GENERAL HOSPITAL: Julian’s Life Implodes As Bomb Explodes

Friday’s episode of General Hospital left viewers with an explosive ending, literally, that left fans on the edge of their seats of just what will be the ramifications for those inside and outside the Floating Rib, and on the docks of Port Charles.

At the epicenter of the story is William deVry (Julian Jerome), who delivered a top-notch and emotional heart-tugging performance within the hour installment of the ABC daytime drama series.

As it went down, Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) wants Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) dead and has Julian doing his bidding; that includes Julian walking around with a bomb in a backpack. Renault meets Julian on the pier, and Julian lets the drug lord know that he will not target a restaurant full of people, since Jason is currently at the Floating Rib, playing pool with his son.  Cyrus tells Julian not to worry that the bomb will not be an issue until Jason is alone. He then hands Julian a burner phone to call him when the job is done.

As the two are talking, a drunken Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) stumbles upon the conversation, and that sets up what would have very well been the final scenes of the former couple known as “Julexis”.  When Alexis and Julian begin to talk, Julian shows his concern for her drinking, which she does not want to hear about.  Then in a key moment, Julian apologizes to Alexis for all the pain he has caused her.  It was in this line of dialogue, “Alexis, you have been such a positive light in my dark life” that viewers and possibly Alexis, felt the weight of what Julian was trying to convey, as he feared his life could be coming to an end, or feeling racked with guilt for the things he finds himself unable to extricate himself from.  Alexis wonders why he sounds like he’s saying goodbye to her.

Later, Julian shows up with the bomb at the Floating Rib as he flips through his phone and pictures of his children and loved ones knowing he must do what Renault has ordered to keep everyone safe.  He leaves the backpack with the bomb in it under a table.

At the Floating Rib, we have a major set up that could also lead to dire consequences.  Lulu (Emme Rylan) has summoned Dustin (Mark Lawson) to meet her at the bar to discuss the status of their relationship, now that Dante (Dominic Zamprigna) is back in town.  Dustin pulls out a ring and gets down on one knee to propose, just as Dante is outside the bar coming to talk to Lulu.

Meanwhile, Dev (Ashton Arbab) discovers the backpack and goes to tell the bartender about it.  In addition, Jason, Danny, Cameron (William Burton), and Liz (Rebecca Herbst) and Franco (Roger Howarth) are also there.

At  the end of the episode, Julian is back on the docks and pulls out the burner phone Cyrus gave him.  Julian says, “You better pick up”, but unknowingly when he hits Cyrus’ number, he sets off the bomb to explode in the bar.  Fade to black.

So, what will be the upshot of the bomb explosion?  Will Julian, in the midst of the turmoil, make it look like he perished in the explosion to facilitate William deVry’s exit?  Will something happen to Lulu, since we know Emme Rylan has exited the show as well?  Will everyone be saved?  Share your thoughts and theories and what you thought of Will’s performance via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: As Finn’s Life is on the Line, A Heartbroken Anna Apologizes to Chase “I’m So Sorry”

Monday’s episode of General Hospital brought with it another round of twins Anna and Alex Devane (Finola Hughes) going at each other with guns a-blazing, as Alex has really taken to the dark side including; duping her sister and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) and now holding a pregnant Maxie (Kirsten Storms) hostage.

Meanwhile back at General Hospital, Finn’s (Michael Easton) condition takes a nose-dive just as he was trying to deliver key information to Peter (Wes Ramsey) about Alex and Anna  … and that Anna wanted it to be true that she was his birth-mother, not Alex.  As Portia (Brook Kerr) is trying to keep Finn alive, who should enter? His brother, the cop, Chase (Josh Swickard), who is beside himself seeing his big brother like this.

Valentin who is also recovering at the hospital wants to go after Alex; not knowing what is about to happen.  Robert (Tristan Rogers) learns that Finn is being rushed into surgery and that his condition and survival is based on his heart.

On the Haunted Star, Anna and Alex exchange gunfire until Alex is shot, but she is not dead.  Later, on the deck of the yacht, a badly-wounded Alex reappears. She tells Anna they both knew one of them would have to die someday, and shares a cryptic, yet meaningful message that she thought Anna would go back for Peter when he was a child and raise him, but she didn’t, and she has to live with that.  As Anna goes to see if Maxie is alright, Alex rolls herself off the deck into the water.  Anna comes back with Maxie and believes her sister must be dead.

Elsewhere, an overcome Chase heads to the hospital chapel and prays for his brother as he breaks down in tears.  Robert calls Jackie (Kim Delaney) to fill her in on Finn, and she in turn calls his father, Gregory (the incoming Gregory Harrison to the role).  After Anna and Maxie arrive safe and sound at the hospital, Peter runs to Maxie, while a distraught Anna walks by Valentin and Robert.

Next, in the final scene of the episode, Anna joins Chase in the chapel.  She is grief-stricken, guilt-ridden and heartbroken that because of her and her sister, Finn’s life is on the line as she tells Chase, “I’m so sorry.”   They join hands to find the strength to get through this.  It was in these moments that both Finola Hughes and Josh Swickard brought the emotional heart to the story.

So, what did you think of the final scene featuring Finola and Josh?  Do you think Alex will return?  Comment below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Alex Is ‘Wicked’ To Anna; Franco Receives Devastating Diagnosis

Friday’s episode of General Hospital brought with it a clever play on the Broadway smash hit musical, Wicked, but no there was no singing, instead we had the always brilliant Finola Hughes, playing the good witch and the bad witch, in the form of portraying twin sisters, Anna and Alex as Halloween night comes to Port Charles.

In story, Anna, who is dressed for Halloween in white as a good witch, reads the report in front of Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) that proves that Faison did not have the marker for RA (rheumatoid arthritis) which then proves that since she did not have it, nor Faison, that Alex is the biological mother of Peter August (Wes Ramsey).

All this time, as Anna says, she blamed herself for being with Faison only to find out that was a complete lie.  Anna becomes so incensed by all of Alex’s machinations that she smashes a glass just as the power goes out.  Valentin tells Anna he was also used by her sister where Peter was concerned.  Anna questions whether she should warn Peter, that Alex might be after him and his unborn child with Maxie (Kirsten Storms).  Valentin is convinced they need to get rid of Alex, before she does something to them.

Anna does decide Peter should show know the truth, as Valentin leaves to find out Alex’s whereabouts.  When the lights come back on at Anna’s, she is clubbed over the head by Alex who is dressed in black as a bad witch. Later, when kids come to trick-or-treat at Anna’s, she has switched places with her sister offering the kid’s candy after stashing Anna away in the basement and most-likely locking her in there.

Peter is in a whole heap of trouble as he keeps getting creepy phone calls from Helena saying they have “unfinished business”.  We later see a trap is being set by Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) and Sam (Kelly Monaco) in a secret location.  Sam is using a voice-alternating ‘Pro Tools’ like audio software program to simulate Helena’s voice to spook Peter and to set him up!

Back at the hospital, Terry (Cassandra James) delivers terrible news to Franco (Roger Howarth). His test results show he has a malignant tumor again on the front lobe of his brain, and that it is inoperable and cannot be removed through surgery.  She tells him she wants to run more tests to see what options they have.

When she asks Franco if he has developed any symptoms, he flashes back to the night at Wyndemere when Ava’s (Maura West) painting was revealed and ruined with C077x spray-painted across it and a haunting dream he had, but denies to Terry that he has had any problems as of now.  When she tells him they need to tell Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), Franco says he does not want to tell her, or the boys, about this.  When Liz enters the room, Terry and Franco keep mum as to his condition, for now.

Roger Howarth showed once again why he can always be counted on to bring poignant moments to his scenes as Franco.  Be on the lookout for what happens with this story.  In a November sweeps preview in the current issue of Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now, GH head writers, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor teased about the medical crisis that it “may hold the key to unlocking one of the biggest mysteries in Port Charles – something that has been in the works for years.”

So, what did you think will happen next in the Anna/Alex saga?  What do you think will ultimately happen to Franco? Will he become the ‘killer’ Franco again? What could be the mystery the co-head writers are referring to? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
