Did ‘General Hospital’ Set the Stage for Erika Slezak’s Arrival After Martin Found a Shocking Letter Addressed to Monica?

With all the reports and speculation bubbling to the surface on just who One Life to Live icon, Erika Slezak (ex-Viki) will be playing when she debuts on General Hospital, today’s July 22nd cliffhanger may have provided a clue to the affirmative answer.

At the end of the episode, Martin (Michael E. Knight) comes upon a letter underneath a chair at Drew’s (Camerron Mathison) that has crayon scribbling all over it mailed to Monica Quartermaine. Martin shows it to Drew, who said Amelia and Wiley must have taken it from the Quartermaines without knowing it, and he can just toss the letter.

After Drew exits, the ever-snooping Martin decides to take out the letter inside the already opened envelope which has scribbling on one side and a written letter on the other. Martin begins to read it, “Dear Monica, I’m sorry that you are ill. I know that it’s been a long time …..”  After that, the legal eagle looks shocked! What did the rest of the letter say?

The smart bet is that Martin just learned that Monica has a sister nobody knew about it, which means, we could be close to the long-running soap opera killing-off the character, and paying tribute to the late Leslie Charleson who was the longest-tenured cast member at 47 years before her death earlier this year on January 12th.

Adding fuel to this, Daytime Confidential recently reported, “While ABC remains tight-lipped regarding who the six-time Emmy-winning actress will be playing on GH, sources tell yours truly Slezak is set to play the sister of the missing-in-action Q matriarch.”

In story, the character of Monica grew-up off-screen as an orphan and was raised by her mentor Gail Adamson (Susan Brown), which might provide some of the back-story if Slezak arrives as the sister Monica hasn’t seen or heard from in years.

GH’s executive producer Frank Valentini took to X to confirm Erika’s upcoming arrival, after Slezak’s fan club president, Walter Miller and her official website revealed she was coming to GH for a short-term role.

Photo: ABC

In his confirmation, Valentini shared, “I am thrilled to confirm that my dear friend and former One Life to Live colleague, Erika Slezak, will appear on General Hospital this Fall. Stay tuned as we prepare to introduce another daytime legend to Port Charles.”

Erika Slezak was the central heroine of One Life to Live more than 40 years, and received six Lead Actress Daytime Emmy Awards, the most for any actress in that category, and is tied with The Bold and the Beautiful’s Heather Tom (Katie Logan) for the most Daytime Emmy wins overall by an actress.

So, what did you think of Martin stumbling upon the letter addressed to Monica, which clearly was from someone from her past? Do you now believe more than ever that Erika Slezak will be playing Monica’s sister when she appears on GH? Comment below.

Unlike the retcon parentage of Cody, Sasha, and Gio (which all played rather loosely with established timelines), giving Monica a never-before seen sister is not ridiculous. Yes, she grew up in an orphanage, but there’s a lot of leeway the writers could use.

Slezak likely begins taping in September, so we’ve got a few months to let this simmer working up to Monica’s passing and a memorial.

Seeing Slezak and Elliot battle for control of Monica’s house (Alan gave it to her – because he was an idiot) should be a blast.

I hoped that Victoria Lord Buchanan would come to Port Charles. After all, Lulu has had telephone conversations with her. The Llanview Banner has been mentioned more than once. Whatever role TPTB come up with, I will be thrilled to see the one and only Erika Slezak again. I know this will be a short term role. I sincerely hope she will appear much more than one day.

Is there any reason Viki couldn’t be Monica’s sister? Her father, Victor Lord, could have had an affair with someone at some point who then dropped Monica off at the orphanage because she was unable to raise her… could pave the way for more Lords to move to Port Charles?

Yes, Victor Lord did get around. He fathered Viki, Meredith, Tony, Tina, Todd, and Victor Jr. But the thought is Monica’s sister would fight for money and maybe the mansion – two things Viki doesn’t need.

As for other “Lords moving to PC”. Meredith and Tony are long dead. The iconic Andrea Evans passed away, so they’re not going to recast Tina. The network, when last speculated, has an edict about no more sexual assault perpetrators, which is why Howarth became Austin after Franco died and Todd was not brought back.

After all that, we’re more likely to see new or legacy GH characters than import more from Llanview.

A good thought Jimmy. Heaven knows Victor Lord was a lecherous so and so.

Not certain if she will be playing Monica’s sister as Lulu has mentioned The Landview Banner, twice I believe. Could be red herrings

I’m ecstatic that Slezak will be guest starring on GH! But the “long-lost sister no one knew about” trope does a disservice to long-term viewers who watched most, if not all, of Monica’s storyline. The character is dead; the actress is dead. There is no chance for the actress to play what might have been a gripping storyline. Yet I am hopeful that Slezak’s acting will win the day.

100% agree with your thoughts on a long lost sister, especially when Lulu speaks with Vicki.

Now that would be odd to have Erika on screen playing a new character while Lulu chats to Vicki.

Well since the rights for OLTL went back to ABC, Erica might be playing vicki bc of the lulu connection but somehow make her Monica’s long lost sister or not. Whatever they do, its great to see slezak back on daytime even though its only a short story arc.

Erika Slezak’

Since her time on GH is short-term, what will the story be about?

I believe she enters to wrap up an old mystery or to wrap up an ongoing story…

Then after she will be gone.

Please, no reaching for the past and no rethought of families. I thought OLTL did that too much during its run. Oh look, another Lord heir we did not know about! I very much like the idea of Erika Slezak in a new role that connects dots and completes a picture. For me, the arrival of a long-lost sister to Monica Quartermaine is an acceptable twist. How wonderful for Leslie Charleson to be remembered and celebrated with the involvement if another celebrated and beloved daytime colleague. The thought of Miss Slezak sharing scenes with Jane Eliot is too exciting to be believed. I relish a classy storyline featuring veterans, hopefully without making it opportunity for the overused tropes of more surprise children and forgotten affairs. I wish Miss Charleson’s health allowed her more visibility on the show. And it is sad that Denise Alexander and Lesley Webber are gone too. That is sad as Lesley will not be present to say goodbye. Will the show say goodbye to her and how?

General Hospital’s Tuesday, May 19 episode left many on the edge of their seats with several key stories escalating to the point where what happens next could be the pivotal moments for all involved,

First, Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) gets a call and learns that Anna (Finola Hughes) was moved to a high-security facility for the criminally insane. He fights back tears as he tells Carly (Laura Wright) that this is all Cullum’s (Andrew Hawkes) doing and he knows it. Valentin tells Carly that Anna must be so scared. He announces he is going to head to France to break her out of the mental institution. Carly clearly sees he still has deep feelings for Anna? Is she jealous?

Meanwhile, PCPD newbie Joe Fitzpatrick (Jonathan Bennett) is already ready to resign from his new gig, because he learns of everyone’s relationship to everyone in town. Joe does not like that Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) intended to bury Curtis’s (Donnell Turner) arrest.  Joe clearly saw a pregnant woman worried and a man being punched out after Curtis hit Isaiah. Dante assures Joe he runs a tight ship at the PCPD and that Joe had done his job with arresting Curtis. What is in Joe’s past that gets him so upset about injustice?

BROTHERLY WARNING

At Wyndemere, Cullum confronts Sidwell (Carlo Rota) believing Danny Morgan (Asher Antonyzyn) may have shot him. Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) shows up with an update on finishing the prototype and says it should be online in the next 24 hours. Now, she needs her mediation. Before Cullum will inject her, he wants to know why she lied about who shot him. Britt fires back that Jason had been the only person on the pier when she regained consciousness. She says, she believed Jason shot him, adding “I’m only sorry he didn’t shoot you twice.”

After Rocco (Finn Carr) warned Danny and Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) to stay away from Wyndemere, the two went anyway. Once there and outside on the patio, they eavesdropped on the conversation between Cullum and Britt and heard shocking information.

CULLUM AND DANNY COME FACE TO FACE

Rocco tries to tell Gio (Giovanni Mazza) what is going on with Danny, Charlotte and shooting Cullum, but he gets so upset he can’t get the words out and leaves. Gio promises Emma he will help his brother after disappointing him twice before.

Back on Spoon Island, Danny and Charlotte decided to sneak into the living room at Wyndemere, when everyone left. Danny wants to go down to the basement and find out what’s going on and take photos of the secret project and turn it over to Dante. Suddenly, they are stopped in their tracks when Cullum appears. We fade to black.

So, what do you think will happen now that Danny and Charlotte are at Wyndemere? Will they get out of there? Will they get trapped by Cullum? What is the backstory with with Joe? And, do you want Valentin with Anna or Valentin with Carly? Let us know in the comment section. But first, check out this clip and conversation between Dante and Joe from yesterday’s GH, followed by the teaser for today’s all-new epiosde.

‘General Hospital’s’ Tanisha Harper Opens Up About Being a Recast for the Role of Jordan Ashford

On General Hospital, Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper) is having her own crisis to deal with since the accident that scarred and disfigured her face. In addition, the man she loves, Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) was just hauled into the PCPD for punching out Dr. Isaiah Gannon (Sawandi Wilson). Curtis is determined to put the blame on Dr. Gannon for being the driver of the other car.

Such is the drama that Tanisha Harper is currently involved in on the long-running ABC daytime drama. Harper sat down with hosts Rebecca Budig (Taylor, The Bold and the Beautiful) and Greg Rikaart (Leo, Days of Our Lives) for the latest edition of their Soapy podcast which dropped on Tuesday.

As GH fans know, there have been a total of four actresses to play the role of Jordan. Vinessa Antoine (2014–2018), Briana Nicole Henry (2018–2021): Tiffany Daniels (2021) who temporarily filled-in for Henry while she was recovering from Covid-19, and Tanisha Harper (2022- present).

FINOLA HUGHES WAS A BIG CHEERLEADER FOR TANISHA

Tanisha recalls her screen-test for the role which was actually with Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) and Finola Hughes (Anna): “They were wonderful. I just adore Finola.  I remember when I had finished one of the scenes, and I think we were doing another scene, or another take in a different way, and she was like, “You got this. You’re gonna get this.”  She was so positive, so great, and just so lovely and it made me feel so good.”

BECOMING THE NEXT JORDAN ASHFORD

In addition, Harper shared how she really didn’t know what part she actually would be playing till shortly before her first day on set. “There were two other Jordans, and then there was another girl before me and Brianna,” she detailed. “Initially, I didn’t know that was the role I was going for. So I thought it was for the district attorney. Once I had booked the job, I think about a week before when they sent the script to me, they’re like, ‘You’re going to be playing the character Jordan.’ Even though she been played by two other girls, they didn’t want me to go in and try to emulate how the other girls did their performances. They just wanted me make it my own, and do my own thing.  I think that helped. I didn’t really know anything about the character at all, and it was kind of hard at the time to see online other people’s performances. So, I was forced to make the character my own.”

JORDAN’S INSIDE JOB TO TAKE DOWN SIDWELL

Recently, Jordan went back to using her undercover skills to infiltrate Sidwell’s (Carlo Rota) organization and get the dirt on his crimes. As she explained her character’s current plight, “Jordan decided to take it upon herself to go undercover to get this bad guy Sidwell, who’s come into town. So I resign from my position, and now my character has been working for him undercover, but he’s a very wealthy man. So my character, she was enjoying that life. She’s all of a sudden walking around with her fancy bags and her cars, but she’s still undercover. Now, Jordan was in a big car accident and now her face is all scarred.” Viewers need to stay tuned-in to GH to see what happens next!

Watch the full conversation with Tanisha on her visit to the Soapy podcast below.

Now weigh-in, do you think Jordan will eventually get the goods on Sidwell, or is she useless in this situation? Will she wind up needing Sidwell to get her to some specialist to help remove the scars on her face? What do you think about Tanisha’s process to becoming the recast Jordan? Let us know in the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Emma Wants to Save Anna, Isaiah’s Career is All But Destroyed, Joe Makes an Arrest

Published

The Monday, May 18 episode of General Hospital brought with it a startling discovery, a new reality for one surgeon, a new cop on the scene, and a granddaughter determined to protect her grandmother.

First, Laura (Genie Francis) tells Mac (John J. York) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) that Anna (Finola Hughes) is in worse trouble than she was previously after she had Kevin to check on her while he was in Europe. They head out to update Emma (Braedyn Bruner) and Felicia (Kristina Wagner).

Meanwhile, Emma gets upset over Anna during a discussion with Felicia and breaks Anna’s favorite coffee cup. Emma is overcome with sadness and cries, trying to figure out how she is supposed to be so happy with Gio (Giovanni Mazza), while Anna is locked away somewhere against her own will.

BAD NEWS FOR EMMA

Laura and Mac arrive to talk with Emma and Felicia, and reveal how Anna escaped and made it to the border, but she was now in the custody of the French authorities and they are transferring her to a long term mental illness facility, which freaks out Emma just as Gio arrives. Emma runs into his arms. Laura says at this point, Anna needs a strong advocate and she will make a call on her behalf. (But to who?)

At the Metro Court pool, Curtis (Donnell Turner) is arrested by Detective Joe Fitzpatrick (Jonathan Bennett) after throwing a punch at Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson). Joe takes Curtis to the station where Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) tells Fitzgerald to remove Curtis’ handcuffs. Now inside the interrogation room, Curtis explains that he believes Isaiah left he and Jordan (Tanisha Harper) dead at the side of the road the night of the accident and provoked him.

BROKEN HAND, BROKEN MAN

Curtis just wants to put it all behind him and says he will pay for Isaiah’s medical bills, but Dante informs him, he is trouble and he needs to call a lawyer. So, he calls Jordan. Meanwhile, Isaiah gets looked at while at General Hospital, and his hand is messed up. He comes to learn he will need multiple surgeries not only for broken bones but two tendons were severed in the process. Isaiah realizes his surgical days are numbered possibility forever, if not for a very long time.

JOSSLYN FINDS ANNA’S MESSAGE

While being held hostage, Josslyn (Eden McCoy) tries again to convince Cassius (Ryan Paevey) to set her free. That leads into the two playing cards and Cassius asking Josslyn how she got into the WSB. Josslyn admits her boyfriend was murdered and she killed the person who was the culprit for retribution. She says she put together all the pieces that he did the crime, and now this line of work gives her purpose.

In the shocking final moments, after Cassius leaves for the night, Josslyn heads to the cot in the other part of the holding room and sees a hand-carved message on the wall from Anna that she was there and help captive on October 31, 2025.  We fade to black.

So what did you think of the concern Emma showed for Anna, and the performance of Braedyn Bruner? What are your very initial impressions of Jonathan Bennett as Joe Fitzgerald? Which character is annoying you more in the story …  Curtis, Jordan, Portia or Isaiah? Weigh-in via the comment section.
