Jack Perry, Son of the Late ‘90210’s’ Luke Perry, Reveals Why He Turned Heel on AEW: Dynamite

By Michael Fairman

Following AEW Forbidden Door, fans of AEW and ‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry were ready to hear his explanation on why he turned on his tag-team partner Hook, after being defeated by Sanata for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

This would mark a turning point in the career of Perry, for during his entire run on AEW thus far, he has been a babyface. There had been backstage rumblings over the last month that plans were in place for his character to turn heel.  That moment finally happened this past Sunday, when he clotheslined ‘Hook’ and defamed his own entrance music that had become popular with the in-attendance crowds.

Jack is the son of beloved 90210 star, Luke Perry (Dylan).  The actor passed away in March of 2019, due to a stroke at only the age of 52-years-old.  Jack’s relationship with his late father was utilized in an AEW storyline a few month backs in his rivalry with then mentor, Christian Cage.

Jack told PEOPLE, he was OK to do it, because, “Luckily, it was long enough ago I feel like I kind of dealt with a lot of it and it wasn’t so fresh.”  When Perry defeated Cage in their final match back in March, Jack shared: “It just felt like a good ending to a chapter of my life, like it was the beginning of ‘act one’ for me. Just closing that chapter of my life and being able to move forward with my life and my work and see what’s next.”

Now at the end of June, and taking to the mic in the ring on Wednesday night’s AEW Dynamite, Perry called his former friend and tag partner ‘Hook’ an entitled fraud while also taking pot shots at ‘Hook’s’ father. AEW announcer and former wrestler, Taz.

Perry told the crowd in Canada to ‘shut up’ and then made it be known he was ‘banging the hottest b*tch in AEW”

.  The women he is referring to is wrestler, Anna Jay. The two went public with their relationship back in May.

Dismayed over losing two title matches in a row – the fatal four-way for the AEW World Heavyweight title, currently held by MJF, and then losing to Sanada last Sunday, irked Perry so much that he said he was planning to take the FTW Title from Hook.

When Hook came down the ramp ready for a fight, Perry hightailed out of the arena and into a waiting van and sped away, leaving Hook boiling over.

Now the question becomes, will Jack Perry join his old tag team partner Luchasaurus and his former mentor, Christian Cage and reform their alliance? Will he just be ‘Bad Boy’ or ‘Hollywood’ Perry instead of ‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry? Stay tuned.

Check out Jack Perry’s explanations for his actions against former friend and tag partner ‘Hook’ below.  Then let us know, are you looking forward to Perry being the heel instead of a babyface? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

In the meantime, not only is Chris appearing alongside Justin Hartley in a case of good vs evil on the March 22 episode entitled “Breakaway,” but he will also be seen in the new Apple TV+ series Margo Has Money Troubles which begins streaming on April 15.
