GH’s Hayley Erin Opens Up On Robert Palmer Watkins Departure: "I Am Devastated"

Last night at the Television Academy, the stars of your favorite soaps stepped out for a cocktail reception celebrating the Daytime TV community and Emmy Awards Season.

The gathering was put together by the Daytime Programming Peer Group committee, and its governors, Eva Basler and Steve Kent.

On-Air On-Soaps caught up with General Hospital actress, Hayley Erin (Kiki Jerome), who as fans of the ABC daytime drama series found themselves, is still reeling from the news of the upcoming exit of her current co-star, Robert Palmer Watkins (Dillon Quartermaine). GH let go of the popular young star in a surprising move.

While on the red carpet, Hayley shared: her shock at learning of Watkins’ GH fate, who could potentially be Kiki’s new love interest, what it has been like playing those recent emotional mother/daughter scenes with Maura West (Ava Jerome), and more.

What was your reaction to learning the news that Robert Palmer Watkins was let go from GH?

HAYLEY:  I can’t talk … I get all choked up.  It’s not fun for any of us.  I love us together on and off camera.  Rob is one of my closest friends.  I cannot claim to know what is going on, but he will be missed.  Rob called me up and told me when he was let go, and I didn’t believe him.  I couldn’t believe it.  I didn’t want to believe it.

One would imagine what is tough about this for you and Rob is that you both worked very hard to develop an on-screen relationship for Kiki and Dillon, and bring that to life, and soon that will not be continuing on.

HAYLEY:   I didn’t want to play the victim in all of this.  It’s Rob’s career, his life, and livelihood, but I am devastated.  We really had a good thing going.  I hope that the story is going to come together in a way for his exit that will give not only the fans, but Rob and me some closure.  I really thought when Kiki caught that bouquet she was going somewhere with that.

Your recent scenes with your on-screen mother, Maura West, while she was in the hospital recovering from being badly burned were complex and well-done.  How is it to play the love/hate relationship that Kiki has with Ava?

HAYLEY:   I have a really close relationship with my own mother, and I love Maura West to death.  So, seeing my mother in that hospital bed, and the visual of that was so powerful to me.  I have grown to love Maura in a way that is real in my life; not only on-screen.  I think that is what has made the relationship between Kiki and Ava so strong on-screen in that they can hate each other, but they really love each other, and when it’s a life or death situation the love is always going to win.

Many fans are predicting with Dillon’s impending exit that Kiki will next enter into a triangle for the love of Michael (Chad Duell), and vie for his affections against Nelle (Chloe Lanier).  Thoughts?

HAYLEY:   All over Twitter I am seeing that the fans think there will be a Nelle/Michael/Kiki triangle.  I would be all for that.  They are also predicting an Ava/Griffin/Kiki triangle. That would be interesting to put Ava and Kiki through that again over another man.

What do you think of Matt Cohen (Matt Cohen) as a potential romantic scene partner? Not a bad day at the office for you.  (Laughs)

HAYLEY:  When looking at Matt Cohen it is like looking at the eclipse … let’s be honest. (Laughs)  It burns.  He is nice to look at, and also the nicest person, ever!

What should GH viewers be on the lookout for with Kiki in the next few weeks?

HAYLEY:  In the next few weeks, she has a lot of fun stuff coming up with Franco (Roger Howarth), after she walked in on him destroying his paintings.  She will be involved in some art world integration that the viewers will get to see.  It’s fun for me getting to do interesting and new things.  When Kiki first came on the show, she was heavily involved in Ava’s art and crime. It’s fun to get to do the things that Kristen Alderson (Ex-Kiki) got to do that are a part of Kiki’s history, and revisit it.

What do you want to say to the Killon fans who are upset, and that have rooted for the couple?

HAYLEY:  I love you, and I am right there with you.

So, what did you think of the thoughts shared by Hayley on losing her on-screen scene partner, Robert Palmer Watkins?

Who would you like to see Kiki romantically involved with next if it can’t be Dillon?

GH is making some really BIG mistakes… first with firing Rebecca Budig (Hayden) and now Robert Palmer Watkins (Dillon). Hayden/Finn and Kiki/Dillon had real chemistry and sso much story potential. I’ve watched soaps since 1981, and I saw the writing on the wall when they re-hired Steve Burton. To afford his salary, they had to cut two (maybe more?) contract players. If you’ll recall, they also never put Genie Francis back on contract until Tony Geary left because they both have hefty salaries. Nothing against Steve Burton, but he chose to leave GH and Billy Miller has made Jason his own, and I’m fine with that. I’m sorry, but rehiring Steve at the expense of actors/characters we love is wrong and a bad move with GH’s ratings going down! Listen to the fans more!

I couldn’t agree with you more!!!!!!!!!! 🙁 Soooo sad to see Hayden and now Dillon go!

I absolutely have to agree 100% with what Joel has said. I feel TPTB are making such a huge mistake. The fans love Palmer Watkins. He has worked so hard to make Dillon his own. I love Billy Miller as Jason, and have nothing against Steve Burton, But I agree with Joel, he left to go to Y&R. I love Lucas,Brad, and Felix.
THEY ARE YOUNG TALENTED ACTORS, YET WHERE ARE THEY?
I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL FAN OF GH FOR MANY YEARS, BUT ALL THIS IS NOT GOING TO SIT WELL WITH THE MANY LOYAL VIEWERS. I HOPE ROBERT AND REBECCA COME BACK.

Celia
Celia

Absolutely, michael. It seems that TPTB want to sink themselves willingly.
Furthermore, the young actors they do have are strewn haphazardly, hither and yon; stuck in stupid, nonsensical storylines just because. Why????? Such as Nelle, Valerie, Kristina.
I do accept the fact that Kristina is somewhat confused about her sexuality—perhaps still in the experimental stage? But, to pair her with Parker, a much older woman, is lascivious to me. I would feel the same way if it were a ‘straight’ relationship.
Parker looks like a perv to me,…..disgusto!…. taking advantage of a much younger, inexperienced woman. There is no softness there, no sweetness.
Perhaps the omnipotent writers should explore a romance between Kristina and Valerie—they seem to connect—friends first! That works for me.
And, speaking of Nelle….I was sooo taken aback yesterday, when Bobbie showed Carly a clip or a facsimile of Nelle, supposedly having murdered someone?
Wow!!!! Okaaay….So, now Carly cannot have that, can she? No way will she allow her innocent little boy, Mickey associate with such a girl.
Hello!!!!! Carly has exposed her children to murderers since the day they were born. Such an all-around pristine woman with an impeccable past married to her mini-me Sonny, her “sainted” and “redeemed”, loving mate who is the worst of the worst. Michael’s stepfather. How grand!!!! Sigh!!
First, Bobbie calls Nelle a slut ( paraphrasing), or whatever. DOUBLE WOW!!!!!
Wasn’t Bobbie a ‘fille de joie….de nuit”?? She was Mary Hill who hung out in “Cherry Hill Park”….LOL. ( Billy Joe Royal)…..perfect fit!!!!! Ha!!

Shay
Shay

Excellent points, CeeCeeGirl! Especially the part about Bobbie…yep, she was a “fille de joie de nuit,” as she so proudly chose to remind Lucy—and all of us—not much more than a year ago when she bragged of her well-honed boudoir skills as they fought over Port Charles’ version of the “Pillsbury Doughboy,” Scotty. Hence for her to be morally judging any other femme is really a bit rich….believe you me, Nurse Spencer did more than her share of dirty deeds both in and out of the sack in her GH heyday! She’s no room to be disparaging anybody on that account…perhaps she and Alexis can form their own local chapter of the “Over The Hill Hypocrites Club” since they both are prone to the “pot calling the kettle black” syndrome!

Perfectly said and you are so right on…. Makes me angry that he is hurting so many people and their jobs by coming back. I cannot like him if for no other reason than that.. Hope they realize their mistake….but by then he will have already destroyed several peoples jobs and their lives have been turned up side down.

Timmm
Timmm

No one needs to lose a job but GH is stronger with Steve Burton versus Robert Palmer or Rebecca Budig!

Timmm
Timmm

Losing Robert and Hayden are not crushing the show. Two bit players. Everyone thinks Steve is crippling the show. He is not. GH needed house cleaning regardless. AND, if GH needed money to pay Burton, cut Nina, the character is and always has been horrible!

Patrick
Patrick

Why have Shelley and Frank, stopped, writing for Nina and Valentin + Charlotte?

are they putting all their eggs in one basket for the Sonny and Carly Show and NOW Steve Burton ?

I coulda swore I saw a blip on Yahoo… and GH is going with the twin story. blah bore blech.

I kinda have this feeling Frank and Shelley are snowballing Michelle Stafford’ Nina.

ALL this wishy washy will she or wont she… what’s so difficult ? this is a soap she is an actress… and character movement seems like she could have made that decision so long ago. Nina been in a coma 1/2 her life. and NOW all her moral standards and ethics stall her ?

the last scene, at the metro court, which seemed like it already happened eon ago… with Valentin spelling it all out on that writing tablet all of Nina every whim and wish laid out.. just for the taking. as Valentin walks out and more or less says he will not beg. this just begs the question… Nina acts so dim witted and i’m just near plain over it… had it not been for that picture in my mind of the tnree of them :

Valentin / Charlotte / Nina just one of the best cohesive tight knit new found familial… and GH does not capitalize.

once again I saw some of Nina past doltish body language that just made me go ugh… stop

I know I can’t go to her Y&R character to give her backbone any more. but this Nina, like Franco… PLUS FINN… has just run it’s course.

ps: I’d take Dillon and Hayden any day of the week.. if this is what it takes to get TPTB and Shelley and Frank reason enough to LISTEN. and just balance this show out…

as far as Steve Burton goes.. like any actor… once all the questions and character REEL. he’s going to be another actor who will not generate any thing more that what he once was.

this just speaks to how bad the writing and their evolution is. spiral and no where.

Celia
Celia

You may be right, T….Steve has a key role to play, but I don’t think he’s here to stay. He is returning to put some closure to something….don’t know what, though. LOL. The Jason Quartermaine/Morgan saga? Will the real Jason Quartermaine please stand up??????
I will stick to my guns, as wrong as it may turn out to be, that Steve is the other boy in Franco’s painting. The memory is dormant, but with Steve’s return, Franco’s memory will be jarred?
Nonetheless, I would not dismiss Robert/Dillon and Rebecca/Hayden so easily.
I think what “rates” a show is the character’s popularity and the intricacies of his/her storyline; plus, the personality.
I liked them both….Steve ?…… well, I don’t know his Jason–Stone Cold. From some of the comments, he’s now a has-been, who chose to leave and is back at his convenience.
I can understand why this does not sit well with some viewers.
Yet, I do agree that it sounds pretty far-fetched that all these actors were let go because of Burton’s “Second Coming”. How much money does he want? More importantly: is he worth it??

Lindaaa
Lindaaa

WTH is going on with GH, they are letting characters go that are fan favorites, just to bring back Steve, sheesh!!

Celia
Celia

I have a suspicion, Lindaaa, Steve is on temporarily….that is, Jason/Steve is not a Quartermaine, but Franco’s twin, borne of Heather and Scotty. Just a theory, mind you. LOL.
I can honestly say that the potental mystery intrigues me.
So, from whence did Jason/Billy hail? Did Helena have him all this time and brain-washed certain memories into him to serve her purpose? “Lotta ‘splainin” to do, Lucy….I mean Heather.

I think letting Robert Palmer Watkins go is a blunder. This couple lit up the screen and provided relief from the unrelenting pseudo-drama. Hayley Erin has rapidly grown into a fine, multi-faceted actress and she shines in scenes with Watkins. Pairing her with Michael or Griffin would both have an element of been there, done that. It’s too bad these writers aren’t willing to take a real risk and have an emotionally devastated Kiki question her sexual identity after failed relationships with men and turn to Kristina for comfort, becoming part of a triangle with her and Parker. Oh well…Long Live GH!

Lynda
Lynda

I don’t mind the Cristina and Parker relationship at all. But I would never believe Kiki in a triangle with Parker and Cristina. I also don’t see her with Griffith or Michael . If the writers choose to revisit mother, daughter relationship with same guy than I am most likely done with the soap. I have been watching since 1964. I am looking forward to Steve Burton’s return whoever he turns out to be. Am not happy that his return is what cause Rebecca and Robert to be let go if it’s true because of his pay. I keep trying to give General Hospital a chance, but the writers are making it difficult.

Did ABC ever come out and say in order to rehire Steve we have to make cuts? NO!

I had a bit of a hot flash when i saw Kristina with Valerie…could Valerie turn out to be Bi? Or Gay

Rebecca1
Rebecca1

LOL Ghlover. That was my suggestion to Patrick on the “Parker” character page. I mentioned to him that if Valerie turned out to be bi they’d make a cute couple!

And…WHO is Valerie’s father? Now I’m thinking it might be Aunt Stella’s ex boyfriend!

Patrick
Patrick

that would be just fine with me. I’ve always liked Valerie… another character, like Dillon , they just never write for.

I too never thought that Kiki would go down that road. I say.. whatever it takes to shake up this show.

sonny and carly, any one ?

I thought Valerie & Kristina had a “moment” briefly during the Nurses Ball…seemed to be a teaser of something possibly coming down the story line road even then!

just an excellent post.

“…Hayley Erin has rapidly grown in to a fine, multi-faceted actress ”

i believe with her new job @general hospital… and her relationship with mom Ava we are seeing a more mature womanhood. Alluring is my word for this actress

i for one…loved her from day 1. what a recast. it’s been a blast a marvel and beyond remarkable. ok i’m always full of superlatives.

i truly hope Shelley and Frank STAY AWAY from retread and boredom with having any thing to do with Michael and Nelle. that being said… it’s just sad that the writers do this… because Michael and Nelle need all the propping to keep them afloat. THINK what Maura West continually does for Sonny and Carly.

Hayley Erin has graduated and risen in the ranks. she needs to move on with Kristina… what a great idea. Kiki has proven her worth . altho i think she went a little overboard trying to salvage Franco… ugh REALLY ? i’m now officially over Franco.

PLEASE writers – move with Hayley Erin.

Rebecca1
Rebecca1

I agree, Patrick, regarding Hayley Erin. I loved her from day one, as well. She’s gorgeous and fits the role beautifully. She’s extremely expressive. I DON’T like her relationship with Sonny and Carly considering how they’ve treated Ava and taken Avery away from Ava…just like I don’t like Michael’s relationship with them. And, LOL, I don’t like Sam’s relationship with them, or Jason’s! All of these people have had their loved ones hurt by Sonny and Carly and somehow they remain not only friendly but loyal to them. I mean, if anyone had killed your brother, mother, father would you be friends with them? Ugh. But I digress…

I don’t see Kiki going into a same sex relationship. I’m still hoping for a Robert/Dillon reversal in that they write him back in, but if not, I can see her with Griffin.

Timmm

So everyone is a lesbian now? UGG!

Well, no, not everyone is a lesbian unless you’re counting male lesbians.

Steve

Ugh! Same sex attraction doesn’t work that way. We’d know if Kiki were bi since the character has been front and center for 4 years. Valerie, on the other hand, has a non-defined background, so that could be explained.

Having Kiki get with Kristina would be off-putting since she’s Morgan’s sister, and Kiki was already with Morgan and his brother.

Mister Media

It worked that way with Kristina, who we saw in heterosexual relationships before arriving at her present status.

I am sad to see RPW leave because the Quartermaine Family continues to be decimated, although, we are promised otherwise. Although, I have never been fan of Kiki Jerome (or of either actress who has played her), this is a nice interview with Ms. Erin.

Sandy

I hate to see the Quartermanes loose one more family member. They are the backbone of the show and firing Robert is a huge mistake.. I hate that they are bringing SB back also and causing us to take sides with him and B M. This is just not good for the show…

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD dang IT ! Shelley and Frank ! don’t you dare !

“… All over Twitter I am seeing that the fans think there will be a Nelle/Michael/Kiki triangle. ”

Kiki has been out of the Corinthos’ pie… they are dead

LEAVE Kiki OUT of this. Michael and Nelle… are the definition of BORE. and that’s aimed at Michael… Nelle is not even in the same realm as Kiki. altho… here me out… I believe Nelle has chance. Just not in this orbit. DULLARD

what do you not get ? Shelley and Frank…. you are just as dull as Sonny and Carly.

I hope beyond that Kiki and Griffin are in the cards.

If they do Michael and Kiki AGAIN, along with bringing back Steve Burton, I’ll have more time to catch up on Netflix because I will be through with GH. How many more boring Wonder Bread couples is it going to take for GH to realize they are NOT evolving with the times. There were riskier, more edgy stories in the 80s and 90s than there are now. *yawn* This is why they are firing good actors and letting a major family wither on the vine – a love triangle?!?!

Timmm

EVERY relationship with Michael is a guaranteed FF!

Steve

How did the legacy grandchild of dynamic characters Bobbie Spencer and Alan & Monica Quartermaine turn into such a dull sap?

Chad Duell shined (and won a well deserved Emmy) when he played angry Michael Quartermaine. He even made Sabrina slightly interesting until he reverted to milquetoast Michael Corinthinos. Thank MB for that.

Abby and Sabrina died of boredom. Star showed a bit of promise (as a connection between Quartermaine and Lord offspring was intriguing). Both versions of Kiki fluttered. And there’s nothing there with Nell “Haze”.

The remedy:
Something I don’t recall ever seeing on soaps — an unknown baby switch revealed 25 years later. Michael (CD) and another baby were switched at birth (by the same people who switched Jason Q and his unknown twin after the accident). The real Michael/Q heir was raised elsewhere and comes to PC to claim what’s rightfully his. CD can keep playing Sonny’s son while the real Michael vows to ruin Sonny for AJ’s death.

Celia
Celia

LOL, Patrick…..I will assume Nelle will be front and center. I think the writers needed to boost this character or say bye-bye. So, now she’s a murderess. Wow!! ‘They’ are really going all out. This turn of events is like a bucket of ice water thrown in our collective faces…….no sense. Too sudden.
And her name is actually; Janelle. Really? C’mon….
We are soooo being teased, my friend. As Nelle was ‘caressing’ the sapphires ( beautiful imitation), we caught a steely glint in her eye…great acting.
However, I don’t buy it…..just trying to put doubt in our heads…..not working for me. No suspense.
If this is a ploy to prop Carly ( or Bobbie) as a good person, in comparison……to put her on some celestial pedestal, I will scream.
So, did Nelle get her dead fiance’s money? This story does not entice; not one bit.
Poor Michael…..entangled in Nelle’s web. Black widow much? She kills her lovers for money. Ok.

Celia
Celia

@Shay.
Well, Shaybelle…..that certainly is a very catchy title. Bobbie and Alexis as “business” partners. Sounds lucratine….”filthy” rich. LOL.
I would counteract that with ” The What-not-to-do-Club”, or, “Don’t do what they do Club”.

Shay
Shay

Hmmmm, CeeCeeGirl…Perhaps Bobbie and Alexis should launch their own “entertainment enterprise”….as past-midlife madams with a stable of like-minded cougar-mamas! LOL….Certainly enough expertise there between the two of them in that particular arena to “corner the market!”…Lol. But seriously, their “Do As I Say Not As I Do” shtick has gotten pretty tiresome….In terms of our club name? How about “Wouldn’t Be Caught Dead Doing That?” Sounds about right….

Celia
Celia

Hmmm. What if the fiance is not dead ??? What if he washed up in Marrakech? Wouldn’t that stir up a hornets’ nest…..!!

Celia
Celia

@Shay.
Right, Shaybelle? I really like Bobbie, but since Nelle arrived, I have so much antipathy for her hypocrisy; I want to smack her upside the head to remind her from whence she hails. LOL.
What do they call a bordello these days? House of ill repute? I don’t know if Alexis fits the category, does she? But, Bobbie certaily does.
I could tell you so many Italia, out-of -this -hemisphere hilarious adages my husband’s grandparents are wont to throw around, but I can’t repeat them….besides, the “catch” would be lost in translation. DOUBLE LOL.

Shay
Shay

Hey there, CeeCeeGirl! I’ve never been much of a Bobbie fan…probably because I remember her all too well in her so-called prime and her antics were not admirable…Believe you me, she “outnelled” Nelle on many an occasion! (Beginning with her outright hatred of Laura and her numerous attempts to undermine her, which is how/why Luke was initially brought into the picture! It really wasn’t pretty!) Hence her much-touted “metamorphosis” into a now-purportedly respectable member of the GH medical community has never particularly rung true for me, most especially given her recently past rounds of rumpy-pumpy with Scotty whence she glowingly waxed nostalgic of her well-honed past as a putana! ( How’s that for Italian “terminology?” Certainly doesn’t mince words, eh? Hmmmm….wonder if her “spaghetti-making” skills are equally up to snuff? LOL…..) As for what to call those places of paid assignations? I’ve always preferred “cathouse!” It sort of says it all without resorting to the more coarse, common “wh*+#” designation, which, whilst truly befitting, is just plain nasty in my book!

Hayley Erin has grown SO much as an actress. I am very pleased with the power she is portraying now. She has her work cut out for her while playing with the Queen of all Daytime – Maura West. I mean, I would just walk around set trembling if I got the opportunity to work with her. There are only about four actresses in all of daytime TV who compare to Maura West and for Hayley Erin to stand toe to toe with her is impressive. Sad to see Mr Watkins go. I think it’s wrong to send another Quartermaine off into the sunset but again. Gotta clear the coffers for Mr Burton. My feelings on him as an actor won’t be put in print except for one word – YAWN – but moving on. I hope that they give Hayley some good stories. She has grown and needs to keep building her experience. GH has been doing well lately. I am hopeful for what’s ahead (except for the yawn factor coming). Kudos to Ms. Erin for good work.

Timmm

You are correct, Hayley and Maura are gold and I’m sure Hayley would say how much of an honor it is to act opposite Maura. The things you can learn and it is showing up on screen.

We already saw Kiki and Ava fight over a man, we don’t need to see it again. We’ve already seen Kiki with Michael, we don’t need to see that again. We need to see Kiki and Dillon’s future. Something fresh and new! Killon has so much potential, it’s terrible to cut that short. It’s a terrible decision on GH’s part to let Rob go.

Celia
Celia

I agree. I would not look forward to round 2 of mother and daughter having the same love interest, Nikki.
I cannot see anyone else with this Kiki, other than Dillon….can’t think past that.
And, please, I beg the PTB; not Michael!!!! Spare me!!!!!
He and Nelle are a couple made in heaven. No spunk, no spice, no life….
Giant mistake letting Robert go.
I do hope the door is, at least, left ajar for both Robert and Rebecca B.

Shay
Shay

Hey, CeeCeeGirl! It would have probably worked better to get rid of Michael and keep Dillon instead!!!! Really, that hybrid Q/Corinthos kiddo just has no charisma whatsoever, regardless of with whom he is paired…although he’s at least a darn sight better with Nelle than that ever-bland Sabs! (Their duo was snore city!!!!) But, of course, given this character’s ties to the sainted Sonny and covetous Carly, his continued presence on the GH canvas is carved in stone….God forbid those two witness the departure of yet another cub from their familial lair…the bellowing lamentations would know no earthly bounds!

Celia
Celia

@Shay.
Agreed, Shaybelle. But, please….no Morgan, albeit I do think he’ll sneak up on us.
If only not in the form of Craig. …..gives me the weebie-jeebies. Too full of himself….no humility.
If Morgan returns we will need to wear earmuffs—-tamp our ears somehow—-more Sonny and Carly on the horizon. I do not look forward to that rejoicing hoopla.
My only consolation ( I do realize many do not like Ava for her life of crime) will be that Ava did not contribute to his “death”.
What can I say? ….I am a complete and utter fan of this lady.

Shay
Shay

Oh, CeeCee, I’m just so completely bored with all things Port Charles at the moment….such little joy and excitement to be had…and retreading a tired, unimaginative character like Morgan certainly won’t add an air of festivity to the overwhelming spirit of ennui that has befallen this once great soap. What to do, what to do??? Well, first, I am waiting to see exactly what the big Burton unveiling entails….for the sake of the show, I really hope it’s something fantastic and shocking, because it is sorely needed….After that, I say keep the cast cutting going…there’s still far too much totally unnecessary deadweight…let’s get back to basics, and the historical premises that formerly made GH must-see tv!

dmr
dmr

Celia,
I AGREE, no more mother and daughter fighting over the same love interest. I am not a fan of Kiki, so the less she is on-screen, the better, IMO. Also, no more Michael and Nelle air time is needed-BORING!

Celia
Celia

@dmr.
I know, dmr….but, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if ‘they’ went there and repeat history when it comes to Ava and Kiki.
Griffin seems to be championing both mother and daughter, but I do believe he’s ‘leaning’ toward Ava. I think he has the hots for her. Ha!! LOL.
Valentin will play a massive role here—there will be the typical battle of THE two forces, good and evil, butting heads and the clashing of shield and blade. What we will see are the obvious foils here: Valentin and Griffin. I’d like to see that….what the writers could do with such a story.
I did say werks ago, Valentin would offer Ava what she wants—her beauty….vanity always wins, dmr. DOUBLE LOL. I am probably wrong and reading too much into it. These writers are mercurial….they change venue in a NY minute.
As far as Kiki….I have truly come to love her. I think she’s doing a fantastic job. ….better than some others on the show, whom I barely tolerate. ….Kristina gets on my last nerve, and Sam regressed further into her sotto-voce mumbling.

Denise Daniel

GH is making all the wrong decisions. The ylet Tyler (a Cassadine) go, they let Budig (a Webber) go and now RPW (a Quartermaine) go yet keep useless unwanted failures with zero ties to GH–Nelle, Nina, Amy, Jordan,Griffin,Oscar.
The loss of one of the very few Quartermaines is very hurtful. Jean & Shelly gave an interview about wanting to build up the Qs and fill the house up with family so I’m sure this bad decsion came from Varni and/or Valentini.
Viewers want to see characters & family that we’re invested in not newbies. The very week they fired RPW they hired Alla Korot as yet another newbie. We also don’t need 2 Jasons. For Pete’s sake pick Steve or Billy thereby saving on salary and airtime. There’s a huge part of viewership that hate the Mob side of the show & watch for the characters on the other side.
TPTB need to get it together, quite hiring, balance the show and dial way back on the mob and violence.

Timmm
Timmm

Life goes on. I like Hayley. She has grown. I want her away from Freako, Crychael and Griffoon! ALL three will pull her character into a downward spiral. If Steve Burton is a different character, some say a doctor, I would like to see something happen with those two. A mentor into med school and then fall in love.

Celia
Celia

Oh, yeah, T. I caught up with all episodes….finally.
The return of Franco leaves me scratching my head….not too appetizing.
I simply do not wish to endure going back and delve into his childhood through his stupid paintings.
This will be another Julian theme/excuse, ” the devil made me do it”……well, in Franco’s case, the growing tumor in his frontal lobe made him do it????LOL.
…..on and on and on about the paintings, with Elizabeth—barf!!!
Then again, it is said that ‘mad’ artists do their best work duting one of their insane episodes. ….look at Van Gogh, the eccentric Michelangelo, Mozart and Wagner. LOL…..to name a couple.

I like RPW a lot in this role, and am very sad that they fired him to keep William DeVry. Yes, bringing SB back took much of the budget, but they did not let RPW go until after they came to an agreement with WD.

I love GH but firing RP so another actor can come back and had previously left on his own?? Really? I don’t agree with tat at all! Also, What a mistake to fire Rebecca (Hayden) she’s a great actress, and just when she and Finn finally had a great story going. Keep Robert and bring back Rebecca .

Steve

I’m still not convinced that a Dillon recast announcement isn’t forthcoming. Someone with a soap background (i.e. Blake Berris)

Timmm

I vote for Blake Hood.

It is starting to feel like a chore to watch this show! I am so not a fan of Rebecca Budig and Robert Palmer Watkins being fired in favor of Steve Burton returning and Alla Karot joining the show! I know it is an unpopular decision, but I would rather see Dillon and Hayden on the screen than these “new” characters! If Burton turns out to be Jason I will be disappointed! His portrayal of Jason was so one note! Felt the same way about his character on Y&R to be honest! Hayden and Dillon should stay and the Karot and Burton’s characters should not come/go away! GH has fallen to my second favorite soap on daytime and it’s partly because of these poor choices! Meanwhile Days has done a 180… maybe both these actors could join that show!

dmr

Phil, you are so right. I was at home last night having a quick dinner and I turned on an episode from last week (haven’t watched in weeks). It was SO boring and after about 30 minutes, I just turned it off. I also watched a little of the episode of where Monotone Sam interrupts “the meeting” and basically gets Jason shot. Just SO stupid. I think Steve Burton will return as the head of a new family that wants control over The Dimpled Don’s territory. Boring and Boring. His return will only magnify the two idiot narcissists (Carson) and their boring sidekicks (the Monotone and Emotionless Duo, Jasam). UGH!

ANOTHER HUGE MISTAKE…G.H…….LOVE THIS ADORABLE COUPLE……MISTAKE AFTER MISTAKE……..

Jimh
Jimh

All for Steve Burton…so Jason had a twin…when AJ caused Jason to be in the hospital he was switched with his unknown twin who was kidnapped at birth for whatever reason…and years later switched for whatever reason..so who ever did the hospital switch how did they know that Jason would be in the hospital and have the twin right there to make the switch..did someone cause the accident years ago that AJ then isnt really responsible…meanwhile, Sonny and co can forgive Sam for shooting him because she had a medical condition that caused her to shoot him but they werent that forgiving to Franco who also had a medical condition responsible for the evil things he has done?…a lot of this just doesnt make sense to me!!!

Steve
Steve

The twin switch could have occurred at the hospital or in the ambulance. There probably was not time to change them prior to the accident as I believe Ned was in the driveway when they drove off.

Having AJ not be responsible would have been a great storyline if he were still around — a total game changer. However, as he must be a fool to justify Sonny, they probably wouldn’t play that beat.

The Sam/Franco anology might not move Sonny, but could impact how Billy Miller’s Jason (or Mason as many online are now calling him) accepts Liz & Franco

Celia
Celia

As always, Jimmy, you are very discerning. What you say makes complete sense.
I cannot see the two Jasons as twins. Jason number one ( Steve) is visibly much older than Jason number two ( Billy).
For what it’s worth, I did say that Jason 1 and Franco are the twins. I wonder…..
In retrospect….. Perhaps that painting he and Elizabeth ( the double mirror-image of the boy, Franco , as a child) were discussing has meaning……could it be a buried memory in Franco’s mind?
In that case, I take back what I said to Timmm….LOL.
If the story does continue in this vein, I only ask for it to be interesting and coherent.

Rebecca1
Rebecca1

Franco is in the equation, jimh. They didn’t introduce that painting of him and his “imaginary friend” for nothing. I’m curious to see if Burton is on for long term or they’re just building it up like they did for Stone who was on for about ten minutes, or Lee’s death which was discussed for a small part of one episode. They definitely like to create buzz/hype. Seems strange if Steve Burton is coming back full time; I thought he had a problem with the commute and that’s why he left to begin with. And, he started a restaurant and his nutrition biz…he’s in his band.

So. If he is back full time it’s probably going to involve three of them…Burton, Miller and Howarth.

I wonder who is REALLY lil Jake’s father? Maybe it’s “the other.”

Regardless, it’s got us all wondering, which is a good thing.

Bad thing. Robert Palmer out. I’m not so sure he was let go to accommodate Steve Burton’s return. Regardless; horrible decision. He couldn’t be more likeable, he and Kiki are perfect together and it was nice to see Dillon, Ned and Michael, (and perhaps another Q man) in the house.

Oh. One other thing. At the reading of Edward’s will Heather was up to something. Didn’t she change the will or tamper with something? I do recall she said there was another Quartermaine out there that no one knew about…

Rebecca1
Rebecca1

One other OTHER thing … if Steve Burton is staying, and turns out to be Jason’t twin, NOT Jason, then perhaps it would screw with Sam’s head because he would look like the “old” Jason. Interesting…

I’m still trying to figure out where Franco fits in but he does.

GH is doing some strange stuff..
Is it the better or worse?
Time will tell.

I am 110% for new energetic Young writers with modern media ideas and.
I would clean house; in with new out with old, and rejuvenate GH ..

but– it is what it is 🙁
I doubt there will be change for the better good.

Ava and Kiki are a good matchup ..
I fear for Kiki/Hayley ,, With no Dillion what presence could Kiki have that would do her well and not be let go, also…… perhaps her relationship with Franco will give Hayley a stronger presence minus Dillon.

Linda
Linda

Kiki with Franco-no no no! He’s too strange. I’d like to see her try to get back with Michael and give Nell some competition.

Steve

In her time on the show, Kiki has been with Michael, Dillon (his cousin) and Morgan (his brother). If the character stays, there’s no current available male character in her age bracket.

Why does Kiki need to be paired up?

” Hayley Erin; ” I am Devastated ” with you ”

Robert Palmer Watkin , is one of , if not , the best newbie .

when any show… NEEDS male characters .. especially offspring of veteran and core familial. WHY DO THIS ? Shelley and Frank are so dense dull and without character.

hey… this is no lovefest. this stinks and let me tell you … Shelley and Frank “your shit stinks too ”

whew that was good

Hayley : “… I love us together on and off camera. ”

MF : “…you both worked very hard to develop an on-screen relationship for Kiki and Dillon, and bring that to life, ”

Absolute

Hayley, the reformed bad girl who no longer has any trepidation… has found her womanhood… and has a newfound strength… and yeah… Dillon is a huge part of this. I LOVE THE GOOD GUY. who’s to say who he fully could ? the writers did not even care to write him. what is this… after Tracy left… its OK to dismantle the Quartermainia ? so many things wrong.

who doesn’t LOVE a newbie pairing that was on full upswing. just a pull at the heart.. a kindling of love and romance… with two solid actors who worked their craft.

MOM Ava : “… I have grown to love Maura in a way that is real in my life; not only on-screen.  I think that is what has made the relationship between Kiki and Ava so strong ”

this is tour de force. god.. theres so much magic between these two. your heart rips either way. throw in Avery… and it’s like perhaps each of them… Ava and Kiki… loving that child, together has bonded them forever .. know matter what moves… the love and care of this mother and daughter plus avery is what I pull for. you rarely witness more

Tears for my show

I love you Kiki… and laud and cheer from the audience your skill Hayley

Ces
Ces

This is a stupid move! Not only is RW talented, not only do fans love Kiki & Dillon together, not only do we need this Q in the house, but we love him with Ned too as brothers! WTH GH?? Stupidest move ever. I don’t get this one.
I get the Rebecca Budig one – her character was never a fan favorite from the get go, but this is stupid … FOR WHAT? To put us through another Kiki/Ava/Griffin re deux? Who wants to see that? Mother & daughter sharing the same man. Or Kiki falls for Griffin while Ava wants him? Haven’t we been there before? New writers don’t have an original story so they’ll pull up the old Morgan one again?
Kiki & Dillon were fresh!!
STUPID GH! Stupid!!!
Erin is a sweetheart and a lovely interview. Thanks.

Haha…I think they are going to bring Morgan back, Ces. I actually liked the character (and Bryan Craig) so I’m fine with it if they do. And if it gets Carly and Sonny to change the subject it’s a win-win! Even so, I’m hoping they do a reversal on Dillon and keep Robert Palmer.

Hey Celia! Ha! Haven’t had much to comment about lately on here. Missed my MF buddies on here like you too! 🙂
No, I haven’t watched Days since after Bo died; just couldn’t get into it again. LOL funny @ Doc, please don’t make me go back.
@Rebecca, yeah, GH is making a big mistake letting RPW go; he fits in so nice with the Q bunch. I didn’t mind Bryan Craig, actually liked watching Morgan but I’d have for the C family to have gone through all that grieving for nothing. Sometimes the character should stay gone.

Jimh

Why is that vent even there…it doesnt really serve any purpose except give John and Marlena a way to chat…i keep thinking John will break it open, call thru and reunite with Marlena…lol

I know how you feel, Ces….
As far as I can see Ron has not “straightened” Days out. At least, not my satisfaction. But, that’s just my opinion.
As with GH, Days has too many wounds. It will take a master doctor with magical hands to please me. No pun intended. Ha!!!!
Thanks for replying….I really do miss your comments….

Ces

I miss them too! 🙂
GH needs some help. I guess they think Jason and/or Sonny getting shot every other week is exciting stuff. Not sure if this story is making way for Steve Burton’s return; can’t say I’m looing forward to that either.
Idk… I tune in but nothing to write home about. Kinda wishing Sam would go crazy again!
No one seems to have original storytelling anymore. Sigh..

Celia
Celia

Yeah….I agree.
I don’t know if the “exodus” of actors is due to the “resurgence” of the great Steve Burton, LOL.
But, I would not be surprised if Robert Palmer were let go to make room for Morgan. Unfortunately for moi, I prefer Dillon to Morgan.
How can Kiki possibly handle two suitors….you know, being in pre-med and all.
Did Kiki go to College? As much as I love Kiki….this is “kinda” ridiculous.

Ces
Ces

Kiki is pretty damn advanced I tell ya! Very believable! Guess it helps to know people in high places! I am digging Jim DePaiva; will Kiki start crushing on her Mentor now? Haha.. not sure what they have in store for her but I hope they reverse their decision and keep RPW!
Also, never understood Steve Burton’s appeal.

Celia
Celia

@Ces.
You and I both, Ces….Steve Burton is a far cry from “da man”, in my opinion.
I am only acquainted with his Dylan ( Y&R). He was dubbed Robocop for a rason.
However, at the end of his tenure, I was left with my mouth agape….he made a complete turnabout. He was emotional….something which Dylan had never shown before, and from what I understand, neither did Jason Morgan…hence the name “stone cold”, I take it ? Yet, I am not among those Steve-swooning females …
I do feel that Steve is returning to prove that he is either Jason Morgan or Franco’s twin.
Could it be that the real Jason ( Billy) was stolen by Helena? Or simply given to her by Heather? That his face has always been thus; accident or not? One of the Jasons is Franco’s twin….this is the reason for all the pictures and an influx of walks down memory lane….done with the neverending discussions, Ces. ….. ‘they’ need to pave the way for what’s on the menu next, I guess.

It would thrill me to no end if Robert could stay or return in the near future. He and Kiki fulfill everything positive for which a couple could wish/hope . Not so Craig’s Morgan.
Oh, yeah, LOL… how would that go….if Kiki did ‘start crushing’ on Dr. Bensch ( sp)? She will be a bonafide medic in a few weeks…..

Yet another case of bad judgment by those involved in GH casting decisions. Letting Rebecca go was a huge disappointment. They’ll probably hire some dancing bears and clowns, considering how bad their judgment is.

Maybe they have Steve Burton in mind as her new “love interest”. I for one lack enthusiasm for him returning.

One suggestion: Someone needs to start doing drug testing on those in charge of casting of what’s become a disappointing drama.

Susan
Susan

I am very upset about GH letting Robert P Watkins go. First they let Hayden go, who had a fantastic storyline, that was just heating up, then Frank Valentini, says it ended naturally. No, it did not. She was pregnant, engaged, and Finn and her, were just buying a house. They were getting rid of Hayden and Julian at first. So they could pay the big bucks, to bring Steve Burton back. Then Julian resigned his contract, so they blindside, rob, and let him go instead. We did not need Steve Burton back. He willingly left on his own, and lied to his fans about it. Then he left Y& R, and told his fans over there, the same dam lie. I prey they don’t make him Jason again. He can’t be trusted, to just not bail out, when his contract is up. We have Billy Miller playing Jason, and it must stray that way. Let him be the twin, that Franco thought he had.

AJ
AJ

Well I quit GH when I got bored with it, probably around season 46. I came back for the 50th Anniversary and stuck with it. I’m on the verge of saying goodbye again. I’ll give the new story surrounding Steve Burton a shot, but if it’s not FANTASTIC, I’m done. Too much quality TV out there. I try not to be critical of GH. Firing of Rebecca Budig was unfortunate, but I felt the character wasn’t that great. I’d be fine with other firings too, but to get rid of the only contract Q (Michael isn’t really a Q in my mind) is another nail in the coffin. Everything I read is about people wanting more Qs. More hospital. I’m not sure why at the very least they don’t try these things and see if ratings tick up. I’m not a Sonny/Carly hater, so I don’t have issues with that. I just want to see some of what made GH, GH.

Michael
Michael

It’s hard to understand after actually doing it right this time – taking it slow, developing their relationship and letting the audience get behind the coupling – that tptb would throw away all that correctly done work and ax Robert. With their renewed focus on all things Sonny and Carly (and here comes two Jason’s) despite rating’s history indicating where that got the show in the long term, it seems like GH is self-sabotoging.

mike
mike

Watkins was great as Dillon one of the very few Q’s left. This is a mistake by the powers that be.

su0000
su0000

Dillon was never written strongly into the Q family as an active Q.
He had no purpose as to saving the Q legacy..
He should have been head of one of the Q holdings doing Quartermain stuff.
The writers failed to Q him ..

jules
jules

What’s the difference between bringing bringing Michael Easton back 2 times as different people and bringing Steve Burton back? We accepted that, the thing is that the character that Steve played for years was a beloved part of GH. He left before and came back and no one seemed to have a problem with that. I know I was glad he came back and I do hope he comes back as Jason. Billy Miller is no match for Steve as that character and the character needs to be revived along with Sam because that’s just getting stupid. Whining, weak and boring. Sam is supposed to be bad-assed and a good Jason/storyline makes her worth watching.

I liked the Dillon/Kiki thing but it’s not the end of the world and he certainly wasn’t let go to pay for Steve’s salary. Everybody always jumps to that conclusion and even if it was true it’s not Steve’s fault. He didn’t look at the GH budget and say ‘well I want to come back so you have to cut so-and-so to make that happen’. GH didn’t have to hire him back so stop blaming Steve for putting Robert and Rebecca out of their jobs. They worked for ABC/GH.

The will probably bring Morgan back, since they never found his body and then Kiki will have her man back. Just hope they don’t put Steve in that spot. That would be a mistake for me.

Shay
Shay

Why hello there, Jules! And right on about Steve Burton….so much ado over him when we don’t even yet know the precise nature and duration of his return! Definitely a wait-and-see attitude is in order! As for the Kiki/Dillon thing, yes, they were a cute couple and Robert made for a pleasant-enough Q, but the fuss over his unexpected departure is becoming a bit overblown…This show has been on such a downhill trajectory for so long, that a good housecleaning is definitely in order….keep it coming, I say! In terms of Morgan, I really hope that he stays “dead.” I found the character utterly excruciating to endure, not to mention, quite obviously not the sharpest tool in the shed…all that pretty boy pouting and preening can only carry him so far, and he’s surpassed his shelf life on that account, plus, Kiki can do better…..(And Ava, too, for that matter!) Maybe she should just concentrate on her studies for awhile, then bag a nice doctor when the opportunity presents itself….(Maybe Griffin?)…Anyway, it’s ever so nice to see you posting at GH again….although, alas, as you have probably already observed, not much has changed since last you graced these threads….yeah, sadly, some things really don’t improve with time….LOL.

Celia
Celia

Double LOL, Shay…. something must be wrong with me….I never found “Morgan’ good-looking…nor inspiring.
I don’t think he is “all that”…. at least, not my kind of “hot”….
….yes, Kiki has come a long way. I did not welcome her, at all, when she first joined GH….I wished for KA to have stayed.
But, it did not take me long to “get into” Hayley….love, love, love her now. She is perfect…
With Dillon gone, I agree with you and su0000 …..Kiki will do just fine without a guy, for now; wait for Dillon ( he may return) …..just throw herself into her studies—-not an easy feat, medical school…..HaHa…

Can’t stand Morgan. I would always fast forward past his scenes because he was just unbearable to watch. Hope he stays gone and am getting pretty sick of everyone talking about him everyday too. Now that Jason (Billy) is in a coma it makes me wonder what role Steve is going to play. Will Jason (Billy) wake up and remember that he is someone else and in walks Steve as Jason. Is there going to be some connection to Franco since they are showing pictures with him and another little boy. Where’s Heather when you need her?

On another note, getting sick of Finn’s histrionics about Hayden. You’re gonna tell me that he believed that the baby is gone. I didn’t believe it. Get a grip. Next thing you know a teenager is going to walk in and it will be his. Ha!

It may not be a coincidence that Robert Palmer Watkins was let go right around the time that William DeVry(Julian) agreed to a new deal. Also maybe GH wants to recast Dillon and letting Watkins go was a casting decision and not a financial decision.

Wednesday’s episode was a perfect example why they should keep RPW. In just a few scenes of Dillon with Nell, there was so much more chemistry than the year’s worth of scenes with Michael.

Cathy

Since I don’t know what is going on behind the scenes, I can only speak to what I see on the screen. And letting RPW go while keeping CD as the incredibly boring and charismaless Michael, is crazy. It defies all common sense. I just can’t believe it. As much as I am not a big fan of the return of Burton, I highly doubt this has anything to do with him. I think this is a behind the scenes thing that we just aren’t going to ever get the real story on. But man, the viewers are the ones who suffer on this one.

Was starting to like the Dillon/Kiki pairing. And losing Budig is another mistake. Hope Steve Burton is worth it.

General Hospital

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Lucas Gives Wiley To Michael; While Willow Learns the Devastating Truth

Friday’s episode of General Hospital, brought the highly-emotional moments viewers had been waiting for all-week long; following the year and a half reveal that Nelle (Chloe Lanier) and Brad (Parry Shen) engineered a baby switch with Willow’s (Katelyn MacMullen) dead baby, Wiley being passed off as Michael (Chad Duell) and Nelle’s newborn, Jonah, and Jonah being raised by Brad and Lucas (Ryan Carnes) as Wiley.  Now with the truth out, it was time for two of the heaviest beats of the story to be played out.

When Willow comes to at the hospital with Chase (Josh Swickard) by her side, needless to say she is dazed and freaking out that Nelle took Wiley.  Chase tells her he has some things to tell her and it’s not going to be easy to hear. Willow braces herself and then Chase tells her the story of the baby switch and how her baby died a SIDS death while at Brad and Lucas’ and then how the babies were switched.

Photo: ABC

In a heartbreaking and powerful performance from Katelyn MacMullen (yes, she is our pick for “Power Performance of the Week”), Willow struggles to come to grips with the truth and starts to realize all of Brad’s machinations, as she thinks back to herself how could she do that to her son … to trust him with Brad, only to have the little infant die.  The devastation played by MacMullen, whose Willow, now must realize her baby never lived the full and happy young life she thought, was gut-wrenching.

Meanwhile, in yet another top-notch performance, William deVry (Julian) showed the pain and the need to unburden himself as Julian talks to his sister. Ava (Maura West) and spills what happened.   He goes so far to admit to Ava that he knew what Brad had done. Ava cannot believe he did not go to Sonny (Maurice Benard) right away with this Intel, but Julian just could not do this to his son, Lucas and rip the baby from his arms.  Julian says he will face-off with Sonny and not leave town, if it comes to that.   Ava says they have to come up with a way to silence Brad … before Brad gives up Julian’s part in the whole baby cover-up.

Photo: JPI

And in yet another masterful performance, we have to give it up to Chloe Lanier.  Who can play Nelle and spin stories and the tears so well, that if you did not know this pathological liar you would think she is telling the truth. When in opposing holding cells at the PCPD, Nelle lays it on about Brad so that the guard can hear them. She blames Brad for being the instigator in the baby switch and taking advantage of her – a distraught new mother, confused and dazed on the route where the baby switch happened.  It works! Brad is moved to a different cell and thinks look very grim for him.  Nelle smiles through her crocodile tears!

Photo: JPI

Then, in what we all knew had to happen, and even so, was still as heartbreaking as ever; Lucas spends his final moments with Wiley as his father in the kitchen at the Corinthos’ along with Bobbie (Jackie Zeman) and Carly (Laura Wright).  Lucas starts to tell his mother and sister, all the things Wiley needs and likes, such as having a story read to him.  All of this brings the tears as they know Lucas has to give the child back to Michael; who has been robbed of a year and half as the baby’s rightful father.

Michael tells Lucas they will work this out, so Lucas remains a constant in Wiley’s life. He also tells Sonny and Sasha (Sofia Matteson) he feels so badly for Lucas, but they tell him to be happy for this chance to have the son he grieved for.   In the end, a tear-filled Lucas hands Wiley to Michael as everyone watches on in sadness for one father … and joy for the other.  Ryan Carnes was poignant in the scenes; as was Chad Duell.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Michael Blasts Brad As The Truth About Wiley Comes Out

FINALLY! On Wednesday’s episode of General Hospital, Lucas (Ryan Carnes) memory is jogged just enough that he clearly remembers Brad’s (Parry Shen) shocking words before their car crash; where Brad confessed that Wiley was Nelle (Chloe Lanier) and Michael’s (Chad Duell) biological son.

At the Corinthos home, Lucas stands up and announces to Michael that Wiley is actually his believed to be dead son, Jonah. Carly’s (Laura Wright) mouth drops and then she takes over getting to the root of the truth of the baby switch.

Brad is cornered and left with no choice but to fess up. He explains how Wiley died when he was no longer breathing, and how he was driving with him, when he ended up on the route where Nelle left Michael to die in the car he was driving (Michael recalls this bit of Intel in a flashback).

Then, Brad explains how Nelle appeared with her newborn baby and claimed the whole thing was engineered by Nelle …  and how he was so upset and panicked, that he went along with her plan.

Michael lets Brad have it for all of his lies and machinations, and the pain it has inflicted on so many people for over a year and half.  How on earth could he do that? Carly also lays into him.

With Chase gone, Nelle goes looking for “Wiley” who is with Willow, and the two get into a major throwdown catfight.  Nelle comes out the victor and goes to get her baby ready to leave town with her son.

So, what did you think of how the truth finally came out?  What did you think of Michael’s tirade on Brad? What do you think will happen next? Comment below.

GH’s James Patrick Stuart Talks on Valentin’s Downfall and Potential Rise to Power

After all his bravado, machinations and lies to keep the woman he loves, and believing he was the rightful heir to the Cassadine fortune, suddenly it all came crashing down for Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) on recent episodes of General Hospital.

Payback can be a bitch, but for Valentin; who’s past has been fraught with numerous physical and emotional tribulations since his childhood, he now finds himself at the lowest point in his life; losing Nina (Cynthia Watros) who’s now taken up with Jax (Ingo Rademacher), realizing he is the biological son of the evil Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers), and not Mikkos, and having all his best laid plans and misdeeds backfire.  (Remember, he shot and “killed” Nikolas, and set up the ruse that led Sasha to pretend she was Nina’s bio-daughter.)  Now, enter Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier), who could very well hold the ticket, to Valentin’s rise to wealth and power all over again.

Michael Fairman TV chatted with James Patrick Stuart to get the lowdown on: those heavy and emotional scenes opposite Constance Towers, working with Cynthia Watros as his newest Nina, if Valentin might really kill Jax the next time he thinks about it, and what about a potential relationship between Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin?

Not many can play bad as good as James in this industry.  He does it so effortlessly and still brings out the humanity in the guy that has t-r-o-u-b-l-e written all over him.  Here’s what James had to share about all of Valentin’s recent dramatic moments, a tease of what’s to come, and much more.

Photo: JPI

Valentin’s world has imploded at the moment.  When did you initially find out that he was going to turn out to not be a true Cassadine heir?

JAMES:  Well, there were some clues dropped by Frank Valentini (executive producer, GH) back when we did the gallery auction where Helena’s portrait went up in flames.  Frank looked at me and goes, “Hey, Jack Nicholson it up.  Have some fun!  You’re not going to be feeling pretty good for a while.”  (Laughs)  I’m like, “Oh … what are the plans?”  He pulled me aside and goes, “Yeah, you’re going to lose Nina, but you’re going to try to take over ELQ.  That’s when I started to go, “Wait a minute!  That sounds to me like Valentin’s losing his money.”  (Laughs)  With the character of Nikolas (Marcus Coloma) coming back; it’s pretty great.  I think the writing was on the wall there.  I put it out on twitter the other day.  I said, “Look what they’ve done to my boy.”  Somebody chimed in, “They gave him a storyline!” (Laughs)

Who doesn’t love to see you, James Patrick Stuart, play tortured soul?  They audience loves to see you get the opportunity to go to those depths in your performances.

JAMES:  It’s been really interesting for me.  I’ve had a lifetime of playing bad guys because the line was always shorter. (Laughs)  Everybody wants to be Tom Cruise, but the Alan Rickman’s of it all, to me, were what was so interesting.  Early on, you play one dimensional kind of twisting of the mustache, tying a woman to the train tracks.  After a while, you start to watch the truly great actors.  They start to take you on a ride.  If you’re paying attention, you start to feel what it would be like to be that damaged, and that’s why you do it.  Then you start to see the vulnerability. To me, I thought, “This is a great time in my life because I’m ready to do that.” A lot of people say, “I don’t understand.  I feel like that makes no sense. because why would I root for a person who behaves like this?” and that to me, I feel is the greatest compliment of all.

So much happened recently to Valentin in one fell swoop; he overhears Nina telling Ava (Maura West) she kissed Jax, then he envisions shooting Jax and then he is drinking himself into oblivion and he gets a “visit” from Helena!  But … the scenes between Valentin and Helena really summed up the bitter truth for him, wouldn’t you say?

JAMES:  Yes.  In the “Helena” scenes, it all basically is revealed.  It all comes down in a moment where he “sees” her.  I think he realizes with the DNA test; he’s not the person he thought he was, but he certainly had no idea that he had her blood in his veins.  The truly tragic moment of the evening is when it dawns on him that he has a daughter with Helena’s blood in her veins.  Now, he would kill her a thousand times over in that moment.  He can’t do it.  He’s fighting phantoms.  That’s the bottom below the bottom, and things got worse than he ever thought they would get.

Does Valentin have any idea then, who his biological father could be?

JAMES:  I don’t think so.  I don’t believe so.  I know I don’t.  I think once he realizes that Helena is in fact the mother, I think he’d rather just go into oblivion.  I think at that point, he’s out of answers.  Enter Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) …which is wonderful because I think the world of Nancy, and she saves the day.   Alexis basically talks him out of hurting himself, telling him to count his blessings that he is not a Cassadine, etc, which was a really sweet moment.

I assume, when you have this kind of material to play, it must be exhausting, but exhilarating at the same time?

JAMES:  I think that’s exactly right.  As an actor, I think you want to do this stuff.  Maura West and I compare notes all the time.  I think it can be kind of emotionally draining.  You do feel it, and I felt it when I had spent a lot of time with Nina and Valentin, and when the actresses changed, and we brought Cynthia Watros in.  I worked twice as hard to make sure that Cynthia’s landing was as easy as possible, and I really grew attached to the Nina and Valentin connection.  So, when Jax steps in, Cynthia’s love life means nothing to me, I don’t care about that, but Nina’s love life means a lot to me!  And it bums me out, and I don’t know that I’ll actually be watching any future love scenes between them as much as I love them both!  I have a deep attachment to the Valentin connection to Nina.  So, the lines get burred because we just play these characters so long.

What was it like sharing those tough scenes with Constance? No one can play icy, evil villainess like her … and yet in real life, she is such a gracious and kind-hearted woman.

JAMES:  In real life, Constance is such a sweetheart, and she’s so grateful to be there.  She was so ready to work, and rehearse, and play, and find the stuff, and she was great.  I’d been in scenes with her before.  Last time, we didn’t really talk to each other.  I was with the hump.  I was being Valentin pre-surgery.  It was some sort of moment in a graveyard, but this time we actually got to interact with each other.

You look at Valentin, and he’s not had the greatest life.  Do you bring his entire back-story into your performance; such as when he was deformed with the hump and how he had to literally reconstruct his life both in the physical and in emotional ways for many years?

JAMES:  Absolutely.  It’s the brokenness that he’s making choices from.  He was never truly and authentic person to begin with which is why his love fell apart.  He’s always been faking.  He’s always been putting on a show.  That’s not sustainable in matters of the heart.  It was unbelievably easy for Jax to swoop in, because it was inevitable that things were going to fall apart.  Of course, that anger and that brokenness were what lead him to want to kill Jax.  There’s no question.  He was prepared to do that.  If you look in the eyes in the fantasy sequence in the shooting, he just wanted to watch him die.  He wanted to watch the light go out in Jax’s eyes.  He was so furious … and even more tragic is … that was all he could think of, and somehow, he realized in that moment that wouldn’t work, because he’d lose his daughter.

Anna and Finn (Michael Easton) just kind of busted up.  Do you think Anna and Valentin will hookup? There is a connection and a history between the two of them whenever they seem to be in proximity of one another.

JAMES:  Personally, I’m waiting for that.  I hope so!  There is a finesse and elegance to that woman, and not only that, there is an effortless to the connection between Valentin and Anna, if one can say that about one’s own coupling.  I love to look at it!  I think we go together like a wink and a smile.  I just find that chemistry really great.  I think that’s mostly Finola, though.  She can probably have chemistry with most anything.

Valentin was going to leave Port Charles with Charlotte (Scarlett Fernandez), after Nikolas revealed all and the fallout began.  Interestingly enough, it was Anna who came to Valentin’s side and tried to talk him down from fleeing with his daughter and showed such compassion for him!

JAMES:  Wasn’t that great?  She was the one who got him.  She was the one who was able to calm the beast.  There was no one else he would have listened to.  In the moment in the police station, after Charlotte had been kidnapped, and there is that moment where Anna has that bruise, I thought it was such a tender moment.  I just said, “If I kiss my finger and touch your wound?” and she’s like, “Do it.”  It was just this moment where we had been bitter rivals and enemies for so long, but he just adores her so much it’s undeniable that he sees her wounded and wants to make it better.  It’s floating out there waiting to be done.  I know that everybody knows it.  It’s just a matter of what the right away to go about in the writing would be.

So, you’ve worked opposite two acting dynamos in the role of Nina – Michelle Stafford and now, Cynthia Watros.  Was the transition difficult for you when Cynthia came to GH?

JAMES:  It wasn’t.  It was scary because Michelle Stafford wasn’t just one in a million, I mean, she is one of a kind.  The last thing in the world that I would ever want to consider doing myself was recast that actress.  So, my deal was (and I’ve said this to Cynthia) I said, “I have no control over this.  All I can do is make the landing as easy as possible for Cynthia.”  We did a lot of photoshoots together, and I had flowers waiting for her, and I did everything possible to make sure that she knew that she had a friend and that she had somebody that was going to make it as easy as possible.  It was rough because a lot of the trolls on social media were just awful to her… just brutal, and she goes, “I have thick skin.  I can take it,” and then a week later, she goes, “I’ve closed all my social media accounts!”  (Laughs)  It’s been fun to watch those guys turn around and go, “You have a really special person.”  That wedding stuff was just incredible!  She came so prepared and she knocked it out of the park.  Cynthia has been wonderful.  I love them both.  I love her the reddest, and I love Michelle the bluest, and together I love them the purplest.  (Laughs)

It’s interesting that all the women in his life such as Anna and Nina, all have a soft-spot for Valentin; even though they don’t necessarily want to be with him.  These ladies are just drawn to this dysfunctional guy.

JAMES:  Don’t you think?  Is it that you want to help him, you want to fix him, you see the potential, you want to help him despite himself?  I think that’s what it is.

Do you think Valentin’s still going to try to win Nina back, or is that done?

JAMES:  I don’t know.  I do know that the Valentin I know will never shake Nina, and when he loves, he loves forever.  He can be simultaneously in love with Anna whenever she’s near.  I don’t believe he ever truly got over Nina hearing his story and his brokenness and still loving him twice as hard.  Years ago, there was a moment where he said to her the stuff that he’s never said, and Michelle beautifully kissed my tears away and said, “You’re beautiful” to me.   I think in that moment his fate was sealed.  I think he knew that this was his woman forever.  So, I just don’t think that that goes away.  I think he will always carry a torch for Nina, for sure.

Do you see Valentin becoming darker and darker now that he had found out he is Helena’s offspring?

JAMES:  Well, yes and no.  I remember watching these scenes and we’ve done a lot of this stuff, and you know how easy it is to sort of go, “Let’s go dark, let’s go dark, let’s go more dark,” and after a while, I go, “You know, maybe he does learn something.  Maybe there’s hope for this guy after all.”  Of course, more bad stuff will happen to him, and he will do more bad stuff, because that’s just who he is.  A leopard can’t change his spots, and those are his survival instincts, but there are some new colors, and it’s all a direct result of all of just these horrible things that have happened to him… mostly learning that he is part Helena and he can’t undo that.

We saw that Nelle (Chloe Lanier) called and then goes to see Valentin, because she wants to sell her shares of ELQ.  So, obviously he has the potential to become really rich here which is what would give him his power back.  How do you think that will go over with the rest of the Quartermaines? (Laughs)

JAMES:  (Laughs) A lot of the Quartermaine actors have been asking me that in the hallways of General Hospital!  Isn’t that interesting how he’ll just sort of switch families? (Laughs)

Of all the people, just as Valentin’s life is in the gutter and he is at his lowest, who should show up with a sort of lifeline, Nelle! How will he go about attempting to gain control of ELQ?

JAMES:  Valentin knows he has to get the majority shares to gain a control of the company, and he has to do it fast before people see that he’s doing it.  So, that’s where Michael E. Knight (Martin Gray) has been.  He’s gallivanting the states rapidly accumulating shares.  (Laughs)

It’s been so fun seeing you and Michael Knight on-screen and on a daytime soap together again, as so many remember you as Tad Martin and Will Cortlandt on All My Children.  How has it been getting the chance to work with Michael?

JAMES:  My God, are you kidding me?  He taught me!  He’s the guy who taught me.  I didn’t know how to do this.  Nobody instinctively knows… this is a very unique art form.  It’s more Jazz than anything else, and he showed me how to do it!  Walt Willey (Ex-Jack, AMC) showed me how to do my hair, and Michael Knight taught me how to break down a script!  And, what’s so funny is he is still doing it.  In a scene on GH, when he threw in that line, “From now on, you pay in advance,” I just about fell on the floor!  I thought, “There he is!  That’s the Michael I’ve always known and loved.”

Who would have thought that you guys would get to share scenes like that again on soaps?  You just never know in this life who may be wind up back in your orbit.

JAMES:  It’s incredible.  That’s what we say all of the time… “Who would have thought?”  You could never plan something like this and that we’d still be doing it at this point.

Now with Lulu (Emme Rylan) learning that Valentin is not a Cassadine, and Nina apparently moving on to a relationship with Jax, what do you think it will mean for their relationship in raising their daughter, Charlotte?

JAMES:  I think in the short-term, Valentin’s shelved any ideas of getting her out of Charlotte’s life.  He’s sort of putting out the fires in his own personal life.  Charlotte needs a mother in her life, and he’s quite willing to share custody as they always have been.  She seems to be looking at this as an opportunity to paint him as an unfit father, and she wants full-time custody.  So, we’re back to that again.  It looks to me like Lulu is kicking Valentin while he’s down.

It was so nice to see you, and some of your GH co-stars such as: Steve Burton (Jason) and Maurice Benard (Sonny) show up for Y&R’s Eric Braeden’s (Victor Newman) 40th anniversary on set celebration at CBS.  It was quite the event; speakers galore, and so many from our industry and beyond in attendance.

JAMES:  It was pretty profound.  Eric has always been kind to me.  I only worked with him on one movie, a western, called The Man Who Came Back, and that was probably 12 years ago.  He has been so complimentary of me in interviews and in his book.  So, if he does that with me, I can only imagine how many dear, dear friendships he has.  So, the fact that everybody showed up like that from the president of CBS Entertainment to local councilmen, and that they were willing to do be there for 2 hours was really proof of how much they love him.  Peter Bergman (Jack, Y&R), who I don’t even think was working that day, came in for it and spoke at the event. There was so much respect shown for Eric and what he has meant to this medium.

Your album The Apple Tree was so well-received, and everyone always loves seeing you get the opportunity to sing on General Hospital as well.  Will you continue to put out more music in 2020?

JAMES:  Yeah, that’s the plan.  I have another one that I’m working on.  I have a bunch of songs.  I’m in no rush to get it out.  Unfortunately, I lost Glen Roven, who wrote the cello part for Book of Love, passed away right after the Nurses’ Ball where I played Book of Love, which is really heartbreaking, and then, Michael Sherwood, who helped me with a number of songs on the record passed away right after The Apple Tree came out.  So, I’m a little gun-shy.  But, I’m planning on having something out by December for Christmas.

In closing, what would you say the fans should look forward to in the weeks ahead from Valentin?

JAMES: Look forward to that moment where Valentin is so low that there’s nowhere to go but up!  The comeback is going to be one for the books.

So, what do you think of how Valentin’s life hit rock bottom?  Do you think he will ever win Nina back? Do you think he will takeover ELQ? Share your thoughts on James’ recent performances and his thoughts contained in this interview via the comment section below.
