This week on General Hospital, Sam and Jason are finally reunited with their son, Daniel!  After all the twists and turns, can JaSam finally find some happiness and be a family?  That is the question as we go through this pivotal week on compelling episodes of GH!

However as many know, the time is drawing near for us to say goodbye on-screen to the beloved Steve Burton whose final episode as Jason Morgan is said to be airing on Monday,  October 22nd.  How do you think it will end for Jason? For JaSam? How do you think head writer, Ron Carlivati and his team plan to handle Burton’s exit on screen?

For clues on Jason’s exit, or perhaps a red-herring, watch this week’s promo from ABC for General Hospital after the jump!  Then let us know your thoughts!

If they kill him- as much as I want to support soaps… I’m gone. I thought if they were smart he’d leave for a while to try to get out of the mob, and then he could come back with another face in time or whatever. Or maybe Steve would decide to make occasional appearances. If he’s dead or presumed dead, I don’t think I can watch anymore.

please dont let him die recast his role sam was so happy and he needs to raise the baby togethter after everything they have been though recast steve role gh wont be the same the rateing will go down bring back a jason role dont let sam go this way they looked so happy this would be a good rub in the face for elizbeth seeing sam and jason together with their baby and i know u could bring more story line involing the baby and sam and for john they need to bring natalie to port charles not him and sam please bring in a nother actor to replace steve if thats what it has to be but dont let jason die

I agree with you.

turns out you were wrong. the ratings kept climbing after steve burton’s exit. and they’re higher than they’ve been in years.

I love GH and will always watch it although Steve Burton’s character was the main reason I keep watching. I love the Sam/Jason story line. After seeing the movie Savages…….it’s clear to me that they should recast with actor Taylor Kitsch. He would make a great Jason.
It took time…………but the new Carly fits the role to a tee.

No pretty boys please………..need hardcore ………..tough and good looking man!

There are a million different ways to let this end.Whatever they decide to do there needs to be a recast. There’s lots of unemployed actors from the soaps no longer on air to pick from.Could give this character a whole new twist.

I agree with you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no way no one can replace steve burton, and i am sorry for all the soap actors
who have no jobs but so do the rest of the good ole usa

just cause they are soap stars it makes no difference

i support all soap that are still on air

but there is only one person for the role of jason morgan and that is steve burton
sorry only my opinion

I agree with u. No one can take his place. Have watched gh when it was black and white

I agree with you completely. I don’t think there is an actor out there that can fill his shoes….. Especially when it comes to his relationship with Sam. The love they share and the chemistry they have together on screen is irriplaceable . They just can’t kill him off. And as much as I no he has a family and life we need him on the show

Boo hoo and good riddance!

Enjoy semi retirement Steve.

What do you mean “GOOD RIDDANCE”?????????????????

That isn’t very nice if that is what you are trying to say………

The JASON character has eaten up more screentime than any single character on GH. Month after month, year after year, he has been the beloved pet of the show. Women worship him on the show while men cave to him. The favouritism TIIC have shown for this character has rotted most of the stories and I have been sick to death about it to the point where I shut it off completely a while ago and haven’t looked back! Ever the benevolent hero, never the violent, emotionless, criminal he really is, I am A DECADE past sick of the ass kissing and licking he’s received- to the detriment of other characters no less!- and am SO READY for a GH without the robot being the center of the universe in Port Charles. High time!

My comment wasn’t about Steve. It was about JASON. JASON sucks and needed to go years ago if for no other reason than to give the audience a bit of a reprieve. It just so happens that if one goes, the other goes too. If it had to happen, so be it. I’m happy for Steve that he was able to do it on his own terms and for a good reason, but I can’t help but feel giddy for me at the prospect of a Jason-less show for the first time in nearly 20 years.

I stand by it….GOOD RIDDANCE!!!!!!! Sayonara!

I am not looking forward to Jason/Steve’s departure, but I was hoping that they would have him involved in some mob thing, and to keep his son and Sam safe, he would leave the country, but if his last air date is October 22, 2012, I don’t think there is much time for that to play out. I honestly do not want to see him killed off, and while in my mind, there is no one who could play Jason as Steve Burton has so pefectly for the better part of the last 21 years, I would rather they recast than have him die, and I am thinking Sean Kanan is going to be the replacement. Out of all of my possibilities, the one thing I truly want for sure is that he and Sam find out that Jason is the baby’s dad before Steve leaves, but I am hopeful that will happen.

I don’t want him to be killed off either…….I would rather have a re-cast also…. Don’t
kill off this character completely…That woudn’t be right…..He better not be killed off
that’s the wrong way to go…Sam & Jason &son should ride out in the sunset together………………………………………….

i cant remember watching general hospital & not seeing steve burton on the screen. if the kill off jason i & my family will no longer watch it

Once again “the uploader has not made this content viewable in Canada”

Everybody knows the outcome of this come on nothing original he appears to die in gunfire. What other option you are not going to recast no one would want that and this leaves him with the option to come back if he wants. I saw today’s episode I must say a little disappointed but not surprised at the lack of compassion for Tea this was not her fault but then again I have never been a huge Sam and Jason fan I do feel they deserve each other two of the most selfish self-centered people on this soap.

How was there a lack of compassion? Sam actually said she feels bad for Tea. She even let Tea say goodbye and told her thank you for being a wonderful mom to my son. Why else do you expect?

That maybe i might get lucky and they write off Sam!

REALLY ??????????? This is soap opera land, No one dies in soaps 🙂 Hey look, Duke is back !!! Really hope they don’t kill him off thou !!

I don’t think they’ll kill him off………..I think he’s going into the witness protection with John McBain’s help. Then he’ll be able to return if he so chooses down the road. Will he be missed? Absolutely !! The show will go on………but he leaves a huge hole. GH is very good right now……..the new writers have done their homework…..kudos!

Duke could also keep him hostage the way he has robin that way when Steve burton is good and ready he can return as Steve burton because I don’t think anybody could fill Jason shoes after 21 years he isn’t just a character in the show he is Jason Morgan the one and only

K why can this not be available to us die hard fans in CANADA!!!!

Yeah I feel the same way…..
Fellow Canuck !!

All the promos are not visible to Canadian audiences and they should be since it is a large audience>

I’m trying to remember what Gh was like without SBU (jason)? I’ve watched since the 80’s and watched him be created! This feels like losing something big not as bad as OLTL but kinda as we are counting the days down like we did OLTL! I know I will not be able to watch GH if they put Sam with John just a bitter fan on that one pairing, as a Jolie and a Jasam fan…..They brought John over and inserted him right in the middle of Jasam’s long awaited story and totaly trashed Jolie in the most horrible way possible and with Sam….I want to support the soap but that Pairing was so unwatchable for me and I hate to admit it but just down right painful.

I am going to miss the character of Jason very much, but I am also going to miss Steve Burton. He is Jason and so much more and while I do not want him to die… I don’t want a recast. Let him come back again like Tony Geary does… please!

After watching today’s episode, and the dastardly Duke telling Joe Jr. after his botched attempt at killing Kristina – some one else must die…..
I’m hoping that’s NOT how they’re going to exit Jason….. 🙁

On another note I hope they resurrect Sean Kanan as AJ Quartermaine,
since he is returning to the show.

Gh will go on when Burton leaves..The saying goes: The show will go on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like him but he decided to exit……………..That baby is sooooooooo cute!!!!!!!!

Please don’t leave the show.First Robin now jason. They both have to be there for the 50 years episodes .

I’m gonna miss that big hunk of sexy hitman:(

brenda right on sister friend what a hunk, sexy blue eyed 100% man

women only dream of and see on soaps

maurice (sonny and those dimples) rocks my world and I am 52 girl!!

and some one calling him a robot, (jason) and glad he is leaving gh

they must need glasses to see, hey my opinion but you cannot
get any better than jason or sonny

i wonder if the robot comment ever saw jasons 6 pack abs!!
what do you think? love them too with those blue eyes

girlfriend brenda rock on!!

He dies n a explosion I bet it coming

That s how it’s gona happen an explosion that’s how Jason dies then they’ll bring all these washed up actors back lol that a why YnR beast them every year lol

Jason, Sam and the baby have their moment as they agree to salvage their marriage. The two adults recommit themselves to having a honesty and loving marriage. The phone rings interrupting their union. Its Carly who says she needs him now (she found out about Johnny attempt on Sonny’s life and Todd’s role in baby Daniel’s kidnapping). As Jason hangs up the phone, he looks at Sam and he fills her in on the conversation (Carly’s hysterical). Jason says that he’s not going, but he was staying put with his family. Sam sees that Jason is serious, but in her new attitude, she encourages him to go check on his friend and that she will have surprise when he returns.

Flash forward to Jason walking towards his car and as he puts his key in the door, he is struck from behind and assaulted by three men. They put a dark bag over his head and forces Jason into the back of a van which just sped up and stopped before the group.

Inside the van, Jason hands are tied behind his back and the mask remains. Jason inquires about who they are… one of the abductors speaks. “Mr. Morgan, I hope you enjoyed your goodbye because you were a power chess piece that has been removed from the board. Checkmate, Mr. Morgan. Checkmate.

TThere’s an outside shot of the van driving off and the scene fades to black.

…and it’s a Scottish voice saying that. Very cool…. Would not be surprised to see Kanan playing Jason tho’. They do freakily look like brothers, although he’d have to dial down the temper his characters have always had.

What upsets me , is this Steve’s desires or GH. If its GH., I’m pissed. I love Jason. I’ve been watching this
Show since Jesse and Steve in the 1960’s. Please consider the fans more than money.

Steve and Jason had a good long run. Good for him to want to get his kids to a nicer place to live. Good luck, Mr. Burton. I wear black t-shirts in your honor, lol. Even though I’m better looking.

My guess is Sam gives the baby up for adoption to Tea. Can’t weigh down and action character like that. As for Jason. We’ll see what happens.

I also am feeling a Trevor St John vibe….all the use of the name Victor…..something’s bubbling.

I don’t think Sam will give her baby to Tea for adoption…I think she will keep the baby…………………Sam will her keep her child as close as possible to her..She won’t let that baby get out of her sight ever again…………….They will be attached at the hip……………………………………………………Again Sam will keep her child as close as possible…………………………………..The baby belongs with his real mother……That’s what I think on this subject….

I could accept a Sean Kanan recast but it will take time, but it would allow for the Quartermaine thread to continue. I am guessing GH employs the chestnut Jason turns up missing to save his wife’s and child’s lives. Or he has to go undercover a la witness protection to escape death. The possibility for return — other than resurrection — is necessary with this legacy character. We already have one aked death — Robin — on the canvas.

I’m hating to see Steve go, but I don’t hthink he’s going to be killed off the show; perhaps he will be assumed dead so that he can return someday. Probably will be some storyline about him leaving in order to protect Sam and baby Daniel. Just hope he gets to know that the baby is really his instead of his brother, Franko.

he will proably die in a explosion just like robin maybe duke is in control of jason now to him and robin will be togethe r i will miss my enforcer

I think it sucks. Everyone should wish him the best. As long as gh doesn’t replace him. You can’t replace that man! Don’t kill him off either. That would really blow

I will definitely miss Jason (Steve). I was hoping that this was just stunt for more publicity, but, I too will not be watching the show. I am a JaSam fan til the end. This is what make fans want to leave daytime and thsi is why GH is going down because he is a big part of the show and I believe they will see it soon….first Robin and now Jason. I believe they will haul him off to,prison for pushing Heather off the roof….time will tell….Fay

So, what show were you watching? Jason didn’t push Heather off the roof on the show I was watching…

Sam, Jason and baby Daniel are all leaving the show together to protect the baby from a violent life. Sam will return later with her son deciding that they couldn’t make things work. This gives Kelly a break from the show…hmmmmm.

I will be so upset if they kill off Jason’s character. I would rather see them recast for the part. General Hospital will not be the same without Jason!!!

i don’t think a recast would ever work. Steve is Jason and a recast would be a mistake, but they could have him fall into the water. That way if Steve decides to return he can. That way we know he is alive and well somewhere ! If they kill him i will not watch again.

thirty years watching. Myself and a lot of friends and a lot of there friends, we were looking for a reason not to watch GH anymore. You just gave a lot of us a good reason. Good by GH, it was a nice 30 years.

Leave it as to where jason can come back and be reunited with sam and daniel I love jasam and baby daniel

Steve Burton will be missed. Good luck in tenessee.

Are they killing Jason Morgan that would be the dumbs
Thing ever to do.He should stayed with his family
Instead of going out to see what was going on.This
Stupid idea to do that what if someday Elbe wants to
Come back to General Hospital.

I gradually stopped caring for the Jason character after sending Brenda out of his apartment and it was like he abandoned her after that Brenda’s character seemed to get attacked and destroyed. I hate the Sam character that is so evil, self centered, and intellectually stunted with her puffy baggy face trying to take Brenda’s place all the time. Sam’s supporters are so rude and violently predisposed that they are hard to stomach, living in their own world by re inventing the story lines that did not even happen. They skip scenes because they only like the violent parts and moon over puffy faced Sam, their hero, who is so illiterately speech impaired it makes me ill. Replace Jason with Sean and put him with Liz, she is more mature, intelligent and moralistic advantageous.

I am so disappointed in the writers of General Hospital. I can’t believe they killed Jason off the show without him finding out that Daniel is his son. I am a big fan of General Hospital but I’m not sure if I will continue to watch it after Steve Burtons exit.

I WILL MISS MY DOSE, OF JASON. ON THE SHOW. But I do give Steve Burton, gratitude of putting up with. The fans of the show. And I feel he wants to, accomplish the other things that he has started with music, the diets plan, and making those detailed t shirts. And of coarse of being the, number 1 daddy. To his Girls. That’s all he thinks about now. Are his daddy’s woman , in his life. And his wife. On his return to GH: I feel the way that he will , be going off is the way that Robin left. Of being presumed dead. And now one will know that he’s alive. Just like Robin. And let’s not forget, that offscreen is where the most action. And emotion is. So maybe Duke or Monica, will find him to take him to recover. Where Duke has Robin, and Alan, and Emily are and Duke is treating them. To recover to get back to, their families and friends. When the 50th show, comes around next year. And Monica will have her, family back. Of the Quatermaine family can be, rebuilt. Again. And robin can go back to, her daughter Emma and Patrick. And her mom Anna. Like they OFFSCREEN IS WHERE THE MOST ACTION IS.

You will certainly be missed, really won’t be the same without you but you have quite beautiful experiences ahead of you and I wish you well.

I think Ryan formerly of AMC would be good

Well, I cant say that I will still continue to watch GH. I DO NOT think he can be re-cast because no one will ever be as good or be able to replace Steve, it will not fly with the audience. This storyline with Jason and Sam is one of the MAIN reasons I have watched GH aside from Sonny and it was one of the BEST, it was GH. Bringing back old faces are a plus…but not the same and will never be as good as they once were,,,example Duke. His acting is horrible and he is not the Duke we knew and loved @ one time, same for Robert. The storyline has been dead for so long, its just not important or good any longer. GIG mistake letting Jason go. Offer him the moon what ever it takes try harder to get him to continue even if it is only part time…he shouldnt leave.

This is crazy and has to be because of a contract break down. That is to bad because Jason and Sonny have been what has had me a man watching a daily soap opera and now your going to let him go…Are you crazy or what?? Let him come back on the shore or something in critical condition and let him live and continue to do a role he has masterfully done. He was there I believe when I started watching @ 10 or more years ago. I really hope you bring him back. I think loosing Bernie, and Jason was a big mistake for General Hospital to have made. If you are trying to create yesteryear, no body knows who Duke L is and frankly the less I see of him the actor the better. I he is to come in and take over a command lead in General Hospital I believe it will desperately hurt the show and I would hate more than you could think to see General Hospital enter into the world of ending the show because of a lack of audience. What you have had is a true bread and butter situation with GH that has made it get to # 1 in daytime soap and your going to blow it, I don’t understand. If this is the actors choice to leave, I would like to wish him luck and for sure stay on the screens…Your a natural !!!

Well – when will we know if Jason is returning. Hopefully they will finally continue with some FAMILY values

i reaaly missses seeing the actor steve playing as Jason.I think that he really played his part.I relly hate that he have lefted & hoping that he will return one day

I misses seeing the actor that had played Jason

‘General Hospital’s’ Dominic Zamprogna Shares He Was ‘Happy to Hear’ of The Triangle Storyline Developing Between Dante/Elizabeth/Ric

Published

on

By

Dominic Zamprogna

General Hospital’s Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri) opened up about the burgeoning love triangle forming between his Port Charles alter-go, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) after recently aired scenes, plus his hopes for the future of a Dante and Liz pairing, during his appearance on the Sunday, April 23 edition of the That’s Awesome podcast with Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli).

On last week’s episodes of GH, Ric has made the decision that he wanted to propose to his ex-wife, only when he showed up at Elizabeth’s front door, he misread the scenario he walked in with Liz tending to Dante’s injured leg from the softball game. From there, the legal eagle’s jealous streak is reemerging which may cause him to act out and do something unforgivable, or will he take the high road? Stay tuned.

Speaking with Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson about where Elizabeth stands in the annals of the long-running soap, Zamprogna said, “She’s up there with Steve and Maurice (Maurice Benard) as one of the most legacy-filled people on the show.”

Courtesy/ABC

HOW DANTE AND ELIZABETH CAME ABOUT

Dominic jokes it’s a far cry for where Dante and Elizabeth previously, recalling, “We had some scenes together years ago and we were both laughing. Becky’s like, ‘Well, I guess we’re not going be paired up anytime soon.’ I remember we laughed immediately after they yelled ‘cut,”‘and said to each other, ‘Well, so much for that!'”

Fast-forward to early 2025 and as Zamprogna remembered it, “Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) came up to me at the General Hospital Christmas party, and I think it was a year and a half ago and she said, ‘We’re going to have you in scenes with Elizabeth,’ My internal monologue is going, ‘I’m not with Lulu (Alexa Havins) anymore and Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) gone, so maybe they want to see if this works.’ I didn’t want to get scenes with Becky and try to find the chemistry. I just wanted to play whatever honestly was written and came across for both of us and hope it was what people liked, and I don’t know if it is … or not.”

Knowing how beloved Elizabeth is to the GH faithfuls, Zamprogna added, “She got a big fan base with Ric … and a big fan base with with Jason … and you know, you’re going to piss somebody off. But, didn’t Ric drug Elizabeth and put Carly in a panic room?”

DANTE AND ELIZABETH PAIRING COULD STIR UP STORY FOR OTHERS IN PORT CHARLES

In closing, Dominic felt that the wide-reaching tentacles of a Dante and Elizabeth relationship is something he is 100% down for. “The triangle thing; I was happy to hear it was with Ric and her, because I felt it’s important to have her the top of it as opposed to Dante, Lulu and Elizabeth.”

Zamprogna added, “When you get into relationships on a soap, things seem to fizzle out a little bit, The buildup is what’s the fun part, and the getting to know each other, and the people who are affected by this coming together. When with this case it’s going to affect: Ric, Sonny, Lulu. There’s so much more story here. To me, it’s going to be a fun story to play.”

You can check out Dominic’s visit to That’s Awesome with Steve and Bradford below.

Now weigh-in: Are you rooting for Dante and Liz, or Dante and Ric at this juncture of the story, or neither guy  for Elizabeth? Let us know your thoughts and picks via the comment section.

GH and OLTL Alum Patrick J. Gibbons Reveals the Story Behind Writing Trina’s Song on ‘General Hospital’ (Exclusive)

Published

on

By

Patrick J. Gibbons

At the conclusion of today’s August 21 episode of General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) sings a lullaby to baby Dez, that went into a montage to close out the episode as her father Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) reports to Pentonville and winds up in his jail cell.

However, in a fun fact, the song entitled, “A Lonely Heart To Give” was actually written by none other than former One Life to Live and General Hospital actor, Patrick J. Gibbons.

Daytime fans first met Gibbons as Sam Manning on One Life to Live. At the time, when he started on the soap, he was just 5-years-old. Gibbons played the part from 2010-2013 on ABC and Prospect Park’s editions of the show. Fast-forward to 2018, Gibbons shows up on General Hospital as Wyatt Hoover, the scout who seemed always be injured, but in the thick of the drama. Patrick had appeared on GH multiple times as Wyatt including: 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER’S DEATH CAME THE INSPIRATION FOR HIS SONG

Now in 2026, General Hospital fans are getting to learn about another side of Gibbons’ talent as a songwriter and guitar player after “A Lonely Heart to Give” debuted today! Michael Fairman TV caught up with Patrick, who is now a senior at Penn State entering his final year as a finance major, to get the back-story of how his song wound up on GH!

Gibbons explained he wrote the song in honor of his grandmother who passed away a few years ago with whom he was, very, very close with. “Randomly, my grandmother had a downfall and passed away during the second semester of my sophomore year. I was in my dorm a lot and I was just playing with my guitar. And at the time, I was really into finger-style playing. I wrote the lyric and music to it (with a little help from my guitar teacher Lou), and my mom showed the rough demo to Frank Valentini (EP, General Hospital). He’s like an uncle to me. Frank loved it so much he said, “Finish that up. I want to hear the whole thing, and I want it on the show.”

MAKING MUSIC FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL

Gibbons and his parents took the next steps! “So now, all we needed was a female voice, because I thought that would fit the song well,” Patrick shared. “At the golf club we go to my parents were at a dinner. They liked the singer that was performing and spoke to her about the song, and she says she would like to bring it to her ‘boss’ who ended up being Eric Bazilian of the Hooters fame!” (Bazilian also wrote the smash hit song “One of Us” for Joan Osborne).

Next, “We went in the studio and recorded it and the song came together and it was beautiful. We loved it. They loved it at General Hospital and now they’re putting it the show and they are coming in with a piano, instead of a guitar. Paul Glass, the GH musical director, has been keeping us updated over the last six months of how it was coming along, and when it would air, and how GH put their own arrangement to it. I can’t wait to see and hear what they did with it.”

PATRICK’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE FAMILY

Everyone knows that the One Life to Live extended family share a very tight bond, and Patrick said he does stay in touch with a few of his former One Life to Live co-stars, especially those from the Manning family! “I stayed in touch with Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair) and sent her little videos here and there. She was like my second mom for five years. We keep in contact with Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr) over X the most, and she can’t believe how big I’ve gotten. Like, none of them can! (laughs). I also loved working with Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) and Trevor St. John (ex-Todd and Victor Jr.), and to me since I was so young, they were just my friends, ‘Roger and Trevor,’ not Todd Manning or Victor Jr.”

It was a trip to California and a visit to Port Charles that ultimately led to Gibbons second soap role of Wyatt Hoover. Patrick explains, “In 2016, Frank Valentini invited us out to Los Angeles to visit the set of General Hospital. I think he heard me say, ‘This is so much fun. I miss being on the set.’ He goes, ‘You should come out. I’ll bring you on the show. We can make you a character.'”

A few years later, Patrick’s dream became a reality! “Then, by the summer of 2018, I was playing Wyatt, the scout, and shared scenes with Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and the best was when I shared a scene with Roger Howarth and Michael Easton (ex-John, OLTL and ex-Silas, Finn et al, GH), it was like chemistry from the old days.”

Photo: PGibbons

IT’S ALL IN THE NUMBERS

As to his future aspirations, it’s a career in the finance game that has piqued Gibbons’ real-life interest. But never say never to a return to acting. Patrick explained, “I’ve always enjoyed numbers. And on top of that, one of the biggest parts of finance is being personable and outgoing.”

He continued, “That’s one of the greatest skills I developed growing up. I really love the markets. I’m super interested. I’m never going to close the door to acting. I’m always open to that because I just love it so much. It’s such a great art.”

Take note! If there are any investment bankers or private equity folks among the GH faithful looking for a young analyst next year, Patrick’s DMs are open. You can find him on X at @PatrickJGibbons.

So, what did you think of the song sung by Trina on today’s GH that was written by Patrick J. Gibbons? Did you enjoy Patrick’s performances as One Life’s Sam and GH’s Wyatt? Would you like to see him back on GH at some point? Let us know via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Admits That He Didn’t Expect the Role of Michael Corinthos to be Recast, and Would Consider Working on Another Soap (Exclusive)

Published

on

By

Chad Duell, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor, who stepped away from the pivotal role of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, opened up about: his previous decision to leave the series after nearly 15 years, where’s he’s at now after time away from the demands of a daytime soap opera, and took a stroll down memory lane with some of Michael’s most-acclaimed storyline during his run, during a livestream chat on August 19 on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.

Viewers last saw Duell on-screen as Michael in January of 2025, and with his successor in the role, Rory Gibson making his debut at the GH Nurses’ Ball in episodes that aired later in May. It was clear that during the conversation, Chad was a bit surprised that the GH brass decided to recast him when he thought he was just taking some much needed time off.

Burn-out of the daily grind of being on a soap was definitely a part of Chad’s decision to take a break. Duell explained “People know when you’re doing something for so long or your character is kind of in the same place for so long or doing the same stuff over and over again, you do get a a little burnt out, you get a little stiff, stale, a little stiff at times. I didn’t want that to be any sort of lasting impression. I have 15 years of a body of work of I’ve done on that show, which is fantastic.”

Chad Duell

WHILE CHAD WAS AWAY GH RECAST MICHAEL CORINTHOS WITH RORY GIBSON

Chad shared, his mindset when leaving GH was, “I’m taking some time away, we’ll see what happens.” Then he added, “Obviously, they decided to go in a different direction with Michael when I was gone. I didn’t think they were going to bring somebody back in my place. But you know, it’s the business. You never know what can happen.”

Duell also shared he has not watched a single episode of General Hospital since he left the series, but now feels he reenergized following the loss of his father and stepping away from the GH, “I’m in a place now mentally, where I’m ready to sink my teeth into it again.”

Courtesy/ABC

Even though he is no longer Michael on GH, Chad was very happy with his final storyline where Michael was set on fire when a bomb exploded at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse. “It was fun to put him in a dangerous situation, because I was wanting Michael to be in something scary instead of trying to be a hero character or just things happening around him, but to be the center point of tragedy happening to him. (I always saw) Michael as the heart of the (Corinthos) family.”

When Michael was badly burned the show chose not burn his face, which normally a soap does when they are recasting role and switching actors. Chad weighed-in, “They didn’t burn my face because I told Frank Valentini (EP, GH) I’m willing to come back. It was just a little bit of a break. So, I assumed that if they would have burned my face, they could have brought somebody back looking different than me… if that’s what their plan was.”

MEMORABLE MICHAEL STORYLINES

One of Chad’s most memorable performances was the in the storyline of Michael’s rape while he was sentenced to prison in 2010 and the confession of it in 2011. “It was so well-written and I was very nervous,” recalled Chad. “When I get really nervous about something, it ends up being really good when I do it, because it just means I care a lot about it”

“I have to put a lot of effort and work into it, and I really want it to be good.  I was working with Dominic  Zamprogna (Dante) and Steve Burton (Jason) a lot during those scenes, and Laura Wright (Carly). It was great working with Steve and Dominic, especially, during that storyline.

A NEW SOAP ROLE FOR CHAD?

As to a future soap opera role, Chad is open to the idea and would love to jump back in to a juicy role, “I know people over at The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. They know that if they’re interested, I would love to come in for a screen test or something, and they can see what I’m doing.”

Meanwhile, Chad has been busy putting out new music under the moniker Duelly and during the interview he explains how he creates his EDM tracks and much more. You can stream his latest single, Static in the Quiet Room on Spotify, Apple Music and You Tube Music.
