The daytime community is in mourning this weekend over the loss of Tristan Rogers, who passed away on Friday, August 15th at the age of 79 after his battle with lung cancer.

The former General Hospital and The Young and the Restless star, who also was featured in the digital drama series, The Bay and Studio City, is being remembered by so many of his castmates from the past, and those he worked with most recently up until his final appearance as GH’s iconic Robert Scorpio on July 18th.

Whether it be for his role as the Scorpio the superspy on General Hospital, Colin Atkinson, the troublemaking bad guy dad of Cane Ashby (then played by Daniel Goddard) on The Young and the Restless, police commissioner Lex Martin on The Bay, or as Daniel “Doc” Smith, the dying father to actor Sam Stevens (Sean Kanan) in Studio City, Tristan left us with decades worth of memorable performances.

Here are just some of the tributes and remembrances that are pouring in across social media below. Michael Fairman TV will continue update this post as more are shared.

Emma Samms: “I’m incredibly sad to hear the news about Tristan. I loved working with him, and we were both so grateful that we got the chance to do that for more than 40 years. He taught me how to be comfortable in front of the cameras, and he introduced me to spontaneity and fun, even within all the trials and tribulations that Robert and Holly endured. My condolences to his wife and family.”

Kimberly McCullough: “Trissy forever”

Sofia Mattsson: “Rest in peace Tristan Rogers I feel so incredibly fortunate to have gotten such an amazing TV dad, and I will always cherish the very heartwarming moments we got to share together ❤️”

Photo: ABC

Finola Hughes: “Wish I could play one more scene with you, my friend. Tris sauntered into my dressing room on that first day to rehearse. Cropped hair & steel blue eyes, I thought ‘damn, I’m gonna be working with Steve McQueen!’ From day one he called me ‘kid’ or ‘Finny’ and he made me laugh. An effortless actor, living on screen, he taught me so much. Serious about his work, but always a rebel. His own man, navigating the system, he protected me, protected Kimberly, his character, his friends. God, he was a good one. Silly, funny, kind, serious. I am heartbroken for his awesome wife Teresa, his children Sara Jane & Cale. His family made him so happy and he adored talking about them. Love you Trissy, Mai Tai’s on the beach, Scorpio… ️”

Daniel Goddard:  “Mate, I just heard the news, and I’m shocked, I want you to know how much you meant to not just me but everyone that had the fortune of being in your presence. You were a trailblazer — doing what no other Australian had done — and after all these years, you were still everybody’s mate. You were kind, with one of the driest senses of humor I’ve ever known, and I caught every joke, no matter how subtle. From the first scene to the last, I never stopped learning from you. The world is now a little more empty without you in it. Rest in peace, my friend.”

Photo: ABC

Sean Kanan: “I just learned that my friend Tristan has passed. I’m struggling to express my feelings, which are raw. Michele and I have had countless adventures with Trissie Roo — my affectionate nickname for him — and his incredible wife, Teresa. Tris and I worked together professionally on numerous projects. He was an extremely gifted actor and a kind and passionate man His veneer was sometimes prickly, and he didn’t suffer fools, but he always made me laugh, especially when he cracked that charming sideways grin — and man, did he have stories. I am going to miss my friend. Rest in peace, pal. Wishing the Rogers family love and strength during this difficult time.”

Mary Beth Evans: “Heartbroken to hear of the passing of Tristan Rogers. On The Bay, I had the privilege of playing opposite him — and what a gift that was. Tristan brought such charm, wit and depth to every scene, and it was an honor to share that screen time with him. Sending love and condolences to his family, friends and so many fans who adored him. He will be deeply missed.”

Photo: JPI

Chris McKenna: “We fly the WSB flags at half mast today. The great Tristan Rogers, aka Robert Scorpio, has passed on. All my love to Tristan’s family and loved ones. He will be missed and never forgotten.”

Gregori Martin: “I was a fan of his work, and then in 2006 we met on the set of General Hospital and we became friends. I cast him in a couple of my horror films and then he inspired me to create The Bay, where I had the privilege of working with him for over 10 years. He also starred in another TV pilot I directed and produced. Tristan was my go-to person whenever I needed to cast a rugged bad ass. A classic James Bond, but even grittier, he played it well and loved doing it. When the cameras weren’t rolling he was a witty actor who just simply loved to play and had some great stories to tell, whenever he was in the mood to speak (and he had to really like you to do that). Tristan was in my life for a long time and I’m going to really miss him. Sending my deepest condolences to Teresa and Sara and all those who were near and dear to the legendary Tristan Rogers. Godspeed.”

Photo: JPI

Parry Shen: “I’ve only once asked for an autograph. It was from Tristan Rogers signing underneath his own name that I wrote in my Charlie Brown book after seeing him on General Hospital in 1981. Rest in peace to a legend. An Icon. My heart goes out to all who cared for him and his work.”

Jon Lindstrom: “I know the sadness I feel at this news is shared by so many of you,” tweeted the General Hospital vet who plays Kevin. “Tristan Rogers was one of the coolest, funniest people I ever met. Whenever we were together, which wasn’t nearly often enough, we never missed a chance to try to crack the other one up. I wish I’d had more of those chances. R.I.P.”

Photo: JPI

Nancy Lee Grahn: “Tristan and I had recurring characters on Babylon 5 years ago. He told me that standing next to me was the only time he wished he was shorter so that he didn’t have to hover over my ginormous head. When the director asked him to look me in the eyes, he said, ‘I’d love to, but that head is too distracting.’ Suave, wry, smooth, debonair and ridiculously handsome. This General Hospital Aussie icon left his mark and will be well remembered. Sending love to his family, and just donated to Go2ForLungCancer in dear Tristan’s name. XO”

Kathleen Gati: “There truly are no words, but I will try. I loved working with Tristan, doing General Hospital events with him, having him as a kind friend. Deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and fans. He will truly be missed but never forgotten.”

Photo: JPI

Rick Springfield: “Aussies are made of tough stuff, but even tough stuff has its expiration date. Our friend Tristan Rogers, a charming, self-deprecating, handsome and witty bloke from the Great Southern Land went home today. Bless and keep your spirit, Tristan. Cancer sucks.”

John J. York:  “Frozen… timeless…legend… privileged… husband… father… grandfather… We will all see you again.”

Genie Francis: “My heart is heavy. Goodbye, my spectacular friend. My deepest condolences to his wife Teresa and their children. Tristan Rogers was a very bright light, as an actor and a person. I was so lucky to have known him.”

Photo: JPI

Kristina Wagner: “Tristan, you were a real lady killer! Rest in peace, my friend. “We’ll miss you.”

Carolyn Hennesy: “Rest in well-deserved peace, you wonderful, handsome, talented, quirky, wiley and oh-so special human. Adore you now and always, Tristan.”

Michelle Stafford: “I just wrote a whole post… it was too much. I deleted. This was just a month ago. The sexiest man in daytime…. I told him that many times. He laughed. I’m glad he‘s out of pain… and free.”

Brooklyn Rae Silzer: “Will miss his special soul so much. Always had the best laughs and hugs.”

This is a tough loss. These are lovely tributes.

It is a tribute in itself that every single comment about him is from people who really cared about and admired him. I would love to hear thoughts from Anthony Geary. He and Tristan created really legendary characters.

GH will never be the same for me without that wonderful, talented, handsome man.
Tristan Rogers will be so missed.

Obviously been suffering for a long time glad he is out of his pain . Hope some day we find a cure for cancer . I’m a cancer survivor and yes you hold your breath after every test after everything it is what it is

Yes, you do. Also, a cancer survivor.

he was an great actor, going to be miss by many. nice tribute by his friends

Did Luke say anything

My question, too. Scorpio and Luke together were wonderful.

These tributes made me cry all over again. I particularly liked Finola and Jon’s words. In the last 10 plus years I always looked forward to a visit from Robert Scorpio( he wasn’t on nearly enough). It’s going to be hard to get used to the feeling that he’s not going to brighten up a scene just from entering it. I really loved that guy. He felt like family.

Agree. When the Daytime Emmys come in October, I hope they have someone from General Hospital do the In Memoriam segment. GH has lost alot of actors this year. I hope Genie Francis would be asked do it. We had Leslie Charleson, Denise Alexander, Chris Robinson and now Tristan Rogers. And Genie has had a storyline with all of these beloved actors. As well as Drake Hogestyn from Days of our Lives when she played Diana Colville.

That’s a lovely suggestion.

The man was an amazing actor and created a galvanizing character out of what was supposed to be a one-day bit. But more importantly, Tristan never shied away from taking on the establishment. He was SO protective of his character and the other legacy personnel on GH, and had no qualms with calling out writers, producers and directors when he didn’t like the way Robert or his compatriots were being portrayed. If he thought that the industry itself was making mistakes, he was outspoken about that too. It was clear that Tristan loved General Hospital and Robert Scorpio every bit as much as we did, and that’s why this is such a tremendous loss.

Tristan had a lot of sway on his character in the 80s which impacts story to this day.

Back then, soap gossip had him objecting to Robert having a kid with Cheryl, who was a less important character. Thus, Lucas’ paternity was switched to Julian – himself a minor character in his original incarnation.

Wonder how the show runners will write the losses of Monica, Robert and Leslie. All of them passed in such close time frames. I’m so grateful to these wonderful actors for some of my favorite after school memories.

Monica’s passing will kick off a long anticipated storyline of who gets the mansion. Her death impacts so many on the canvas and there’s sure to be lots of flashbacks.

Lesley’s passing impacts only Laura, as there’s no other character still on the canvas that had meaningful interactions with her. Tracy might have had a passing scene. Lulu was played by a different actress so they can’t use any flashbacks to when she was young.

Similar to how they’ve handled Monica, they might wait to write Robert’s death into story as that requires bringing back (at least temporarily) Holly, Robin & Sasha.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
