GH Exec Prod Frank Valentini On Status Of Roger Howarth: "Fans Can Rest Assure He Is Not Off The Show"

After the announcement of the casting news that General Hospital favorite Roger Howarth has nabbed a recurring role on the CW’s hit new series The Flash, many viewers and fans have posted comments on social media, and on this site, that they were concerned what that means for Roger’s role as Franco in Port Charles, and if that meant the Daytime Emmy winner was exiting the canvas?
To dispel any concerns or rumors, General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini, put out this statement on the status of Howarth with the ABC soap opera and his gig on The Flash: ” We are thrilled for Roger and this opportunity. Fans can rest assure he is not off the show, as the timing for this role worked out so that he can shoot during our current “GH” hiatus. ” The show is currently on that hiatus.

With the way they film at GH it gives their actors a chance to do other things.
say what you will, but after being by far the most controversial of the Llanview 3 re-imaginings, Franco is the one who has now become the most vital to the canvas. I actually think he has a role within the fabric of the show, whereas when it comes to Kiki and now Silas, too (I liked him at first), I’m not entirely sure what function they fulfil, if any
Well,GB, if we are to believe that Kiki is Nina’s daughter and not Ava’s, there is an untold story in the works…that’s the reason for Kiki’s presence…the same could be said for Silas. He had no idea he had fathered a daughter in the first place…now, is he yet to be surprised by the fact that Kiki is his child by Nina?
I can understand your frustration since I feel the same way, where it seems that these characters are just there taking up useless space. I do hope that we will see some action soon.
Kiki seems to be chugging along at a faster pace lately…I really like her, so I hope this character will not disappoint.

I really do have to give props to the scenes… with :
when Kiki went to Silas for help… when Ava was, it seemed going to lose her baby…
Maura West is the bomb! every one around her knows it. God… and please excuse that.. but Gosh… isn’t she all that… the surround of Morgan, Kiki, and even Silas was touching, endearing, and familial

when Ava told Silas… you have no idea.. how much I loved you… Silas realized that… so now.. the bond they share with Kiki… is that much more
kudos for GH to go their…. as it further cements Silas… as it seems he’s DOA with Sam… as it’s with Patrick or whatever, Sam and Jason do
I’m still not smitten with Kiki… I find her character so lacking…. with Michael… and the ever busybody she brings to Port Charles… that with Michael lack steam and lackluster….Yikes… I run when these two are on
but… I was taken with ME’ Silas when the three from OLTL came…. now.. I’m not so sure.. who he’d be paired with…. it seems like he’s written in to a corner now…
Franco : he still has no fire… to waste OUR time.. with his game on about Carly and Sonny… does not excite

i get that they’re teasing that and that may very well be the outcome (poor Kiki, she changes her parentage more often than others do their underwear), but once the reveal and the fall-out are played out, we’ll be back to Kiki being the daughter of a schemer torn between her mum and her love for golden boy. we’ve had that.

‘Tis I again, Patrick. I also think that Michael and Kiki are dull as a couple…I wonder what they’re like in real life….I would hope they’re more upbeat, for lack of a better word. I’ve said this before; Michael is so old for his age. Sadly, Kiki was better off with Morgan. I know she has it in her to excel in her role…I really think this character’s association with puppy-eyed Michael drags her down…down..down.
Maura? There’s no question as to her grandeur as an actress. As far as I’m concerned, she, Michelle and Roger are the leaders of the pack that makes GH.

With all the twists and turns of unexpected events constantly going down…anything is possible, at this point.
He was on Californication last year and didn’t leave GH.
So happy to hear that Roger isn’t leaving the role of Franco for now. I glad that he can film the Flash while GH is on hiatus. If an opportunity ever did a arise for another role for Roger in primetime or in movies and he had to leave GH to presume that opportunity, I would be sad to see him leave but thrilled that he had a chance to do other projects.
RH was superb today. We (I) want Franco and Nina to get rid of their ill-fitting significant others and move into a brownstone together and scheme and plot to their hearts content, w/Mama Madeline dropping by on occasion. Can you imagine? When MS joinied GH I immediately thought of those 2 together. They are the same. I’ve noticed many who don’t like either character much are cheering for them to be together. That says a lot.
Roger Howarth’s scenes with Michelle Stafford’s scenes w/Donna Mills (who’s on FIRE!) today were sensational. They sizzled. Nina’s whisper in Franco’s ear and him cocking his head like she was going in for a kiss (and he seemed to oblige) & Mama Maddy snubbing him-awesome. All 3 pros in those scenes.
RH has worked in prime time and daytime before simultaneously. Love that GH actually has a schedule that ALLOWS their actors to do these things. It can only help ratings! Win/win

@Laurie…I haven’t seen today’s show yet but the way you described Franco cocking his head like she was going in for a kiss…it’s just those subtle little things he does that I love. It’s a glance, an aside, a sneer…just little nuances that make him so fun to watch.

Oh, yeah, Laurie. Nina and Franco !!!! …..that scene you describe was just rich….chock full of sexiness…Isn’t she the tease!? It looked to me as if Nina was giving Franco an offering….I could almost feel their mingling breaths…hear the beating of their hearts…I was absolutely captivated….enraptured….WOW…I was transported to nethernetherland.

So FV has no problem working with his favorites from OLTL like RHo but won’t work with Kimberly McCullough/Robin a GH VET who has said she would do both GH and direct if they work with her schedule. Seems FV has no problem working with RHo schedule and others. He even made a deal that Billy Miller and Michele Stafford couldn’t refuse. ALSO, FV had AS a DOOL actress direct . Yet he won’t do same for Kimberly McCullough. RHo isn’t GH history nor are the others and Kimberly is. I smell a skunk and that stinks.
They have worked with KMC and her schedule, that’s how she’s been able to make the appearances she’s made over the past year. FV has made it clear publicly on numerous occasions and KMC has as well, that she has an open door to come back to GH when it works out for her.
If you wanna know why she’s not back on the show full-time, I would take that up with her, not blame the people at GH, who have bent over backwards to accommodate her directing schedule and other projects.
Cathy – KM chose to leave. Period. She grew up on the show & wanted to try new things – as all adults do. Directing is what she wanted, so she left to do that. She comes back to help story. If she wanted to be here, she’d be here. Frank & Ron are not hurting her career or keeping her from her dreams.
Howarth is the best actor on daytime.
Glad RH is staying: Wedding Day Prediction! Bobbi and Lucas were talking about Lucas becoming a doctor at GH…Lucas is reluctant…Lucas attends the wedding of sister Carly to Franco…someone gets shot, knifed or hurt in some way…Lucas medical knowledge kicks in and he saves that persons life…Lucas is a hero, and decides to become a doctor after all!!!
Well, I definitely saw the doctor thing happening, but not at the wedding. Nice call!
With the wedding coming up, and the sudden mention of Lucas’s medical training, it sounded like a hint that something definately was going to happen and have Lucas there to save the day!!!

I hope he does start to practice medicine, if it will keep him in the loop. It’s time Lucas be given a mature, significant role.

Franco is working for me because the character is developing some layers to him– if they don’t paint him in a corner by making him another “villain” on this show– he has the potential of being the next anti hero– much like Luke was.
But I would prefer to find out Heather was lying and Franco is still a Quarterrmaine after all and still is Jason’s brother. Now that we have a nuJason– being played by Billy Miller it would be a shame not to have these two strong actors characters connected again. And since they had similar brain tumors that possibility still exists that they are brothers– or is that just wishful thinking on my part?
I always wanted RH to play a Quartimaine…maybe we’ll get our wish and it’ll happen!!!
People seem to forget he was a donor match for Danny’s bone marrow transplant which would indicate to me that Franco was indeed a Quartermaine (but because of his brain tumor he couldn’t donate). The real twist would be if he was indeed Heather’s son, but with Alan or Edward being Franco’s father. Don’t know how exactly that could be explained but if Franco could be retconned into being Scott Baldwin’s son, then anything is possible (much as most matters on soaps typically are).
RC…i said a long time ago Franco couldve been Alans son… Heather was in love with another doctor(off camera) and secretly had an affair with him(because she was involved with Scott at the time) whom Heathers mother never approved of…that doctor decided to get Heather pregnant so her mother would agree to them getting married but because he couldnt have children of his own he stole a sperm sample of Dr. Alan and told Heather it was his own…but after Heather became preg the doctor became ill and on his death bed confessed all to Heathers mom…Alice Grant never told Heather the child was Alans and convinced Heather to give the child up for adoption which they kept hidden from all of PC…Heather learns the truth about the babys real father after she find her late mothers diary…why she wouldnt admit he was really Alans instead of saying he is Scotts is be beyond me when Franco could get his hands on some of the Quartimaine loot…a little tricky storywise but it could work…oh, well!!!
I love Roger Howarth! I would be heartbroken if we lost him from GH so I feel somewhat relieved by Frank’s statement. There have been rumblings that he will be killed off during sweeps. Let’s hope not!
LOL…Mr. Valenti would NEVER lie about this. I’m sure if Roger was leaving GH, Frank would come right out and say so, especially since they shoot so far in advance and it wouldn’t ruin any storylines or give anything away. 😉

I love him in everything he does – if he’s evil, GREAT, if he’s not, GREAT, if he’s in between and both – that’s his genius, and I adore him every scene.
His genius? He’s Todd with another name. Acting genius is the ability to create a unique and memorable character. When you see the actor acting, when you see an actor playing a new role but see a previous role he played, it is not genius.
Ty Burrell from Modern Family is in “The Skeleton Twins” and you don’t see Phil Dunphey. Josh Gad was recently in “Wish I was Here” and knocked it out of the park with no hint of his previous characters and in dramatic role. Those are two examples of great actors. That is genius, when you give the audience a character that they believe. People wanting to see a guy do Todd and him delivering that, is not genius.

Well, I agree somewhat. Great acting is exactly what you said. However, great acting is also the ability to take a hated character, make him human, and get people to feel sorry for him. That’s what RH did with Franco. I love RH but absolutely could not imagine ever wanting Franco to stay. Now…. And I hate to admit this out loud…. I like his character. Is he like Todd? Yes. And I am just fine with that.
I was typing my first response so late I forgot the great example of Tony Geary and his Fluke. When I see Fluke on screen, I don’t see Tony Geary acting, I don’t see Luke Spencer, I see a totally different character and I believe it is that imposter Fluke. He looks like Luke obviously, it is the same actor, but he is able to make so many subtle changes, his voice, speech pattern, facial expressions, physical mannerisms, body language etc. That is acting. That is an actor who is doing his job, creating a new character under very challenging circumstances and making his performance believable.

I think, ‘forte’ is a more fitting word than ‘genius’. Then again, acting SHOULD be every actor’s forte, n’est pas? I t does not take much of a genius to create a role, however, it does take the brilliance of a genius to make a character come to life and maintain that which enthralls the viewer. So, you both have a point. JMO.
GH50: I thought about what you wrote here and think you make some valid points. Roger really does seem like he’s always playing Todd Manning–only a lighter version. However, whether he’s Franco or GH’s version of Todd, he’s goofy, funny and not too deep. Gone is the darkly nuanced Todd from OLTL which is interesting considering he is now Franco, a performaning artist sociopathic murderer.
Tony Geary really did morph into another man as Fluke. We the viewers could see that that wasn’t Luke just by his mannerisms and speaking style (which made it all the more distressing that the usually sharp Traci seemed oblivious to her husband’s metamorphosis).
This begs the question–are chameleon like actors more talented than ones who always seem the same? Talented actors like Robert Redford and George Clooney are often underrated because they bring their own natural personas to every role they play.
To me, Roger seems a bit confused on how to approach the role of Franco so her falls back into his natural comedic bit. I do think he is capable of much much more because I have seen him do it.
In any case, not sure if I believe Frank’s assertion that Roger isn’t going any where.
I’m a bit late to this comment but in case anyone stumbles upon it….I’ve been saying for months that Franco is Todd…I really do think that was done purposely to get around the legalities of not being able to continue the Todd character.
They started off with Todd and Carly…then proceeded with Franco and Carly…
They paired Kiki with Franco…even though they changed the story so that he wouldn’t be her father…they still kept them somewhat tied…as in Todd and Starr…
Franco is lost; Todd was lost
Franco is volatile; Todd was volatile
Franco is sarcastic; Todd was sarcastic….
Franco’s out for revenge; Todd was always out for revenge…
I don’t think Roger’s playing Franco like Todd because he doesn’t have the ability to stretch his range or give Franco a new persona…he’s acting the dialogue, the emotions and the plots as their written…which are in essence…for Todd. It was transparent from the beginning…
I don’t think he was meant to play James Franco’s Franco…they changed him from the minute they blamed everything on his tumor. And then…Todd was back…only by a different name.
Love Roger & liked Franco when i thought they changed him but now he needs to go. Carly cheated on him Micheal hasnt done a thing to him Franco already got him raped now hes going to ruin Micheals life to get back at Carly,all he is is an evil coward. Do what he wants to Carly leave her kid alone
I don’t know…it may hurt Michael in the immediate but at the same time I want justice for AJ. I think it’s about time Michael turns away from Sonny. Knowing how Sonny stole Michael away from AJ, tortured AJ when he tried to get Michael back years ago, poisoned Michael against him when he was younger…then finally murdered AJ and had sex at his crypt… I’d say, yeah, let Michael know. It’s sickening to see his loyalty to Sonny knowing all he’d done to AJ. I want Michael to know the truth!

Great great news. Roger is integral to the show now. Todd was the best but Franco is starting to hit his stride too. Thanks as always to Frank V. for listening to the fans and addressing the chatter. All EPs should learn from him.

i noticed during gh running credits that john york who plays mac is no longer listed, at first i thought it was an error but its been two weeks in a row and his name is no longer in the credits that air every friday after the show is over. GH always list the contract players no matter what in order of seniority he was second after tony geary, yet for the past two weeks his name has been excluded so how bout an update on that?
I enjoy Franco’s humor even sometimes it’s off the walls but you really have to know his character to really appreciate it. Glad Roger isn’t going anywhere:)

Mary, I myself have no problems with your posts…once in awhile, i have vision problems of my own and your caps make it easy to read…i once wrote in caps a long time ago and got blasted for it on a different site i once belong to before this one so dont let it upset you…i also have other medical problems that have sometimes intefered with my thinking and writing skills but i dont let it stop me no matter if i get complaints and i have had some very harsh ones(ive probably been attacked the most and also had to explain my medical problems too…so you are not alone…i may not have responded to you before but me and others enjoy reading your posts so dont stop because of any negativity you recieve(like ive said, i got a lot of that myself…probably the worse of anbody here…and im still posting)…dont posting…your opinion matters to most of us whether we agree or disagree and it doesnt matter to many of us that its in caps…wish you well…jimh!!!

I love Roger Howarth but I hate his character so I am crossing my fingers for his primetime gig to take off!
So glad to hear that the character Franco is not leaving…He is a breath of fresh..all be it unbalanced air. His acting skills..dramatic and comedic are excellant! Love him or hate him..he should stay on GH..

Many things are coming up roses for Jonathan Bennett! On the heels of the news that he is set to debut this month in the role of Joe Fitzpatrick on General Hospital, who is rumored to be a new love interest for Lucas Jones (Van Hansis), comes the news that Bennett’s reality series, Finding Mr. Christmas has received 3 nomination for the Critics Choice Real TV Awards.
Bennett’s Hallmark Channel series finds itself in tough competition alongside fellow nominees: RuPaul’s Drag Race (MTV), Squid Game: The Challenge (Netflix), Survivor 50 (CBS), Top Chef (Bravo) and The Traitors (Peacock). In addition, Jonathan himself is nominated for Best Show Host and the series participants as the Best Ensemble Cast in an Unscripted Series.
The Critics Choice Association (CCA) revealed the nominees for the eighth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards on Thursday, which recognize excellence in nonfiction, unscripted and reality programming across broadcast, cable and streaming platforms. In the series, Bennett, the host and co-creator spends eight weeks guiding 10 aspiring actors through a series of “festive face-offs” and acting challenges alongside actors like soap opera notables, Hunter King (ex-Summer, Y&R) and Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS). Bennett is very familiar to daytime fans having started his career as JR Chandler on All My Children in 2000-2001, before landing the part of Aaron Samuels in the motion picture, Mean Girls in 2004 starring Lindsay Lohan, which would become his breakout performance.

‘General Hospital’s’ Kelly Thiebaud on Britt and Cassius Sibling Drama, But Who Will Ultimately Blow His Cover?
On the April 30 episode of General Hospital, Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) had some choice words and warning for her brother Cassius Faison (Ryan Paevey) who has been masquerading as his twin, the very dead, Nathan West.
As the story has unfolded, viewers learned that Britt knew all along that when “Nathan” showed up in Port Charles seemingly resurrected with a missing 7 years of his life unexplained, that Cassius was taking his place.
Now in developments on today’s GH, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) is figuring out that this guy pretending to be Nathan is someone else, and Cassius learns from Britt, that Joss is not just a ditzy sorority girl as he claimed, but a WSB agent! The moment stuns Cassius. Are the walls about to close in on him and his charade?

Daytime Emmy winner, Kelly Thiebaud spoke to Soap Opera Digest, about the story point and getting the opportunity this time back at GH to work with Ryan Paevey, when she hadn’t had the chance to before.
BROTHERLY LOVE?
Thiebaud expressed on sharing scenes with Ryan Paevey, “It’s just been so wonderful to have him back and to actually work with him! When he first came onto the show (as Nathan at the end of 2013) I was kind of heading out — it was right towards the end of my contract, so we didn’t actually work together a ton. It’s been really refreshing and so much fun to really spend time together and get to know each other and work together. I think we have really great on-camera chemistry and banter with each other. I really enjoy working with him.”
With the stakes at an all-time, Thiebaud explained how she views her on-screen alter-ego’s involvement with her more hot-to-temper sibling and why Britt revealed the truth about Josslyn to him. “People finding out about Cassius would expose what she’s involved in and what she agreed to do,” explains Kelly “And now Josslyn is digging around, and she’s connected to Carly (Laura Wright) to Jason (Steve Burton) and that whole dynamic! It’s messy!”
BRITT’S MURKY FUTURE
Britt has currently also reached her breaking point with Jason being carted away by the WSB, Rocco (Finn Carr), the child she gave birth to, shooting Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) to protect her and Jason, Marco (Adrian Anchondo) being killed after trying to help her, and Cullum holding over her head getting her Huntington’s disease medication to control her symptoms, while blackmailing her into finishing the research on her father, Cesar Faison’s, final project. Thiebaud summed it up best for Britt right now, sharing, “It’s been a really tough time for her.”

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Michael Reveals His Plan to Set Up Chase and Willow to Have an Affair
After the Wednesday, April 29 episode of General Hospital, it’s clear outside interference and other circumstances are set to blow Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) marriage sky high, as Michael (Rory Gibson) reveals his plans to entrap Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) and use her relationship with Chase to do it!
In story, Michael dropped by unexpectedly to Carly’s (Laura Wright). A plotting Michael reveals his plan to nudge Willow and Chase into having an affair. Michael hopes it would create both a political and personal scandal, where Willow would lose her seat in congress. In the scenario, she would be having an affair with her ex-husband, while taking care of her supposed disabled husband, Drew (Cameron Mathison), who cannot speak and is confined to a wheelchair, which in turn will look horrible for Willow’s character.
Carly asked does he really want to destroy his cousin, Brook Lynn’s life in the process? Michael goes in on Chase’s holier than thou attitude, and says he is going to set-up the circumstances that would lead Chase and Willow to betray their spouses, and hit the sheets together. Michael swears to Carly what the two of them do is up to them, but he’s going to go on the offense with this.
MICHAEL HAS BACK-UP
Later, Jacinda (Paige Herschell) is talking with Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) at Crimson and how much she dislikes Willow because of what she has done to Michael. Just then, Michael shows up and tells Jacinda privately, he’s figured out a way to fight Willow. Looks like Jacinda might work with Michael to bring down Willow and use Chase as the person to do it!
At the hospital, Lucas (Van Hansis) tells Josslyn (Eden McCoy) that Carly is cheating on Jack, but he doesn’t know with who. Josslyn suddenly flashes back to the moment she found her mother harboring a fugitive, Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart), in her attic, and as figured out that her mother is sleeping with him. She heads out.

BRENNAN IS ABOUT TO LEARN ABOUT CARLY
Next thing you know, Josslyn has showed up inside Jack’s (Chris McKenna) hotel room at the Metro Court and when he enters his room, he is shocked to find her there. He lays into her for not keeping his distance and that Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) will have no problem killing her if he knows she’s WSB. Josslyn fires back that he is only concerned about that because his relationship with her mother depends on her being safe. But then, she lays the boom, and tells Jack, Well, you’re too late. You already lost her.”
LULU GETS A GLIMPSE OF CASSIUS’ TEMPER
In addition, Lulu (Alexa Havins) sees a different side of “Nathan.” Since she is unaware that the man before her is his twin, Cassius Fasion (Ryan Paevey), he tells her that Rocco (Finn Carr) blabbed that he shot Cullum to Britt (Kelly Thiebaud), and now he thinks they should send him away to stop him from talking to everyone else. This concerns Lulu, who rails at Nathan for telling her what to do with her son and that she isn’t going to abandon him. With “Nathan’s” outburst at her on the matter, will she finally get a clue this is not the man she thinks it is?
