Tristan Rogers, beloved by General Hospital fans for his decades-long role as Robert Scorpio has died at age 79. His passing was confirmed by Rogers longtime manager, Meryl Soodak, who shared that Tristan lost his battle with lung cancer on Friday morning.

Ironically, Soodak noted that Tristan had never been smoker, and then expressed, that the actor’s role on General Hospital, “Meant everything to him,” adding, “He loved being Scorpio and he created that role from nothing. He was supposed to work a day and he ended up making it into something huge. He was just a genuinely loyal, kind human being and he loved his family.”

GH executive producer Frank Valentini shared in a statement on X: “The entire General Hospital family is heartbroken to hear of Tristan Rogers’ passing. Tristan has captivated our fans for 45 years and Port Charles will not be the same without him (or Robert Scorpio). I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this difficult time. Tristan was a one-of-a-kind talent and will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.”

Sadly, and luckily, GH viewers got to see what would be Rogers final television appearance as Scorpio back on July 18, which was the same day he also announced he had been diagnosed with cancer. In the story, Jason (Steve Burton) accompanied Sasha (Sofia Mattson) to Europe with baby Daisy to keep them safe from the baby being targeted (by Willow), and she moved in with her mom and dad, Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) and Robert Scorpio.

It was back in the early 80s that the handsome Aussie joined GH in the hey day of executive producer, Gloria Monty as superspy Scorpio, who would tangled up with his good buddy Luke Spencer (Tony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis), as well as in his romance with Anna Devane (Finola Hughes); the two shared a daughter, Robin, played by Kimberly McCullough.

Tristan’s journey on GH included his initial run from December 1980 until February 1992 when Scorpio was “killed-off” in an explosion in South America, though his body was never recovered. He made one brief visit as a ghost in 1995 and then returned alive and well in 2006. Later in 2008, he took Scorpio to the GH spinoff, Night Shift, and back on the mothership in December 2008 when Robert attended the wedding of his daughter, Robin.  Then, Tristan returned for visits in 2012, 2013, 2018. In 2019 he became recurring with the soap through November of 2024, until Robert and Holly reunited and headed out of Port Charles together. And, as mentioned above, the final time he was seen on-air was last month in July.

Besides GH, Tristan took his talents to Genoa City and The Young and the Restless, playing Cane’s (then Daniel Goddard) criminal father, Colin Atkinson. He took on the role from 2010-2011, and made brief return in 2012. Rogers finally won his first Daytime Emmy in his career for the digital drama series, Studio City in the Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Digital Drama Series in 2020. He also appeared as Lex in several seasons of the Emmy-winning digital drama, The Bay.

Survivors include: Tristan’s wife, Teresa Parkerton,  children, Sarah and Cale, and their grandchildren.

Michael Fairman TV shares our heartfelt condolences for Tristan’s family, loved ones and the General Hospital family on the loss of one of the most beloved stars in the genre. We will keep you updated as reactions pour in on the passing of Tristan Rogers.

Goodbye Tristan Rogers! You will be missed. Rest in Peace.

RIP to a GH Legend!

Tristan was the top male star on the show throughout the late 80s and left a major hole in the canvas when he departed in 92.

He opened the door for actors from the commonwealth to join American soaps. A part of two super couples. Whether you were a fan of Holly or Anna, you could appreciate Robert with both. His scenes with Robin were always touching.

In the end, the GH writers did Tristan right with the film noir send off for Robert & Holly. And, what a treat for fans that despite his health struggles, Tristan returned for final scenes just weeks before he passed.

That sparkle in his eye may be gone, but he left soap fans with many happy memories over an amazing 45 years.

Beautifully written tribute, Steve. Thank you.

I will never forget his first appearance. He erupted out of the fog on the pier wearing a London Fog raincoat as he was trailing Luke and Laura. He was mysterious and was presented as a would be villain. Handsome, charismatic, amusing and talented, we will never see his like again. This one hit me very hard.

Rest easy Tristan. You fought courageously until the very end. You will be missed.

So sad. Farewell. You will be greatly missed on our screens

Rest in peace, Tristan Rogers.

He was the best in the early 80s! He and Emma Samms seemed to be the most romantic couple on Earth! RIP

Wow. I think most of us suspected things were bad when the cancer diagnosis was announced (and even before that), but I never dreamed it was this close to the end for him, and I still held out hope he might come back to Port Charles, at least for occasional visits. Condolences to his family and friends and all those who worked with him.

I am absolutely heartbroken by this news. Tristan was superb as Robert. No matter who he was teamed with, Luke and Laura, Tiffany, Sean, Holly, Anna, Cheryl, Scorpio was always a shinning star. And his loving interactions with Robin were priceless. I remember when that tiny little girl first grabbed his heart before he knew she was his daughter. The unconditional love there was palpable. I was so thrilled when Robert and Holly reunited and left Port Charles together. No offense to Anna; but, I always felt that Robert and Holly were the perfect match.

My deepest sympathy to his family and friends. Thank you Tristan Rogers for years of outstanding entertainment. You will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace.

When that scene aired last month with Jason dropping Sasha & Daisy off at Robert’s place, somehow I knew we were seeing him for the last time.

As much as I was hoping otherwise.

Me too. After thanking him, he bid adieu to Jason and said,” Safe travels.” Steve Burton had an expression that was organic to him, not to Jason, and it was evident that he knew it too. It felt like Tristan, through Robert Scorpio was bidding us all an adieu and a thank you. Now I guess it’s on us to thank him and wish him safe travels on his next journey. Damn, this hurts and here I am crying on the shoulder of Satan of all people.

I almost didn’t recognize you without the shtick.

Tristan Rogers didn’t introduce me to the magic of daytime television, but he’s a major reason why I’ve been a fan of the format for the past half a century. In the 80s, he was cooler than James Bond, and his interplay with Tony Geary and Genie Francis was amazing. Then, for the past decade or so, his comic timing was showcased as Robert became the elder statesman curmudgeon. As ridiculous as his recast as D.A. was, at least it kept him somewhat on-canvas.

I’m going to scour YouTube and collect as much Robert Scorpio as I can. He was one of my top five all-time television heroes and I will never forget him.

Sad news for sure, Can I just say Cancer freaking sucks, look at all the talent in daytime alone that it has taken from us, families, and all to soon, Tristan was so charismatic as Scorpio, When I think of WSB super spies, I think of Robert, Sean, Anna and Frisco, these new wannabe hold nothing in comparison. R I P Tristan, my condolences to his family and all his fans.

GH has sadly lost so many cast and past cast members in the past couple of years. Sonya Eddy, Jackie Zeman, Billy Miller, Johnny Wactor, Tyler Christopher, Leslie Charleson, Denise Alexander, Chris Robinson and now the incredible and talented Tristan Rogers. May they all RIP…

The early 80’s Robert and Luke friendship was awesome daytime TV. His good looks, his charisma, his chesire cat grin. My favorite time period was when Robert was brand new to Port Charles, LnL were broken up. Robert often gave Laura rides back n forth to her job at ELQ International. Robert often took her to lunch and dinner. It got under Luke’s skin and Robert would just grin with his charming self, which annoyed Luke more. Time passage is so hard. Most of the GH actors from that period have died in the past few years. Jackie and Tristan were 2 of my faves. I was really praying for Tristan and I’m sorry he didn’t make it. How strong he was to appear on GH so recently. So bittersweet. I pray for his family and loved ones. One more thing: he was also responsible for making Australia so popular here in the U.S. in the 80’s. He really did play a big part in pop culture back in the day. And I can’t ignore his contribution as a producer either. He really appeared to love the genre. May he rest in peace.

RIP Tristan Rogers . Been a fan since 1st appearance on GH. Always loved Anna & Robert together. I know GH will do a tribute. Hopefully Kimberly McCullough & the original Emma can at least come back for the tribute. It’s not like the writers can’t make it happrn
