Is Jeff Webber Coming Back To GH? If So, Who Should Play The Part?

There is much speculation, now more than ever, that General Hospital is bringing Dr. Jeff Webber (the role made famous by Richard Dean Anderson) back to the canvas after decades!

With the storyline heating that it has been revealed that Jeff had an extramarital affair, and is the father to Hayden (Rebecca Budig) although he doesn’t know it, coupled with the fact that his daughter Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) will soon find out she has a half-sister, it seems like the perfect time to bring him back to Port Charles.

Now according to SOD, GH has sent out a casting call with the following requirements that sounds much like it could be a mature Dr. Webber.  The description says  “actor 50’s-early 60’s,  caucasian, handsome, dynamic, charismatic for a “major recurring role”’.

Richard Dean Anderson originated the role and played it from 1976-1981.  Andwerson later went on to star on primetime’s original MacGyver series.

So, who would like to see play the role of Jeff Webber?  Put your casting director hats on and send us your picks in the comment section below!

Robert Newman would make a good Jeff!!!

Robert Newman would be a top pick of mine. My other top pick is John Wesley Shipp. He was great back in the day on Guiding Light and most recently as the evil Eddie Ford on OLTL. He’s currently on The Flash on CW so not sure he’s available. Also Walt Wiley would be great.

John would be a good Raymond Berlin-Hayden’s crooked daddy!!!

He was killed off on The Flash.

You know it’s probably going to be Wiley because of the AMC connection with RB. But I didn’t like the way he delivered lines! Still holding out for RDA, though unlikely to happen!

I don’t know if John will be in the upcoming season of THE FLASH but his Earth 2 character Jay (the Flash) Garrick is alive and running.

@jlh…John Wesley played the father of Flash.

I would love it to be Richard Dean Anderson!!

Grant Aleksander or Walt Willey.

One more idea – how about casting Bob Woods as Raymond Berlin!!!

Those are good choices especially Walt…

Yessssss Walt Willey

Clint Ritchie from OLTL. I love Bob Woods, but I think Clint has more of a presence that would resemble what we saw in Jeff Weber’s character. Walt Willey could also play the role well.

Oooh. Like the idea of GA.

Clint Richie passed aesy in 2009

Clint Richie died years ago. Nice thought to have him as Jeff though.

Yes, Toni….Walt would fit right in as Hayden’s daddy. Anna Stuart should have been hired to play Naomi, as well. All back together again.

Clint Ritchie is deceased.

Clint Richie passed away several years ago.

Hey Max — you know Clint Richie passed away several years ago, right?

Clint Ritchie died several years ago I am sorry to tell you. He would be great though-I’d rather see him as Raymond Berlin & see Bob Woods as Jeff Webber. I couldn’t really take Walt seriously for some reason. He doesn’t look right for either part.

Walt Willey would be great. He played Rebecca Budig’s (Hayden’s) father on All My Children. But Max Dadee, Clint Ritchie passed away back in 2009. He was awesome as Clint on OLTL though!

Grant Aleks an de r. Yes!!!

That is a good suggestion! He would be great!

Maybe they are casting Haydens father?-then i say Ron Raines for that role!!!

or Ronn Moss as Jeff…

Good lord….

Pass on Moss

Nooooo!

Eeeeeeewwww to Ronn Moss. Also, I thought Clint Ritchie was dead. I say Walt or Michael E. Knight

@jimh….I know people love to pick on Ronn Moss and his lack of acting chops, but in terms of possessing the right age, look and general demeanor, I think he could be the perfect person to portray Jeff, especially if this is not a long-lasting role and just a quick and dirty appearance to give current GH-ers a feeling for the character and his history.

Robert Newman has that surefire intensity and can real it in when it’s all about family

Wouldn’t mind RN.

I agree Patrick.

What about the original Jeff Webber? Richard Dean Anderson!

They should try for RDA but if not Newman would be great. What about Larry Bryggman from ATWT or Michael Knight? I know he was on Y & R but he would be a great actor .

RDA or no one. Figures everyone wants a recast with some ex AMC or OLTL actor. Yawn.

I would love to see Richard Dean Anderson reprise the of Dr. Jeff Weber

I agree totally! Bring back Richard Dean Anderson. It would be so good to see him reprise his role. It would be like old times again.. I think viewers like me who grew up watching GH would appreciate seeing the original actor in the role.

I agree!!!!!

Are Kale Browne or David Forsyth available? Jerry VerDorn?

Jerry would be a good Raymond Berlin if they have to introduce him…

Richard Dean Anderson bring him back he was a awesome actor.

Bradley Cole would be great in the part. He played Richard Winslow and Jeffrey O’Neill on GUIDING LIGHT and also had parts on All My Children and General Hospital years ago.

Richard Dean Anderson (only) choice

My vote goes out to Ron Raines if we can’t have RDA back in the part.

I know he is New York but who says he can’t rack up frequent flyer miles?

i like to see him as Haydens father…

There IS only ONE Jeff Webber – Richard Dean Anderson! Surely he can come back for this storyline. Imagine the ratings! And Heather would have a royal fit!!

I agree (Richard Dean Anderson)!

Richard Dean Anderson

I would love to RDA reprise his role on GH but if not him then Bob Woods or MEK as Jeff Webber would be awesome.

Richard Dean Anderson

Yes, I wonder if he was asked to come back and turned down the offer?
If he cannot come back, I vote for Michael Knight–he’s the right age and he’s a terrific actor.

Always liked MK!

Harry, you are a genius, great choice! They wasted him on Y&R!

I agree Harry!

Either him or John McCook

Yes. But he MUST rekindle his romance with Heather!!!!

More crazy Heather, please!!!

Yes!!!! More Heather.

I agree. I think it’s time Heather got a breath of fresh air so to speak

Maybe Susan Pratt could come back – at least for a little visit.

There is only one you in the real world.. In the soap world.. Anybody can play you.. And sometimes better than you play yourself.

Word, Daviestev1.

How about Steve Buschemi in a recast? Those teeth scream “Daytime!”

Absolutely, go with the original!! Love RDA!

I wish he would come back! But it will probably never happen.

Richard Dean Anderson hasn’t had an acting job since 2013 (according to IMDb), and I think that was just a guest star role, so I would think he would be happy to come back to GH…at least short term!

Drake Hogestyn

Drake???? Noooooo…….LOL.

No to Drake lol, he has a job on Days. I want Grant Alexander ex Phillip Guiding Light. Cast liz mother with Anna Stuart, Robin Strasser or Louise Sorel ex Vivian Days. Man I miss my madam on Days. Lol.

Hi Celia, I hope your ear infection is gone. I hope you feel better my friend.

@Claudio.
Thank you, Claudio.
Yes, my friend, I am fine.
Yes, Claudio….let’s leave Drake nicely tucked-in at Days. Lol. Later.

Sean Christian from Days ??

@James.
Hi, James,
Shawn is a good candidate; but, again, it’s the right-age thing. TPTB are being very specific about that.
I love Shawn..but he looks younger than his 50 years. It works for many actors/characters…..so, who knows, right?

WOW..glad to see that they are thinking of bringing him in since this whole twins separated deal has come up. Some of us remember the original but I think enough time has gone by that we will accept a new actor easily. WHY NOT use some of the actors from OLTL . TUC Watkins or Dan Gauthier.. would be good.

they are not twins, they just share a daddy in common.

They are way too young. Neither is in their early 60’s.

Tuc & Dan are both too young. I don’t know why they’re casting late fifties/early sixties. Jeff Webber is Monica’s age. It’s going to be awkward if he’s a lot younger than her. They will have to give the fans some scenes with the two of them. Michael E Knight is too young as well.

True enough.

Yes, true, Liz. But, does it really matter? LOL, I’ve given up. TPTB don’t even look at the age difference. Look at Gina Tognoni and Michael Graziadei ( Y&R’s Phyllis and Daniel)…… Mother and son, six years apart).

I think Michael Knight could pull it off just fine. JMO..

Please stop the OLTL insanity. I say Walt or MK!

Michael Knight would be a fun addition to GH

I agree!!

Richard Dean Anderson ONLY!!! Bring back Scott Reeves too – he was perfectly cast as his son – Steve [ Steven Lars] Webber – They LOOK so much like father/ son. Time he was paroled on good behavior! Olivia needs her man back! And GH needs Docs WE KNOW!!

I “heart” Scott Reeves. Hated when Steven Lars was written out. Legacy character, folks! So much potential here.

As for Jeff Webber… I would like someone like David Forsyth or his clone. Need boyish despite the age. Need a little rakish. And sexy!

Agree 100%

Scott Reevs is living in Nasville and still on Nashville…unless they wrote him out. Didn’t have a big part.

I dont see why a casting call even went out. Why not RDA? Same with Paul Hornsby. I love Richard Burgi BUT why wasnt Paul Satterfield rehired to play Paul Hornsby? Do the right thing this time and bring back the original actor!

Richard Burgi is better than Paul Satterfield ever was as Paul Hornsby. Sometimes a change is for the better.

I disagree. Paul was a better Paul. Richard is a first class actor who should have been casted as Raymond Berlin!

Paul Satterfield doesn’t act anymore. I had read that he gave his blessing to the recast (not that his blessing really mattered!!)

He may still be grieving the death (murder!) of his mother Priscilla Coolidge.
My sympathies to him. Maybe he doesn’t want to be in the spotlight anymore.

Paul Satterfield is no longer acting. I would love it if he was but he isn’t.

I didnt know he doesnt act anymore. When Burgi was brought on and shot Sonny, on a different website Paul Satterfield chimed in. Was it him? I dont know BUT he showed a lot of disappointment on how they were writing Paul! I agree.

Richard Bekins

OMG- I used to LOVE him as Jamie Frame on AW so many years ago. He still acts- I’ve seen him in NY plays and in small film roles. He was so good back in the day- he’d be great on GH!

Clayton Norcross would be good.

Why not Richard Dean Anderson?

I would like to see Richard Desn Anderson back but if not then Joe Lando or Steven Culp.

Love Joe Lando!

I,D LOVE 2 SEE RDA RETURN HOWEVER, THAT SEEMS ULIKELY!! MICHAEL KNIGHT IS AVAILABLE SINCE HE LEFT HIS ROLE ON THE Y&R ISN’T HE? I THINK THAT’S HIS NAME, HE PLAYED TAD MARTIN ON AMC!!

David Forsythe

DEFINITELY!!!!!!!!!!

Richard Dean Anderson! He IS in his 60s and he would be a great Jeff Webber!

The original Jeff Webber

Grant Alexander ex Philip Spaulding Guiding Light, would be terrific in the role of Jeff.

Agree. Wish RDA would come back but think Grant would be a good substitute. J Eddie Peck (ex Cole, YR) would be good if he’s not too young. What about Lucy’s real life husband Wayne Northrop (ex Roman, Days)?

Lol. Grant Aleksander is NOT in the same age league as Leslie charleson. Far too young! And far too young to be Elizabeth’s father. Elizabeth, despite her youthful glow is pushing 40.

Richard Dean Anderson…..just sayin

Totally agree!

Richard Dean Anderson, got really fat, and looks terrible. They are looking for someone, who is sexy and carasmatic. He does not look like that anymore, he is unrecognized able, these days, so it can’t be Richard Dean Anderson. I think that, Jerry Von deem, would be great. I also like Michael E Knight, he’s gorgeous, but I think, he’s too young

I agree Susan. I looked up recent pics of Richard. They said they’re casting 50s to 60s so Michael Knight would be good…think he’s in his 50s. Love Jerry…and Bob Woods too.

If you are going to bring back Jeff Webber- than bring back Jeff ( Richard Dean Anderson). Why are you fooling with recasting Legacy characters- especially since they are still alive.
By the way Jeff is 66 years old –not 50’s.
And Jeff Webber would never cheat on his wife to have Hayden be his child–so this whole storyline is totally unbelievable.
There are those of us who have watched a long time ..and we know the characters. All these rewrites are hurting the show–not helping.
Having characters doing things so – out of character–never makes a story believable or good.It only hurts the show.

If you want ratings for the show- try to use the original characters when possible.

Just like with Jake Webber. James Nigbor was perfect as Jake–because he was Jake! This new boy should of been used as maybe Danny or someone –because he does not have the characteristics of a child who has lived through what Jake went through. He is too happy- go -Lucky for a child who was 5 years with Helena and suffered trauma. This one doesn’t “act” like he would need therapy for stress- so why even have a therapist in the first place? James had the part down exactly right. He was ( and always will be) Stone – Cold’s son.

Boost the ratings- Keep the original actors for the characters as long as possible. Some are irreplaceable…because they are the show…they are the character. ( Steve, Audrey, Jessie, Lucille, Jeff, Liz and Jake, Tracy, Monica, Alan.Luke, Laura, Scott…the legacy characters.)

How can you say Jeff would not cheat on his wife, when Jeff’s wife hasn’t even been on screen once? Jeff simply moved to Carson City Nevada. Later we heard that Sarah and Elizabeth were his kids with his new wife but we don’t even know this new wife and mother of Sarah and Liz. Surely Jeff COULD have cheated on a character we’ve never met.

Anyone could cheat its a soap opera,

RIGHT on… about James Nigbor as the real Jake

this recast is just too darned cute…. their is nothing left to his character… end of story

IE: Richard Dean Anderson…. hasn’t he aged… “well”

just a little paunch in the gut… got it

otherwise… he LOOKS dag on yummed out

I wonder what posts think about Hayden’ mother…. ??? little to no interest?

RIGHT NOW…. i’m more jazzed that WE are getting Robin Mattson’ Heather

so… as most have called it… at the very minimum… and I mean minimum… Liz and Hayden will be 1/2 sisters… all this to prop the character of Hayden

I would think that the casting of Jeff Webber is going to be instrumental in what lies ahead … for these new foundling SISTAHS

the character of Hayden has gone so far south… with the dismal .. thank gosh… END of the tried too hard… Nicholas and Hayden…. bye bye

I hope it works out with Dr. Finn. seems like these two are at a crossroads any way… Finn and Hayden ???

I vote… RDA – Robert Newman – Ron Raines… and I love the idea that Bob woods returns as Raymond Berlin

I like first Jake when he was younger, I am the fan hoping that Jake is Lucky’s , and this young man is spunky like Lucky.

Good post Angel! The new Jake looks like he should be on the Brady Bunch!

I want to go outside and scream. GH does not know what it is. Since 1994, it has been about the mob and other character such as Anna, Scorpios, etc. That is what has been the show. It is NOT GH. So it seems foolish to me to try to bring two worlds together. Not going to work. Once in awhile they bring someone back for a few scenes to just claim to be GH. Changing name is out of question from articles I read. It would kill show. So bringing back a Dr Webber is silly. Too late.

Totally. That is why I stopped watching when the so called mob started taking over. It is totally a different show. The title of the show is General Hospital. It seems the hospital is used as an afterthought instead of the main focus. Like you said trying to mesh medicore with classic will be to much.

They’re showing more of the hospital…the killings, Liz/her current health crisis, Morgan’s sessions with Andre, Dr. Finn, Dr. Monroe (sp?), Dr. Brecht, Monica, Sabrina might get her job there…etc. i don’t want to watch hospital scenes the whole hour. I think the mix is fine…character’s homes, the outdoor cafe, the park, the bar…And the stories aren’t just about the mob Lulu and Dante, Nathan, Maxi, Griffin, Claudette, Nina, Franco, Jake and Sam the baby…none of these stories are about the mob.

I agree, Rebecca1. I’m enjoying the healthy mix of story lines. It’s reminiscent of the GH I grew up with in the 1970’s while at the same time including a bit of everything to keep it interesting.
As much as I love Maurice Benard and his character, Im so happy it’s no longer the Sonny and Jason show. Also enjoying Billy Miller as a new and improved version of Jason. My only request is for Jason and Sam to ditch all the black clothing. It’s getting a little “old”.

Lol Judith…ya, at least lighten them up for summer! I get the NY cool vibe…I wear a lot of black too. But then inspiration hits and I wear white and gasp…colors too! Oh well, at least they’re not wearing polka dots! 🙂

I agree, Rebecca. I live in SoCal and also wear alot of black too, so I understand. I also venture out sometimes. 🙂 It was such a nice surprise and so refreshing to see Sam in her off-white wedding dress (non-black clothing).

why not try and get mr.anderson i have not seen him in anything lately . they need to bring back real actors that was on the show instead of new ones that have no connection with the other actors

Grant Alekander!

Trevor St John as Jeff would be great.

I think he’s too young–he’s too close in age with both Rebecca’s who would be playing his daughters.

Trevor St. John is only 45 and could pass for late 30s.

Remember, he was Roger Howarth’s (Franco) replacement on OLTL…

They should offer this to Richard Dean Anderson since was the original Jeff Webber

The great soap star, Michael Knight. He can be suave, he can be a doctor, he can do comedy. As Tad on All My Children, he did it all and he comes with a huge fan base. He has left Y&R.

I agree–Michael Knight would be ideal. He has a great sense of humor and I could see him interacting well with Roger Howarth who also has a great sense of humor.

I have no idea what Jeff Webber is/was like ( did not watch then), Boka. But, I do KNOW Michael Knight. I will take him in any show in any capacity. As you say, he left Y&R.
Doctor Webber’s return should prove to be quite a surprise….good or bad? I suppose it depends on how one looks at it. Was he a good guy? Was he liked?
This will certainly be the shocker of a lifetime for many….namely, Elizabeth and Hayden.
Oh, that Hayden!! Ironically, the twist will be that she, whom most accuse of pushing Liz down the stairs, will be the one to save her life…..with her blood. Transfusion time, y’all!! Wow!! How original!!

Just google him-you are on a computer-lol-ok, seriously Jeff was first married to Monica who was in love with his brother Rick and Rick had an affair with Monica while he was married to Laura’s mom Leslie and while Monica was married to Alan Q the father of AJ and nuJasnooze-lol

Jeff was also once married to Heather in GHs good old days!!!!…if you could had seen the show back then…puts todays GH to shame!!!

@Jimh( leave it to beaver).
I’m sure of that, Jimmy. All the soaps were top-shelf-writing. Sad.

@Jimh.
Awwww, Jimmy. If I told you how lazy I am when it comes to looking up people, you wouldn’t believe me…..or maybe you would.
So, it sounds like the bed-hopping hasn’t changed much. Monica cheated on her husband? Who would have “thunk”. LOL

Jim (leave it to beaver ) Truer words were never spoken. In my opinion, GH was in its prime from the late seventies to approximately the early to mid eighties. After that I stopped watching completely until the 50th anniversary nurses ball. Even now I can take it or leave it. No matter what they do to it now, nothing will bring it back to the glory days

Yeah…i’ve gotten used to how lazy you are-lol…Yes, i agree from your other post that Anna Stuart should had played Naomi…i have been watching her on her first soap The Doctors when she was soooooo young and had long Cher hair!!!!

Well that’s the thing soapqueenforever…nothing brings back the “glory days” of the past in real life either. People who watched back then who are still watching now were ten, twenty, thirty years younger than they are today. So were the vets. A viewers perception is different when you’re nostalgic. It’s never going to be what it was…lots of memories are sentimental and wistful. People have passed, young characters have grown up…it’s just different. Gotta sort of look at it with fresh eyes…I bet some of the stories that people thought were great back then would be ripped apart on these boards now! And that’s not to say I don’t have my own nostalgia. It just is what it is…

Bob Woods or maybe Tuc Watkins, although maybe too young. Or maybe someone unemployed actor who needs a break. Wish it could be RDA but that’s not going to happen.

I loooove Tuc, NancyH. If Julian can be Sam’s father ( 9 years apart in real life….and so many others), Tuc as Jeff could be Liz’s father just as well.
Woods, I think, is also a great choice, Nancy. Besides, these are two guys everyone loves. But, there will be some ‘discontents’. Can’t say I blame them, though.

Robert S Woods

Love him! He is good in everything! And audiences love him–and really connect with him. He has a warmth about him.

Me. 🙂 I played Phillip Chancellor on The Young & The Restless….

That is a GREAT idea !!
Reach out to Frank Valenti

Would be great to have you back on either show!

What needs to happen is for them to bring Phillip back!

Would love to see you back on screen again!

Hi, Thom,
What are the chances of you coming back to Y&R? I wish you could/would…..and bring Chance back with you. LOL.
Love your art….I see it as “perception”. Stunning!!

In all likelihood Thom or his character will never return to Y&R, Celia.

The consensus was that once Phillip C. was revealed to be gay, Y&R quickly wrapped the storyline up because of negative fan reaction. He was a no show at his grandmother’s funeral even after Thom was said to have indicated that he was hoping Y&R would have him for a final goodbye to Mrs. C., but to no avail even after he contacted the execs.

Y&R is OK with hiring gay actors such as the ones who play Kevin and Michael as well as a few others including Thom, but Y&R refuses to have gay characters because huge groups of Y&R fans say no.

@4ever DAYS.
WOW! 4 ever…how archaic. I had no idea. I cannot believe that! People better wake ip to the 21st Century and grow a heart and some intellect.
I am somewhat confused, though. Was Mrs. C Phillip’s grandmother? I thought he was her husband’s son with Jill?
Later.

I’m sorry, Celia. I never realized Y&R rewrote what I referenced. At one point Jill was believed to be Mrs. C’s daughter.

@4ever DAYS.
Hey, 4ever….
Oh, yesh…you’re right. In that sense, yes. I remember the time when Jill was to ‘supposedly’ have been Mrs. C’s daughter.

That was one of the most botched, idiotic, poorly planned and executed debacle of a storyline that actually compromised the fabric of the entire show!! Thats why Phillip is rarely mentioned and will likely never be seen on the show again.

I’d have to agree with Robert Newman or Walt Willey.

I can’t see anybody else playing Jeff Webber than Richard Dean Anderson 🙂

I think timothy hutton or john schneider.

John is good but he would be too young looking next to Monica.

Many of the OLTL actors named are too young for the casting call except for Bob Woods. I think Grant Alexander is a wonderful choice too(not sure he’s that old either but he resembles RDA). All of the suggestions are wonderful though, great actors.

Hi, Deb,
Walt Willey ( Jackson Montgomery) played Rebecca Budig’s father on AMC. He is only a few years younger than Leslie Charleson. ‘Jackson’ was also married to Erica Kane ( Susan Lucci), who is older than he, as well.

Gregory Harrison from Rizzoli and Isles

Interesting idea…

Lane Davies. Miss his great acting as Mason Capwell on Santa Barbara. Scott Holmes from As The World Turns would be my second choice.

Lane!

Two excellent choices. Big fan of Scott.

Lane Davies was on contract with GH from 2002-2004. He played the late Dr. Cameron Lewis (Zander Smith’s father). It was GH’s failed attempt to reignite SANTA BARBARA’S Mason/Julia pairing with Cameron/Alexis.

Sounds like a winner to me1

Personally I’d like to have Richard Dean Anderson come back and play the part he originated.
That would make sense. But I’ve heard he is semi-retired from acting to spend time with his only child, and the last photos of him were not the most flattering……still.

I think GH is trying to set some kind of record for the size of a cast on one soap opera. I’m all for bringing back Jeff Webber, he’s a legacy character with ties to the current cast. Don’t care who plays him either, whether they bring back Richard Dean Anderson or a new actor. But how about trimming some of the unnecessary characters off the canvas? Instead of killing no name day players, we need Paul or whomever the GH Hospital Killer really is to go on a murder spree of some of the useless characters on this show, lol.

Jeff Webber??
I know nothing about a Jeff Webber, so not excited.
But– as for who to play him; Channing Tatum …
(I’d like that 😉

Ok, SuzieQ. We’re in the same boat. I’ll take Channing!!

Hey, su0000, so you love Channing Tatum also, Yummy!

You now it is only going to be short term so no reason not to bring back the original Jeff….Richard Dean Anderson.

Michael Knight would be a great choice or maybe Christopher Atkins.

John James from Dynasty and The Colby’s. He is close in age to RDA and they look somewhat alike. He was on ATWT for a few months and was great. I’m sure he would love the work.

John James occurred to me as well, tho it would be a hoot to have RDA back with Robin Mattson

robbie, I see what you mean about Brooke Bundy. Her scenes with Mary O’Brien (as Heather) were indeed interesting, particularly the infamous LSD iced tea switcheroo! Take care.

Or Gordon Thomson. How about Henry Czerny from “Revenge?” Maybe Jameson Parker….he was on OLTL when it was actually worth watching!

Is Richard Dean-Anderson that busy??? Really why don’t someone ask him to play the role he originated?! Duh..

While I like the idea of RDA, has anyone seen what he looks like today? It’s not pretty. Google him. Sadly, I’m all for a recast!

I know really

Still looks ok to me!

whew ! someone agrees with me…

I think he looks great… great skin… so he’s put on weight…

he looks like a Baldwin brother

plus… if … you google and look at the recent “pics”

I could swear.. he’s also the spitting image of B&B John McCook… RDA could paly his brother

Oh, Lordy Lord, Simon. I did just that…GOOGLED him. Triple WOW!!!!! He does not even look like the same guy!!!!! What the hey!!
Frankly, I had never heard of him. Now, I have been educated. LOL.

Robert Newman (ex-Joshua, GL), Michael E. Knight (ex-Tad, AMC; ex-Neville, Y&R) and Patrick Duffy (ex-Stephen, B&B, et. all) would be my top three choices of well-established, former soap actors that could qualify for this position, especially if we’re sticking to Robert Sean Anderson’s age bracket. And to those wondering why he may not come back, he’s stepped back from the spotlight to focus on his family, and it’s respectable.

Patrick would be an interesting choice seeing as he played Stephen Logan to Robin Riker’a Beth Logan on B&B.

Michael Knight or Robert Woods

Bring Anderson back. Would love to see him.

I loved grant Alexander when he was first on gl but then he fizzled out or maybe it was gl I don’t know but he just doesn’t thrill me. Dan gauthier is a dreamboat probably too young but he would be great to look at.

First choice: Richard Dean Anderson of course! He was one of the reasons I started watching GH in the first place.
Idea two: Bob Woods as Jeff with Jerry VerDorn as Mr Berlin
The other good idea was Walt Willey.

I like a lot of the other soap actors, but they are too young.

Oh, Jerry VerDorn would be fantastic as Raymond Berlin! I forgot all about him! Bob Woods as Jeff would be perfect. Bob looks enough like Hayden & Elizabeth-Walt Willey-No. Too tall & too blond (at least he used to be blond).

The ONLY person to play Jeff Webber should be Richard Dean Anderson.
He should at least be offered the part or considered. What a casting coo !!

Bradley Cole (formerly of Guiding Light).

Great idea, Brother! And in response to you about the original Rick Webber, Michael Gregory, thanks for Googling him. I think it would be enjoyable to see that cleft chin on the small screen again! 🙂 Take care, Jay!

In the hands of another head-writer this news would generate some excitement with me.

Instead, when I read this all I could think is Jean and Shelly are adding yet another character to the already extremely overcrowded canvas and like every other character they’ve introduced — Darby, Curtis, Andre, Nurse Amy, Finn, Aaron, Parker, Griffin, Claudette, Valentin — Jeff will most likely have no story arc in place (except to probably dote on newfound daughter and resident heroine Hayden/Rachel while giving Liz a time out for not recognizing how lucky she is to have such an amazing sister who is EVERYTHING).

As far as casting, I’d go with David Forsythe, Murray Bartlett, Matthew Ashford, or Mark Derwin.

Three cheers, for you, Alan!!!!!!! A Hayden fan; YEEESSSS!!!!

I don’t think he’s a Hayden fan CeeCee. If it’s any consolation I like her. Couldn’t stand her for most of her stint. She’s grown on me.

I have enjoyed reading everyone’s suggestions to recast Jeff Webber. Personally, I’d prefer RDA to reprise the role he originated. The article does not indicate if he has been contacted. No matter he should be asked. I don’t think he would want to come back to daytime if offered a contract. Thus the choice to recast. I loved many of the names so far. David Forsyth would be my choice. Walt Wiley, Michael E. Knight and Robert Newman are all great choices. Grant Aleksander is 57. As much as I loved GA as Phillip Spaulding I can’t see him as Jeff Webber.

Shout out to Thom Bierdz. So cool that an actor posts offering himself up for a role. IMDB indicates you would be too young for the part.

I think you should bring back Richard Dean Anderson, the original.

When the nominations were announced for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards earlier this week, General Hospital fans were thrilled to see Amanda Setton’s name as one of this year’s Outstanding Supporting Actress nominees.

It marks the first time in her career that she has ever been nominated. Setton has played Brook Lynn Quartermaine since 2019. Soap viewers first saw her in the role of Kimberly Andrews on One Life to Live during her run from 2009-2011.

Amanda received her Daytime Emmy nomination for her emotional turn as Brook Lynn learned she had been lied to by her mother, Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer) for years, after giving up her baby for adoption as a teen. Little did she know she had a secret son living with her this whole time at the Quartermaine mansion in Gio Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza).

During an exclusive conversation live on Tuesday night, July 14, during the Michael Fairman Channel’s annual Daytime Emmy Nominations Special, she discussed her reaction to the news, her nominated reel and her GH co-stars.

Setton explained how she found out she was a Emmy nominee! “Frank Valentini called me, our boss. It was such a beautiful moving moment. I’ve known Frank for 20 years and to share this with him, I’m indebted to him on a lot of levels. I was in the car with my husband. We were going for a hike. We got away for just a couple days, just the two of us. It was early in the morning and to share that moment with Frank, to share that moment with my husband, it was the best. We cried and I’m just so grateful.”

The Supporting Actress nominee shared what scenes she submitted: “My reel was obviously about the Gio storyline. It started with the scenes with Lulu (Alexa Havins) and shout out to Alexa! She’s the best. It’s when I first find out that she knows and that I had boy. Then, begging her not to tell Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and just to leave it alone, then into the scenes with Rena Sofer, shout out to her! She is the best. I love her. I spoke to her today. She deserved to also be nominated. They are the scenes right after I find out at the Nurses’ Ball, and right after Brooklyn finds out that Gio is her son, not her cousin. Then my reel ended with the scene with Gio in the kitchen when Brook Lynn’s first sees him after the Nurses’ Ball and she says, ‘We can work this out,’ and he’s like, ‘No, we can’t,” and he walks away. It was an amazing story and kudos to the writers.”

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SCENES

It is always important in the Emmy game to put together a submission, so that someone who doesn’t watch the show day to day, can grasp the story of what’s happening to your character. Setton explained how she went about assembling the choices for her scenes. “Between Michelle Henry (producer, GH) and Frank, they said, ‘You need to tell the story. Find the scenes that tell the story.” Once I did it was clear to all of us, the story has been told,” shared Amanda.

“Anyone who’s watching this reel can get a feel for the intensity of the story. I think after even the first scene where you’re just like, ‘Wait a minute! This girl had a baby? She didn’t know if it was a boy or girl?’ Now this nemesis of her wants to … ‘What’s happening? What’s going on? And then the mom knew the story? ‘ So by the end, your heart’s just broken for this girl.”

Initially, Amanda like the viewers were trying to figure out how GH would make sense of the story, where suddenly years later we find out Brook Lynn got pregnant at summer camp by Dante! Setton said, “Once they (the writers) started building it out and you saw all the different relationships playing out between her and her mother, her and Dante, her and Lulu, her and Gio, her and her husband Chase (Josh Swickard), even Tracy (Jane Elliot), and then the fallout of all of it, it just touched so many characters on the canvas. I think it was like a huge juicy burger for the fans to just take a big bite.”

AMANDA SETTON TALKS ON HER TV SON GIOVANNI MAZZA

In addition to Amanda, both Giovanni Mazza and Braedyn Bruner (Emma) landed their first ever nominations in the Emerging Talent category. Setton shared how she and Mazza have developed such a close bond.

“Gio and I are super close. Right from the start, we just hit it off.  He is such a delight. He’s so hardworking. He’s such an eager learner. He’s always looking to be better. He always wants to grow. That’s a huge testament to his work ethic,” explains Amanda. “He’s an amazing person, and over the last couple of years, we’ve had many deep conversations about work, about life, perspective, gratitude, values, a lot of different deep things. I could not be more thrilled for Gio and this moment for him. It is well deserved. He has worked so hard for it.  I really hope he wins. Although, I also love Braedyn!”

One of the most unforgettable moments of 2025 in the soaps is when Gio takes to the Nurses’ Ball stage after overhearing Lulu and Lois talk that he is the biological son of Brook Lynn and Dante. Ready to begin to play his violin, he smashes it pieces and storms off. Setton was in the scene and recalls, “That was wild. He did such a great job with that. That is not an easy moment to hit, pun intended. He nailed it.”

THE CONNECTION WITH JANE ELLIOT

On General Hospital, Brook Lynn is close with her ‘Granny,” the one and only Tracy Quartermaine, and in real life Amanda is very close with Jane Elliot, with whom she was able to share the news of her nomination. “First of all, this woman has become one of my closest friends.”

Amanda adds, I’m not exaggerating. I am confident to say she would say the same. We’ve become really close friends outside of work. We speak, almost every day.  We just went out to lunch last week. She’s become such a close person in my life over these last few years.  She’s such a leader. Jane’s a really special person in my life after my family. I wanted to share the news of this nomination with her and she was over the moon.”

HARD WORK PAID OFF

Getting a pat on the back from her peers is one of the more touching moments in Amanda’s career, as she explains: “I have to say we’re in the daytime world, so for us it feels so wonderful and so rich. But in the landscape of the entertainment industry, in daytime, we’re in the trenches. We work really hard. We have a ton of pages. We have a ton of really high stakes, dramatic work to try to do in a grounded, authentic way, continuously every day on television. Not that it’s thankless, because thank God we are employed actors on a network TV show, and we are also grateful. But, I’m not going to lie, and say it doesn’t feel good to just get a little ‘thank you’ or like a little, ‘I see your work.’ It feels fulfilling.”

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Tells Danny: ‘The Place They Were Holding Me Was Bad, Really Bad’

Published

What happened to Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) when he was captivity by the WSB? That is the question on many minds of General Hospital viewers, especially following the airing of the Tuesday, July 14 episode of the ABC daytime drama series, which also received a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards yesterday.

In story and in the pick-up of Monday’s episode, Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) comes face to face with his father at the Quartermaine boathouse. Jason assures his son that he is home for good. However, Jason is confused why the WSB suddenly released him from Jakarta in the last 48 hours.

Danny goes in on his father for taking the fall for Cullum’s shooting when it was Rocco who shot the now deceased WSB director. Jason tried to explain he had to make a last minute decision and didn’t want Rocco’s life to be ruined by shooting another man.

JASON WANTS TO TAKE A SHORT TRIP WITH DANNY

Jason promised Danny that from now on, he is his top priority, and that time away has given him a new perspective. When Danny tries to get more intel from his dad on what he went through, all Jason would say is, “The place they were holding me was bad, really bad.”

Danny admits that the person he told that Rocco shot Cullum was Port Charles bureau chief, Jack Brennan, but he told him that WSB would want Danny to drop the whole thing, and just leave it be now that Cullum is dead.

TRACY SEES JASON

Suddenly, Tracy (Jane Elliot) shows up and is happy to see that Jason has resurfaced saying she knew he would be back. As she welcomed him home, Jason has a favor to ask her.

Next, he proposes much to Danny’s happiness, that he and his son are going to away together for a few days to catch up on things. So, that there is no issue, Jason asks if Tracy can please tell Alexis that he has returned to Port Charles and anyone else that would need to know, so they are not concerned for Danny’s welfare and that they know he is with his dad. Tracy agrees, and she and Jason share a hug.

Now the question is, what happened to Jason? We know his face is beaten up. We saw in flashbacks he was held in a cell and we can see he had been experiencing what seems like PTSD from being in captivity.

Previously, GH co-head writer, Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten previewed to Soap Opera Digest on Jason’s return, “His imprisonment has had a profound effect on his outlook and how he intends to conduct the rest of his life. His decision will have big implications for Danny, Britt, the Quartermaines, Anna and especially Sonny.”

So, what do you think happened to Jason while being held by the WSB? Did something horrific occur? Will Jason tell Sonny he can no longer work for him so he no longer puts himself or his family in any kind of danger? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
