General Hospital To Feature Storyline With U.S. Veteran In Upcoming Episodes As Part of ABC's "Home For The Holidays" Campaign!

General Hospital will take part in ABC’s Home for Holidays campaign kicking off today.  On GH, look for the soap to incorporate a storyline featuring a U.S. Veteran in its upcoming episodes!

But this initiative from ABC is far reaching throughout all of its programming as the holidays near.  ABC Primetime Series will feature veterans in cameo roles and/or as part of storylines in upcoming episodes of Modern Family, and Last Man Standing ,and The Neighbors is offering a veteran the opportunity to shadow one of their directors while Daytime’s The View and The Chew will lend their support through various themed episodes throughout the holiday season.  ABC News is joining the initiative across all of their programming throughout November and December.

As part of ABC’s annual Home for the Holidays campaign and in support of Disney’s company – wide “Heroes Work Here” initiative, which served as the foundation for a recent Veteran’s hiring event at Walt Disney World featuring a keynote address by First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama, ABC will honor our military veterans with several new elements this year by premiering five short films written, directed, and produced by U.S. Veterans highlighting the creative work from our military servicemen and women.

Five talented U.S. Veterans with aspirations to work in the entertainment industry were selected to create digital short films which will be thematically centered around U.S. Veterans coming home this holiday season.  As part of the initiative, these five U.S. Veteran storytellers and their short films will be mentored throughout the creative process by experienced creative teams from some of ABC’s most   successful series. The five short films will begin to debut on ABC.com today!

In addition, Grammy award winning group, Lady Antebellum will record a cover of Kenny Loggins “Celebrate Me Home” which will be the official anthem of ABC’s Home for the Holidays.

So, how will GH work a U.S Veteran into their storylines?  What do you think of ABC’s Home for the Holidays campaign?

I feel that any attempt by this show to do any type of public service is in poor taste at best and completely ludicrous at worst. This is a show that features a war veteran who now is a murderer for hire. Not because he has to…he wants to. He enjoys it…he needs it. He threatens to shove a man’s hand into a deep fryer and does it with a look of glee on his face. This is a show that glorifies violence of all kinds. The “heroes” on this show are thugs, mobsters and murderers. This is similar to… Read more »

This us where people in good mental separate the fiction from reality, the Vet being honored, given a day to act to dream, is reality 🙂 What is being done is for vets who want to be in the entertainment industry to work have a chance others can only dream of having… A great opportunity for them. re-read,, ABC is far reaching throughout all of its programming as the holidays near. Huh….didn’t YR just have two episodes revolving around our vets. GH seems like they are playing catch up?

Didn’t Y&R just do that. It sound like they are copying CBS daytime.

These things take time to plan so it is doubtful they copied them. It might have been CBS who caught wind of what ABC/D was planning months ago and they made sure they got a mini version out before ABC’s could air— who knows. Also, I am not American, but hasn’t this been a pet cause of the first lady for a while, perhaps she or her people contacted studios asking them to do something during November holiday season and both CBS and ABC took up the call. Whatever happened I think in this case even someone copied another no… Read more »

Stars React to Alec Baldwin Fatally Shooting Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins & Injuring Director, Joel Souza, In Prop Gun Mishap On Set of ‘Rust’

UPDATED: Over the last 24 hours, the entertainment world has been stunned, by the horrific incident that took place on the set of the western drama Rust, while it was shooting scenes in New Mexico.

What is known is that Alec Baldwin (Ex-The Doctors, Knots Landing) discharged a prop gun that killed Director of Photography, Halyna Hutchins and injured director, Joel Souza.  The film also stars Frances Fisher (Ex-Edge of Night) and Jensen Ackles (Ex-Days of our Lives). Baldwin is also a producer on the film.

According to Variety, the prop gun contained a “live single round,” according to an email sent by IATSE Local 44 to its membership.

On Friday, Alec Baldwin made a statement via Twitter on his Hilaria and Alec Baldwin Foundation Twitter feed, expressing: “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours. I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”

Yesterday, The Sante Fe Sheriff’s Departments originally shared that “Hutchins, 42, and Souza, 48 were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin.  Ms. Hutchins was transported, via helicopter, to University of New Mexico Hospital where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Mr. Souza was transported by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical center where he was undergoing treatment for his injuries. This investigation remains open and active. No charges have been filed in regard to this incident. Witnesses continue to be interviewed by detectives.”

This morning, Frances Fisher revealed in a twitter conversation with Patricia Arquette, that director Joel Souza had been released from the hospital.  Meanwhile, photographs of a distraught Baldwin emerged following the shooting.

The news of the Baldwin prop gun incident, isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Jon-Erik Hexum was killed on October 18, 1984, on the set of the TV show Cover Up when he accidentally shot himself in the head with a gun loaded with blanks. Then, in 1993, Brandon Lee, the son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee, died from a prop gun accident on the set of The Crow by a cast member.

As the news made its way through the entertainment community and mainstream news, several soap stars shared their reactions to the fatal shooting accident.

General Hospital’s Jon Lindstrom (Kevin/Ryan) expressed: “Feeling so sad for everyone involved in the tragedy on the #RustMovie set. I do know the film was staffed with experienced, thoughtful professionals. Please, let’s wait until we have the facts. Nothing positive will come from passing judgement or casting aspersions before then.”

General Hospital and Dynasty’s Emma Samms (Holly, Fallon) shared on her friend Jon-Erik Hexum’s death: This AWFUL tragedy on #Rust is unfathomable to me. If all on-set protocols were being adhered to, how, on earth, could it have happened? After what happened to Brandon Lee and my dear friend Jon-Erik Hexam, the firearm protocols became incredibly strict. I was told (when I was with him at the hospital afterwards) that Jon-Erik had been working with a completely empty gun all morning. A blank (still very dangerous) was loaded and then immediately there was a delay. Exhausted, he was allowed to fall asleep – loaded gun in hand. hey woke him, but there was immediately another delay. Jon-Erik put the gun to his head, forgetting it now contained a blank, (because he had just woken up) and jokingly pulled the trigger. He was not the kind of person to play around with a loaded gun. #fortherecord”

We will continue to post reactions and update this story.

What are your thoughts on the fatal shooting on the set of Rust? Comment below.  How can this not happen again, so everyone is safe in this working environment when ‘dangerous’ props are called for or used to make a movie or a TV show?

Ahead of the popular soap duo’s vows, Courtney asked some of her Y&R co-stars advice, but as their characters in a very cute Instagram video on The Young and the Restless IG account with the accompanying text: “Marriage advice you don’t normally hear… as told by the #YR stars 😉 A special thank you to our real-life bride-to-be @TheCourtneyHope for asking! 😂”

Participating are: Peter Bergman (Jack), Amelia Heinle (Victoria), Michelle Stafford (Phyllis), Mishael Morgan (Amanda), Christian LeBlanc (Michael, Eileen Davidson (Ashley), Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe), and Christel Khalil (Lily).

In terms of advice, Amelie Heinle told Hope, “As Victoria Newman, I would say that you need to marry a man that is not going to be around for very long, and especially if he has a lot of money.”

Christel Khalil offered up some Lily marital suggestions: “Don’t let your husband let you think that he’s dead and that you’ve slept with a ghost!”

As for Courtney and Chad, the couple had been dating for five years, and this past Valentine’s Day, they became engaged.

Please share your well-wishes to Courtney and Chad as they embark on their life together via the comment section below, and let us know what you think of the marital advice given to Hope from the citizens of Genoa City.
