General Hospital
GENERAL HOSPITAL: What Did You Think of the Carly and Nina Showdown?
Wednesday’s episode of General Hospital brought with it the long-awaited and highly-anticipated showdown between Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) and Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) and ended with Carly’s threat to Nina for all she has perpetrated on Sonny (Maurice Benard) and his loves ones, shouting to Jason (Steve Burton), “I’m going to burn Nina’s life down and spit on her ashes!”
But before all that, Carly found Nina at the Q’s, and thus began the confrontation. Armed with the information from Maxie (Kirsten Storms), that it was Nina who kept Sonny from his life for over nine months, Carly comes at Nina that she will pay the consequences for what she did. Nina says she regrets what she has done, and is sorry for the pain she caused everyone. However, there was a caveat to her response. She says Carly isn’t owning up to her part.

Now we get the back-story of reasoning to Carly; about the phone call that set Nina off on this deception in the first place. When she tells Carly she called to tell her she found Sonny alive in Nixon Falls, Carly was so hateful to her on the phone call about her rights to see her grandson, Wiley, so she withheld the truth. Carly gets another shocker when Nina drops that Jax (Ingo Rademachee) knew, too.
Carly then figures out this is payback time for what happened to Nina’s daughter, Nelle. When Carly says the world is better off without Nelle, Nina goes into how Carly did not tell anyone about Nelle’s fall and kept it quiet! She then says that Carly got Sonny back, but she will never get her daughter back. Carly is still in disbelief that Nina could do this to all of Sonny’s kid … not tell them their father was alive. Nina counters she will apologize to everyone, but not ever to Carly.
Then, Nina says to Carly she should just be happy that Sonny’s back, but drops another cryptic message expressing, that she wonders, “how long he’ll be happy?” She then really hits Carly with a low blow sharing that “Mike” was happy with his life and not having to witness or deal with the mob violence that took Morgan.
That was enough to send Carly finally into a full-on rage against Nina, but Jason arrives on the scene, throwing himself between the women, with Carly screaming that Nina will never see Wiley again ,and as mentioned at the top of this recap, that she is going to destroy Nina’s life in retribution.
What Carly still does not know is that “Mike” fell in love with Nina. What will happen when she learns that?
Great performances by Laura Wright and Cynthia Watros throughout the key scenes.
So, what did you think of the showdown? Did it live up to your expectations? What do you hope happens next? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
I love that they let it rip! Both of these actresses gave a great performance and set the stage for what could be a huge story winner for everyone involved. I am just waiting for Nina or Sonny to drop the bomb that they were involved while in Nixon Falls. Then Carly and Jason’s near-consummated relationship will come out, too. Juicy stories to come…
Carly waiting until Jason opens the door to go at Nina. LOL. I would’ve grabbed her and started swinging her around the room rt away knowing what Maxi told her. I hope Sonny doesn’t go for Nina after all her lies and keeping him away from his family. No to Jason and Carly ! Sonny is Back!
Team Nina all the way! Against the insufferable, self-righteous witch Carly!
As usual James, you and I agree. Yes, it’s true that what Nina did was absolutely wrong (the latest in her string of bad choices). And, do I still believe Nina is an unnecessary character on the canvas, yes. However, any time a character can get under Carly’s skin, they get points in my book. That’s why I even like Gladys — not for her sticking her nose into Brando’s life, but for constantly needling the former “Widow Corinthos”.
We haven’t really heard much from Gladys since her date to the wedding blew himself up with his own bomb.
Gotta wonder if that changed her perspective about involving herself with a rival mob family….
I was hoping Gladys was in the car with her date when the car blew up!
yeah, me too. The dragons were looking forward to eating.. uh… meeting her.
Yes! I’m Team Nina, too! I actually like what bond was built between Nina and Mike and miss them in Nixon Falls with Lenny and Phyllis whom I loved, what a refreshing couple and I was completely shocked when they killed off Lenny.
Anyway, of course Nina totally deceived everyone, however, I adore Cynthia Watros, she was pretty damn strong and bold in yesterday’s episode. No comment about Carly/Laura Wright.
I kinda actually hope Sonny dumps Carly at some point for Nina.
Oh Jamesj75, thanks for taking a probably unpopular road here. Here’s my take: Yes, we all know Nina was deluded, selfish, whatever. But Sonny is right. She’s a sad person who’s had a rough emotional life; she’s emotionally adrift but not malicious in general. Can Carly say the same? I love Laura Wright and she salvages the Carly character for me. But shall we list the litany of HER sins which she so easily dismisses? Even Monica only stomachs her because of Jason. Nina needs to visit a shrink, not the police. Can Carly say the same? I would be p.o.’d if I were Carly, no doubt. But Sonny AND Maxie are the most reasonable voices in this, and Carly needs to cool off and back off. And threatening Nina’s access to Wiley is something most of us saw coming from Day One of this tired tale. After she calls Dr. Kevin, Nina needs to call Scotty. She’s gonna need them both.
Jamesj75–
___ Two thumbs up !!!!
To the thoughtful friends who replied to me here: Rather than reply individually, I will say this — I appreciate each of you, as you know, whether you agree with me wholeheartedly or in part, or even when we may disagree. And I know I have opened myself to opposing views or even criticism, too, with my comment. That is fine, too.
I have chosen not to be a part of any other social media. So the interactions here are closest to that, and I have always been grateful for those interactions and even friendships, if you will. We can truly impact others’ lives in a positive way, even online, with just a kind word. That is what you (and others here) have done for me, and I sincerely thank you for that. Take care, Friends…
We all know Carly is never going to be nominated for sainthood, but that’s not the point here. What Nina did was 666% indefensible. And it ended up hurting a lot more people than just Carly. Phyllis (Nina’s supposed friend) no longer has a home or a business. Maxie & her children are once again at risk from Whiny Heiny – who is also holding her “Aunt Liesl” as a hostage. And poor little Wiley, the grandson she claims to love so much… yeah, she kept his grandfather away from him for 9 months.
And when all Hell was breaking loose in the burning bar, all Nina could think of was “what is this going to do to ME and MY plans??”
Yeah, she’s just as psycho as she was when the original Nina cut little baby Avery right out of Ava’s body. Maybe if they lock her up in a nuthouse for a while, she might find not so dead Nell in there, and they can finally have their mother-daughter bonding.
Phyllis not having a home or business is Peter’s doing, not Nina’s. Sorry, but why do people favor a mobster, his enforcer and his hideous shrill self-righteous wife? Why are they the center of the show? Have you ever asked yourself why does everybody who ought to hate Sonny love him so much? It’s beyond disgusting!
My hope is that Sonny remembers that he was better off as Mike, rejects his life as Sonny completely, gets together with Nina, and gets away from Jason and Carly entirely.
The only reason Whiny Heiny was present in the bar to set it on fire is that he was blackmailing Nina with the fact that she was hiding Sonny from his family, and keeping the truth from Sonny himself that she knew exactly who he was. So that makes her responsible for anything Heiny did as a result of that information.
Sonny, much like his wife, will never be nominated for sainthood, but that doesn’t justify what Nina did to him.
That is investing that you refer to Neil as not so dead. I too think she will be back in the picture.
Nina definitely need help. There is a dark side to her.
Cynthia Watros was amazing!!! Loved how she really let Carly have it!!! I absolutely despise Carly – she’s a terrible mother, a horrible friend, just a despicable character, and it bugs me no end how she is the lead on the show (I love Laura Wright but I prefer her in quieter scenes; don’t care for her at all when it’s shrill and shouty). I abhor that Sonny, Carly and Jason are the leads on the show – a mobster, his moll wife, and his enforcer – sorry, but they shouldn’t be the leads. How about rootable heroes and heroines? How about not having every single character just love and adore the mobster Sonny? It’s gross!
I love Nina. What she did was wrong but I don’t care, I am on her side. Carly is beyond hideous. I find myself swearing at the screen when Carly gets all self-righteous.
I hope Sonny decides to live his life as Mike with Nina and leaves the grotesque disgusting Sonny persona behind forever.
Richard, glad we are on the same page regarding Carly, Sonny, and Jason. I have the same abhorrence as you regarding these leads on the show. We both used the term “self-righteous” to describe Carly. And I compliment you on your further use of adjectives describing Sonny and/or Carly, gross, hideous, grotesque, disgusting, and despicable — how apropos!
I still have hope for Jason. The scenes between Ned and him on Thursday were rather touching. Jason realizing there are consequences and admitting he’s still part of the Quartermaine family. While I want Britt to keep telling him off, if Jason does something significant to win her back, it’s a pairing that works.
Eventually, there has to be a writer that has the guts to create a storyline where Jason regains (at least fragments of) his pre-accident memories.
Steve, thanks again for your recent replies. Your points about Jason are indeed legit. Your suggestion for a writer with guts (when it comes to Jason) is certainly worth exploring and might give the character a softer side with appeal, just as Sonny’s stint as Mike has apparently done.
I keep hearing how fabulous Cynthia is/was but I just don’t see it? I saw a lot of great acting on gh but it tends to be from Maura west and Laura Wright… I can not see why we have Wes on our screens or this sad Nina show… they def need to put her in therapy or to show that there r repercussions to aiding a fugitive? But so far I haven’t seen Nina accept responsibility for her actions at all… I saw more passion in the scenes w Kirsten storms and Eden and Laura…
You are so right! Inasmuch as I expressed my praises for Cynthia, Maura West cannot be “overrun”—“My cup runneth over”. No contest there—
She and Laura W are amazing in their scenes together. Today; ths sarcasm flowing smoothly from Ava’s lips was a literary masterpiece—-so unassumingly fluid.
Carly gave tit for tat—-But, Ava won this round.
I thought the scenes were lackluster knowing these actresses range. Feels like GH is quickly wrapping up the stories.
Sorry,I am with Carly! What Nina did is inexcusable. For almost a year, she kept her mouth shut! Burn it down, Carly!!
I’m with Carly! I can’t believe everyone is keeping Nina’s secret of being in love with”Mike”, including Sonny!
I hope the storyline doesn’t go the way of Nina and Somny together. I love Carly and Sonny.
It was great soap!
Maurice got to play a different character, he was awesome as Mike..
I really luved watching the love story of Nina and Mike develop..
Both Carly and Nina are in the dirt..
Carly has done her share of diabolical ”inexcusable” things.. Time to pay-
it’s soap at its best.
Wow! What an episode. It was everything I wanted and more. Nina is clearly delusional. I hope Carly does take her down. Not sure what that will look like but I’m sure GH writing team won’t let us down!
Carly is despicable. They let us down every time they allow Carly to win. She is wrong 100% of the time. She is a terrible mother, a horrible friend, and totally awful in every single way. The writers let us down every time they favor Carly, Sonny and Jason and continue to put these hideous characters at the center of the show instead of the rootable heroes and heroines who deserve to be at the center of the show. No more mobsters, enforcers and their wives who put their children and loved ones at terrible risk.
Seriously, who are these “rootable heroes and heroines” you keep talking about who you believe should be the center of the show?
If it’s ANY character that’s joined the show after February 2012, wrong answer. Especially if it’s any character that’s changed their names at least twice since then.
Probably the only exception in post 2/12 characters would be Curtis. I think he’s a great character, but I don’t think he’s likely to become an “anchor” of the show…. though I seriously hope he gets a featured role when the time comes to break NuDrew out of whatever Cassadine dungeon he’s locked up in, since Curtis is really the only friend the original Drew had in Port Charles – as everybody else in Drew’s life got to know him when he was living Jason’s life. So by all means, let Curtis lead that storyline.
For characters introduced since 2012, you’d probably have to put Chase in the rootable hero column, but I don’t think anyone’s saying he’d be the center of the show.
The best characters introduced in the last 10 years that have staying power are those with questionable morals, but mostly understandable motives for doing what they do. Three that come to mind — Ava, Britt and Liesl. Of course, strong acting chops adds to the longevity.
I suspect Chase is popular based more on his physical appearance than anything else. As a character, he hasn’t really done all that much.
Problem with Ava is that she’s gotten away with too many really serious things. She killed Connie outright, and was about 95% responsible for AJ’s most recent death. Everybody remembers that Sonny was holding the gun, but seem to forget whose gun it was, and that she had already pulled the trigger, but the gun somehow jammed up. Or why AJ was there in the first place…. and for that matter, the fact that he died in a hospital bed, not directly from that single gunshot wound. Probably an injection of something into his IV causing cardiac arrest (and three guesses who did that) And of course there’s all the damage she did to Morgan… her tampering with his meds is what put him in Julian’s car when Olivia Jerome’s bomb went off… so let’s just call that one a Jerome family “team effort”.
Say what you want about Sonny, Jason, and Carly, but they have all paid for their sins in one way or another, and they have all been in prison at least once. Ava’s never had to spend a day behind bars. Being with Nikolas “humanized” her to some degree, but it’s like all her previous crimes have been forgotten.
Britt has grown as a character… something that would never have been possible when ReRon was writing her as a MiniMe of her mother. Didn’t expect to see her as a serious match for Jason, but oddly enough, it seemed to work, for a short time. Maybe they’ll get another shot, now that Jason doesn’t have to be “married” to Carly.
Speaking of Liesl… she’s less of a cartoon character than she used to be, but it’s probably a big leap to put her in the “heroine” camp or expect her to drive any major storylines. Though if she kills Whiny Heiny, I’ll definitely reserve her an air conditioner when she arrives in Hell. (yeah, she ain’t that redeemed just yet that she would go the other direction)
Could not have written this synopsis/abridgment better, Satan. Perfetto!! You are a gem!!
Okay Richard, you hate Carly, its obvious! She is a horrible character but a great actress. Who do you want at the center of the show? Epiphany and Brando? Sonny, Carly and Jason are front and center. Its a fact and it wont change. Just like the Luke haters, GH was HIS show until HE said it was over. If you didnt like that or dont like the current superstars, CLICK!
One thing that made Luke somewhat tolerable was that you knew there would be 4 months every year when we wouldn’t see him due to Geary’s negotiated extended vacation.
At the start of the Nixon Falls storyline, Bernard was featured less. I think most viewers would be happy with a balanced storyline approach. Under Frank, it’s a lot better than JFP/Guza, maybe not exactly to what many viewers might prefer.
Correct, Timmmy—I loved Luke—just as I like Laura. Not a fan of Carly, but I can ( most of the time) separate the actor/actress from the portrayed character.
I also like Nina. I love and admire Stafford, so I was kind of hesitant and quite critical of Cynthis at first—-but, she proved her mettle as a skilled thespian to me —-and I think she is killing the role.
I do think that eventually Nina and Sonny will end up togeter—I hope not. Just my opinion.
Anna and Valentin don’t work for me either.
Then there’s Michael and Willow—-he is so blah!!!! And, he’s taking Williw down into his ‘blahness’ with him. There is not one redeeeming or inspiring quality to be found in him. Why take her from Chase?? The PTB are not thinking straight.
If a couple’s chemistry works, just don’t mess with it by sticking some of the most lackluster characters in the midst.
Michelle Stafford IS Phyliss and belongs on Y&R. Cynthia, didnt now much about her but knew she had a resume. She found Nina and she IS Nina! She does great. She was pretty darn good with “Mike.” I loved it because I knew Carly would blow her top when this all came out.
Michael is a co-star killer! Any women who he is paired with goes from a possibility to a dose of Nyquil!
Chase isnt much better!
I cannot stand Valentin BUT he is better than watching Anna and Finn in a relationship. I like Finn and Liz together better. [FIZ!]
I love Jason and Britt together. She humanized him more than any other actress he has been involved with.
TCB baby!
I agree with you, Timmmy—Cynthia IS Nina. Stafford is where she belongs—Y&R as Phyllis. I have had a girl-crush on her since her first appearance on the Y&R stage.
I just don’t like Sonny. And, I skip through any love scenes with him in them.
Carly’s heart is not with Sonny. She’s going through the motions—-her body is there—but, at this point, it’s routine.
What are the chances of another magical baby? It’s starting to look like Alighieri’s “Divine Comedy” gone awry—better yet, Willie’s “The Taming Of The Shrew”.
I only liked Finn with Heyden—I guess I could eventually see him with Liz, but the idea of anyone sleeping with her brother-in-law or vice versa, is gross to me. It’s a soap—I’ll get over it. LOL.
Later, T
Celia, I was sssooooo angry that they, predictably, pulled Willow from Chase toward that wimpy, simpy Michael. Can he not afford a bottle of shampoo? And he’s the poster child for failed relationships, not to mention that his ex-lovers Nelle, Sabrina, Kiki, and Abby all met terrible ends. But… now that I see Chase and Brook Lynn (whom I’m warming to) getting closer, I’m encouraged. At least she appreciates how fine he is. And a great person, too.
Yes, I was thinking that Brook Lynn and Chase could bevan item, at least, the writers are steering us in that direction—but, he is so pure of heart, Soaphound. I may be off-base, here—-but Brook-Lynn strikes me as a very jaded woman. Chase deserves better and more. Nonetheless, I am a fan of Brook Lynn—tells it like it is without hypocrisy, which runs so rampant everywhere I look these days!!
Michael!! What can I say? Perfect match for Sally —-forgot the last name. Electra? ( Y&R). LOL.
Carly is for Carly only the only exception is her children Even Sonny has to tow the line That is why he hasn’t mentioned the love connection with Nina. Also he is slitly confused about his true fillings for Nina but either way it will be interesting to see how it come to a point
Yes!!!! I did say it and I will repeat it,MJR—Sonny will eventually come to realize that Nina has his heart—-how to extricate himself from his He-woman wife? The Irony is; Carly wants Jason. What to do, oh, what to do.
I hear you, Celia, but in my case the final question is “Why to care, oh, why to care?” I’m so burnt out on Mike or Sonny or whoever the heck he is this month…He’s a bore, a chore, and a snore. Nina deserves better in spite of her sins. And puppy dog Jason missed the boat with Britt. Even Sorry Sam has moved on, if dullard Dante can be considered moving anywhere. How about their new “sleuthing soiree”? They’re as clever and stealthy as a Panzer tank on D-Day.
Too funny!! A Panzer tank? So analogously put—-I see Sam and Dante as, possibly, the two most gauche characters on stage, Soaphound—I ask: how do these background nonentities always manage to appear relevant? I don’t get it!!
After watching a scene with them, I never exclaim, “WOW, what a performance””—-their ibanter is inane–not even fit for a couple of adolescents. My sixteen-year-old niece’s dialogue with her boyfriend is more intellectually interesting. The PTB should treat them as mature adults—that’s what they are!
It seems that there’s no room anywhere to place them, so whenever a new plot/storyline arises, ye gods insert them by conjuring up certain “situations” just for them. Mamma mia !!
Agrred about Sonny/Mike—-No story there, as far as I’m concerned. ‘It’s definitely a farce to see any woman desperately get into a cat fight over him.
GO CARLY!!!! Burn that Bi###’s life down.
Because Carly is so righteous and pure? Yup—-let’s see:… “How have I cheated and schemed–let me count the times….”, says Carly’s conscience and lack thereof—
One is no better than the other when we get down to the nitty gritty.
I’m a fan of these two ladies. Both ladies are great actors but I have not been wowed by the ending of the amnesia-Nixon Falls chapter. (The writing.)
Everything from the fire, to Sonny’s return, to this showdown between Nina and Carly. For me, it has felt lackluster despite the talented actors on this show.
In the meantime, I have preferred the segments surrounding Britt and how she’s evolving in various types of relationships. I like how they’ve written for her character this year.
I think Sonny will come to have a bond to Nina, eventually. I did like the Mike part of Sonny
Laura and Kevin the only “couple” on the show lately…
Scotty and Liesl, Cam and Joss, Brando and Sasha are 3 other couples. Sadly, there’s also Michael and Willow if you can stay awake through their scenes.
I stand corrected
Both Laura and Cynthia were phenomenal, and Nina made some really good points about Carly’s past, specifically with keeping harmful secrets (Michael’s paternity, Nelle being Nina’s daughter, etc.) Even though it doesn’t excuse what Nina did, and I think it’s clear that she’s sinking back into her mental illness, it rang true why Nina resents Carly so much. I only wish Nelle were still alive so she and Nina could team up, it would be so juicy to see!
–
I have a feeling we’re heading down the road of Carly and Jason not being able to hide their decades-long feelings for each other, while Sonny eventually forgives Nina and begins moving towards her as the divide between him and Carly grows. Even though I don’t want to see a Carly/Jason or Sonny/Nina pairing, I think that’s where the writers are teasing this going.
Loved these scenes; great acting & the drama that was needed leading up to the dreaded wedding. I’m all for Carly taking delusional Nina down. I’m interested to see what the rationale was for Mike not wanting to know about his background. For Nina & Jax to ignore his kids is indefensible & honestly I don’t remember Sonny not being happy with who he was prior to that happening. He was sad about his dad, but not unhappy with is life. Hope it wraps up soon though because it’s taken too long and away from other great stories that have lost momentum because of this one. Side note: hope we know get a chance to see Jason/Britt because Steve and Kelly have fabulous chemistry!
Nina could have shut down Carly if she had
told Carly Sonny/Mike was in love with her and she with him..
And then really shovel it on with the in-love detals aha!
And- both get a bravo! superb acting, indeed!! they brought it home!
Carly has no ground- she’s in love with Jason and married him
”for real” as they said..
They are both dirty–
Anyways–a great episode!!
I bet Sonny will stand by Nina, eventually–
he remembers/feels the love and
‘in love’ doesn’t ‘snap’ go away.
Sonny is fighting it.
SuOOO
Thanks, you saved me lot of typing.Bravo!
I think Carly ought to beat the living snot out of her she is way too easy on her
Team Nina here. Tired of the Carla/Jason rewrite. Anyone who watched Cynthia Watros as Annie Dutton on GL knows she can hold her own.
As I’ve said before, Sonny’s return was a big disappointment for me as was this battle of the blondes. While I do not condone what Nina did, while watching it, I could understand HER rationalization of the situation. I expected more anger from Sonny towards Nina and as Carly gets more angry and shrewish, I think he’ll relive and remember their time together and eventually their love. I also don’t think that was the end of Phyllis and expect to see her in PC before long. Nina and Sonny owe her so much and will want to help her.
Helping Phyllis in Port Charles will be what brings them back together.
Well, Phyllis is a nurse, so she could always get a gig at GH. Since Ava made a point of saying Charlie’s was up for sale, it’s always possible that Sonny could buy the place and gift it to Phyllis, so she would have an additional income & place to live (I believe Julian lived there when he ran the place, so there must be apartments in the building). And Kristina is apparently running the bar now, so it’s always good for Sonny to find a way to keep his kids gainfully employed, of course.
Can definitely see Sonny (or Nina) buying Charlie’s for Phyllis. However, Ava should just give it to Felicia in return for Julian blowing up The Floating Rib.
Love the passionate comments. I thought Nina held her ground against Carly who I can’t stand. Comparing the two women, at least Nina has reasonable, if not the best, excuses for some of her questionable actions. Carly none. She is just a selfish, self serving b**ch and has always been that way since she came to Port Charles. Maybe she should go to Nixon Falls for a complete do-over. Agree with other comments that GH has made a big mistake by making Sonny, Jason and Carly “likeable” and the focus when you look at what they do as a living everyday. How many lives have they ruined. And I really liked the Nixon Falls time out from regular Port Charles. Especially “Mike,” Lenny and Phylis, some of the very few characters I wouldn’t mind having a cup of tea or beer with.
I want more this scene was okay. I want Carly to make her life hell. What she did was wrong. Carly should delivers the final blow. All of the players needs to express there feelings on what happened during the Time Sonny was away. I am for team Carly and Sonny they are the best power couple on the show. They are Turning this into a love triangle. The ending better turn out to be the one that the fans wants. Sonny and Carly ❤️.
Team Nina
I knew Nina would stand up to Carly. All Carly wants to do is yell and scream, she isn’t right all the time. I hope Jason goes to Britt and Sonny to Nina.Carly deserves to be alone, even Jax don’t want her.
Nina was absolutely wrong—-what she did is unconscionable and seiously twisted.
But, Carly is no innocent babe in the woods. She’s a banshee—and an Amazon Woman, to boot. One fist, and Nina would have gone flying to eternal rest. Whoa!!—-
100 percent right C, Carly is a beast! She scares me! Carly is no angel but currently, she didnt do anything wrong. She thought Sonny was dead and so did her kids. That is dark. Nina has to own this action and be prepared to pay. Then Nina plays the “Nelle” card! Really? [We know Nelle is alive!] I want Jason to get back with Britt. She brought some feelings and emotions out of Stonecold! Peace C!
Hello, my Timmmy—-
To be honest I am a fan of neither character. How anyone, especially Nina could fall in love with Sonny is beyond me. But, that’s the way TPTB want it. Makes no sense—-I’ll take Jax over Sonny —at least, he’s a few steps ahead of Sonny in the “anything” department.
My theory is, Carly and Sonny will not stay together. Once Sonny gets over his bruised pride, he will recall his moments, for lack of a better word, with Nina—a yucky thought, but, it is what it is.
Carly is flighty—I think she’s always had sexual feelings for Jason; dormant, but feelings just the same. She towers over Sonny—the images of those two together give me headaches; so I try not to mentally go there, LOL.
The only coupling that makes sense to me is Jason and Britt. It’s as real as any soap couple can get.
Another stomach-revolting scene is Maxie and Austin. Please wtiters: I beg not to do this to my eyes. It’s insulting.
Later, my friend.
The acting was incredible.
I’m running a couple of episodes behind. Can’t wait but why did it come so soon? I would’ve written differently: I would’ve had Nina and Sonny rekindle their feelings for one another and have Carly walk in on them as they embrace in an intimate way.
Albert Kaba,
The rekindling bit is yet to come, just be patient.
Laura and Cynthia were both awesome! After this initial thought, my second was that the Michelle Stafford’s version of Nina could have NEVER handle this story. The recast was spot on!
I kept thinking the same thing. The depth Cynthia Watros has brought to the role has really made this storyline sellable. Michelle Stafford would’ve drowned in it.
Cynthia Watros rocks! In all things, her acting in these key scenes… deserves a Supporting Actress nomination for next year. And, she teaches yoga, too! She’s so gentle and kind in-person. She plays Nina with perfection. I love her.
Hi Timmm-
Michelle has always been Phyllis —
Even on GH she was like Phyllis.
She will forever be Phyllis ..
Cynthia is golden as Nina-
I’m team Nina–
Carly needs a good arse whipping after
all, all, her fups, some were horrific,
time for her to get knockdown, yup 🙂
I would enjoy seeing that lol ..
Team Carly. But Nina can have Sonny. I want Jarly free of the obligation they feel toward Sonny. They (read: Jason) should finally fight for another so they can be happy again. They were blissful at their wedding. Sonny feels like their child. I know they all love one another, but Jarly are IN love and were finally on the same page.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
