"GL" drowning in troubled waters?

GL-Logo.jpgIs CBS shopping for a replacement for Guiding Light? TV Week has just run this article and now reports are surfacing about the lifespan of the on again and off again situation of the longest running soap. This time reportedly CBS VP Daytime President Barbara Bloom is developing in-house replacements.

Now we have learned that EW.com ran a item that the show will likely be cancelled by September when the sudser’s contract expires with the CBS Network.

Then Nelson Branco in today’s Nelson Ratings reported that the show needed to produce a 1.8 ratings by April to stave off cancellation. But the show only garnered a 1.5 last week. Thus signalling it’s cancellation.

Guiding Light has been delivering quality programming and exciting stories and the show has really made a terrific run at saving the soap.  We hate to make any further speculation, and hope this situation will become clearer in the days ahead.

Daytime Emmy winner, Jeff Branson is featured in a new drama coming your way on the new AppleTV+ platform.  Branson takes on the role of famous astronaut Neil Armstrong in For All Mankind.

In addition to Hunt, none other than Knots Landing and General Hospital favorite, Donna Mills is along for the comedy ride as Hunt’s mother.. Hunt and Mills first worked together on the defunct reality series, Queens of Drama.

Joining Hunt and Mills and rounding out the cast are: Robin Riker (Ex-B&B and GH), Sophia Gasca (Ballers), Christina DeRosa (Bad Moms), Scott Bailey (Ex -GL and currently, The Bay,) and Jason Earles (Hannah Montana).  Plus, Dyan Cannon plays Hunt’s aunt in Mood Swings.

According to the loglines for the series: “Newly divorced from her mega-successful, controlling and philandering husband Jonathan (Bailey), Farrah (Hunt) is awarded the couple’s Malibu mansion along with an enormous mortgage and minimal financial support to take care of herself and 8-year-old son Ryder. Recognizing she needs an income, yet having no work experience whatsoever, Farah decides to rent out rooms in her house in order to pay the bills. After placing an ad on Craigslist for female roommates, enter Coco (Riker), a disgruntled working woman; Dani (DeRosa), a fiery Canadian-Italian culinary wizard and hopeful Hollywood actress; and Emilia (Gasca), an enigmatic Dominican entrepreneur trying to get U.S. citizenship.  Farrah’s live-in not-so-handy handyman Angel (Earles) adds even more comedic moments to the show as he both struggles and enjoys being the only adult male in the household. While all the women come from different backgrounds and generations, they are brought together by unforeseen circumstances and what ensues is a wild and hysterical ride full of laughs.”

In a statement on the launch of the streaming series, Hunt expressed: “We felt there was a need for a great female ensemble comedy.  Right now, you can only watch reruns of shows like ‘Golden Girls’ and ‘Designing Women’ to enjoy a female-driven show. Our thinking was to embrace the legacy of these programs while adding a modern twist.”
