During last week’s on-set celebration for General Hospital’s Emmy victories at the 39th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, On-Air On-Soaps chatted with Jason Thompson  (Patrick) to get the inside scoop on the good Dr. Drake’s drug problem …  and the return of Kimberly McCullough (Robin) on this week’s episodes where Patrick sees a vision/ghost of Robin!

Jason also discusses the possibility of a romance between Patrick and Lulu (played by Julie Marie Berman) and the good faith that has been given to Thompson from the producer and writers at General Hospital to carry the ball in some very heavy storylines, and how he relishes the opportunity to portray them.  Here’s what Jason had to tell us below about Patrick’s current plights, working on GH post-Kimberly McCullough, and what may lie ahead.

Did you know Patrick was going to be an amphetamine freak?

JASON:  Yeah, kind of.  I hadn’t been here for a couple weeks and came in and was doing my very first scene.  Our executive producer, Frank Valentini, pulled me aside and said, “You have a drug problem.”  I said, “What? What do you mean I have a drug problem?”  And Frank says, “Well, we are giving you a drug problem.”   So I said, “When?”  He said, “Now!”  So, I then said, “Let me get this straight.  In between my rehearsal and my take I have a drug problem?”  He said, “Yeah.”  I said, “OK.”  I then said, “Do you know what drug it is?”  He said, “No. We don’t know that stuff yet.”   So long story short, I kind of knew.  At the beginning, it was fun to play and not have it written in the script, but just play it within myself where I would be playing different kinds of energies, but not have it written that I am taking pills and everything.  Once that starts to kick-in it has a tendency to become just about that.  I did not want it to be about everything I was doing.  It was a thing Patrick was on while he was going about his life, so why would anybody know?  So it was me who knew I was taking them to help Patrick get through the day.  I made a point to know when I would be taking them and when they would be wearing off.  Then slowly he gets more hooked on the drugs and then that is where it kind of hit, that it became too much and things began to fall apart for Patrick.

I will tell you why I liked this.  Because I was wondering, but never really knew, what drug he was actually on.  So at first, it was a bit of a mystery.

JASON:  A lot of people were saying, “Well, I don’t understand how he could be all fine after that?”  And I did not want to say anything about it, because I was glad people were reacting that way, as that was part of it.  Part of it was being on the drugs and getting out of bed and getting through the day with an energy that Patrick hasn’t had in a very long time.  It wasn’t being written in, so I could just play in my own kind of way.

I was glad that is was speed rather than tranquilizers!  We have seen so many soap characters take that road to cope.

JASON:  There is a lot of ways this could’ve gone.  They could have put him on anti-depressants which could have changed the energy.  But at that point with different people stopping by his house to tell him to get off the couch and shave and everything, it had to become something like that.  And once he was able to get out of the house, it was about just being able to get out of the house, and getting back to work.  At the beginning there are things that Patrick did, like Ewen’s surgery, and who knows how much he had taken at that point, if any.  It was fun to play in my own world and not have it knocked over Patrick’s head in every scene about taking a pill.

So here is my take on the whole thing: I think the GH powers-that-be realize this guy, Jason Thompson, is such a great actor, and we saw it so clearly through the whole Robin exit story that I think they are making you one of the leading characters on the show.  They know they have gold with you and you can handle the big emotional stories!  Thoughts?

JASON:  I have always felt they believed in me here.  I personally thrive when there is something to play.  I really enjoyed playing the Robin character leaving/dying, or whatever that is, because I had something to do.  Not that I don’t enjoy just being in the hospital, because that can be fun, too.  I think everybody is very capable here at GH when they are given something, and when it is written in a way that you can really get under as an actor.  Personally, I have put a lot of work into my role at GH for the last six months.  I have tried to really be here, and really be focused, and start down on my dressing room before I get to the stage.  So it’s not just, “OK. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!”  No. I am doing what I am doing a half hour before I get up here.  I am really trying to concentrate on being the best that I possibly can, and being as honest as I possibly can, and putting as much energy I need to in the scenes.   I felt I also had a responsibility for the Robin character.  I wanted to make sure with that kind of pressure, and with the importance of that storyline, I wanted to make sure I did everything I could for it.  I feel like I did that.  Not all of it worked, but most of it did.  I watched it back and sometimes I feel I didn’t connect sometimes 100% as much as I could, but that is not possible with every single scene.  You can’t always hit a home run.  I welcome more work and more challenge.  If I am here I want to work and portray story as well as I can.  And if Ron Carlivati (GH’s head writer) and Frank Valentini trust me to do that, then I am all for it.

Well, I kind of hope his drug issue spirals more out of control where he might go to the streets and start slamming meth.  That would be an amazing story to play.  I mean people go to great lengths with addictions, and do things other people in their lives would never know about it.

JASON:  The drug Patrick has been taking so far is Adderall.  If they think, as you suggest, that is the direction the character needs to go I am not about not portraying it, because humans are capable of very crazy stuff that you can’t even imagine.  We are in a medium where the camera is in the room of privacy.  I have to be as private as possible in those moments, even though there are millions of people watching this character.  At the end of the day, it’s this guy going through it.

So this week, Robin returns in what appears to be a ghost with an ominous message for Patrick, and fans get to see you and Kimberly McCullough together for the first time since her exit.  What can you preview?

JASON: The Robin character comes back this week in some ghost form.  Kimberly McCullough was leaving for a vacation in Europe along with Finola Hughes (Anna).  So we had to shoot that material more than a month ago.  So last week Julie Marie Berman (Lulu) and I shot scenes that were supposed to be from that exact same day.  So it’s all over the place.  It was difficult to come to work that day because I was going, “OK. Where was I?  What was going on?”  So the second after Robin is gone, we just shot last week.  So it was a lot, but it was a challenge.  It was about being present and remembering what it was like to go through that almost a month ago!   I don’t know that much more for Patrick’s future, but I know he goes to the hospital.  I don’t know if he goes through with the detox or the rehab, or not.

So I am thinking Lulu and Patrick could be a romantic item!  I am placing bets on that one.

Courtesy/ABC

JASON:  Is that right?  Patrick is in an interesting place right now. He is a little bit of a lost soul, but he is by no means over Robin.  It’s not a clean slate for Patrick by any means.  However, he has got a lot to get through.  This could go on for ten years getting over a loved one.  That is the other challenge.  There are no rules on how to grieve, and everybody does it all completely different.  So this is what people are seeing … what I think is Patrick’s process.

OK, so what do you think about Julie Marie Berman?

JASON:  I love Julie.  I have said for years she is one of the best on this show.  You don’t have to look anywhere else.  You are in a scene with her and I know that there are moments that I need to reconnect, and I know if I just look at her I get it back.  I know that.  If I am in a scene and I have to look at her in the eyes, boom!  I am connected back instantly.  And that is wonderful trait to have in an acting partner.  I had that with Kimberly McCullough for so long, because I knew she was there.  Once Kimberly was on the set, she was there.  Julie is the same way.  She cares about it, and working with Julie more would be great!

Right, so the set-up would be: Robin trundles back to Port Charles alive and Patrick is now heavily involved with Lulu!

JASON: Yeah right … the next year!  I miss Kimberly all the time.  Whether it’s just Kimberly in her dressing room hanging out, or on set where I tell her, “I don’t know what to do with this scene.”   That help me type stuff.  I got so much out of our relationship and friendship.  I miss that, but I am enjoying a different part of Patrick.  He is kind of treading waters with no limbs, realistically.  He is kind of bobbing around with nowhere to go, and I kind of like that.  It’s been fun to explore.  I probably will get flack for saying this from a lot of people, but I don’t want Robin to come back too soon.  I think it’s a better story if he moves on and she comes back and blows his mind!  To me, we need some distance from that in order for it to have an impact later.

Where do you think Robin is?   Who has her, Jason?

Courtesy/ABC

JASON: She’s dead! (Laughs) To Patrick, she is gone.  No one here ever told me who had her.  I have not asked and I have not paid attention to that.  When they asked me about it I walked in the other direction, because I had to play the fact that she was gone and I don’t want anything else in my head like, “Oh, she is really with a nurse!”  OK Michael, I will say this.  I know she is with a nurse.  And, she is screaming for somebody. (Laughs)

So soapers after reading Jason’s comments, what do you want to see happen for Patrick?  New love with Lulu?  Robin to return sooner than later?  And, where would you like to see the good docs drug dependency go?  Do you want it to continue?  Or, do you want it to end?  Let us know your thoughts!

I want Robin back later, no drug addiction for Patrick-he’s a doctor and father. A relationship with Lulu…….I just don’t know, like her and Dante. The couples on GH need to be happy for awhile and stay together such as Patrick & Robin. They had issues but worked them out-That’s what I’m talking about!

I prefer Robin back sooner. Scrubs belong together.

absolutely. robin and patrick were unique on GH and on soaps — a real, natural, lasting couple. kimberly mccullough is such an asset to the show — more so than jason thompson, although i adore him. with kimberly, we have such a deep and rich history. her parents are GH icons. SHE is an icon. she had THREE super couple pairings. she grew up on the show. she’s a great actress. we all need her back. and i think jason thompson needs her, although he’s enjoying the independence. truth is, none of my friends (i watch with 7-8 people) like his drup storyline. we fast forward through patrick’s scenes, although we were riveted by his “robin exit” storyline.

as for patrick and lulu, HELL NO. lulu had best chemistry with johnny. she’s boring with dante and would be boring with patrick.

i have an intriguing option: patrick and alexis!!!!!

I want Robin to return becouse i love patrick and Robin together and i want to see her come back soont the show is not the same without and patrick is not the same eather

I am LOVING Patrick and Jason’s portrayal as a drug abuser was spot on! He is an amazing actor. GH and the fans are fortunate to have such a talented actor. I can’t wait to see where this story goes!

Patrick & Lulu…too soon. I agree with Jason that it could take years before he could even think of moving on. Also, I like Lulu with Dante and/or Johnny. But I agree the chemistry between them during the “intervention” was fantastic.

Thank you Michael for another great interview. You’re the best!

Right i understand what Jason said about Julie on their scenes..it is called chemistry and they had it on these intervention scenes..now i liked Scrubs but they had the rare chance for a soap couple to be together for a long time, let’s see how Patrick can move on..Lulu why not, the chemistry seems to be there..however she was cute with Johnny (who has chemistry with almost everybody by the way)..Dante well their couple is boring i have to admit..so a little Patrick/Lulu story before Robin comes back could be great, add that the addiction problems..could be great storylines for Jay Thompson..

My thoughts about Patrick being on drugs is a great story line and would love to see Dr Noah Drake back and Robin come back. These are the only two people that can help him get through it. I am a huge Rick Springfield fan and I am friends with alot of RS fans who would love to see this happen. I would not like to see Patrick with LuLu at all. I would love to see Patrick stay with Robin!! Please bring back Noah and Robin they are in demand!!!!

I agree ,Hell no for Patrick and Lulu !!! Do not destroy this couple Bring back robin. Please Kimberly McCullough come back to GH and stay.I have been watching GH for 35 years now and love the show,I have watched a few others over the years and I have to say Patrick and Robin are that 1 great power couple, one great love on a soap. They always have all the characters sleep with everyone on the show, musical partners and it is gross but people like it but they also want that one magical romance don’t kill that. Patrick and Ronin For me and a lot of other fans.

Patrick and robin not Ronin.lol

I want to see Patrick really miss Robin for much longer and the drug problem makes good drama. Just what soaps are all about. Don’t you think?
I hate it when a character loses the love of their life and one month later they’ve moved on. Very unrealistic!! Much like Starr is already over moon for Michael. What happened to her undying love for Cole. Love GH right now and love Anthony Geary.

Ummm….Lulu is MARRIED and Lante have a huge fanbase. So would the idea be for faux widower Patrick to be a homewrecker???

Robin is alive and doesn’t deserve to come back to Patrick and another woman. For once Patrick should suck it up and believe Robin is alive and not give up on it.

His phenomenal acting really deserves an Emmy. I have never seen him like the way he has portrayed the loss of Robin. His face, his color, everything ripped me apart. He is great acting like someone on drugs. I really hope he receives the Emmy next year. He deserves it.

Jason is an astounding actor and needs to be recognized for his work with an award.

I love seeing Jason portray Patrick right now, and I would love to see him to finally understand the connection between him and Robin. Knowing that she’s alive would be a good start. Their connection is so strong that I want Patrick to start feeling like she’s alive, even though he thinks he’s on drugs. But once he’s off, he can still feel she’s out there. That’s interesting to me. You can play that for a long time. Patrick trying to move on but his heart is telling him that no you can’t because Robin needs you and she’s out there and needs your help.

Thanks Michael for another wonderful interview with Jason, Love every interview you get from the actors. As for Lulu and Patrick, that’s more of a brother-sister relationship for me. Lulu being the sister trying to help Patrick through his grief, I think lulu has more issues with Dante and Johnny at the moment she doesn’t need anymore with Patrick, but just a friend. I think Patrick needs his friends and family right now. Not a female interest unless she’s a friend and that’s all.

As much as I would LOVE to see Robin back…I think Jason is right. There needs to be distance for the impact. She shouldn’t come back too soon. This will also allow Tristan Rogers to have time to finish up with Y&R and come back to GH to rescue Robin with Anna. I think it would be really dramatic for Patrick to be in a relationship with LuLu when Robin comes back. That’s what soaps are all about! The drama! I’d watch!

I agree : DRAMA DRAMA imagine if Lulu is pregnant but Robin the soulmate is alive..DRAMA DRAMA !

Robert can come back for a visit and save his daughter but Tristan is great as a villain Colin on y&r, he has to stay on the CBS soap, he can come back on GH for visits, moreover me thinks Tristan has more fun playing Colin now

Yes but if you have Patrick fall for someone else when he was a dog until Robin and now he can fall for someone else so easy I think people will start to dislike him ,I know I would, the way I see that couple is he would never commit to anyone, maybe become that dog again but not commit.

ROBIN is the ONLY one I want to see Patrick with. Don’t want to see Patrick move on to Lulu, Maxie or anyone but want to see Patrick deep connection to Robin and wait for Robin. Moving Patrick on, then Robin comes back, is too predictable on soaps and has even been done on GH with the spouse returning to find their spouse moved on. After Leyla & Lisa(just recently), I am not interested in another woman for Patrick AGAIN. Robin is suffering so Patrick moves on is not what I want to see. Patrick dealing with drugs while thinking Robin is alive is enough story. I would like to see the connection so strong that Patrick doesn’t give up on Robin being alive. Really disappointed in the comment by Jason Thompson.

I am very sad that this actor would make such a comment regarding the return of ROBIN. I find it amazing that the great chemistry that they had would be delayed . To be very honest watching him is not my plan and after this with respect to him good luck.Kimberly, was scrubs and her acting made them scrubs imo. Also the character LOU LOU AND THE PATRICK CHARACTER HAVE ZERO CHEMISTRY. SOMETIMES A FAN HAS TO WONDER ?

come on it is a soap..Patrick can love forever Robin but also having again a life come on..even in real life most of the time it happens, doesn’t mean the love on is forgotten, on the contrary actually and finally when she will come back..DRAMA and story !

yes the Lisa thing was it for Patrick and showed him Robin is and will only be the one for him

Lu/Dante are soul-mates and they belong together They are a forever couple. Patrick belongs with Robin no one else

I would like to Patrick with Elizabeth and her helping him get though the drug problem and the two of them falling i n love if Robin can’t come back to stay.

JUST NO to Liz. Robin doesn’t deserve to come back to Liz or anyone.

well Liz..why not, is the chemistry strong between the actors ? I ask i did not watch their scenes, i saw the Lulu/Patrick scenes and they had the chemistry..for making a couple interesting chemistry between actors is the number 1 element..i know that Liz has strong chemistry with Jason..but if she has ‘IT’ with Pat i am not against it..

Patrick should be searching for his wife. Lulu can go screw Johnny.

Stop trying to push Lulu off on Patrick. Patrick has a wife & JT/JMB have no connection & no chemistry.

AGREE. enjoying working with an actor is very different from having chemistry with them. patrick and lulu??? um, no.

Chemistry is the attraction and connection you can see between the actors on-screen

Your right about that.

Why are you pushing Patrick/Lulu? Lulu is MARRIED to Dante and has never shown any interesting in Patrick. Doesn’t GH have enough misery with JaSam/McBam/Liason? Let’s not destroy a happily married couple. Bring in someone new for Patrick, or match him up with Maxie. Just leave Lulu out of any romantic entanglements with Patrick. They work better as brother/sister.

Of course I don’t want to see Patrick with Lulu, never even crossed my mind.

The intervention had a wonderful team work quality between JT, JMB, and JL. I got more of a brother/sister vibe between JMB and JT that could be built on due to Lulu’s past dealings with Luke and Lucky and their respective addictions. As for a romance, I’d like to see Liz maybe put into Patricks orbit and I confess I adore Lulu and Dante as a pairing.

ROBIN IS ALIVE and I don’t want to see Liz near ROBIN’s husband or child. Liz can go to Jason or Ewen or Lucky. Liz had enough men and always after others men.

Patrick needs time to mourn Robin and shouldn’t jump into another relationship, however it is a soap so that probably won’t happen. However, Lulu is happily married to Dante and this Johnny stuff is just something that will be over soon. I don’t see Patrick as a homewrecker, considering what he went through with Lisa. You want soapy goodness? Pair him with Maxie!

problem : he has more chemistry with Lulu than with Maxie

Patrick and Lulu??? Are we kidding? Michael, please. For Heavens sake, Lulu is a HAPPILY, MARRIED woman. It’s enough us poor Lante fans have to deal with the contrived, plot point writing that is Johnny. Why is it that anytime a male and female have scenes people start pimping them as a couple? Geesh.

AND Patrick’s wife Robin is alive. She was shown calling for her husband and child. How cruel to move him on. POOR ROBIN!

I like Patrick, I think he is a wonderful character and Jason has been doing phenomenal work but I DO NOT WANT PATRICK AND LULU TOGETHER!

Dante and Lulu are married and they are soul mates!

SCRUBS!! Bring KMc back and give her something to DO, instead of getting diseases, getting cheated on, or getting stalked!!! She was wasted for the past TWO YEARS on this show. Reunite Scrubs happily before the show is canned, please.

ITA about Kimberly

Signs seem to indicate a Johnny and Lulu tryst. Though I do believe (IMO) Patrick will kiss Lulu at the Haunted Star opening thinking it’s Robin, ultimately, Lulu will be getting frisky with Johnny, as per the summer promo video (if I was seeing things correctly in that millisecond clip).

I do think however Lulu, with her familial history with addictions, hooking up with Patrick when she knows he is entangled in one as well, would be so inconsistent with her character (not that I follow her’s all too closely, but I saw her and how she responded to Lucky’s addiction in ’07 and Luke’s last year, it just wouldn’t make much sense). She’s more level headed than to get involved with someone in such a deep abyss he’s using a substance to numb his grief and pain.

Then again, I hardly care who Patrick is paired with between now and whenever JT leaves (whenever that will be) because the truth is, whether it be Liz, Lulu, a newbie chick whoever, the minute Robin is found, there isn’t a doubt in my mind who he’ll be running to. And in the end, that’s all I care about.

As for the interview itself, I gotta say, Jason was talking in tongues….A LOT. I could barely follow much of what he was saying. To be perfectly honest, there were a few of his answers I don’t understand at all even after reading them 3 times.

Lastly, that first picture of JT. OY! His hair! What did he do????

What’s with the need to pair Patrick up with anyone? Just because a character has scenes with someone of the opposite sex doesn’t mean they have to hook up! If that were the case then Epiphany would be mother to his 2nd child by now!! Let him grieve, deal with his destructive habit and focus on his daughter. After a while he could have a special connection with someone unattached (Maxie gets my vote) but ultimately his heart should always belong to Robin. There was a great brother /sister connection with Lulu and that’s it. She wasn’t taking any excuses, like a family member would act. Besides, Mrs. Falconeri is also very much in love with her husband and as she said in her wedding vows it’s for eternity!! I would however like for Lulu to make Dante aware of Patrick’s addiction because I would love to see a Patrick/Dante bromance! lol! Not enough friendships on GH!

michael, please no! don’t push patrick and lulu. kimberly mccullough was on the show for 20+ years; let her amazing body of work and the progression of her character be respected. a love like that is not easily forgotten — and certainly not by patrick. let him actually grieve. no pairing, only scrubs. bring kimberly back ASAP.

Patrick and Lulu? Oh sure, why not, GH doesn’t care about showing happy, committed, in-love couples they just want to play “musical couples”, change partners and dance. I miss the days of the “supercouples”, the “do-or-die” couples who you just KNEW belonged together. They were so much fun to root for, and they didn’t need to jump into bed with someone else in order to have conflict. Conflict often came from outside sources. I don’t want to see Anna&Luke, John&Sam, Todd&Carly or Patrick&Lulu. All these people are much better paired with the ONE person we all know they belong with. But tptb won’t listen. And that’s why people are tuning out in droves.

MaddieHayes, I totally agree! I just wished FV/RC would listen!

Robin IS Patrick’s other half. She is his heart and his partner in life. I prefer he begin to move on as a SINGLE father who is struggling to find his way. Kimberly & Jason created an INCREDIBLE duo and, in my opinion, as long as WE know Robin is alive, Patrick will NOT be accepted with anyone else by most fans. If GH wanted us to move on from Scrubs, they made a HUGE mistake by telling us Robin is ALIVE. That decision completely turns me away from any other pairing for Jason/”Patrick”. I am sorry, but I am forever a Scrubs fan! If I even THOUGHT Robin was gone forever, I could deal with the character creating a new romance. Telling me she is alive makes that impossible for me to accept. This is SO MUCH for Jason & “Patrick” to do without falling in love again. I believe GH is prepping us for a story similar to “Rex & Gigi” on OLTL. Just my opinion

Could be, I didn’t see that. Most of GH storylines are old OLTL. I’ve seen them once don’t care to watch again.

I agree it was a huge mistake to show the audience that Robin is still alive. It would have had much more impact, if and when she comes back, if we didn’t know. That way it would have been acceptable for Scrubs fans to let Patrick find someone new and move on with his life.

i quite agree but at the same time it give hope..lol however i am not sure that Kim want to come back as a permanent cast member therefore it should not forbid Jason to have stories and in a soap without a love interest..you don’t work much..

Uncle Mac never did

Scrubs all the way!! Patrick needs to see Robin @ hospital he goes to fpr his addition., and no one beluieves him she is alive. He gets better and proves to all his wife is alive. JT &KMc are best together.

The only woman I want to see Patrick with is Robin. They are soulmates! I think Jason Thompson has been knocking it out of the ballpark with his scenes since Robin’s death. The scene where he is getting dressed for the funeral and he imagines Robin fixing his tie should get him the Emmy next year – his perfomance was phenomenal ! I don’t recall a scene anywhere that showed such raw grief and devastation. I was just blown away!

Thanks for another wonderful interview with Jason! I’m glad to see him getting the recognition he so richly deserves!

Oh god the Patrick Lulu scenes were truly god awful, seriously someone screams like a banshee and someone cries and people think that equals good scene. Never approach a potential drug addict, especially you don’t know with that level of condescension and judgment. Patrick and Lulu are so unnatural in chemistry and story.

Agree

Um, yeah, Patrick and Lulu had friend chemistry, that’s it. As in, no romantic chemistry whatsoever. I could buy them as friends though. Why are you trying to pair Patrick up with Lulu when she’s a happily married woman? This is General Hospital not musical beds!

I have to agree with you on this subject, No way Patrick and Lulu, I don’t see it at all.

I always liked Robin!!

I totally agree.. No way should Patrick and Lulu have an affair. Patrick should somehow get to know that Robin is alive and they should be back together. They are awesome together. I believe their chemistry is the essence of GH

I predict that Jason will be nominated and get the Emmy next year now that Jonathan Jackson is no longer on the show.

Really Michael , what’s with the Patrick/Lulu pimping ? I’ll take Patrick/Epiphany first over Screaming Lulu/Patrick.

There’s enough story for Patrick with the addiction as a result of his ongoing grief over his wife. How would a lost soul , hooked-on-drugs , practically- cannot -live- without- the love -of -his- life-Patrick be a viable romantic interest with someone else right now ? The dude can’t even tuck his own shirt and comb his hair properly these days. But I do really like how JT is playing a druggie. Very realistic , and the combo with the underlying grief causing it is what makes this storyline heartbreaking. As a viewer ,knowing his wife is alive , you just want to hug him and tell him to hang on …your wife is alive !

The way Patrick is being portrayed right now , his only salvation is to know his wife is alive. To get his wife back is the only way he can get his life back as well.

I agree that Jason Thompson has been doing an incredible acting job in this story . This has been a complex story in which it seems we ALL seem to want to see Robin and Patrick happily reunited – I know I do. However, as well, many of us also want to see Dante and Lulu remain as the committed, honest, loving couple they are. What is said about Robin and Patrick being a unique, natural couple can also apply to Dante and Lulu. Yes, Dante and Lulu haven’t been together as long, but their almost 3-year relationship has been based on respect, honesty and emotional intimacy. Like Patrick and Robin, they bring a naturalness and believability to the screen – both as couples in love for keeps. My strong choice is to see BOTH couples – Patrick and Robin AND Dante and Lulu remain together as the soulmates they are. In spite of what some writers and viewers think, there is a significant element of the viewing population who want stable, loving couples … and who are are turned away by plot-point bed-hopping. So really, Scrubs and Lante fans have the same wishes in this story – and I wish us all well.

Now, to the specifics of Lulu sharing scenes with Patrick, I do think there was a important friend vibe in those scenes between a desperate Patrick and a calm, controlled, rational Lulu using her own family experience to try to help Patrick. I’m looking forward to more similar scenes; however, the story would be ruined for me if the writers decide to use the cheap trick of a romantic entanglement. I think I would turn my TV off for that story – for the sake of the integrity of both couples.

And, if I may add, I do think the interview erred in one major omission with the failure to acknowledge that Patrick is not the only one with a marriage and a significant love story. To be complete in even speculating about possible pairings, one needs to also acknowledge ALL the players involved. Otherwise, I fully understand the need to explore possibilities in forums like this one. Just keep the exploration complete.

Personally, I would love to see Patrick with someone new, but not Lulu. I was never a Robin fan…she was always too sanctimonious for me…so I’ll be ready for him to move on at some point. But please, don’t let it be Elizabeth. She’s too trampy for him.

I realize it’s not been long since Robin “died”, but this IS a soap and it lives in “soap time,” so everything is SORAS’d because we’d soon lose interest if every story played out in real time. I mean, really, how long do you want to watch someone grieving and moping around after losing someone? I got so bored with Michael’s moping after his girlfriend died (can’t think of her name…what does that say?) and Starr was driving me crazy with her anger and shouting all the time. So characters do need to move on quicker than people would.

Let’s get this straight Lulu who would have problems remembering to feed a cat who is married flirting with Johnny is going to help Patrick? Yikes hurry rewrite!!

Kay/Kay, Finally, I found you, Michael should really have a place to reply at all of the posts so I don’t have to search for someone then you go off topic on a different thread, I had a hard time finding you and wanted to make a comment about the post you left me and Susan m.

Yes I am a loyal fan of One life to live and I have to agree that I should have been put on their payroll, But it’s to late now, maybe in the future, hopefully. I was reading your post and you said that the last scene with Trevor st. john could have been a cut from the time when Allison had him tied up at that cabin, No you are not off base, I agree it could have happened that way I have thought about that myself.

LuLu? Lulu? I don’t see it. She is busy with Dante and Johnny. I see Patrick hooking up with Maxie, not Lulu!

Robin’s not a ghost! She’s alive! But where is she? Maybe Dr. David (AMC) has her! He’s the guy who brings back the dead!

Wouldn’t he be the perfect guy to show up in Port charles? I know I would love to see him, like you said he brings back dead people.

Why Lulu? What is/was wrong with Liz? The one Robin assigned to take care of him … seems like there’s more impact in that.

Grt SL for Patrick as long as it doesn’t turn into another JJ SL. No way on Pat n Lulu…Lulu’s character would never cheat on her husband. Lante needs to stick together and work out their issues like any other RL couple.
Pat only possibly with old Maxie not the new Maxie. But still way too soon..Pat heart is still with Robin.
Looking forward to Robins return as KM schedule allows.

Are you kidding I want him back with Robin and Emma

“I was glad that is was speed rather than tranquilizers!” This is incorrect. ADHD medication is NOT speed, as it is being portrayed. This is a factual error that perpetuates prejudice against ADHD patients as drug seeking addicts. Speed is methamphetamine. Adderall is a mixture of amphetamine salts, half of which are dextroamphetamine. Methyl and dextro are different, structurally and metabolically.

It’s disgusting how poorly FV/RC planned this storyline. Telling Thompson he is supposed to play a drug addict without telling him which drug? Then to select a routine ADHD drug instead of illicit meth is the height of irresponsibility, especially for a show based on a medical pretense.

The majority of patients take dextro daily without tolerance, addiction, or the extreme psychotic symptoms Patrick will display. This unresearched writing is simply promoting the worst possible stereotypes about ADHD patients. How about consulting with a licensed, board-certified medical practitioner when writing for a show in a medical setting?

“Well, I kind of hope his drug issue spirals more out of control where he might go to the streets and start slamming meth.” Seriously, Michael, that’s what you are hoping for? This is just a soap opera but does it really want to promote the misconception that ADHD medication leads to meth addiction, when there is no evidence supporting this, for the sake of “an amazing story to play.”

I want Patrick with Elizabeth

bring back robin

End Patrick’s drug addiction soon …before it spirals out of control.
And a romance with Lulu – I don’t see it.
She belongs with Dante.
Ultimately I want Robin to turn up and be reunited with Patrick and Emma.

At lot of good points being made here, but one thing we have to remember – as far as Patrick knows, Robin is dead. He’s got to find his way to putting one foot in front of the other without her, because in his mind she’s never coming back….

This is the “lone” story… that has me watching GH. I am still waiting… for a reunion… of Sam and her baby. that has to happen. I hope. I’m still in angst… torn… about, Patrick’s current state. He’s a lost soul… grieving… his flight plan is crashing. totally, lacks, helping himself. No family, friend, co-worker… has answers… a cure.

so many good posts. I certainly, hope… that, Patrick, thinks he’s kissing Robin… at the bar… and that’s all it leads to…. I don’t think he, and Lulu… are a match. Geez! you have to know… that, Dante and Lulu… are the only, happy couple… starring. it’s OK… they just got married… what’s wrong with couples being happily betrothed. IN LOVE. I think, Patrick.. answered to the audience… already… when he shared… “You have no idea what grief is. it takes all I can, to just get up everyday.” There’s no need for him to get involved… already. This was more than just any couple… we’re talking Robin McCullough… A daytime alumni… Veteran… “lol” famous Lineage… and the take under her wings… Jason.. who has risen in the ranks… and gives us stellar performances daily. Robin and Jason… have that chemistry, comaraderie, and dedication, to their craft… Acting.

As for,, knowing, that Robin is alive… I can accept that… I’m truly, enjoying… JT’s being given the opportunity to stretch his acting chops. This is emotionally compelling stuff… that I can see happening to people… who didn’t expect this to happen to them… Robin’s death, was an accident… taken too soon… from two very much in love people.

I loved Robin’s love story… sure, in today’s world… HIV, is manageable… tho, no cure…. Robin, was able to have her dream, ideal…. a marriage, a child… and that white picket fence. She worked as a doctor… her chosen profession… so, it’s even, more, heartfelt…. that GH fans… celebrate these two.

another poster… what if David Hayward, has her? now, this would be a serious coupe. Major. it would be serious tears… if Robin, did come back, and brought her husband, back to life….

I love JT’s take… on acting, his job.
She’s dead! (Laughs) To Patrick, she is gone. No one here ever told me who had her. I have not asked and I have not paid attention to that. When they asked me about it I walked in the other direction, because I had to play the fact that she was gone and I don’t want anything else in my head…

I can wait, with JT… as well… no speculating… the outcome… this is good.

i wish, the writers… would explore… two souls, finding each other… at least, exploring the potential, the possibilities… of two persons connecting. Sam and Patrick.

A drug addiction? Like that hasn’t been done enough. He’s a reason to watch the show… Let’s hope they don’t completely ruin him.

I been in Patrick’s shoes I lost my hubby after25 years being marry.he. Died in march2010. From liver failure. I have two kids to raise. Plus one is austic. I can’t even think about relationship yet. I think Patrick needs time to heal and get off pills for Emma. Just take one day at a time. I know maxi and lulu are trying to help but it’s wrong the way they are going about. I was crying the day they were bullying Patrick . I think it should be epiphany or dr ewen to help

No Patrick/Lulu, no Patrick and Maxie, or Elizabeth…Patrick belongs with Robin. There is plenty of story to play without throwing him at someone else.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
