It's A Wrap For GH's Steve Burton! On His Final Tape Day He Tweets Message to Cast & Fans!
After wrapping up 21 years as Jason Morgan yesterday over at the set of General Hospital, Daytime Emmy winner and fan favorite, Steve Burton posted a short video on his Twitter account of him driving away from his ABC Studio, his former home away from home, an image of the cast and crew having Black T-Shirt Day in honor of Steve’s last episode, and a farewell parting shot which we have posted here.
In addition, Burton send out the following tweet to his fans and colleagues, “One of the toughest days I’ve had. I am truly blessed to have spent time w/the cast and crew of GH. Amazing people . I will deeply miss u.”
“To you: the fans, thank u for enriching my life. I am humbled by your love and support. I appreciate all that u do for me. ”
As well, cast mates, Nancy Lee Grahn, Haley Pullos, Rebecca Herbst, and John J. York, all took to Twitter to say their goodbyes as well, and as we have previously posted, so many others earlier in the day.
So, it’s a wrap for Burton. How do you feel now about his exit from the series? How do you think the show will write Jason off the canvas? Weigh-in!

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC
Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.

On the ‘run’
I’m pretty neutral on his leaving. Tired of Sonny, Jason and the mob. Would have liked for him to stay IF they would have done a return to Jason Quartermaine storyline.
I agree, enough of the mob.
ITA, The mob story is Over! They had many opportunities to bring back as Jason Q but they never succeeded. Also it isn’t Like he hasn’t left before. He Left in 2001 and came back about a year later. Even Sonny has left and come back.
Sick of the mob as well especially Sonny. I am not saying eliminate Sonny but give him less air time. He is not the heatthrob he used to be in years past. His love scenes make me want to vomit his acting has gotten so bad.
the problem with the mob story line is that they are no longer scary or threatening. How many times has Sonny pulled a gun on someone, only to put it away unused? When was the last time an enemy of his actually disappeared after he threatens to make it happen? The writers have made Sonny an impotent leader. Where’s the story lines where he does something terrible and the current love of his life has to decide if she can handle his lifestyle? Remember when there was a dispute on the docks and Carly (played by Sarah Brown) jumped right into it and called a strike using Sonny’s name? That’s what I want to see. More conflict and action with the mob instead of a bunch of empty threats.
sorry debi and vanessa but maurice benard and steve burton along with
tony geary are GH, the quatermaines are old news love them but they cannot
carry the show, with steve burton gone it will be a big loss for gh he is loved
by millions of fans including me. so sorry you feel that way but you are just 2 people and its your opinion.
Sorry Sarah but MILLIONS have silently spoken out about how much the mob, Sonny and Jason suck by turning off their televisions! GH used to be #1 and it’s never reached those heights under MB and SB. Sorry you can’t recognize that but your just one person with an opinion.
jr:

Did he take Sonny with him?
It’s a sad day for us fans, still hard to grasp. if this was hard for us (the fans) imagine what he must of felt. I don’t think he realized the magnitude or the impact he has made on GH. I only wish the best in his new journal, and here’s hoping that until the final curtain call for GH happens, he may yet again grace us with his presence.
This is a horrible & sad day. I wish Steve well! It will be sad for Carly & Sonny to not have their best friend. I will miss that so much. Get over the Mob thing people. It’s not even as bad as it was and HELLO it’s part of the canvas for years just like other soaps have even more ridiculous back ground stories. LOVE GH AND ITS THE BEST EVER RIGHT NOW!! Minus what they are doing to poor Dr Patrick with these horrid new Drs. & Nurse
I didn’t look at it this way…. nice post… especially… what with Carly and Sonny missing their best friend.
I’m sick of this “new” regurge story with Patrick…. the mousy cinderella with the “hot” feme fetale… so obvious… Dr. patrick doesn’t deserve this…. oye… it’s going nowhere fast. it’s a waste of good talent.
did elizabeth have something to do with the dna results? kinda took the thunder out of our sails… when Carly told Liz… get over it… Jason is not yours… LOL. and liz is still holding on to “nothing”.
i agree patrick jason will be missed and sonny will seek revenge and the mob
storyline will go on , heck he is great (maurice) by himself and those dimples
man women love them me too. patrick needs robin back asap
and dump duke lavery asap
Whatever they do,don’t kill him lol. He will ride off on that Motorcycle I’m thinking
sorry rod i think they may have today but hopefully he will return soon
will miss jason/steve burton he is and will always be the hero of the show
and save the day, gh will not be the same without him
I personally loved his character and feel he was central to most everything on GH. Thought his character showed strength, incredible loyalty, compassion…subtle humor, HOTNESS! ;)…took Spinelli in when he would have been mocked by most…
So for me his character is a great loss. Sad to see him go but wish him well in his future endeavors.
I agree …his character is a great loss to both Carly, Sonny and Sam storylines … I am so sad and depressed ….
yeah carly i feel the same way, great loss for GH and all the characters on the
canvas, he was our hero on gh
I hope they don’t kill him maybe he will just go somewhere to decide who he was to be with. that would Steve time to decide if he wants to come back or if someone is going to replace him. Whatever Steve decide I wish him the best of luck he is a fantastic actor and many people will miss him very much.
i think he will catch sam in bed with john or he will catch them saying i love you, thats what i think, they will never kill jason off because he is a golden boy and steve might come back in the future .
I think he needs to ride off in the sunset with the famous reindeer sweater on! Lol!
Makes me sad. Will miss the Jason character. :((
I am just scared that are actually goung to bring Sean Kanan in to try to be Jason, a definite huge mistake. cannot play romantic or tender, something Steve could switch to at a drop o
That would be really bad ……… you can’t recast someone after 21 years ….
Yes u can if the star won’t come back at all
I TOTALY AGREE THAT WOULD NOT BE WISE
What will it take for GH writers to listen to the fans when we say that we are tired of the mobster sl. I don’t watch it regularly anymore. Only from time to time, but when I do check in nothibg has changed – except they bring in more mobsters. Grow up already GH!
Such beautiful, touching words from a guy who plays a hitman. Love it. I hope he had a great day and that is future is just as blessed.
Best of luck to you Steve.
I HATE IT!!! I loved Steve Burton. I have watched this show since I was about 6 years old with my mom and I have always liked him. I loved that they were making his character more real and him and Sam together was amazing. I just really hope that he decides to come back. 🙁
I totally agree ! I have watched Jason since i was small like 4 and still watch. But Steve and Jason makes the show! When Jason is no longer on the show I will stop watching!!! If and when he comes back I will start watching again…..
I am tired of the Jason and Sonny haters. There has been no mob stuff lately. I will miss Steve Burton (Jason) so very much. I so wanted to see him with Sam one more time with their new baby. See Jason putting the baby in Sam’s arms and renewing their vows. The show will never be the same without him. I hope Steve will come back someday to GH. I am saddened by his departure. I am a huge fan of his. I wish him the best and hope to meet him one day. I so wanted Jason and Sam to be back together. I am sick of Elizabeth.
I agree completely!
I FEEL YA THEY NEE T GET OVER IT MOB STUFF IS ON THE BACK BURNER RIGHT NOW.AND MISS ELIZABETH HOME WRECKER WEBBER NEEDS TO GET OVER HER SELF.
Love always Steve you will be greatly missed ! Hope you return soon it won’t be the same gh. Boohoo please don’t go. Gosh I can’t beleive it. Thanks for 21 fantastic years see you soon wish wish!!! 🙁
Steve I wish You & Your Family the greatest , now maybe You Guys can take that long over due Vacation ! Steve keep Us posted about Your latest Projects lol !
21 really great years….you’ll be missed Steve Burton, hopefully the door will be left open for you to return.
I really hope they don’t do a recast….can’t imagine anyone else in the role.
Best of luck !!
Sucks!!!!! He will be missed!
SB/Jason .is awesome andit’s sad to see him leave GH..
I wish it were Sam that is gone, that character should now leave too ..
This is gonna be devastating for the fans – and for GH. So sad!
Well, we all knew this was coming. When you think about it, 21 years is a long, long time. And he is still a young man. I don’t think he will have to worry about the next thing in his life. I believe it will find him! The baby issue will be solved either with Heather or Todd or Johnny. They will all crash. Or maybe the baby issue will never be solved unless when the child gets older, he or she will go looking for his parents. What ever happens, I will miss Jason….Good luck..Steve…
I love the character of Jason and he is so much more than just a mob hitman and that is due to the writing and to Steve Burton. I will miss him… but wish him all good things… but please come back every now and then. He could be off trying to find Robin…
I agree with you Heidi. Jason & Sam belong together, hope they ride off into the sunset with their son and Sam can come back later after Jason has disappeared!
Thank god for that. Jason and Sonny have been a parasite on GH for years. One down, one to go.
Beacon, ur lites burned out, goodbye. Too bad you’re dim!
I’m rather new to GH (came over when OLTL was pulled), so my perspective may be a bit different that those who have history with the show. Someone said Steve didn’t show any emotions, that his expressions never change. I watched a few episodes off my DVR yesterday and couldn’t disagree more. He’s a fine actor IMHO. I think “Jason” plays a big part in the story and will be missed. I don’t see all the fuss about the mob storyline because it doesn’t seem to infuse the show as the dominant theme. Sure, there are alot more characters on GH who are tied to the mon than other soaps I’ve watched, but it isn’t like there are shootings or mob hits on every week like I heard it used to be. Mobsters are on but it’s no different than the multiple corporate take-overs on other shows. In all, I think GH is well written, produced and acted. Steve Burton and “Jason” will definitely leave a gap when he last airs. JMHO.
I agree!!
BRING BACK LUCY COE
BRING BACK SCOTT BALDWIN
GET RID OF SONNY
RECAST SERENA BALDWIN, KRISTINA CORINTHOS AND KEEP TRACY AND JOE TOGETHER!
there that would make my day !
I used to like sonny don’t know why they change him,if lily was alive I know he would not be like this sonny
I wish he would have posted who he did his last scene with. I hope it will be with Sam and his son. I think he will leave town to protect his son. I can’t imagine any other reason he would suddenly leave town upon finding out he has a kid.
I guess if we see him on the set in the black short sleeve shirt we will know it is his last day.
I think this show has enough sexy men to carry on without him but I still will miss him.
Steve wears a black shirt every day, hows that gonna help u.know its his last day? Lol
Over the years they saved a lot on wardrobe! Lol!
True that!
What a way for a guy to come to work, I know he loved it, not having to put on those stuffy suits ALL the time.
I had the pleasure of meeting Steve on the set of GH back in 2008. What a gentleman! I have to be honest, he was the main reason i cintinued watching GH. Now hearing that Nancy is leaving, theres not alot of reasons ill continue wattching. I cant Even I MAGINE Sam ending up with John. That will do it for me.
jason, a heartfelt thank you for bringing entertainment into my home. Youll be missed!
Where did u hear Nancy is leaving, nothing has been said about that?
for the younger fans i remember steve back in 1986 or 1987 he was on this show call out of this world ,boy he was so sexy , i love his long blond hair need to see it on youtube
please, Please, PLEASE…..dont bring back the old Jason back. Just wondering what will happen with Sam now??? To pair her up with someone else would be an upset. Like someone posted earlier, the ideal thing to do (and i think most fans would be happy)…..end it with sam and jason together With the baby…
So very sad that Steve..aka: Jason has “Left the building” 🙁
I hope they don’t kill him off!!! Please leave the door open, just in case!!!
Steve you are an awesome actor/person and I will miss you very much <3
Steve is thinking about his family ,I think he should go to CBS after they get rid of Victor
THE SHOW WILL NOT BE THE SAME AND IF THEY ARE CONSIDERING RECASTING THE PART THEY NEED TO THINK TWICE.NO ONE COULD PLAY JASON MORGAN BUT STEVE FANS WOULD NOT STAND FOR THAT STEVE HAS PLAYED JASON FOR 20 YRS OR LONGER I HAVE WATCHED THE SHOW SINCE FOR 20 PLUS YEARS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT GH IS HOW THEY ALWAYS KEEP THE SAME CAST FOR THE MOST PART.I HOPE HE LEAVES LOOKING FOR SAMES BABY OR JUST UP AND LEAVES ON HIS BIKE HURTING OVER HIS AND SAMS DIVORCE.AS FOR STEVE HE IS A GREAT GUY I WILL TRUELY MISS HIM,BUT I WISH HIM AD HIS FAMILY ALL THE BEST.MUCH LOVE TO YOU STEVE BURTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YOUR FAN MARYELAINE SHIPLEY
I am personally upset that Steve is leaving GH but know he is a fantastic actor whatever his endeavor(s) come , in the future, will be the great actor he is. Love you Steve and best of luck…………hugggggggggggs!
Goodbye.Don’t let the door hit ya ,where the good lord split ya.
I am so sick of the mob,I have shut the show off numerous times..I love my DVR,so I never have to watch the unholy three .FF city.
I will not miss him at all,I just wish he had taken the other two with him.
Wonder how long before he shows up on Y&R?
To be honest, if I was Steve Burton I would have left too. That being said, he has always been my favourite so it is the end of General Hospital, not only for me but I’m sure for others. I read the sneak previews each week but I have stopped watching GH because bringing all these people over from OLTL has totally ruined it for me. OLTL was cancelled, why bring actors over from a defunct show and try to make it theirs. Just doesn’t work for me.
If the actors from OLTL came over to GH, it is because ABC daytime made a huge mistake with the Revolution, we all know that. Forty three years and a show like that lasts less than six months. They deserve a chance to hone their
craft. Dont blame them for the mess ABC daytime made. Good luck, Steve.
Keep on rocking GH.
Don’t blame the actors from OLTL, they are just honing their craft because the ABC daytime people made a mistake after forty three years, they decided it was time for them to go and after less than six months, it was time for the Revolution to go too. So keep on rocking Steve, and good luck to to you and to GH.
I’ll miss him. He was a nice guy, great actor too. There are so many that have story lines that tie into Jason, I think I’d like them to recast the role, rather than have him killed off — especially if Robin is still alive. I can’t think the Jason would never find out his close friend is still alive and being held “captive”… glad they tied up the finding the baby was alive, but he still doesn’t know it’s his child.
GH Will Never Be The Same With Jason Morgan Gone! We Love You Steve. Best Wishes To You And Your Family
Love Jason, I cannot believe he will no longer be on the show. You have one lucky family! You will truly be missed.
He will most likely be shot. If not that then it will be left up in the air with no final outcome. We will just be guessing what happened to him for a long time to come.
You will be missed greatly. I have been watching this show since 1963. I have seen a lot of actors come and go…. Hopefully one day you will return…Good luck in Tennessee and may you find happiness in whatever you do.
i hope he is not dead at the docks and he ends up on sonnys island working at the casino missing his family but being safe
I can’t believe Jason is leaving! I’ve been watch GH for the last 16 years and I love Jason! Sam and Jason finally get back together and this baby is Jason’s will he ever no it before he leaves? GH won’t be the same without Jason, hopefully Sonny sticks around for a long time becuase if he leaves to, I think that will be the end of me watching General Hospital. Gonna miss Jason so much, good luck Steve!
wish u the best steve but we hope they recast a jason GH WILL NOT B THE SAME WE WILL MISS U MAYBE IF THEY RECAST JASON THE DOORS WILL B OPEN IF U DECIDE TO COME BACK
IM CRYIN I LOVE THIS SHOW ITS BAD ENOUGH THEY TOOK OUT OLTL BUT HAPPY JOHN AND STARR AND TODD R ON GH AND SOMETIME TEA LOVE THIS HOPE SOME OF OLTL ACTORS JOIN GH
GH NEEDS TO BRING IN A CHARACTER TO REPLACE STEVE THIS CANT STAY LIKE THIS SAM WAS SO HAPPY JASON NEEDS TO BE AROUND SO WHEN THE BABY GROWS HE IS THERE OR MAKE THE STORY THAT INVOLING JASON HELD AGAINST HIS WILL AFTER BEEN SHOT THAT LAVERY HAS JASON IN THE SAME PLACE THEY HAVE ROBIN AND THAT JASON SEES HER AND SAFES HER AND BRING HER BACK TO PATRICK AND EMMA AND ANNA FOUND OUT THAT DUKE HAS ROBIN AND HE ALSO HAS JASON……
The story line should stay open…I think they need to replace Steve Burton. Jason needs to find out about the baby being his and see Robin return. Lavery needs to go DOWN and Anna should take him to he!! and back for all that he’s done. @ Doris…..check with the networks…you’ve got a heck-of-a-concept going. I love it!!!!
JASON PLEASE come back!!!!!
