GENERAL HOSPITAL: Sonny Is Finally Arrested!

On Tuesday’s episode of ABC’s General Hospital, it was time the handcuffs came out for mobster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).

In a showdown between all the Corinthos men, Sonny has no choice but to surrender to his son the cop, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) who arrests his father for the murder of AJ Quartermaine! For many in the viewing audience it was a long time coming for Sonny! After intense scenes between Michael (Chad Duell), where Sonny was staring down the barrel of a gun with a bullet with his name on it, Michael finally puts down the weapon after his brothers, Dante and Morgan (Bryan Craig) arrive on the scene at the brownstone.

Michael is so filled with grief, betrayal, and hatred over learning that it was Sonny who killed his biological father and had lied about for months.  Kudos go to Chad Duell for showing the devastating pain and conflict that Michael was going through as he was about to shoot the man who for years he called his “dad”!  As for Maurice Benard, he delivered another intense performance, mostly with his eyes and little dialog, as Sonny is caught with nowhere to run.   Dominic Zamprogna also had some terrific conflicted moments to play and he delivered, where Dante had to talk down Michael and then deal with Sonny, all the while trying to hold it together in the most horrific of family circumstances.

Later, after Sonny was taken down to the police station and booked for his crime, while D.A. Baldwin (Kin Shriner)smirked through the glass that Corinthos is finally going behind bars,  Michael learns of more betrayal from Morgan and Kiki (Kristen Alderson)! Yup! They knew that Sonny killed AJ …  and even more!  Leaving Michael to head to the bar and who should be there?  Rosalie! (Linda Elena Tovar)

Were you happy that finally Sonny was apprehended?  Do you hope they can keep him behind bars for his crime?  What did you think of the performances of the Corinthos men: Duell, Zamprogna, Craig and Benard?  And, will Michael and Rosalie hit the sheets? Comment below!

The scenes in the brownstone were amazing. I always know Maurice, Dom & Chad will deliver. The one that truly amazed me was Bryan Craig’s Morgan. He was wonderful. What a fine young addition to the Corinthos family.
Can’t wait to see what happens next!

Bryan Craig has certainly grown as an actor. I used to call him one of the Village Idiots (along with Kiki). Now, I really appreciate and enjoy his acting. I think working with such daytime royalty as Maurice Benard and Maura West has really helped shape him as an actor.

it’s amazing stuff…. how far, up the ante, these two “newbies” of General Hospital rivet

standing O

Ava, Morgan, and child

tears for me

There was so much potential but the dialogue just wasn’t there. How can there be tense drama when we all know darned well Michael is not going to shoot Sonny, just as we know Sonny eventually will walk free again? And I’d wager my bottom dollar there will he no explosion when Dante opens the door to the prison holding the four captives. And if, by chance, a bomb does go off, we know Carly and Dante are safe. It’s like wasted time, placing all these characters in peril when there’s no ultimate payoff. Kind of like Dynastys Moldavian wedding massacre that wasn’t.

absolutely and totally agree

ONE HOUR! Yes, one hour on Monday of Michael holding Sonny at gunpoint! What a waste of our time. As far as dialogue, what could Sonny have said. All three of his boys were there and they all knew the truth. Sonny will have to rub shoulders with Johnny Z until Dianne can find a loophole for Mr. Dimples to be set free. I would have Sonny lose everything and have to start over. Maybe go back to Bensonhurst and open a diner?

the scene was about ”emotions” not dialogue..
At times there are no words, just emotions..
Sometimes words are not needed when the acting is great..
In life there are the deep moments when there just are no words to be said, but they shout from the eyes.
The scene was perfect and as it should be .. emotionally intense..

(dialogue would have ruined the moment)

Thank you Timmm for getting it. I understand that there are people who are so captivated by this show that they think it can do no wrong. And, hey, good for them. There was I time I did. I wish I still felt the same. I don’t. I feel embarrassed watching it but, like cigarettes or booze or heroin or some other addictive substance, I can’t seem to give it up. I need GH rehab.

Su00, I can watch my two tabby cats emote for one hour before one swats at the other. There’s plenty of emotion and save for the occasional hiss and the internal growl, no dialogue.
‘What’s the point?’ You might ask?
The point is that Michael was not allowed to be raised by his biological father after Sonny had Jason put AJ on a hook (literally) and kept him there until he signed away his paternal rights to Michael. Michael grew up thinking his father didn’t care for him. Sonny and Carly made AJ’s life a living hell and blocked his every attempt at rehab, vindication, and more importantly, his attempts to forge a bond with his son Michael. The history of abuse is long–Michael should have been allocated more dialogue. This is a case when less is not more.

I agree with you su0000…100%. The scene was a powerhouse of a family coming apart; a man learning a horrible truth about his father’s murder by the hand of the man he called dad his whole life…it was about a father losing a cherished son..it was about brothers torn apart…it was just complete emotional devastation. Perfect the way it was…

I agree with su0000…the emotional tension that only grew as you saw Sonny exposed with all three sons at the same time for the one hour. It was worse for Sonny than getting shot in the first 5 minutes. And he might get off on a technicality but he will always have a life time sentence as to how his kids feel about him.

I don’t know Harry. On the one hand I agree with you…we share a fierce resentment and frustration at how AJ was treated all those years so I definitely get what you’re saying. But I think MIchael showed an ample amount of wrath, disgust, shock, realization, revulsion, hurt…and the piece de resistance (accent on 2 “e”s which I don’t know how to do on this computer!) is that he wanted to revenge AJ by killing Sonny. I don’t know if he would have actually have gone through with it…but the fact that he wanted to FOR AJ was satisfying in and of itself. So for that reason I think it wasn’t less or more but just enough.

You have to admire certain fans for being su0000 supportive, no matter what… To me, the unyielding support and admiration of a despicable character, such as Sonny, is akin to enabling an abuser. He is a mean-spirited, abusive bully. Some villains are worthy of adulation because they have some redeeming qualities. I don’t see anything redeeming about Sonny.

More specifically regarding the absurdity of these scenes, during which Michael held a gun on Sonny (for a seeming eternity), as eloquently stated by others here, we knew shots would never be fired, just as we know Sonny will be out of jail in no time. It’s predictable and pathetic… Why do I keep watching? I enjoy some of the characters and storylines, just not the tunnelvision focus on Sonny and the mob.

it just didn’t ring well with me, either

I’m sorry… Chad Duell is given ALL sorts of material, to echelon his “belong” in Port Charles…. dang ! LOL

and he’s CEO of ELQ

the gun shake was , laugh out loud moments… his , at last, redeeming his real father, AJ… was not believable. in fairness… again… the dialogue just wasn’t their for him to , as well, act out his disbelief and/or anger / rage of his father(s)

Carly was also given opportunity… again, lack of quality script… to further her leading lady status … as Maura West and Michelle Stafford run roughshod over her

how much more was she supposed to tell Franco he’s a freak!

Thank gosh, Franco is moving ON

it’s culminating in good show… it just tends to run short of elation excitement of SHOW

I was more riveted by … Duke and his feelings for his ladylove Anna
I was more riveted by … where does this go with Scotty and Bobbi

I’m becoming more interested in Rosalie…. she’s a hottie

LOL… Heather was right… just open the door…

I hope Madeline takes the fall for Nina… and or brings Ava her baby back… like she did… Abby with Valene… on Knots Landing

I am now hoping… that Johnny Z is brought back… maybe starts working for Sonny… while he’s barred up… and Carlos is released and starts working again.. for Julian…. this would be a fun pairing…. Johnny and Carlos

Yeah I hate to say it, I really do, because I like Chad, but he really didn’t stretch himself far enough in those scenes. He could have done so much more. And a better actor would have. I fear both he and Bryan Craig are picking up some bad habits from Benard. And you are right on the money…..the Duke and Anna scenes were far more interesting. And the over the top melodrama featuring the always dynamic Maura West, psycho Stafford and veteran Mills was far more riveting than the SonnyToons.

i could not agree more…………………

It is funny jonboy talks about how there are people who love the show and makes that into a bad thing. But doesnt realize he is just as bad because he likes nothing about the show complains about it all the time, throws insults at anyone who likes something he doesnt. But welcome to the internet home of trolls like jonboy

wow
Maurice was awesome!!
The Best of Maurice was on my screen yesterday .. A brilliant performance from Maurice!
Chad, Dominic, and Bryan ..
… ALL
……………. BRAVO!!!!!

It is truly amazing that the los I of dialogue was made up but the brilliant emotion shown in the eyes of Chad, Maurice and Bryan. Fabulous job gentlemen!

Here, I agree with you, Miss Suoo.
And I miss Jim (Leave it to Beaver).

I can’t believe you actually arrested sonny I really liked him he was desi arnaz on desi Lucy before the laughter movie if arrested somebody else put Franco in jail with him Franco saws the whole thing Franco actually hurt and killed sonny and Michael I didn’t want too loose sonny I was trying too save the whole show of general hospital now a lot of people on this show I know chad duell too Disney channel I didn’t want too see Michael that mad like terrify Michael really hurted his family and brother and girlfriend Kiki

Franco cause the whole thing please put him in jail with sonny

What was Franco’s crime? Yes, he exposed the truth to Michael, but why should he be behind bars? Sonny should rot in Pentonville for the rest of his life.

Just as I have for DECADES, I shake my head in amazement at people who call what Maurice Benard does acting! He has one expression … he’s laconic, world-weary, and mumbles his dialogue. And the fact that it’s taken THIS LONG to put him behind bars speaks VOLUMES about the incompetence of the PCPD. And yes, he’ll walk on a technicality. I’ve been sick of this character since the days he was exploiting Karen Wexler at the club, and remain nonplussed at the adoration he enjoys from millions of fans. I guess I’m just a lone voice in the wilderness …

Yes, you are lone voice.. lol
Maurice, the actor, is a soap icon..
His acting is superb!
Maurice has a special talent to play the complex character of Sonny..
Yesterday Maurice was outstanding!!!
I felt Sonny, his remorse and pain..
Maurice is truly one of the great ones..

without him I would not watch the show

Bill, let me add my voice to the wilderness… We are definitely on the same page.

First, I agree with you about Benard’s acting abilities—he also likes to throw in a touch to his ear from time to time…

My main gripe with GH is its overuse of Sonny and the mob, which has been the show’s focus for more than 2 decades. Undoubtedly, Sonny should be in prison for life, but, yes, he’ll be out on a technicality before you can say “Merry Christmas.” For too many years, GH was way too dark, largely because of the Sonny factor. When Frank Valenti and Ron Carlivati took over, they changed things somewhat, but in recent months they have put Sonny back on the frontburner again.

Why don’t I like Sonny? He commits crimes, even murder, and gets away with it every time. He is an abusive, foul-mouthed, ill-tempered violent jerk who yells all the time. How on earth can a fan root for such a character? And it’s clear that FV and RC want us to root for Sonny and Carly as a couple, but they are both heavily flawed, self-involved, selfish, narcissistic louts. I would root for them under one condition: they get together and move away from Port Charles, never to be heard from again…

Soap operas are not love-ins..
People aren’t happy for more than a week in soap opera all relations/maragies are doomed from day one…
there are no happy ever after in soaps..
As for not liking mob stuff..
GH is about mob stuff,, read the description of GH..
so to complain about not liking mob stuff when that is the core of the soap, is not logical. LOL
The main stars in all the soaps get away with murder, and a variety of treacherous crimes, every time there is an out for them..
unless they are leaving then they will be killed or sent to prison but with a main character that is rare in all the soaps…

General Hospital awesome and is what is suppose to be..
If one does not the theme of GH, then why do they watch it?
they must really like something about GH to suffer through it..

GH is about crime families and their lives of crime..<—
It is about deep dark drama and yet normalcy ..
It has love and hate and always intriguing..
the characters of GH are all very different form each other, a huge variety of personalities and their stories reflect them..GH is variety of people and their lives..
It has humor and the best actors ever on a soap.. 🙂 🙂

Maurice was stellar in his performance with his sons….

Hey James,

Now…speaking of THE WILDERNESS in general, imagine this: If I was lost in the wilderness (in the cold and all by myself) and I happened to run across (or whatever) someone like GH’s Sonny, t-r-u-s-t m-e…I would take one look at Sonny and I would r-u-n for my life!!!!! (1) I would be a CRAZY FOOL if I let Sonny help me and (2) and I would be in EVEN WORSER SHAPE if I let Sonny help me. No Thank You. Bottom Line Here: I think I would be better off hiding elsewhere in the wilderness until REAL AND ACTUAL HELP would arrive to rescue me. And, who knows…maybe a TALKING WILDERNESS BEAR (or whatever) would find me, take me in and shelter and protect me…LOL!!!!! BTW…an idea: THE BEAR would VERY ANGRILY take one look at Sonny and (from there) Sonny would be NO MORE…LOL!!!!! Problem f-i-n-a-l-l-y SOLVED!!!!! Again, just an idea…LOL!!!!!

Take care, dude. Peace.

SU0000

GH is not a show about “mob stuff’, at least it didn’t start out that way. I’ve watched since 1978 and I assure you it was not always a mob show.

Bill you are not alone. I have despised that character forever. So many core characters have been sacrificed for Sonny. It’s sad.

Jaybird, funny stuff as always! Your bear already sounds like a much more appealing character than Sonny!

You are not the lone voice. If I had a dollar for every time he loses his train of thought and has to say “ya know” or when he stumbles over a character’s name I’d be a rich man right now.

It’s a very good thing MB’s Sonny didn’t have a lot of dialog in that pivotal scene because he would have mumbled and fumbled and general messed it up. As for Sonny emoting with his eyes, yeah right.

Chad Duell on the other hand, was in top form. Kudos to this young actor.

General Hospital was completely hijacked back in the 90’s when Bernard’s dimples took on a life of their own and propelled him to romantic lead. Guza did a fast forward by trying to turn a hospital show into Sopranos light. There are still a lot of viewers out here who resent this move to gangster land and the Sonny & Carly Show.

I agree, Engrady. Now, I hate Sonny, and I agree that Mumbles often phones it in. But every now and then he has his moments and he can pull it off. I still see his spark now and then.
I love Maurice Benard but maybe it’s time for him to take a sabbatical.

I am loving that the voices in the wilderness are adding up!

Engrady Pind, “hijacking” the show is exactly what happened. And I think it was, in part, an attempt to cash in on the success of “The Sopranos.” But it was misguided, and it has derailed a once-great show. I hope GH can get back on track soon.

I love GH but I’m not sure what it wants to be. It’s still described as a “medical” drama, yet the “about” page sums up the show as “love, danger and mind blowing plot twists…with contemporary story lines and unforgettable characters.” I think that’s pretty true to form; the days of Steve Hardy and stories revolving around the hospital are long gone. But then again so are Luke and Laura, Sean Donnelly, Casey the Alien (LOL), Lee and Audrey. We’ve got to accept it’s a different show, a different time.

I personally think it does have a good mix; it still has many scenes take place at General Hospital, a few of the vets are still part of the canvas, it does have romance, it does deal with crisis at the hospital, and the mob is not the center of the show. Sonny is a major player not because he’s a mob boss…but because he has 4,150 children by 3, 222 women on the show so seems to be everywhere we look. Hahahha. Hmmm. True, no?

sounds like a lot of men here are just jealous he is the best by far on daytime.

You probably wish you looked like him Bill…………

If that’s the best daytime has to offer no wonder the genre is in trouble.

Ummmm …. hardly! If I were to trade-in to look like anybody from GH, Sonny would be close to the bottom of the list. Too beady eyed and Sicilian. I’d rather look like Ryan Peavey … although I guarantee you he wouldn’t take the trade!

I didn’t believe Michael would shoot Sonny but it would have been nice if they let him punch Sonny in the face—-or spit on him, something like that–all the pent up rage should have come out in some form to make it a bit more realistic. Also, the scene reminded me very much of the scene when Sonny was going to kill himself and his sons talked him out of it–very similar in tone. However overall I thought the confrontation was good, but with a bit of tweaking of the dialogue it could have been better–

I wanted him to say he was dead to him!

No probably Michael planned on talking him to death! Did not watch the episode but never in the history of this show have I ever seen anybody just shoot the ass I do not need to see a three episode of you telling somebody you want to kill them! Get on with it ! 🙂

Sonny has been behind bars before,he may even end up visiting with
Johnny Z briefly, but certainly not long term. Since Sonny fired Alexis,
will Diane represent him once more.

I just wanna know when people will realize that “Jake” is really Jason

A reveal that big usually comes out during a sweeps period to guarantee the largest audience possible to set ad rates for months that follow– it is too late for November sweeps, so my guess is they won’t figure out Jake is Jason until February sweeps

thats a very long time to wait for sweeps

of course, I know exactly what you’re saying…. ratings generate

at least, Jason, us up and mobile… although it’s the same thing… how long do we go with his cute person with no real acting… he’s easy on the eyes, we get that

I was floored ! yesterday’ ep (wed): LOL Michelle Stafford and Michael Easton… dream sequence ! yesterday… Michelle Stafford was on TOP. YES! scene ends with Roger and Nina w/Ava & Morgans baby. what a way to drive a wedge , gap between root for and ache . My dear Ava

it’s taken this long for MS’ Nina to equal. she’s their.

I want to give prop to Y&R’ Gina Tognoni’ nuPhyllis. i only have time for friday eps…. but… this lady is smokin’ on fire on all cylinder… kudos to her. she’s a standout amongst a big cast thats uninteresting….

anyway of the 3 characters immobile

Nina : thank gosh shes on her way
Jason: we need more than cute expression before February
Phyllis : well done

LOL i just realized I should avail my self to real LUKE

gangbusters

all the requisite element to spool to the gills

FIRED UP

To the person who asked me about Robin– I don’t see your comment here but I got it in my inbox. I imagine it would depend on when the actress is available as to when they will get back to that storyline. As for the rest of your comment, February is merely a guess on my part, it might be sooner—GH likes to do unexpected things, like make big reveals at odd times- just to keep viewers on their toes– so I could be wrong– I guess we’ll just have to keep watching to find out.

USA today, just released, a headline… nuJason will remember, everything, before, Christmas

This was just a joke on the fans for sweeps. Mumbles can’t speak dialogue all he does is mumble. .If Sonny doesn’t go to jail, I am done. This show makes me laugh. Michael should have shot Sonny, and then he could be awarded a medal. Cleaning up GH.

Loved Duell, Zamprogna , Craig & of course Benard, they were sssooooo good !! As for the storyline it was great. Sonny w/go to jail to meet up with Johnny but he won’t stay long. I like Sonny because he’s a Mobster w/a heart [he only bothers people when they mess with his family]. He is General Hospital…… There will be a technology to get him and Duke off.

AJ never messed with his family…Sonny stole AJ’s! Sonny spent a good two decades destroying AJ in one way or the other. Sonny never avenged Jason’s death, didn’t look for Carly when she was kidnapped by Heather, didn’t look for Ben/Rocco when he was taken by Dr. O…he’s a lone wolf. Gone are the days of Sonny, Jason, Stone, Robin, Brenda…or Sonny, Carly, Jason, Max…there was always a “family” type feel to Sonny and his clan. Now, he just gives Sean orders…but there’s none of that “inner circle” feel anymore. He got what he deserves…and what AJ deserves…justice.

AJ tried to kill Jason many years ago because of jealousy, don’t forget who caused the brain damage the Jason suffered causing the change in his personality in the first place. Sonny did not steal his family, Carly made the choice. AJ did his fair amount of damage to his family because Jason was favored with Monica [ she was his biological mother, not Jason’s] AJ kidnapped the children and said they were dead. Please remember when Rocco/Carly went missing Sonny did search and offered Dante assistance [check GH’s history] . Dante don’t like being Sonny involved in his business since he’s on the other side of the law [sometimes it comes in handy] which you can understand. I love Gh because it is a little different from the traditional soap [you know the “good, bad & ugly” pure entertainment], where the “Mob Guy” is so popular. Enjoyed your reply Rebecca, have a great day, we’ll talk again….

Goes to show;
All written above^^^ is what makes GH rock !!!!
GH is not the Waltons or Y&R nor is it supposed to be..
It is about mob families and their crimes and all involved..
and– all the others, the none mob characters and their very intriguing lives..
You are watching a soap with mob families ..LOL
and it is as it is meant to be; AWESOME!! 🙂

Hi Virginia…

Thanks for your reply back but II beg to disagree…or let’s just say I’m team AJ all the way! That’s not to say I want Sonny off the show; he’s an integral character and when I’m not despising him for taking AJ’s son away from him…yes, Carly did that…but Sonny enforced it by every violent act and threat he could muster…became a father to a boy who already had a father…(who wanted to BE a father and had to kidnap him just to attempt to give his side of the story to his own son who had been poisoned against him. Let’s not forget that AJ was not intrinsically evil; he was an alcoholic. He also was insecure about his place in the family. He was constantly maligned by everyone for being one…as if that was worse than being a mob boss/murderer.

Couldn’t be happier that Sonny is FINALLY going to pay for his crimes…particularly to AJ…and I couldn’t be happier that Michael has turned against him and will hopefully wear the title of son of AJ Quartermaine proudly.

With that said, appreciate your take too and thanks for getting back to me!

When did AJ try to kill Jason out of jealousy? What I remember is that AJ got in the car drunk and Jason tried to stop him and there was an accident–caused by AJ driving in his drunken state–that resulted in Jason’s brain damage. But if there was a deliberate attempt to harm Jason, I sure missed that part of the storyline.

Hi Michael (not Fairman). I didn’t remember that either but I looked it up. This was a separate incident…not referring to the accidental car crash that caused Jason’s injuries. Apparently, afterwards, AJ was consumed with despair and thought Jason would be left in a chronic, vegetative state so he hired someone to end his life. (I didn’t research it that thoroughly so I’m not sure of the exact details or why it didn’t work…or if he even got caught.) The point for me, as always regarding AJ, was that he was not an evil, violent man. He was a troubled man who never got a break. I was very disappointed that they finally killed him. Unless there is some soap magic at some point and he comes back, this is one character that deserved to have his life turn a corner to live and thrive with Michael and a love relationship… The only good thing that came out of his demise was the severing of Michael from Sonny, and Michael’s realization that AJ had been innocent and wanted him/fought for him all along.

THANK GOD THEY FINALLY ARRESTED SONNY I AM SO SICK OF HIM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOPE HE GOES AWAY FOR LIFE

Glad Sonny’s finally in jail and hope he’s executed for his crime(s). I also look forward to the scene when Monica finds out and confronts Sonny.

I’ve been waiting for the day Sonny is arrested for far too long. He needs to go to prison permanently for his very long list of crimes, and certainly for the cold-blooded murder of AJ. Lock him up and throw away the key.

lol
that will never happen.. Maurice is not leaving GH..
He will be in jail for a short length of time while he goes on his vacation or does another project whatever and then he will be back 🙂 ..
Sonny is a GH cornerstone character and I love Sonny!!

Sonny has a magic shield of protection around him, no real harm will ever come his way..
It looks like they are going to give Sonny a change, he is already turning…
confessing his remorse and his sins for the harm he has done and his regrets and stuff, that is not my Sonny..
they better not make a wussy of him!!!!
((I hate that!!!

you are FUNny !

para 2 rocked

wasn’t he the caged lion yesterday…. “get me out of here, so I can find my nufoundling”

ugh! I hope they don’t spend too much time…. ie: Duke lets out… as Carly is escorted in…. across from, “I love you’s ” Sonny

let this be the curtain call for …. done
Carly and Sonny dismantled

bye bye

Jason jumped into a car with someone who was drunk. he knew it, and he has to take the consaquences of his actions. AJ didn’t want him with him he tried to get him out. Jason took AJ’s son. Sonny destroyed AJ’s chance to be a father because he wanted to. he also killed Aj while he was begging for his life. If Sonny gets away with another murder I will not be back. I will only watch when justice comes to Sonny.and also carley..The ratings are up for this, if Sonny walks so do I . I shut the show off for nine years the last time the evul mob won and Sonny has a heart???What show are they watching. He has caused Lili and the babys death, screwing with a more powerful mob, caused Michael to get shot,He covered up a justifyable death Michael did and the name Corintious made the judge send Michael to jail he also took away the protection Jason had for Michael. almost blew up Kristina in Johnny’s car. Shot Dante in the chest the same way he did AJ. Sonny is done stick a fork in him. All he does this great actor is mumble and look around like he is trying to remember his lines. Now ! Carley she stole and destroyed evidence on AJ’s phone, then protected the murderer, After the fact for murder. It is also against the law. Re-Ron has a law degree the way he writes this show what a waste of money. They have such a blotted cast getting rid on the mob would not hurt. What do they do? get rid of JJY.???? Sonny sainted father of the year ?

Don’t come back get Sonny out of prison i can see that you like Luke with his sorry ass.

I don’t like Luke, Fluke etc.We had some rest when he was gone, he can turn around and retire. Fine by me Take Re-Ron with him.

SONNY IS THE ONLY REASON I WATCH GENERAL HOSPITAL, I HATE THAT HE’S IN JAIL AND I THINK MICHAEL NEEDS TO GET OFF HIS HIGH HORSE . A.J. WAS A DRUNKEN BUM, IF SONNY LEAVES FOR TOO LONG I LEAVE AND THE SOAPS ARE LEAVING DAYTIME TELEVISION LEFT AND RIGHT. WE NEED DYNAMIC CHARACTERS LIKE SONNY. I’VE BEEN A FAN FOR 40 YEARS OF MY LIFE THIS WOULD END I FOR ME…

You got my vote, i just love me some SONNY C.

No i hate that sonny had to go to jail, when luke ass is out doing all his bullshit
, i just love my mobster Sonny and who put there damn hands on my sonny, he’s a damn mobster kill that stupid bitch ass you know what, i really didn’t like AJ any damn way, he wasn’t like his dad or grandfather or even his mother. Get Sonny out of prison and put Luke in there.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
