, yet they continue to bring on new characters with no connection to GH history. The legacy characters and/or legacy families are being diminished…the Quartermaines barely have an original member left, with Valentin’s exit the Cassadines will be done (Alexis hasn’t been a Cassadine for a long time). Laura hasn’t had any of her kids for years (not to mention Kevin is barely on and when he is it’s only minutes) until the announcement that Jonathan Jackson is coming back (for how long is the question. They got rid of fan favorites, Roger Howarth, Michael Easton, just neglected William deVry’s Julian until they blindsided the actor and gave him the boot, too.
If it’s James Patrick Stuart’s decision to leave, then I’d still be hugely disappointed if we’re losing him; I like him. But instead of letting go of the character they could have recast and not boxed “Valentin” into a corner.
Gutting the cast of so many talented stars to pay for Steve “one note” Burton. What a shame. If they write off Ava too (which seems inevitable) I won’t be able to watch anymore after 40 years. There’ll be almost no one left!
I think they are gutting the cast so they can pay for sniveling Lucky Spencer to return.
Man, that’s even worse. Lucky gives me the picks. What on earth is the appeal?

Vincent Pastore of ‘Sopranos’ Fame and ‘General Hospital’s’ Maximus Giambetti Dies at 80

Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.
The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.
As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.

PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL
Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)
According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”
Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.
Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.
In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.
Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
