‘Good Trouble’ and ‘Cruel Summer’ Canceled by Freeform: Is it Time for GH to Resurrect Morgan Corinthos?
More cancellations have been handed out following the writers and actors strikes. Now comes word that the Disney-owned young adult-oriented cable channel, Freeform, pink-slipped two of its most-known series.
Good Trouble will now finish after the back-half of its upcoming fifth season. Executives in charge of the series wanted to give the writers and producers time to come up with more scenes for an extra-length series finale episode to finish up on a high note. The second half premieres on January 2nd.
Cruel Summer has been canned after two seasons. Both series were the last remaining scripted originals for the cable channel. The show featured two very familiar faces to daytime audiences: Sean Blakemore (Ex-Shawn Butler, General Hospital) and Lisa Yamada (Luna, The Bold and the Beautiful).

Photo: Freeform
The Fosters spinoff, Good Trouble followed the 20-something residents of the Los Angeles co-living space, The Coterie. One of the executive producers on the series and the current showrunner has been Joanna Johnson (ex-Caroline and Karen, The Bold and the Beautiful).
In what now will be Good Trouble’s final season, in story, and according to Deadline, “The roommates are set to face their toughest obstacles yet as they’re confronted with evolving relationship challenges and new career opportunities. Through highs and lows, romance and heartbreak, The Coterie crew will lean on each other while they navigate the next stage of adulthood.”
Former General Hospital favorite and Daytime Emmy-winner, Bryan Craig (ex-Morgan Corinthos) is one of the stars of the series. The question becomes with news of this cancellation, would GH finally entertain the notion of having Carly (Laura Wright) and Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) son, Morgan come back from the dead?

Photo: JPI
Could it be that Morgan never really died back in 2016 following a car bombing? Craig last appeared on the ABC daytime drama series back in 2018, when Morgan showed up in Ava Jerome’s (Maura West) dream. If anything could truly bring Carly and Sonny back together, might it be that the son that died and that caused a rift in their marriage (pre-Nina, of course), turned out to be alive?

Photo: JPI
Do you think General Hospital should work out a long term or short term deal for Bryan Craig to resurrect his signature soap role, if he is available? What about Sean Blakemore? He also won a Daytime Emmy for his work back in 2016 on the ABC soap. Back in early 2022, Blakemore announced he was departing GH citing “other obligations.” Should Shawn also makes his way back to Port Charles? As for Yamada, she is safely over at B&B in her new role as Luna, and as a love interest for RJ. Share your thoughts in the comment section.
Yes, I would be on board for that. Why? By reading the many comments on this site… It feels GH has many new viewer who are not “update” on the shows history… so sure, re- write his exit from 2016, as he was a fan favorite, and hopefully he’ll stay on longer this time..
Myself… been a viewer since a betamax arrived in my home back 1978.
Loved good trouble since the fosters ended. I hate that they are ending this sries
Good Trouble was over the day the main character left the show. Yeah, I get that she hadn’t seen her family in Australia since COVID, but that’s what the time off between seasons is for.
No need for Morgan right now. There are plenty of characters and story lines already in progress. Sonny is already involved in a bunch of stories. And “coming back from the dead” has been done to death, if you’ll pardon the expression. On the other hand, Shawn Butler might jump start Alexis since she and Gregory are in the friend zone. And he could play a role in getting Nikolas to return, since they have a complicated and unresolved history. But again, he’s not really needed at this specific moment, maybe after some of the current stories resolve.
We know the feb sweeps are happening meaning they need new plots bringing back those 2 would be awesome because we need new story lines for sonny and carly the main characters of the show plus new men for all the single ladies out there need to get rid of Nina she’s herself is not as charming as the last nina we had
Take into consideration
Bryan Craig may not want to return GH…….
Just because he’s free does not mean he wants to go back to GH..
I believe he does not want to return to a soap……
it would be a step down for him, he seems to be doing well doing what he’s doing..
I doubt he’d accept the pay he was getting and GH doesn’t have the budget to pay
what he is worth…. imo.
He only wanted back on General Hospital / daytime when he couldn’t land a primetime / film job, and was trying to beg to be hired somewhere.
You are insulting daytime and also assuming the actor was making tons more monies elsewhere. Take that into consideration
One way or another, Morgan Corinthos needs to be back in Port Charles. Other than Jason (who also needs to return) Morgan might be the only one who can wake his father up from this Tricky Dick Nixon Falls nightmare that he’s been living in for the past three years, despite supposedly getting his memory back.
With all these enemies running around right now, Sonny can’t be walking around with half his brain tied behind his back. And one of those enemies is literally sleeping in his bed, and he doesn’t even realize it.
Morgan Corinthos might return but…
not played by Bryan Craig
If that was to be I’d be OK with that..
They already had the opportunity for a Morgan recast with “Dex”. And apparently passed on that, unless you want to go with the outrageous idea that somebody would hate Sonny & Carly enough to program their son to bang his own little sister.
Nina is truly in love with Sonny….and Nina simply reported Carly for committing a federal crime, ——-dirty deeds Carly had Drew do her time the same as Carly had Jason take all the blame for all her dirty deeds.
No matter, from day one, the game has been Carly and Sonny back together for their 4-5 wedding…Waite for it—
And Nina and Valentin are the end game..
Nina doesn’t need an endgame. She just needs to end.
My dog Cerberus could use a new chew toy for Xmas.
Yes I do
No. Morgan can stay dead, especially where Bryan Craig is concerned. His behaviour towards fans and daytime, as a whole, still leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Sean Blakemore, however, would be a warm welcome back into General Hospital. Shawn’s tenure was way too short last go’round!
Yes, bring Morgan back and Sean back! It would be awesome to have them both back on GH! Morgan could take over Sonny’s business down the line. Sean is such a a good enforcer and could also work for Sonny!
This is why I was thinking “Dex” was a facially-reconstructed Morgan recast, until they made that problematic by hooking him up with Josslyn. As an aging “coffee importer”, Sonny has to be thinking about who he trains to take over the business. He’s tried to keep his kids out of it, but with Jason still “missing” there’s not really any other option. If Dex had turned out to be Morgan, at least he would have had some “on the job training”… though I don’t think he’s all that good at the job honestly. Most of the problems Sonny’s currently dealing with would have been noticed months ago if Jason were on the job.
Sean Blakemore should return as his character Shawn and become a new love interest for Ava Jerome.
Morgan should only return in the (hopefully long off) case of the show being cancelled. Sonny has too many kids on the canvas. If Michael wasn’t a Q, I’d be up for swapping his boring character for Morgan – but no. Dante, Michael, Kristina on contract are quite enough for now. If the sticks around for another decade, with Avery and Donna aging, it becomes “All My Corinthos”.
Blakemore is a fine actor, but they didn’t write for Shawn last time. A short term return might be fine (exploring some conflict with Marshall for Shawn killing Tommy). There has to be a long term arc if they bring him back fulll time.
Agree — but I do want Morgan back at GH. Fingers crossed; he isn’t Sonny’s son. (Come on! At this point, Nick Cannon has nothing on Sonny Corinthos!)
I personally feel like they have waited to long to bring Morgan back.. I think they need to bring Lucky back regardless of who plays him because they destroyed his character. Lucky would never have abandoned his children and no face-time is not count. This is why Cam had a hard time with Franco all he knew was men never stayed around, they need to get Lucky back fighting for his relationship with his sons before they ever trying to give him a love interest. If JJ won’t come back I think Daniel Clark would make a great Lucky.
One of Laura’s children needs to be on full time in 2024. Nikolas adds the most value to the canvas, Lulu, if written correctly (and played by Julie Berman) could add much drama. Lucky may be interesting, but being gone so long would be the longshot on returning.
GH definitely needs to bring back the Spencers, but I’m not sure it would have the same impact if it were all recasts. They do need to fix Lucky’s character from that crying, pill popping, abandoned his family on Xmas Eve mess that Garin Wolf turned him into in 2011, and his brief return in 2015 didn’t help much, because that was drowned out by the ridiculousness of Luke’s “exit storyline” and to a lesser degree, making Lucky an accomplice in Elizabeth’s attempt to keep Jason’s identity a secret… and of course he turned out not to be Jason anyway.
If it’s not Jonathan Jackson in the role though, I don’t think any such “redemption” of the character would seem authentic. Daniel Clark?? As in Degrassi High? Not sure about that one. Should they bring in Paige Michalchuck as the new Lulu too? (yes, we get Canadian TV in Hell)
Absolutely

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC
Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
