Tristan Rogers, the beloved and iconic star of General Hospital who passed away on Friday, August 15th from lung cancer, taped his last scene as Robert Scorpio a few months back and it aired on the July 18th episode of the ABC daytime drama series.

In the story, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) accompanied Robert’s daughter, Sasha Corbin (Sofia Mattsson) and her newborn daughter Daisy, to safety by flying with her in a private jet half way around the world to the home Robert and Holly Sutton (Emma Samms), who now reside in together in Europe.

When Jason and Sasha arrived at Robert’s front door, it was apparent that Rogers was very frail, making these scenes all the more impactful for viewers and indeed for longtime GH vet, Steve Burton.

Taking to his Instagram to pay tribute to Tristan, Steve wrote on how Tristan wanted to be there to film what would be his last scenes and the indelible mark the Australian-born star left on him and the legacy of General Hospital.

In his post, accompanied by a photo from their last time together Steve began, “If you know, you know Robert Scorpio. Tristan Rogers … The man. The legend. The OG.”

Steve continued to share how Tristan was on his last day of work, “I’m truly honored that I had the chance to work alongside Tristan on his very last day at work. Not only that, I got to spend real time with him…just making sure he was taken care of. You could see he was going through it, but the strength he showed to still be there… it spoke volumes. Most people in that situation might have said, ‘Stay home, take care of yourself.’ But for Tristan, General Hospital l was his home. And there was no place he would rather have been.”

“Even though he wasn’t feeling his best, he would joke around, still giving us a piece of who he was. That’s the mark of a true legend,” Burton added, and concluded with,”Tristan, thank you for everything you did. You paved the way for guys like me. Rest easy, my friend. Your light and laughter live on. ❤️”

Coincidently, Steve and Tristan crossed paths many times throughout their careers  – not only when they both have come and gone and returned to General Hospital, but when they both appeared on The Young and the Restless for a few years as Colin Atkinson and Dylan McAvoy.

Now below, take a look at the final two scenes from the July 18th episode of General Hospital, and the interaction between Jason and Robert, layered with so many emotions as this would be Tristan’s final acting performance.

So, what did you think about the sentiments shared by Steve Burton on the passing of Tristan Rogers, and your thoughts on the last time we will ever see Robert Scorpio on GH? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

Michael–what a great interview! Thank you so much!

Beautifully said. Tristan you will be missed. You are and will always be my favorite. Praying for the family. GH won’t be the same without you. You are an icon and will never be forgotten. Rest in peace dear one

Everything Steve Burton says in this interview was self evident in Jason’s facial expression and eyes during that last scene with Robert Scorpio. It was one of those rare and precious moments where the humanity of real life makes an appearance on a soap. Scorpio was not just a soap icon, he was an 80’s cultural icon.

You will be missed by me my ; daughter who knew you and all of us who loved watching you.

Okay – rewatching the scenes with Sofia and Tristan as Daughter and Father with granddaughter Daisy was magical. What a fantastic send off to both of the actors. Sofia – please return when you are able. Tristan – what a beautiful beautiful way to have your last time on film RIP

He was a wonderful actor and as everyone that knew him a great person to have known. Rest in peace God has your soul forever. Thoughts and prayers to his entire family.

I thank God I got to know Mr.Tristan at the beginning of him appearing on General Hospital. The coldest spy ever;that accent was so sexy.REST IN HEAVEN.STRENGHT TO HIS FAMILY.

Has Maurice Benard made a statement and I missed it? It would be the classy thing to do

Bryan Craig, the two-time Daytime Award-winning actor, best known to soap fans as Morgan Corinthos on General Hospital has landed another feature film role. According to i68 Studios, Craig has been cast in the upcoming proof-of-concept to motion picture, The Weapon.

Production begins on August 27th in Texas, and Craig will play the role of Miller, the youngest member of Isaiah Fury’s original team. Miller is said to be, “A brilliant recon and tech specialist, Miller is quick-witted and uses humor to keep fear at bay. But when everything goes wrong, his loyalty wins out over fear, and he follows his brothers into the fight.”

The Weapon loglines share that the film is about brotherhood, sacrifice and what a man is willing to endure for the people he loves. Set against the backdrop of covert operations and a terrifying experiment that changes Isaiah Fury forever, this story asks what remains of a man when everything he thought made him human is stripped away. The film’s producers share on why they chose Craig for the role, “Bryan brings an incredible combination of intensity, charisma and vulnerability.”

BRYAN CRAIG’S MEMORABLE RUN AS MORGAN CORINTHOS

Since leaving General Hospital, Craig’s other roles have included: ABC’s Grand Hotel and Freeform’s Good Trouble, along with appearances in Valor, Walker and American Fighter to name but a few.

Bryan appeared on General Hospital for his initial run as Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly’s (Laura Wright) son from 2013-2016. His journey ended when Morgan was presumed dead after a car bomb killed him that was meant for Sonny. Craig later returned for appearances as Morgan in different iterations in 2018 and 2024. Craig won back-to-back Daytime Emmy Awards in the former Outstanding Younger Actor category in 2016 and 2017.

It was back in 2016, that Craig told Soap Opera Digest on his decision to exit General Hospital: “It’s been an amazing journey, but I feel like the time is right for me to say goodbye to General Hospital and Morgan Corinthos. This was not an easy decision and I am extremely grateful to ABC, Frank Valentini, and the entire GH cast and crew for the opportunity and their unyielding support. To the wonderful fans who have embraced and loved Morgan as one of their own, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

So, glad to hear of Bryan’s casting in The Weapon? Are you still holding onto hope that GH will bring back a very much alive Morgan Corinthos that could shake-up the canvas? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

John Oliver Recaps His ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘General Hospital’ Soap Opera Experience on ‘Last Week Tonight’

Published

on

By

John Oliver

Last Week Tonight host, John Oliver had his soap dreams come true on not one, but two long-running daytime dramas, heralding it his “hot soap summer” on the Sunday night, August 16 edition of his HBO series.

As viewers recall, Oliver’s tour of soap duty began back in March when he made a request and an offer to appear in any daytime drama that would have him with certain conditions, which included: having a ridiculous and over the top character name, a juicy storyline, and a slap.

Both Days of Our Lives and General Hospital came a-calling for Oliver, taking him up on his offer and in short order. Oliver appeared on GH in the role of the head of the WSB named  Z on episodes airing July 2-6, and then on DAYS in the role of Salem’s chief water inspector, Devlin St. John, in episodes that streamed the week of August 11.

FIRST STOP, PORT CHARLES

On Last Week Tonight, Oliver shared that both soaps delivered, and then launched into a comedic send-up complete with clips from some of his scenes. Starting with General Hospital.

Oliver said, “To General Hospital’s credit, they met all my requirements and more. First, my character got to arrive by a helicopter flanked by a pair of armed goons. And I got to do a dramatic walk during which I bravely shot in the general direction of a guy who was already on the ground. It’s called being an action star, by the way, unless you’re me or Vin Diesel, you really wouldn’t understand. And then in my next scene, I revealed my true identity. (Oliver played the scene where Josslyn wakes up in a hospital bed with Z standing at the side of her bed introducing himself).

He continued, “As for getting slapped, well, they knocked that and me out of the park too, because it turns out that agent’s mother was not happy with me,” explained Oliver, as they cut to the slap of Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) in the WSB Port Charles bureau office on Z. Oliver screamed, “YES! It has everything! A slap, a dramatic closeup, and me doing a voice so wrong, it is genuinely embarrassing. That was my honest attempt at an American accent. I can’t tell you why it’s southern. I can only tell you I was trying my hardest.”

SECOND STOP, SALEM

Then, came John’s wrap-up of his role of Devlin St. John on Days of Our Lives, the town’s chief city water inspector. “It is on Days of Our Lives I appeared in scenes alongside soap legends like Jackée Harry (Paulina) and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie). And the Days of Our Lives team met my demands in a whole different way because instead of being an international spy boss, they wrote me a character a little more my speed.”

Cut to a clip of Oliver introducing himself as Devlin St. John to Rita. He explains, “I’m the only thing standing between this town and a catastrophic plumbing failure. A literal sewage apocalypse. They made me Salem’s Chief City Water Inspector, which let’s be honest, is perfect casting. If you’re going to bottle my essence and sell it as cologne, it would be called ‘Chief City Water Inspector.'”

DEVLIN’S WIG

The late night host also clarified all the reports, that the wig he wore for his DAYS character he actually brought from home. “Now, as for the hair, I agree, it’s absolutely incredible. It’s been reported this past week that it is a wig I brought to set from home. And while it wasn’t technically from home, we did actually provide that wig, and for good reason,” joked Oliver. “I’ve seen myself act. I knew the hair was going have to do 90% of the work. I’ll be honest, I was going for a healthy John Stamos (ex-Blackie, GH) look, but instead, it appears I ended up looking more like Tina from Bob’s Burgers.”

“And if you’re wondering whether I got slapped on Days of Our Lives, not only was I slapped by a man wearing elegant silk pajamas (EJ), I also got to slap him, which felt utterly incredible. But wait, I was also stabbed with a syringe and not once, not even twice, but three different times. And if that wasn’t enough, this happened too.” At that point, Oliver played the clip of Rita using the taser on Devlin.

JOHN OLIVER LEAVES DOOR OPEN FOR A SOAP RETURN

The now late night star-turned-soap actor concluded his segment with, “Are you not entertained? Watching that makes me feel the way I assume Matt Damon felt after seeing the first cut of the Odyssey, both proud and impressed that my body could even do that. Which again, you wouldn’t understand. You’re not an action star like I am now. ”

As he ended his recap, Oliver thanked both soaps for playing along, and noting that neither DAYS or GH actually killed him off! Could a John Oliver return happen down the line? Stay tuned.

Watch John detail his soap dreams come to life on General Hospital and then Days of our Lives below.

Now let us know, what did you think of the performances of John Oliver on General Hospital and Days of our Lives? Did you prefer one over the other or enjoy both of his guest arc visits? In the GH video teaser for August 17-21, while Dante and Elizabeth are enjoying some time together, a jealous Ric warns Lulu (Alexa Havins),”There is a growing connection between the two of them. And if we don’t break it, you and I are going to lose the loves of our lives.”

“It was only a matter of time before you showed up,” Sidwell snarls, as we see the prisoner meet his arch nemesis in the visitor’s section of the prison. Sonny sees Sidwell and snipes, “Beige is not your color.” What is Sonny hoping to gain from a conversation with the nefarious criminal who tried to destroy his life and those who he loved?
