Is Bryan Dattilo The Next Cast Member To Exit DAYS?

By Michael Fairman

Within the last hour on Wednesday, fans and reporters took notice, and read a tweet that was posted by longtime Days of our Lives’ cast member, and enduring favorite, Bryan Dattilo (Lucas).

In his somewhat cryptic tweet, Bryan shared the following: “25 years. 2 months. 12 days. And 4 hours. Good run. Thanks to my Days family and fans. Enjoy Lucas while you can.”

Just back in April of this year, Dattilo celebrated his 25th anniversary with the series.

Does this tweet from Bryan mean he is gone from Salem? What would the show have mind that would take Lucas off the canvas if this turns out to be confirmed?

Various reports have surfaced that Dattilo’s exit may just mean that his character is being given a rest for now, but as we know in Salem life no one is really “dead” for good … are they?

Big rumor Matthew Ashford is returning to Days as Jack. He is alive. Lucas will leave with Chloe, that’s my prediction.

More implausible resurrections?!?!?! A staple of the current writing team as evidence where they have been previously. Weak trope on which to lean. I prefer moving forward with story not revising the history. Very sorry to see Mr. Dattilo go.

Im tired of characters being killed off and suddenly brought back from the dead..no wonder Hollywood and many people do not take soaps seriously…i watch the UK soap Coronation Street…characters stay dead and they allow children to grow up naturally and dont age them over night!!!

Really??? That would be great! Jennifer only works best with Jack, and Eric needs someone he can be shirtless with and have sex scenes with! That man is too hot to be with someone like that.

Do you think that terrible unkempt, grizzly beard is also hot? Seriously, from where I sit, I wouldn’t want that anywhere near me. To each his or her own, I guess.

If true, Ashford better not gain 5 lbs. as the writer will probably insert weight jokes and kill the character off permanently a year later.

AJ 🙁

God i hope that Matthew Ashford isnt returning. He is never utlized outside of Jennifer then they ultimatelt reunite, THEN WHAT? zzzzzzzzzzz he has no sizzle with anyone and this would be a waste. With Lucas, Will is still on the canvas and you have Sami and Nicole coming back. Keep bryan dattilo!

Hire Bryan on Y&R, as Chance Nina’s son.

Good idea, although I liked the previous Chance, but he could also be Phillip Jr.who might turn out to be Jack’s half brother.

Jack and Jennifer are SO BORING! I would rather them resurrect Peter Blake DiMera! Rehire Jason Brooks or recast with Michael Muhuney! I would watch Peter and Jennifer! Or rather yet, bring Jack back and do Jack/Peter/Jennifer again!

He can run off with Chloe. Isn’t she being written out? I want to see a very happy ending for Lucas. He deserves that much.

I always hate to see an actor lose their job. Unfortunately, it seems to be the bad part of the business. With all of the recent announcements that Belle, Shawn, Sami, Nicole and others are coming back, the cast is too big to give everyone screen time. I thought Bryan did an amazing job when he thought Will died and with the alcoholic storyline, but since then, he has been nothing more than background story. I could name a few others I would like to see go if the show is not going to write for them (i.e. Adrienne, Roman). I would like to see Theo and Stephanie come back. Theo would add a lot to the Tripp/Claire/Ciara storyline and Stephanie would be a great fit with Abigail/Gabi.

He is making it sound so final—perhaps they are going to kill off the character– I hope not

It doesn’t surprise me. I like Lucas and enjoy Bryan’s performance. He broke my heart while grieving for Will and his relationship with Adrienne was so tender and sweet. In the time I’ve watched the show, I feel he’s been under utilized. He’s rarely on. That must be frustrating for him because TPTB are wasting a very strong actor.

In my opinion, the same can be said about Judi Evans. I think she is excellent; yet, you never see her.

A giant thank you to Bryan for the great work. I wish him the very best in his future.

I have only watched the show since 2013, since we lost OLTL and AMC, I just wanted a soap fix – I find the character of Lucas to be just a tad boring and to be honest some of the storylines are a tad draggy but then that’s a soap I guess.

I know what you mean Frank. I only starting watching in 2014. You don’t see so many characters for long periods of time. They have no storyline of their own and don’t interact with the other stories. I often forget about them. Lucas and Adrienne are prime examples. I think that’s just the way this show is produced.

Maybe I am getting old and the standard soap formulas wear thin but it does seem to me that ABC’s OLTL and All My Children were more compelling and that is not to suggest I dislike DOOL but it gets a little monotonous ~ and even I have kind of given up hope that the Agnes Nixon shows will see new life at this point but I admire those fans that say “never say never”….

The ReRon regime… slowly purging the cast of long time vets to make room for his newbies.

Yeah… a Devil’s seen this movie before. And GH still hasn’t recovered from it.

GH just keeps doubling down on all his mistakes and lame characters….makes for a pitifully mundane mix along with Valentini’s out-of-control penchant for bringing an endless parade of soap opera refugees into Port Charles….Hmmm…could Dattilo be next? He does have that requisite cookie-cutter “look” that snags actors roles time and time again over there. Perhaps he should take a lap or two around the GH parking lot….who knows? He just might grab a casting call! It has happened in the past, after all…

Dante recast, maybe? I could actually see Bryan as Sonny & Olivia’s kid.

@Satan……I was actually going to suggest that based upon Dattilo’s physical attributes, since he does bear some basic similarities to Zamprogna, but not being familiar with his DOOL character, I didn’t know if personality-wise this particular actor would be a good fit.

Their kid? Bryan’ 46 and Lisa (Olivia) is 48.

@DAYS – PLEASE @the bare minimum… give this guy recurring and/or first class guest status. Bryan Dattilo.. along with Ali Sweeney with his 25 year gold star .. carries

the cast PLUS production… ALL the actors he has ever worked… love his energy… HIS SENSE OF HUMOR.. his acting choice is on top

Lucas, My Man

his work at the start of your tenure… he roped us all in… he corralled his energies and gave a stand out ; outstanding ; performance. always has… WORKED HIS BEST STUFF

Lucas’ romance with Chloe is pretty lackluster so if those two were to leave town together it wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen in Salem.

agree Alan!`

What the hell? It wasn’t that long ago we were seeing Lucas just about every day. I thought it was great that Bryan was working more than he ever did in the past. This has to be some kind of gag or something. Lucas is still a very good character to have on the show.

It is good to see him every so often, but never really got vested with him. I am ready for Matt to come back. Go Ron!! Keep up the good work!!!

P.S. I am learning to like the new web site….

I hope he’s not leaving. I don’t want Chloe to leave either.

Bryan Dattilo is a very capable actor when given the right material as shown during the Will resurrection story. Unfortunately, most of the writing regimes never know what to do with Lucas. I always feel bad when they dump BD time and again. Fortunately, BD has shown in the past that when not on Days he is not too proud to work at anything, including manual labor to provide for his family.

Hope they can find a way to keep him around. Involve him more with Kate, a character who is always in the thick of things.

It wouldnt surprise me since he really doesnt have much of a story right now,Hey what ever happened to Vivian the last time we saw her she was tied to a bed and said you? I have a good idea who you is but why are they not showing it?It has been over two weeks now since we seen her.

Vivian had so much alcohol in her bloodstream that it’s taking Dr. Rolf’s magic serum two weeks to kick in!

I like Bryan, but Lucas never caught on with me this time around. Lucas IS a HORTON, so they better not kill him off. I’d like it if he went off with Chloe or ended up back with Sami (and we know that will end at some point off screen). Best wishes, Bryan!

Published

In a surprise move, coming a week after ABC unveiled its 2026-2027 fall television schedule, Grey’s Anatomy is getting a new spinoff co-created by the original series’ creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes.

The new untitled medical drama will be written and executive produced by Rhimes and Grey’s Anatomy showrunner/executive producer Meg Marinis under the Shondaland and 20th Television umbrella. In addition, long-running ‘Grey’s’ star Ellen Pompeo will also serve as an EP of the spinoff.

The upcoming new series will debut midseason in 2027. This will be the first of Grey’s franchise not set in urban city or West Coast locale. According to Deadline, the new “edgy drama is about a team at a rural West Texas medical center — the last chance for care before miles of nowhere.”

In a statement, Marinis shared, “I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe. This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved from Grey’s for more than two decades — all set in my home state of Texas. I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it.”

A NEW GROUP OF DOCTORS IN RURAL TEXAS

The Texas spinoff will feature a a new group of doctors, but there will be some connection to the OG Grey’s Anatomy and possibly to Debbie Allen’s character of Catherine Fox. The amount of episodes in the series order has not yet been determined. Previous Grey’s Anatomy spinoffs were the defunct Station 19 and Private Practice.

Previously, Grey’s Anatomy was renewed for its upcoming 23rd season while the amount of episodes is unclear.  The last two seasons the series produced 18 episodes.

It should also be noted, Grey’s Anatomy and the Texas spinoff would likely share a time period, which requires limited-run orders for both with Grey’s premiering in the fall, followed by the spinoff on the midseason programming block.

So, what do you think about a Texas spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy coming in 2027? Who would you like to see from daytime or primetime as some of the featured roles as new doctors? Put on your casting directors hat and let us know via the comment section below.
