‘General Hospital’ Spencer Cassadine Recast Buzz: Costa D’Angelo Responds to Fans Wanting Him To Take On the Role
Costa D’Angelo is currently starring in season 3 of Hulu’s Tell Me Lies in his breakthrough role of the brooding anti-hero, Alex. The 25-year-old was born in Australia and is of Italian-Australian decent.
Tell Me Lies is based on Carola Lovering’s novel that follows the eight-year, toxic relationship between Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White). Costa D’Angelo’s Alex is a psychology grad student and part-time drug dealer who has a complicated past with Bree (Cat Missal). Although he initially comes off as aloof and borderline rude, it quickly becomes clear that there are hidden depths to him which includes trauma. Alex’s backstory is shaped by foster care and abuse which drives nearly every decision he makes.
While Tell Me Lies current season 3 is currently streaming with new episodes dropping each week, reports indicate that a season 4 is not looking good, and that could be news to General Hospital fans ears, some of which, have been captivated by D’Angelo’s essence, and believe he would make a great fit for a recast Spencer Cassadine, previously played by Nicholas Alexander Chavez.

In a new interview with The TV Cave, D’Angelo addresses the possibility of coming to the ABC soap opera, and if he has heard the online fervor. Costa responded, “I have seen it,” with a smile on his face. The young star added, “Tell the General Hospital fans I love them and I see them. So hopefully one day I can make their dreams come true.”
D’Angelo is no stranger to soaps having played the role of Eden Shaw in the beloved Australian soap opera, Neighbours. He appeared on the series from October 2023 through February 2024.
The last time GH viewers saw Spencer Cassadine alive was back on the January 31, 2024 episode of the ABC soap opera. In story, Spencer and Esme Prince (Avery Pohl) went overboard while he was trying to save the love of his life Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali). Spencer got injected by a drug from Esme, and tried to fight her off, but they both plummeted into the steely waters below and are both presumed dead.
Nicholas Alexander Chavez played the young adult version of Spencer from 2021-2024 and picked up the his first Emmy in the Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series in 2022. He later went on to star as Lyle Menendez in Ryan Murphy’s limited series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
So, is it time for Spencer to come home and be alive and well? Would you be down fo Costa D’Angelo to take on the role? Share your thoughts via the comment section. You can check out Costa in some scenes from ‘Tell Me Lies’ below.
Visually, I could see him as Spencer, but I haven’t a clue what he’s done.
Turns out I do! He was Eden on Neighbours, so this could be a real solid reset for Spencer.
I can see it. He was great on Neighbours!
At first glance (and before reading his name), I mistook him for Maurice’s son.
I thought the same thing. And, in that case he would even be more miscast. I have no idea who Costa D’Angelo is and don’t know his work but the picture alone I don’t see Spencer.
Why would that be another reason for a miscast? I don’t understand why some here are being so close minded about a Spencer recast. Nicholas Chavez is not coming back, and Spencer needs to come back to the canvas. From what I’ve seen and heard, this young man might be a perfect Spencer recast.
Need someone dark and sexy with character this kid looks too young
Costa is 25 and Nicholas is 26. I found headshots of each and created a side by side collage. They could be brothers. If you’re using just one photo upon which to base your opinion, that is very limiting. Google images of him. There are plenty dark and sexy pics of him.
I think some are forgetting that while Chavez’s Spencer was dark and handsome, he was also comically oafish and clumsy. That’s what made him sympathetic and lovable. Tough shoes to fill for sure but it looks like this kid could do it. I hope Tyger cast him, and I also hope viewers give him a chance. Look at the successful recasts of Molly and Emma.
Oops. Closed, not close.
Chavez is in a show not sure the name some horror something, don’t care because Spencer was a spoiled rotten brat so I don’t follow him and not a great actor.
I disagree. I found headshots of each of them. Created a side by side collage and they definitely look like they could be siblings, if not fraternal twins. Costa is 25 and Nicholas is 26.
he looks kinda like him.
He looks nothing like Maurice Benard’s son Joshua
the look is not enough, don’t see Spencer in him
Give the kid a chance!
I don’t see him as Spencer. I want the last Spencer back. I can’t stand Trina’s new bf. They just don’t have the chemistry of Trina and Spencer. Bring him back, please!
He looks like a younger version of Maurice Bernard.
Yes he does like his son who has been on the show
Joshua played a young Sonny a couple of times and played a jerk when Joss was in community college. He apologized for being a jerk. He’s a great actor but a better musician and singer which is his passion
no he doesn’t at all. Also Maurice Benard didn’t start until he was 30 years old.
“….Alex is a psychology grad student and part-time drug dealer…”????????? I wonder what the character’s career goals are? I am so old.
Why not have him come as Morgan ???
If they wanted to bring back Morgan, they would ask Bryan Craig. Sonny’s got too many offspring on the canvas already.
Jason will be back soon. They don’t need to replace him. Bite your tongue. I don’t want to lose Steve Burton again.
Huh? Who said anything about replacing Steve Burton?
No only the real Morgan can play that role and he is available by the way GH just aint called him.
There is no such thing as the “real Morgan.” You must be referring to Bryan Craig, and trust me, he can easily be replaced. He wasn’t that good.
I would prefer that they bring Nicholas Chavez back. He was great but as things go, there’s always a change. I don’t know anything about D’Angelo. It’s always hard to see someone else playing a role that you’ve been accustomed to seen forever, but change has to come one way or another. Why can’t they bring Chavez back?
Because Chavez has moved on to MUCH bigger (not always better) things.
Ok since he cannot come back then yes I definitely think they should bring this new young man to general hospital. I think he would be a good fit
Ok since he has moved on bring this young man on G H I think he would be great for the part
Loyal fan of GH for years
I also would have Chavez to come back
Why can’t they bring Chavez back?
Because he doesn’t want to come back and has made that pretty clear?
I want Chavez to come back. He was Spencer Cassadine. ❣️
I would love for him to play Spencer if the character is coming back. I vote yes.
Why not, I think he will make a good Spencer…thats what acting is all about, sometimes you have to give a person a chance to see what they are all about.
I LOVE him in Tell Me Lies! I’d welcome hom as Spencer on GH for sure.
Me too!
Please bring back the real Nicholas Cassidine. Find him and bring him back. Maybe he can get his island home from Sidewell (that crook).
No !
Yes!
I think Nichols looks better as Spencer so bring him back and leave Esme in the water.
Why do people keep repeating this silliness? Chavez left. He doesn’t want to come back. Geez, people, get real.
On a soap no one is ever really dead
It would be great to have Spencer’s character back on gh…yes!!!
Yes bring back Spencer’s character to gh…yo…youngsters…replacing characters on all past soaps has always, always been the norm…this is not new…
He’s very cute and would probably make a good fit for Trina
Bring back the original Spencer.
No like the old spencer
I didn’t think Nicholas Chavez’s Spencer could be recasted. But looking at the pictures featured and the descriptions of De Angelo’s acting style, I think he might be able to pull it off.
Well, if the role does return, it is likely to be a recast. Also, “recasted” is not a word, jsyk.
My sincere apologies. I took a liberty for the sake of conversational flow by changing “recast” to “recasted.” While it may bend the rules, language evolves precisely because people are willing to stretch it. English is, after all, a living, breathing organism. Anyway, unless you’re an anal retentive nitpicker, it’s unimportant.
In addition, you missed my point. Of course, it would be a recast if Spencer returned, played by an actor who is not Nicholas Chavez. My point is, I always thought that Chavez’s shoes would be very large, if not impossible, to fill. From what I have seen and heard about D’Angelo, I think he is the actor who could actually pull this off. I hope it happens.
I’d rather get or try to get Nicholas back he’s great. But I’m willing to give him a chance. It’s time for Trina to get on with her life.
No recast leave him dead if your going to recast
This guy is nice looking enough. My point is bring Spencer back! He should have been recast by now! Chavez has no intention of returning! Look at how well the Michael recast and Lulu recast are doing! Spencer is a vital character on the GH canvas ! If not this guy find a look alike somewhere! Chavez was not the 1st Spencer nor should he be the last! Recast ASAP!
I want Nicholas Chavez back as Spencer & Sydney Mikayla back as Trina. Nothing like the originals.
Except Sydney Mikayla is not even the original Trina, nor was Nicholas Alexander Chavez; neither are coming back.
No way don’t replace the original with a weak imposter.
Yes I think he would be great as Spencer. Just don’t bring Esme back!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE
Unfortunately< i think the return of Esme is already planned. it can’t be a coincidence that Kevin took “Ace” to Ireland. Where Esme’s nanny (who practically raised her) happens to live.
Esme showing up in ireland just in time for St. Patrick’s Day might be the answer to some “filler stories” they can bring in to compensate for the temproary loss of Jason.
No no Nicholas Chavez is Spencer
O heck no I want the other Spencer he’s the one with the chemistry with Trina so GH writers plz listen to the fans and the viewers give us what we want
But the writers don’t hire the actors. And Nicholas Chavez is not interested in coming back right now. So viewers need to move on and either be willing to have a new actor or give up on the role. They can’t force Nicholas Chavez back, it’s his life.
Hi,
Loved Nicholas Chavez in Monsters, started watching GH loved him here too.
I met him last year- so nice and kind.
I have been waiting for Spencer to return to General Hospital but I want the actor who truly nailed it Nicholas Alexander ChavezHe is the one who needs to come back and claim his live Trina PLEASE!!!
Demi Moore, John Stamos, and Ricky Martin aren’t returning either.
No want spencer cascadine

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Ava Spikes Brennan’s Drink as Drew’s Masterplan Begins to Unfolds

The Friday, August 28 episode of General Hospital confirmed viewers suspicious from the ABC weekly promo that dropped earlier in the week. Ava Jerome (Maura West) is definitely the woman who is spiking the drink of Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna).
How did it all go down? Let’s recap. Ava met up with Drew (Cameron Mathison) at the Metro Court poolside, and he filled her in on his plan to use the thumb drive given to him by Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight) to interfere with the Metro Court Hotel’s security system by way of Carly’s (Laura Wright) office computer.
Next, Drew hands over an envelope with a sleeping pill in it with the demand the Ava somehow slyly slip into Brennan’s drink. Ava is not liking the idea of drugging the WSB Port Charles Bureau Chief.

Courtesy/ABC
KEEPING BRENNAN OCCUPIED
Drew wants insurance that he has enough time to get into Brennan’s room unnoticed, and get the evidence that proved he embezzled money from the McConkey Esplanade project to fund his Congressional campaign away from Jack. He feels the sleeping pill will buy him the time he needs.
Ava accuses Drew of setting her up to take the fall, and she is now having second thoughts about them working together especially after her friend, Nina (Cynthia Watros) warned her about Drew, yet again.
Drew has a comeback for Ava. That is that Sonny (Maurice Benard) has a powerful ally in Mayor Laura Collins (Genie Francis), and he thought that he and Ava were each other’s best shot to team-up and take Sonny down for both their mutual gains. After all, Drew is targeting Sonny as the lynchpin for all his revenge, and Ava is sick of how Sonny dictates when she will see and raise their daughter, Avery.
DRINK UP!
Reluctantly, Ava took the pill from Drew to use on Brennan, only if she absolutely finds it a necessity to do so. As she is on her way to meet Brennan, she flashes back to Sonny calling her a “cancer who should be cut out of Avery’s life.” So, what does Ava do? For insurance, she crushes up the sleeping pill!
Next, Ava sits at a table at the Metro Court poolside with Brennan, and he seems to be knocking back a few drinks upset over his run-in earlier with Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) and Carly. He suddenly gets a phone call that has to take in private and gets up from the table. That moments enables Ava to slip the crushed up sleeping pill into Brennan’s drink and stir it around. We fade to black.
Take a look at the scene where Drew slips Ava a drug to help tide over Brennan while he tries to retrieve the evidence Brennan is using to blackmail him below.
Now weigh-in: were you disappointed to see Ava back to her old devious ways? Do you think Drew will be successful getting back the evidence? Is this the beginning of the end of Jack Brennan since it as has been reported Chris McKenna is exiting the soap? Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section.

Double Emmy Nominee Jeff Kober Reveals He Would Be Open to Return to ‘General Hospital’ If He Could Work Again with Genie Francis

Jeff Kober (ex-Cyrus Renault, General Hospital) has been in celebration mode since July after receiving not only a Daytime Emmy nomination for his role on the ABC daytime drama series, but a Primetime Emmy nomination for his dramatic turn on the HBO Max series The Pitt where he played patient Duke Elkins. The dual nominations mark the first-time in Emmy history that a performer has been nominated for both Emmy awards at the same time.
As GH viewers know, Kober made his debut in General Hospital as Cyrus Renault in 2020. He appeared in the show on-and-off for five years until his character was killed off in an episode that aired on February 20, 2025 ending Renault’s reign of terror.
In fact, it was Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) who shot and killed him, and along with Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna), covered it up. It was that moment that eventually turned Josslyn into an avenge-seeking WSB agent. Kober came back one last time to GH back in December of 2025, when he reprised the role in a dream sequence with Cyrus’ on-screen sister, Laura Collins (Genie Francis).

JEFF KOBER AND GENIE FRANCIS PLAYED TV BROTHER AND SISTER
Speaking with PEOPLE, Kober talked about his time on General Hospital and if he would ever consider returning to the soap opera if they were to resurrect the now deceased troublemaker Cyrus Renault, or if he even where to play someone else in Port Charles?
“I love to work and I would do anything with Genie (Francis),” expressed Kober. “She’s a great actress and a great scene partner. She’s someone who’ll go anywhere you want to go with them So, if they bring me back and let me work with her, I wouldn’t mind making the drive over to Prospect Studios.”
Kober added, “I would say I’m closest to her in that we both get excited when we can work together because both of us want to make it as rich as possible and find the dangerous areas of it, and see what happens there.”
WILL JEFF KOBER FIND HIMSELF WITH EMMY GOLD TWICE OVER COME THIS FALL?
Previously, Kober won the Outstanding Supporting Actor in Daytime Drama Series for his performances as Cyrus Renault back in 2022. He was also nominated in 2021. Now in 2026, Jeff finds himself among the nominees in the Outstanding Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series category.
For the Primetime Emmy Awards, and also as had been previously reported, Kober submitted himself in the Guest category when the studio/network did not. Speaking to his decision to self submit, Jeff shared, “There are so many great performances on this show (The Pitt), and they have a limited number of people that they can submit. But I knew it was a job that I wanted to have seen. I knew the material and my particular wheelhouse were perfectly aligned, so I really wanted to at least have it be seen.”
The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards are set to air live on Monday, Sept. 14, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock, while the 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be streamed live on watch.theemmys.tv and associated apps on on Friday night, October 30 from Hollywood.
So, would you like to either see Cyrus Renault turn out to be alive … or Jeff Kober return to GH in another role and share scenes and a story with General Hospital icon, Genie Francis? Let us know via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Nicholas Alexander Chavez Lands Role in Action-Thriller ‘Supermax’

Nicholas Alexander Chavez (ex-Spencer Cassadine, General Hospital) has booked another motion picture role, and this time it’s in the upcoming action-thriller Supermax. The Amazon MGM and Miramax feature is currently in production.
According to Deadline, character details for the film which stars Will Smith and AnnaSophia Robb, are being kept under wraps. Production began on Monday, August 24 in New South Wales, Australia, with support from the NSW Government through Screen NSW’s Made in NSW Fund.
In story, Supermax follows two FBI agents (Smith & Robb) who investigate a seemingly impossible murder within the impenetrable walls of a maximum-security prison. Jaafar Jackson and Jason Clarke are also set for roles in the film.
SUPERMAX IS NEXT FEATURE ROLE FOR THE FORMER GH DAYTIME EMMY WINNER

He then reunited with Murphy for the FX horror drama Grotesquerie as father Charlie Mayhew.
Coming up, Nicholas will be seen in The Technique, a psychological thriller, where he stars alongside Emma Roberts, Ben Platt and Noomi Rapace, as well as and the remake of the horror flick, Possession.
