Look who’s back to keep Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) company at Pentonville? Daytime Emmy-winner, Jeff Kober is reprising his role of Cyrus Renault.  For just how long, we will have to watch all-new episodes of General Hospital to know.

On Thursday’s episode of GH, Laura (Genie Francis) and Martin’s (Michael E. Knight) criminal-ridden sibling was sitting in his cell, when he found out a new prisoner was joining him. Cyrus shared, “I know him, his name is Drew Cain … he’s a friend.”

When Kober last appeared on GH, the convict claimed he found religion. In addition, he was keeping tabs on Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) from afar.

How will Cyrus use Drew’s stay in the slammer to his advantage? Will he help Drew out … or blackmail him? Stay tuned.

So, glad to see Cyrus back on the Port Charles canvas? Do you hope to see more scenes between Jeff Kober and Genie Francis in the future? Comment below.

It’ll be good to have him back on the scene. Jeff/Cyrus always gives such a nuanced performance.
Welcome back!

It strikes me as funny that Cyrus’ incarceration has lasted longer than most who’ve gone to prison on GH (or any other soap, for that matter). Heather has been in and out so often that it’s difficult o count her as a long-term stay. Dr.Steven Lars went off to prison a long time ago and I haven’t heard of him getting out. The same goes for that other doctor, Patrick Drake’s brother ~ was it Matt? And those two were mostly good guys. If you’re even close to a main character, your sentence is usually commuted after a scant two months. I look for Drew to be out for Thanksgiving. LOL!

In the meantime, there should be some interesting scenes with hm and Cyrus in Pentonville.

He’s certainly a sight for sore eyes. Just when I thought I would take a long break from GH, they bring this guy back. He is a brilliant actor, able to convey a complexity of emotions to this part. Sadness, vulnerability, humor and abject sinisterness all commingle; rising and interchanging to the surface. He also looks great! I only wish Genie Frances weren’t on her summer break because I love me some Cyrus and Laura scenes. However, I’d happily settle for Cyrus-Kevin scenes. Two incredibly gifted actors exchanging barbs would be a lot of fun!

You said it, Harry. When Cyrus appeared the other day, I literally began grinning from ear to ear. He almost makes me want to visit Pentonville! He was great with Spencer.. maybe he can enliven the human driftwood Drew.

Kevin is barely on Harry. Laura might as well be single. As for in-story, Kevin is going with Laura so there won’t be any Cyrus-Kevin scenes either. I’m hoping for Martin-Cyrus, Sonny-Cyrus, Spencer-Cyrus, scenes. Plenty of people he pissed off that he can play with, but unless he gets Drew to bust him out, lol, they’ll have to visit dear Cy in the slammer.

I’m so glad to see Jeff Kober back. He’s so talented and brings alot to the scenes. Maybe he has changed?! That remains to be seen.

Thought it was really bizzare how they stuck a random scene of Cyrus doing his religious act in the middle of the “couples making out to bad music” montage yesterday.

But it’s good to see the Virus back, regardless.

Bizarre yes, but I loved it! It was the best part of the scenes of “couples making out to bad music”!

Nothing against Kober, he is a great actor, but I’m not a fan of this character.

Me neither. Course I hate man buns and men with ponytails, soooooooo….

I’m with you ……. Not a fan either

Me either. That and the man earring — so passe.

Yay. Love Jeff Kober

Always good to have Kober back on the screen.

Can anything be done to make Drew seem interesting or even relevant? The pairing with Carly is snoozeville. What kind of father willingly abandons his young daughter after being held from seeing her for 3 years?

How is the biological son of Alan Quartermaine & Susan Moore such a dullard? Both were vibrant characters.

Are the viewers supposed to forget that Drew still has Jason’s memories in his brain? It would be an interesting therapy session if Kevin helped Drew find out his attraction to Carly was related to those memories.

Tracy got it right when she mentioned Alan turning over in his grave. That actually would’ve happened as soon as Drew started pursuing Carly – the downfall of all 3 of Alan’s sons.

I actually liked the character of Drew as written for and performed by Billy Miller. I recognize little of that nowadays.

Excellent points Steve! Cameron’s Drew has none of the charm and personality that Billy Miller brought to the role, and I don’t believe this relationship with Carly for a second!

Omg!!!! I have beem thinking the same thing
….this Drew is duller than dirty dish water and has never fit in. The actor’s voice is irritating as well!

Thank you for that, OG Steve—I really needed to hear how I feel about this Drew from someone else. Even his voice gives me acido.

I never liked this actor when he replaced Mark on Home and Family. I couldn’t hear him his voice is so faint. Hallmark changed the whole show and it went downhill from there and got cancelled. It had very high ratings when Mark and Christina were hosts. When I heard he was going to play Drew I said no way that will work. Yes it seems that they have forgotten he still has Jason’s memories.

Celia,
You say acido, but I remember the shelf at my Nona’s house with the big blue bottle. When I asked her about it she’d pat her stomach and say it was for her Agida.

Agree! Drew seems too weak for Carly. But the whole show now is so boring! I know the writers are on strike but nothing ever really happens now! Just more of the same drawn out storylines!

Drew ( new recast) is as boring as drying paint and i agree his voice is very irritating

While Cameron Matheson seems to be a pleasant and genial person, he’s best suited to be a game show host. Every character he “plays” is one he plays the exact same way. No ability to bring individuality, nuance to different characters. In the case of GH and Drew, it’s too stark a difference from the essence of the character to watch. While it’s clear the network loves the actor and believes he’s a draw, they’ve erred in believing he’s a positive to GH. He’s turning off too many. Give him a game show if you want to give him employment.

OG Steve,
I also thought it crazy but typical that Drew was willing to sell his business to give Carly the money she needs. Up till now I haven’t cared a bit whether Jason ever came back, but I really think we could use him now, but know realistically that Carly would be monopolizing his time and speaking of money, has Diane ever mentioned a Will or is it there isn’t one because of the lack of a body? I don’t remember any of this stuff coming up, about Jason.

The last time Jason “died”, Danny was a newborn and Jake was assumed to be dead, too. It’s too difficult keeping up with who has ELQ shares. BTW, who’s running the company with Ned out of his mind and Valentin on a mission with Laura & Kevin?

They probably just dusted off Jason’s plaque from the Q crypt from the last time he was dead.

The interesting story would be for Cyrus to use Drew’s portion of Jason’s memories to bring down Sonny. But no, we’re destined for something more boring.

It would be insane for Jason to leave money to Carly if that’s what you were wondering; it should all have gone to his kids. The most he should have left Carly is a “count to ten” recording. lol As for Drew, the “real” Drew would never have left his daughter to spare Carly. It’s not just how Cameron plays the part; the character has been completely rewritten to be lapdog 2.0. The best bet would be for them to write a story arc where they discover he still has residual memories from Jason which has led him down this crazy “love” obsession for Carly.

Love Mr. Kober’s portrayal of Cyrus! The villain you love to hate.

So glad you are back on GH!

Welcome back! Cyrus brings a lot of intrigue & excitement back to the GH storyline. You either love him or hate him. True soap opera storyline!!

I’m really glad your back.

I like Cyrus even though he is a bad guy. He really just a big ole mamas boy. I look forward to seeing him play his part.

We love Jeff’s acting on GH and when he was on SONS of ANARCHY. Great Actor.

Good to see him back

Jeff Kober is a great actor, always glad when he’s back on the show. I wish Cyrus would go back to his evil ways. He was a lot of fun as a villain. They need a good villain on the show again, since they’ve gotten rid of Victor and Ryan this year, and all the other all-time greats like Helena and Faison are long gone.

Yeshyyyyyy!!so happy to see Jeff (Cyrus) again—His compelling presence always devours any scene. I don’t know—-he just has a way about him—-love him.

I fell in love with Jeff Kober and his acting skills when he was on China Beach not so long ago. So glad to see him pop up on General Hospital again.

Hi, Diane—I felt the same way when I first saw him as he guest-starred on Law and Order-SVU—I was still in College ( early 2000’s), but I remember how impressed I was, by his performance, albeit he was a real baddie.

Hope you didn’t miss him in his season 2 episodes of Big Sky! Still on Hulu, I believe!

I’m going to join the hallelujah chorus and say amen to all the positive comments! I was thrilled to see Jeff at the end of Friday’s episode and look forward to seeing him again!

Would be great to see him.

Jeff plays his part so well! He makes it a pleasure to hate Cyrus !!

Love the actor, the character not so much and do not for a minute believe “he’s found God” I love the way Laura tames him down though now that she’s gone for the summer, he’ll be able to do a lot of damage. Hope Drew will be able to stand up to him. At least he’s got Sonny’s men watching after him.

So very happy to see Jeff Kober as Cyrus back on GH He’s a real good actor! please keep his character on going! He makes GH more interesting it’s been quite a bore lately! I think villains make the soaps worthwhile! and I am so happy that he received a daytime Emmy for supporting actor he deserves that award!

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

on

By

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
