‘AEW Dynamite’: Five Takeaways from March 4 Episode
Last night’s March 4 episode of AEW Dynamite, felt much like a shortened AEW pay-per-view than a weekly program. It featured three world title matches, including one that wasn’t announced ahead of the show before it went live from El Paso, Texas.
The tension between MJF and ‘Hangman’ Adam Page ahead of their AEW World Championship match scheduled on March 15 at AEW Revolution was amped up even more, after Kevin Knight challenged MJF for the title, ultimately losing. Then, ‘Hangman’ quickly defeating Marty Snow by pinfall, which opened it to members of the Don Callis family attacking Page, as MJF watched in delight on the ring ramp.
This led to the main event of the night for the AEW Trios Championship where Jet Set Rodeo (‘Hangman’ Adam Page, Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight) defended their belts against The Don Callis family (Mark Davis, Kazuchika Okada and Kyle Fletcher). In addition, Thekla defended the AEW Women’s World Championship against Texas own’s Thunder Rosa.

After the dust settled, here were the five top takeaways from an intriguing AEW Dynamite below.
MJF costs ‘Hangman’ Adam Page’s Jet Set Rodeo, the AEW Trios Championship
At the end of the night, MJF comes out of nowhere at ringside and hits Hangman Adam Page with his Dynamite Diamond Ring, costing Jet Set Rodeo the trios championship. Mark Davis pins Kevin Knight, and the Don Callis family celebrates with another title. However, let’s look at why Page dropped the trios championship! It’s got to be because he needs to be the solo World Heavyweight Championship coming out of AEW Revolution in just a little over one week’s time. If he had been relegated to the Trios Championship, it might make his potential win as the kingpin of the Men’s division less important. However, never underestimate MJF, even though thus far, Page has outsmarted the current champ into a Texas Death match for the title.
David Finlay arrives
This was actually the biggest and best moment of the night! As had been rumored David Finlay (the son of former pro wrestler Fit Finlay) came out of nowhere and attacked Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin with a shillelag reuniting with New Japan co-horts Clark Connors and Gabe Kidd, assisting them in their post-match beat down of Allin and Cassidy. It’s a huge statement that Finlay chose AEW over WWE with his contract ending at New Japan. It will be probably a minute, before Connors, Kidd and Finlay become Trios champs, and Finlay ends up going for the Continental Championship or more.
Swerve Strickland in full heel-mode
My have the times changed! Swerve Strickland once the most popular star in AEW and its first Black champion has suddenly gone full heel once again, and nowhere was that more obvious and how he attacked Brody King, along with Prince Nana. Attacking King from behind with a steel chain he tried to choke Brody out using the ring ropes and the chain. Strickland says he’s all about action when it comes to being AEW’s most dangerous man. Suddenly, Bandido runs out to make the save for his tag partner. Meanwhile Swerve and is not heated rivalry with Kenny Omega is up next!
The IInspiration was far less than that.
This was far more less inspirational than inspirational, when Cassie Lee and Jessie McKay made their ‘Dynamite’ debut against the Brawling Birds (Jamie Hayter andAlex Windsor). Hayter got the pin quickly. Match was over and it’s hard to understand if AEW has any plans to up their game or just have them be also-rans in the AEW Women’s tag team division.

Thekla is the real deal
When we first saw Thekla, we thought she would remain this over the top spider woman. However, she has shown herself to be a fighting champion after taking the belt from Kris Statlander. She also has the the in-ring ability and persona to carry the belt as a heel for awhile, if AEW choose to go this way. Sadly, on this night, Thunder Rosa at home in Texas, and who has been recovering from injuries including her on-going back troubles did not have enough in the tank to defeat Thekla.
Now below, check out the the ending of the night where MJF takes ‘Hangman’ Page out of his Trios title match allowing the Don Callis family to secure the win below.
So, given what happened this week on ‘Dynamite,’ do you think ‘Hangman’ Adam Page will win the title back from MJF? What did you think of the arrival of David Finlay? Weigh-in via the comment section.
