Courtesy/PBS

Fans in the U.S. are excited to finally get to see season three of the hit British primetime soap, Downton Abbey, when it premieres this Sunday January 6th on PBS at 9PMEST/8PMCST!

To get you ready, TV Guide has put together a refresher course of where we left off with the Crawleys, Mr. Bates, Lord Grantham, and more of the characters you love from this smash hit from across the pond!

TVG also previews what is to come in season three including: Matthew and Mary’s pre-marital woes, Downton’s move into the roaring twenties, Lord Grantham’s bad investment, Anne Bates investigation to clear Bates’ name,  how Thomas’ terrible jealousy will rears it ugly head, and the one that we are looking forward to most as Oscar winner Shirley MacLaine premieres as Cora’s American mother Martha Levinson on the season premiere.

But while we might cheer for Martha’s appearance, the Dowager Countess (Dame Maggie Smith) is none too pleased. “These two matriarchs… collide together and to see it on screen with two absolute Hollywood legends is fantastic,”  Rob James-Collier, who plays Thomas told TVGuide.com. “The hairs on the back of your neck stand up, you know?”

So are you ready for “Downton’ season three? Let us know!

downton abbey’s season 3 premiere episode was hyped even around Asian countries. but it was quite the epic failure. what the hell was carson’s reaction when mary walked down the steps wearing that underwhelming wedding gown? lady cora’s mother was the typical rude foreigner who acts above tradition and customs. she goes outta her way to mock them to make her western self feel superior and yet she’s the one who looks completely backward and classless. dumb writing and disappointing acting. they can make her wear all kinds of fur but there’s only 1 diva on downton abbey and it’s maggie smith. the battle of the academy award winners was a major letdown. i’m quitting abbey if there’s no improvement by the episode where sybil gives birth. mythical show merlin has a racial minority guinevere. abbey could have used some racial minority actors. the whole basis of open casting is to give racial minority actors more opportunities bec of the lack of roles.

IT’S OFFICIAL: Downton Abbey The Movie To Go Into Production This Summer

The highly-anticipated and rumored revival of Downton Abbey to the big screen is on!  Production is slated to begin later this summer.

From what we understand, all of the original cast is set to reprise their signature roles in the motion picture, written by series creator Julian Fellowes.

Fellowes will also serve as the executive producer along with other ‘Downton’ notables behind the scenes: Gareth Neame, Liz Trubridge, and Nigel Marchant. Brian Percival is set to direct.  Percival also directed the pilot episode of the critically-acclaimed and beloved period soap opera series.

In a statement, Gareth Neame expressed: “When the television series drew to a close it was our dream to bring the millions of global fans a movie and now, after getting many stars aligned, we are shortly to go into production.  Julian’s script charms, thrills and entertains and in Brian Percival’s hands we aim to deliver everything that one would hope for as Downton comes to the big screen.”

Focus Features chairman, Peter Kujawski, shared: “Since the series ended, fans of Downton have long been waiting for the Crawley family’s next chapter. We’re thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople, led by Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame, in bringing back the world of Downton to the big screen.”

Downton Abbey ran for six seasons on PBS  and received 15 Primetime Emmy awards and 69 nominations.

Actress Joanne Froggatt, who plays maid Anna Bates, took to Twitter with much enthusiasm at the news: “Delighted to announce we’re getting the band back together! #DowntonMovie #DowntonAbbey”
